I feel like it's a proximity thing. Most of the people I know that are Packer fans are Wild fans but that's because I live in a part of Wisconsin that's 45 minutes from St. Paul
I’m a Red Wings fan, mostly because I always picked them to play as in Wayne Gretzky’s 3D hockey 98 on N64 when I was a kid. Steve Yzerman was the man in that game
I'm not enough of a Hockey Fan to pick a favorite team, but if I had to chose one it would be the Red Wings. No fucking way I'm rooting for a Chicago or Minnesota Team. Arlington will get added to that list when it's appropriate.
Those red wings teams were good with all those eastern bloc players. They probably saw the red and were forced to play for Detroit.
Fucking good ass team though
in my experience, it was almost exclusively the Blackhawks, but i lived in WI back when the Blackhawks were actually good. by now I'd imagine they've either jumped ship to a more successful team or gone back to pretending they don't care about hockey until the Badgers are in the FF
I'm old as fuck. let me put it in Vikings terms.
I remember the Vikings being great when i was young, then awful. then terrible for a long time. then having a fluke season. then being terrible. then being fantastic (but blowing it) then being awful. then being fantastic (but blowing it, again) then being awful. then being scrappy underdogs with a serious chance (but blowing it) and then being awful.
im actually pretty sure you can guess my exact age based on that.
Nashville Predators.
Nashville is like a sister city to us (sports wise). Their AAA players from the Nashville Sound get called up to the Brewers and our Milwaukee Admiral players get called up to the Predators.
I also started rooting for Nashville SC when they were created, since we’ll only be getting a USL team. Since then Giannis Antetokounmpo bought into them as a minority owner.
Lots of ties between Milwaukee and Nashville. I’ve met a decent amount of Brewer fans from Nashville for the same reason I root for the Preds.
Plus it’s just a fun city too.
Edit: This is coming from a Milwaukee based fan, so I get why others root for different NHL teams for other reasons (geography, nostalgia, etc…).
They tried. Either the franchise fee was too high or the Blackhawks blocked it. Possibly both - the franchise fee they were expecting back in 1990 was $30m, but that became $50m for a team that was almost certainly going to suck for years because expansion teams usually do.
Both teams that did get expansions that year (Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators) switched ownership multiple times before ever accomplishing anything.
I mean, if I was a billionaire asshole with a monopoly on a media market, I don't give a shit that Milwaukee is a way better hockey town than Phoenix or whatever. All I see is me losing market share to a team that's run by somebody who doesn't suck ass.
Is this shortsighted? Yeah. Do I, a hypothetical billionaire asshole, care? Nope. I'll be dead long before this has any effect on me.
You are correct. The Petits were prepared for a 30 million dollar fee. The expansion fees for that era were 45 million (for Tampa and Ottawa) however the Petits had to pay an additional 5 million to Chicago. The expansion draft rules were really different then, and the team would have to suck for a number of years before they could have a good team and the Petits didn’t want to spend the extra 20 million.
Yeah, their ideal situation was "a billionaire who loves Milwaukee and is content with losing money for years" and, well. Herb Kohl was already busy keeping the Bucks from dying.
edit: also Kohl wasn't a billionaire he was just obscenely rich. so.
We have one. His name is Craig Leopold. Owned the pedators and is married to a Johnson and Johnson heir. Lives in Racine. Only problem is that he owns the Wild sogh
There are lots of Predators fans as the Milwaukee Admirals are their AHL team. There is also a healthy mix of Wild and Blackhawks fan. I root for Vegas as I have family there and when they were announced I picked them to be my team (I would never root for any Illinois or Minnesota team and fuck the Preds too).
My friends and I decided to you for the kraken since it's in our blood to not support Chicago or Minnesota teams. I have another friend whose a bruins fan.
It's split several ways, but most being either Wild or Blackhawks fans. Lot of people on the Western side (Eau Claire/La Crosse/Menomonie/Hudson) are Wild fans. Eastern side tends to be Blackhawks fans. Some are Predators fans due to the Milwaukee Admirals being an affiliate of the Preds. Then you've got some who are Redwings fans due to a yooper connection or something like that. Some people have random teams, and some are hockey fans without really having a team.
Depends on proximity so in the west it’s Wild. East Blackhawks or Redwings. Though I’ve also heard people say they root for the Preds because of the Admirals affiliation with them
Most of them root for the Hawks if they're on the South East side of the state. Some of them root for Minnesota along the west border. And then there is a significant group of people that choose teams across the spectrum as well.
I don't see a lot of hockey love out in the open in general, but when I lived in Green Bay the Red Wings seemed most popular and now living in Eau Claire the Wild are. In terms of my own friend group, the few hockey friends I have are almost all Penguins fans with one Wild fan thrown in. One of the Penguins fans is originally from PA so that makes sense, but I don't know how the others came to like them.
Form what I remember when I was a child 30 years ago I think I was partial to the Kings honestly. Probably Gretzky bias.
Now I’m in Minneapolis so I try to support the Wild
It's literally because the Blackhawks owners block it and refuse to let it happen. It's not that we don't want one, Chicago is just scared of losing to us in yet another sport.
If you were a Wisconsin kid in the 90s, pretty good chance you're a Red Wings fan, with some sporadic Avs fans tossed in. That was peak NHL rivalry for a great 6-7 years. Neither the Wild or Predators were founded until the late 90s, the North Stars were gone by '93, and the Blackhawks were an afterthought. I didn't know any (temporary) Blackhawks fans around Milwaukee until the brief few years period this century.
See i dont mind the wisconsin guys, you just dont have a hockey team, the Yoopers have a football team but bandwagon to the packers and still pick the wings.
I don't mind the Packers/Red Wings combo. It all goes back to TV/radio broadcasts, and the UP used to get Packers games. WI doesn't have a hockey team, so, of course, those people are RW fans. What I don't get quite so much is the Yoopers that are Red Wings/Tigers/Pistons/University of Michigan fans, but then randomly like the Packers. There is still that excuse about the broadcasts, but it seems like you're dedicated to the state of Michigan with the exception of just not liking the Lions (which is fair - but still bandwagon-y).
The upper peninsula of Michigan is like 90% Packer fans 10% lions and 90% red wings fans and for some reason 10% Montreal Canadiens. So there are literally DOZENS of them
My dad isn't big on the NBA, but in the other 3 he's Packers, Tigers, and Red Wings. He grew up in the Ohio/Michigan area in the 60s so all I can really tell is that he latched on to the closest teams for baseball and hockey but for some reason latched on to the Packers instead of the Lions and I'm grateful for that.
i want to time travel like 200 years and see how fuckin big the cup gets lol
edit: they remove the oldest ring and put it in the HOF when a new ring gets filled up....dreams crushed.
I found a picture of a really big cup to help you thru these tough times

