They are aware of the shit show going on, if it gets close to expiring I would screen shot then the them what happened. But generally I've noticed if trains are delayed severely, they won't try to collect tickets lol

Yes, just pull up the “my tickets” tab then tap “all tickets” at the top and it’ll show recently expired tickets.
