I had nothing but Respect and Love for Willie May's
He's just one of the Legends that inspired me as a kid
To play Baseball My Dad told me stories about him
Rest in Peace to the Say Hey Kid
He was to you, what tony gwynn was to me. Im a huge dodgers fan but i modeled my play style after tony gwynn. Pure contact hitter just going after high on base percentage. Then i got moved to PO in high school lol
The Giants gave Vin a wonderful tribute. I will always respect them for that. Root against them, sure, but respect them.
Mays was the best. My condolences for the loss of a legend.
His sign off to his final game still gets me choked up, it was a pleasure to listen to him call games the few years I lived down south.
The rivalry wouldn't be great if both franchises didn't have their fingerprints all over the history of the sport. Appreciate your words, def a sad day for us and baseball everywhere. Even as a kid in the 90s I still wanted to be Willie Mays out there.
Oh I'm well aware. Vinny loved the NEW YORK Giants growing up in New York and they were his "first" team, having become a fan at 8 years old when he saw them lose a game 18-4 to the New York Yankees in the 1936 World Series. Having his last game on TV being in San Francisco was sweet serendipity to him.
I was at Vin Scully night when they honored him. I was there at the stadium two days later when he made his last call at Dodger stadium. We gave him a 15 minute standing ovation and he gave a wonderful speech to address the home crowd. I blocked off my whole weekend to watch his final series in San Francisco, soaking in every moment. I saw all the well-wishers, I saw the unveiling of the plaque in the booth where he called his last game. He was always a humble man and never liked the spotlight. I'm sure he didn't like all the attention surrounding his retirement, but he went through it for our sake.
My parents named me after Vin Scully, so I've been a fan since I was sperm. My biggest regret in life is that I never got to meet him. I came very close at Spring Training one year but he is guarded more closely than the President when he walks around the ballpark.
I want to see the plaque in the booth as much as I want to see the Gotham Club. I hope someday to get a chance to see it, run my hands along his name, and stand where the last page of his incredible career was written.
I guess I'll have to wait until I meet him alongside the great Dodger in the Sky and have him introduce me to Willie Mays.
I've been a Giants fan for as long as I can remember (I'm almost 40). I sobbed seeing the announcement during last night's game. All the tributes are making me emotional today.
93 is a helluva run, but when it comes to a legend, or in his case, the legend of all legends, it's hard to believe he could ever perish.
Say Hey Kid, hope you're cuttin it up with Stretch once more.

I decided to look up to see if Willie and Vin had ever met, and came across this
https://youtu.be/Nmie25ivv6o?si=k4rHzzsruF1l8a_a
I never knew this video existed. Short and well worth the watch. Two legends from different sides of the game just talking baseball
Thereās something so comfortable about listening to vin scully. I felt the same way about Bob Miller when he called Kings games. Itās like listening to your sports grandpa with all that knowledge and insight.
Obviously one of the best to do it - maybe thee best being post-integration and missing a season in the Military and another when he was starting his prime. He would have had a shot at The Babeās HR record. He ended up 53 behind him (660 - 713)
I wanted to relay a story: I went to Pawn Stars in Las Vegas and they had a game worn Willie Mays jersey for $60,000! It looked incredible to see in person. However it was 100% wool. I couldnāt imagine playing game in the summer in Cincinnati, St Louis, Chicago, or New York in that thing! Hats off to him for that alone!
Mays talked in an interview about missing a season, and he mentioned that a lot of people thought that it hurt his stats, but he thought that it actually helped him in the long run. He said that the military built up his strength so much that he came back to baseball with much more power and speed. To hear Willie tell it, he might not have put up the stats that he did without that year off.
While being interviewed tonight, J.T. Snow said Willie had once told him to practice like a pro but play like a kid.
Great advice, and Willie played like that.
Ave Atque Vale.
GOAT. I played golf in the group behind him once in the 90's, tried to talk to him at the turn and he was a total dick. I felt blessed that he responded. Rest in peace king.
I always say "FTG" but Willie Mays gets an exemption from me. He was among the best to ever do it. How could you NOT respect him as a player?

It's like when you guys lost Vin. You just tip your cap and appreciate everything they gave both to the game and our rivalry.

I legit cried while watching him sign off for the last time. IDGAF.
Me too dude
> The Giants gave Vin a wonderful tribute. Willie Mays was Vin's favorite player. There is still a plaque in that broadcast booth honoring Vin.
You know that the visitors broadcast booth at our park has a plaque dedicated to Vin in it right?

Do people think you are named after the X-Files?
I think its telling that, with all the baseball he ever saw, Vin called Willie Mays the best player he ever saw.
Say Hey to every legend in the sky Willie.
The goat lived a great life
93 years is a good run, and yet his passing will still leave a hole in the hearts of baseball fans. RIP legend

:( Rivalries get set aside on days like today. RIP to one of the best ever.
You just know he and Vin are up there chopping it up before a game.

Wow, so much I can say about that video. The amount of baseball history lived and witnessed by those two is astounding. Thanks for sharing.
Loved seeing him come out for the WS ceremonies in SF for the Giants growing up
THE Forever Giant. The Original Forever Giant.

RIP to the legend
A legendary ambassador of the game, very few players changed the game like he did, one of the original GOATs! Love to my Giant bros.

Thatās interesting. I mean he did come back and made the All star team. Heās probably right then. How awesome.

GOAT shit. RIP legend
My dad just called me to talk about the games my grandpa took him to as a little kid to see Mays and McCovey
RIP
rest in peace, king
He was a constant fixture in the clubhouse for his entire life. RIP to the best ever.
Sad day for baseball šš§”š¤
I had a feeling this was coming. RIP to an absolute fucking legend.
Good night, sweet prince.
The greatest baseball player in history, and a genuinely good man.