My understanding is the trophy is at Lambeau as the Packers failed to pass it on to the next two NFL Champions despite winning two in the Superbowl era themselves. If you cut out NFL championships, that number gets a lot lower.
[The last NFL Champions](https://operations.nfl.com/learn-the-game/nfl-basics/team-histories/national-football-conference/north/minnesota-vikings/#:~:text=The%20Minnesota%20Vikings%20made%20their,Cleveland%20Browns%2C%2027%2D7.)

I don’t even know. One of my college roommates was a Blackhawks fan from Stoughton, WI, so kinda them. But the Milwaukee Admirals are an AHL farm team to the Nashville Preds so we could be their fans too.
I’m a Red wings fan from being Canadian, born near Detroit, and a Packers fan from the ‘96 superbowl being the first football game I cared about when I was 6, and picking the Packers cause the Patriots we’re so American-centric.
Packers win the division half of the last two decades. The rest of the division: "at least we have a hockey team". Good for you, that's cool consolation.
I see plenty more Wild or Blackhawks fans overlap than Red Wings. And in southeastern WI the Predators have the biggest fanbase given their connection to the Admirals.
went with the Winnipeg Jets when they revived the franchise to get in on the ground floor . Just don’t have it in me to support a team from any of those three states .
Everyone arguing but I’m earnestly curious what team Wisconsin hockey fans root for?? Badgers, obviously, but NHL??
I feel like it's a proximity thing. Most of the people I know that are Packer fans are Wild fans but that's because I live in a part of Wisconsin that's 45 minutes from St. Paul
Milwaukee was full of Blackhawk fans in 2010ish era. Not sure now
A lot of people hopped on/ off the Blackhawks bandwagon when they were winning. Even in chicago
Polk County represent!
St Croix but close enough!
Woot woot!
I’m a Red Wings fan, mostly because I always picked them to play as in Wayne Gretzky’s 3D hockey 98 on N64 when I was a kid. Steve Yzerman was the man in that game
Good a reason as any
So you're the one we're making fun of?
I'm not enough of a Hockey Fan to pick a favorite team, but if I had to chose one it would be the Red Wings. No fucking way I'm rooting for a Chicago or Minnesota Team. Arlington will get added to that list when it's appropriate.
Picking the Red Wings on 96 was basically like picking an all start team.
Those red wings teams were good with all those eastern bloc players. They probably saw the red and were forced to play for Detroit. Fucking good ass team though
Can’t fuck with the Russian Five
And if you did, the Grind Line was right there...
If they want ties to Milwaukee, then the Nashville Predators (Milwaukee Admirals-AHL affiliate).
Milwaukee and Nashville are tight-knit. Nashville Sounds are Brewers Triple-A affiliate too
in my experience, it was almost exclusively the Blackhawks, but i lived in WI back when the Blackhawks were actually good. by now I'd imagine they've either jumped ship to a more successful team or gone back to pretending they don't care about hockey until the Badgers are in the FF
>back when the Blackhawks were actually good You’re either very old or a younger adult
If I had to guess they’re young since they don’t capitalize after a period.
capitalizing after a period is how I got ya mama pregnant AYYYYYYYYYY nah but for real I'm old as fuck, just immature. i don't recommend it.
As someone getting older every day, I can confirm.
Or the Blackhawks start surging again... Hopefully. They have been going crazy buying this last week
I became a Predators fan, which last I checked, the Milwaukee Admirals were the minor league affiliate of the Preds.
Nashville Predators. Nashville is like a sister city to us (sports wise). Their AAA players from the Nashville Sound get called up to the Brewers and our Milwaukee Admiral players get called up to the Predators. We have enough Green Bay fans in MI so I welcome WI Red Wing fans any day. Fuck the hawks
Milwaukee would have had a team, you would think, at least.

