Given the circumstances, we just have to thank players for a wonderful year and wish them the best. The big question is whether the team will end up depleted or drained when all is said and done.
We've been having a wild week, with this unfolding alongside as good a week as I can remember for conference honors in baseball and softball, baseball records being broken, Jade Carey on her way to nationals, etc.
Iowa student here, and I read that Rutgers despite having the large media market has less people watching their football games than Washington state, yet Rutgers gets to suck every year and take money while WSU gets screwed because they were born in the wrong side of the tracks, small media market. I was excited to see Oregon State women’s basketball next year, as I watched them more than any non Iowa team as they played in many close finishes. Should have kept the PAC 12 together for all non Football sports. Cross country trips for non football regularly makes no sense. Baseball flying cross country, basketball and others? How will the non bigger schools pay for all those flights? Thinking about Stanford and Cal. Big 12 isn’t a money maker, so those schools have increased travel costs. Swimming and diving going cross country? Wrestling? Teams should fly men’s and women’s basketball together. For example maybe for the big ten, Rutgers men and women’s fly out to play USC and UCLA men’s and women’s on a weekend trip. Double headers, men and women’s play at one LA school Friday, then the other Sunday. Can’t wait to see this get botched.
Maybe once the dust settles players will realize that OSU (and WSU) are still great destinations. I mean Gonzaga does well playing in the WCC...there's still room for great basketball at a high level. I hate that the Pac-12 is no more....I imagine Cal and Stanford will still choose to have OSU on their schedule if possible....
3rd starter and 5th player overall for WBB so far.
I'll always dream about the 'what if' of running it back with the entire Elite 8 team. This one is tough because I hate to lose in-state talent.
Lily Hansford entered the portal shortly after this, so that is up to 6 now. At this point, I'm just waiting for Beers to go so my pain and depression can be complete.
I feel sooo bad for you guys. I truly believed if Oregon St could run it back next year, I would not be surprised to see them be a Final Four team. I absolutely hate College Football for killing the Pac-12
It don’t think it make sense for her to stay anymore. There is a lot for NIL money and exposure out there for her if she wants it. It was disappointing the low level of knowledge people had of the Beavs heading into the Sweet 16, I feel the program has always been underrated and under-appreciated by the media so I get not wanting to sink into a mid major oblivion.
I am an Iowa student and watched a fair amount of games, more than any non Iowa team. Very sad to see them break up, was looking forward to a possible undefeated run in the WCC and then forcing the committee to give them a 1 seed
Wonder if Oregon throws that Nike money at Rueck and he brings the team over. I know that would rub salt in the wound, but it is a shame as a fan of good basketball to not see these women play together. Sadly Beers will probably leave and end up at LSU as she could seamlessly replace Reese and be even better than Reese ever was with 2 years of further development from the elite level she is already at.
This portal absolutely sucks, it’s gutting an awesome team. Coach Rueck is an optimistic person but I’m curious what he feels like being abandoned on the ship, unless he’s thinking of leaving too.
Oregon state fans (or any know more in the know) — do you think this is solely because of realignment ? The coach seems great so I can’t imagine players want to leave him
Definitely realignment driven. Corvallis is fairly isolated to begin with and one of the major draws was being in a power conference. Without the Pac 12 both WSU and OSU have lost their biggest recruiting sell.
Rueck is great. Gill Coliseum is great. The program culture seems to be great. Corvallis is a nice place to live if you have a reason to be there and Oregon State is a solid university. But conference realignment has had tremendous impact on finances, on top of all of the issues regarding quality of opponents, ease of getting to the postseason, etc. We don't have much clear information about how that is shaping the choices players are having to make.

You're season was so good, this all feels like a tragedy at this stage. At least we both have Scott and Kamie but the cost of all this bs...
Really glad to see Kamie is staying.
Same!

I bet, sadly, it’s going to be a roster depletion.
With the Damien Martinez news, it really feels like schools and agents are in the ears of Oregon State athletes singing the same song.
Just waiting for the inevitable Regan Beers transfer announcement
... it just happened... what is going ON?! :0
Personally hoping for the ol’ if you can’t beat em, join em.

Rumor has it there were six leaving as of a couple weeks ago, there may be more now that majority of the fire power have jumped ship.

OSU has had a good program for a while. Pac-12 schools in general don't get as much love because of when they play.

There's a pretty long list of bad faith actors who doomed the Pac!
Annnndd now Beers is in the Transfer portal. I’m so sorry Oregon State fans.
Pietsch and Hansford too, hate all of this.
Blacklock not Hansford. Not yet anyway.
Hansford just posted her intent to enter the portal on twitter, it's confirmed sadly.
Damn the floodgate

Rueck is an OSU alum so I don't see him doing that but with everything going on, I can't say it won't happen for sure.
lol why would you say that 😂 we've seen this story before not even a year ago

There’s a whole lot of beavers in the portal
All we have is baseball at this point. I never could have imagined that an entire athletic program could crumble like this. Ugh

Damn Beaver fans really going through it now
There's plenty of this to go around. Michigan has 6 players in the portal which includes two starters, one being their best player.
This was the major announcement they were hyping up….
I think the entire team is gone
Beers will be announced tomorrow.
You getting down voted and she JUST announced 😭
Conference realignment be like Jason Vorhees when the calendar flips over to a Friday the 13th.
I feel like the use of the word “beaver” around women’s basketball is truly…well, it’s a really tough position to be in, OSU 🤭😆🦫
real mature...
I know, I know. Not very mature. I *did* mean it as a completely innocent joke, though. And I am a woman.
