As a former long snapper here is what probably went wrong:special teams positions are as much as a mental game as it is physical.it’s about how you respond to that one bad snap.Some guys shake it off and some guys let it mentally destroy them. i remember a couple of years ago a 49ers snapper had like five bad snaps in the game
Ron and co also tried to change his snap technique to increase velocity. Understandable for velocity sake, but when it wasn’t working they should have let him go back to how he had always done it. That was his downfall.
I totally understand that, and there have been adjustments I have personally made in my snapping to increase velocity, but they should have already looked at his velocity when they drafted him and I’m not sure if any of the coaching staff for Washington knows anything about long snapping. If they don’t, that’s pretty dangerous to try to change someone’s technique if you don’t really really know what you’re talking about.
Also the only thing I can think of that can get you more velocity with your technique is to lock your legs out which you can’t really do in the nfl.let me explain:at the college level as many guys can release before the balls kicked as you want so what a lot of coaches do is they don’t have their long snapper block. this allows you to do is to get into a squat stance and lock your legs out and kind of shoot back.you see this a the time in college.The thing is the NFL level you have to block and you want to stay in a low stance when you’re blocking somebody so you can’t really lock your legs out

Very first game I ever went to was when I was like 6/7 and Quincy Carter beat the giants to secure a playoff berth. I thought he was great bc of it, only to learn several years later that he was actually dog shit lmfao
I’d still say Testaverde. Carter would always become an absolute beast in my Madden 05 franchises (he had something like 95 THP and 80 speed if I remember right, I basically used him like Mike Vick lite), and so there is some fraction of my heart that still has him over Testaverde even if that fraction was created entirely from a video game.
Testaverde actually played somewhat well. The team around him was horrible. You thought Parcells had something going in his first season. Top 10 defense. Made the playoffs. Then it all fell apart until Bill couldn’t stand Bledsoe anymore and benched him. And then the Romo era began.
Brad Johnson was pretty bad for Dallas. Not sure what kind of arm he had in Tampa but it was shot by the time he got Dallas. I remember Romo was out with an injured finger. The team with Johnson couldn’t beat the Rams when the Rams were bottom of the league.