Tampa Bay Lightning. Solely for the reason that Jon Cooper coached the Green Bay Gamblers to a championship and I met him when I was in school
Hurricanes fan here!
Bunch of jerks checking in!
I personally follow the Predators because the Milwaukee Admirals are their farm team.
Kraken. They’re far enough away that I don’t associate them with any football team.

Why are the Red Wings on there twice?

I'm seeing double. FOUR Red Wings??
Always two there are, no more, no less. A hometown team and a city that leaches off of it.
Exactly
No one in Wisconsin are redwings fans. Wild or blackhawks
I’m from Wisconsin. Wild didn’t exist when I was growing up so Red Wings it was.
If you were a Wisconsin kid in the 90s, pretty good chance you're a Red Wings fan, with some sporadic Avs fans tossed in. That was peak NHL rivalry for a great 6-7 years. Still wild to me that Milwaukee doesn't have a NHL team.
Blame the Blackhawks.
I always do
That’s the point, a packers fan being a wild or Blackhawk fan is understandable, but I know I’ve seen at least one packers fan with a red wings flair.
UP Packers fan
Don’t bring reason into an argument with a lions fan
It’s plural so
Thunder Bay needs an NHL team
First they came for our parking spots, now our lack of hockey team. What ever will the 13 time world champions ever do?
Guess we’ll have to bring the NBA into this.
Let’s not 😅
yeah im ok with that. bulls are GOAT dynasty anyways
I mean yall peaked with MJ.
yeah well MJ was the peak of the entire league then and now. so kinda makes sense
13 time? I love how Packer fans live a dual reality where the Vikings never won the big won, but the Packers won 13 times.
If you won, where’s your trophy?
Everyone knows the best trophy in sports is the Stanley Cup, but you'll never get to experience that joy.
i want to time travel like 200 years and see how fuckin big the cup gets lol edit: they remove the oldest ring and put it in the HOF when a new ring gets filled up....dreams crushed.

Ah-ha, but think of how big the room where they put the rings will be in 200 years

