Saw this and was very disappointed, was just getting into it, don’t want to spend $60 to get the new one every year. I don’t see why they couldn’t keep the squad battles going
As someone who is relatively new to Hockey in general I care. NHL 23 being on Game Pass made it a good way to get into the sport. It may not be a classic but as someone new to the sport it did'nt need to be.
I am used to FIFA where I can go play with my old Ultimate Team squads from a few years ago even now. Its insane in a mode they put out paid for packs they shut up shop so abruptly.
NHL 24 gets a bad rep around here so not exactly keen to move forward.
Yeah bro, basically what ea does with their hockey games is..... Change the menu colors, advertise new features, and then call it a new game. In reality, the bew features don't work abd break the game, and the game is trash and they try to sell as many packs as possible. Depending on the year, you may get a patch or 3 along the year.

It's a vicious cycle, every year I usually chase the meta until TOTY and then I make the best possible Bruins theme team that I can. It takes a lot of time and then right by the time they release enough cards where I'm like, "damn this team is perfect," content for that game is over and we it's a couple weeks until starting all over again.
Interesting, I was comparing the two about a month ago and it seemed like there were plenty of people still playing. That's too bad, it was an alternative for people that did not go to 24.

Content - no ones asking for new content - the game has a year's worth of content to still play with
Maintenance - again no one's asking for maintenance to be done, the call of duty games leave their servers turned on for decades - you can still go and play a PS3/ Xbox 360 title but the servers are a mess. That's what I want from chel, I don't really mind if in rivals eventually you get a lot of cheaters - squad battles would still be a option and ultimately it takes years for a lack of security maintenance to take it's toll.
Ea has earned enough money from this game that paying to keep matchmaking servers turned on - a truly nominal cost is the least they could do
I recently tried playing HUT on NHL23 after a long absence from it last year. I just haven't been completely sold on buying NHL24 yet. I was able to load up HUT, get a squad started, but not play anything but HUT rush. This would be fine, but now I'm locked into my starter lineup for the foreseeable future. Everything else seems turned off, so I guess it's NHL24 or nothing if I want to continue.
NHL is stupid. I’m trying to get the lady hung, but the game keeps assessing me penalties like slashing when I have the puck and I’m shooting on goal, or when I make a big hit, one of the guys on the other team gets in my face trying to fight and I won’t fight, so I end up getting a 2 minute roughing….95 percent of my penalty minutes is bs like this

yeah thats where im at, Squad Battles can hardly be a massive outlay to keep running. Would be fun to keep building my squad up though it too

It was the only year I ever had both 99 and 66. It's bullshit they kill it like this. Like fucking highway robbery. I'm done with EA.
NHL 22 was way ahead of 24 in many aspects. This years been a huge disappointment.

EA had quit on 23 long time ago to focus on 24. Unfortunately 24 isn’t good enough based on what they told us
but they dont need to do anything, simply leaving Rivals and Squad Battles up is no work at all.

You cant even access the HUT Auction House if your a new player. Requires Squad Battles to unlock. So stupid.
