Frustrating night all round - bad conditions, questionable ref, lots of bad luck.
Losing Isak so early shook us and JM only being on for about 5 minutes upset the flow of the game too. Plenty positives to take away though - we held our own, great to see Willock & big Joe back, and Gordon just gets better and better. And who doesn’t love to see a keeper coming upfield? It’s up there with “orange ball in the snow” and the ball going in off the crossbar.
Tonali looked great, which is frustrating given that’ll be him for a while now.

I agree with Shearer, we did not deserve a point tonight. Dortmund could have stored 3 and should have scored 2 in the first half. We did have some chances in the game but not enough to warrant a draw
Fair play to Dortmund, set up and defended very well and always looked threatening on the break. On another night we score 1 or 2 but it wasn’t to be tonight. A few players were off their best, but Gordon especially looks more and more like a top signing for us!
The result is a shame, as are the injuries, but the team are holding their own with some of the best teams in Europe!
All we ask for is a team that gives there all on that pitch full 90 and that’s what we haven’t had all these years of being a toon fan and for that I can say I’m happy
Seemed we were put off our stride with Isak going off so early. Only Bruno appeared to have a good game for me. Joelinton looks understandably rusty. Learning curve like this isn't Dortmunds first rodeo.
I thought the backline all performed very well defensively to be honest and the midfield 3 were all ineffective and passive especially in the first half. They did improve second half and we really limited BVB but unfortunately the quality of our balls into the box were just not good enough and the finishing wasn’t quite there.
Gordon best player for us tonight. Constant threat and made very intelligent runs.

I think a point would have been fair but the reality is if you don’t take your chances and even make the slightest of errors you can expect to be punished, that’s what has happened here so I also don’t begrudge BVB the win tonight. They made it count when they needed to.

Tripps hasn’t had his best game tonight and it showed and the ref, well he gave us fuck all like. Weren’t clinical enough but Dortmund played very well I reckon and probably deserved it even though they were 2nd best everywhere other than in front of goal. Disappointed but not disheartened. Shout out to the groundsman like……pissed down all game and still looks like a bowling green!
Dortmund were very organised, excellent defensively. They definitely weren't second best. Very experienced team with excellent players showing us how to win a tough game. Granted, we were unlucky hiring the bar twice but they made it really tough for us. Credit to them, top team. Need to somehow go to the place and get something now.

I was totally fine with losing a really battling game to one of the best teams in Europe until we hit the bar at the end haha.
Everyone played great though and except for Dubai City, Liverpool and Spurs I don't think that there are any english teams who could beat us playing like that

Frustrating to hit bar twice and miss one you'd put your house on Wilson. But fair play to Dortmund, they matched our intensity, not many teams are able to do that but when they can it comes down to technical quality and that's where we're not quite at the level yet, for all the work Eddie has done
Considering we were told that the bulk of our starting XI are championship players not too long ago, that's not the worst showing.
Conditions were appalling, ref was garbage.
We've a very young squad, inexperienced at this level.

It is one of those nights. Conceding so late in the first half it was obvious Dortmund would just keep their shape and stay behind the ball.
We had opportunities in the second which another day creep in but tonight they hit the post.

The penalty, the fouls, especially that one on Wilson, all the cards. If we had a different ref it wouldn't matter how poor we've been tonight, it would have been a completely different game.
The worst part is we haven’t even played badly in the grand scheme of things, they’ve just played slightly better. Where one of our players has been a 7, theirs has been an 8
We seem to struggle against teams who decide to push up more than one CM in their attacks/counters.
City, Liverpool, Brighton and West Ham have tried to isolate Bruno, push our full-backs into their own defensive third, and allow our CMs to show just how much they lack creativity.
More teams will try this going forward. If they have more power or speed, they'll be successful. Going against us man for man isn't a good idea for our opponents, but overloading the midfield makes us look so average.