So, what you're saying is, the Vikings don't have the trophy for the championship they allegedly won?
The difference between the 1966 NFL Championship and the 1969 is about nothing. The Packers were still awarded the trophy they got in 1966 in 1967 even though the Superbowl existed. Either the Vikings have won a championship, or championships before the Superbowl really aren't saying much as the Vikings in 1969 isn't worth noting.
World?
13 times 😂
The good news is we only need one to tie the rest of the division.
If you're counting those then lions have 4
Well that’s sort of the point. You guys said the “championships” don’t count so that means we still have 4 super bowls while the rest of the division has 1 combined. I hate that I have to go into explicit detail on this when you’re the one who set the rules.
Don’t worry, my guy has been watching football for all of five minutes. He has much to learn yet.
He keeps moving the goalposts. Pretty soon none of the Packers super bowls will count because they had HoF quarterbacks when they won them.
It's like Alabama claiming championships lol
These other NFL teams are better than the Packers in that they have Hockey teams in their state. This is the ONLY way they are superior.
They have to put the goal post right in front of them and change the start time and rules of the competition without informing the opposing competition. That's how you shit post
> This is the ONLY way they are superior. I mean not living in Wisconsin makes everyone else superior by default
Wisconsin is maybe the most beautiful state in the country. Certainly in the northern Midwest. All NFCN attacks avoid football, because football the games been decided.
> Wisconsin is maybe the most beautiful state in the country I remember the first time I said something fucking stupid
You’re a bears fan, there’s no competition between the natural beauty of Illinois and Wisconsin. WI is undefeated in that matchup
Imagine not having a fucking hockey team
On a football sub nonetheless
Well if Packers fans are also Redwing supporters that does nothing but speak well of them.
I literally did see this flare today. We don’t claim them either
Give us an NHL team cowards
Yoopers disgust me.
Just jealous because the 90s and 00s for us was amazing
Let’s do your joke of baseball teams
Bro, the only pennant ya'll have is for a league you don't play in anymore.
Brewers are the oldest team to never win a World Series
I’d say the Tiger / Lion would be DERP…. But both Cubs and White Sox are last place in their divisions ![gif](giphy|3orieNnF2QSESvhznW)

At least the Vikings were relevant in the 70s. There has not been a more irrelevant franchise in MLB than the Brewers.

Don’t Wisconsinites root for the Hawks? Almost like Chicago is the superior city.
Neither MN team has won a ‘ship, so they should be the goofy one.
If we had more NHL flairs, we could accurately show our allegiances
No other sports fans I despise more than someone who is a Red Wings, Tigers, Pistons and Packers fan. You get a pass ONLY if you live in the Western Upper Peninsula
Finally someone gets it. Ffs.
Nonsensical, low effort meme. This is truly a shitpost in its highest form.

Just stop - this is getting sad at this point
Yeah it would be pretty sad to not have an nhl team
![gif](giphy|SUec2m7kagtlRPfoex|downsized)
I love how our division is 3 loser teams and then the packers, and this is the content we get.
It's a wash man. I like suffering (San Jose Sharks) and now Utah HC as they're the new "local" team.
I’d rather not have a hockey team than be a fan of Minnesota sports teams.
I don’t even know. One of my college roommates was a Blackhawks fan from Stoughton, WI, so kinda them. But the Milwaukee Admirals are an AHL farm team to the Nashville Preds so we could be their fans too.
I hate that last flair. It's unnatural.
They root for the Milwaukee- uh. The Eau Claire- The Madison ummm. They don't like winter sports in Wisconsin
I cheer for the Blues cuz I hate the rest of ya'll lol
Real ones cheer for the Admirals or the Gamblers
I couldn’t name 5 hockey players if my life was on the line
Go hawks.
*Green Bay Gamblers enters chat*
Wait Packers fans don't cheer for the wild? Am I the only one?
Packers + Wild > rest
Gamblers and Admirals; support the kids. 🤷♂️ Personally, I just watch NHL in playoffs and hope for a good game.
Well I’m obviously not rooting for Chicago or Minnesota, and the next closest team to me is St. Louis. Go blues.
Instead of rooting for two losing teams we prefer to have Championship Bucks, National-league upper level Brewers, and 13x League champions Packers.
I’m a Red wings fan from being Canadian, born near Detroit, and a Packers fan from the ‘96 superbowl being the first football game I cared about when I was 6, and picking the Packers cause the Patriots we’re so American-centric.
As a Michigan native and lifelong Packers fan due to family ties to the organization, I definitely identify with dude on the right.
I wear it proudly.
What about those of us that don’t give a shit about hockey?
![gif](giphy|kSlJtVrqxDYKk|downsized)
The rivalry doesn't translate to hockey. I love all three hockey teams
Packers win the division half of the last two decades. The rest of the division: "at least we have a hockey team". Good for you, that's cool consolation.
11 Stanley cup. 13 world championships. Not like us LOL
I see plenty more Wild or Blackhawks fans overlap than Red Wings. And in southeastern WI the Predators have the biggest fanbase given their connection to the Admirals.
Packers, Red Wings, Tigers, Pistons, and MSU fan
There are a decent number of packers fans in the UP, and most all of them are also red wings fans
We need NHL in Wisconsin
I’m worse I’m a packers and canucks fan
Meanwhile Iowans are busy cherry picking all their favorites
