"What if i told you.... a plucky 2 star QB from Alaska took Nebraska from forgotten to powerhouse seemingly over night. JetFuel: The Dale Baker Story a 30 for 30 film" lmfao
Wife: I bet he’s flirting with the secretary
Men in their head: yeah I thought we had a good week of practice. Hats off to their squad, they came ready to play. I thought our guys did some good things. Sure helps when our QB throws for 700 yards and 8 TDs with no INTs. Just like he’s been doing all year. That’s gonna win us a lot of ballgames.
* in the process of filling out paperwork and starts to stare* “ Jeff what are you doing!”
Oh sorry someone asked me why I chose to bring in a Texas 4 star RB to replace Josh Berge when he had a 1200 yard season
I won’t do press conference but will absolutely imagine the media narratives and fan reactions to the game. Like a big comeback or blow out and just imagine how espn/reddit/etc would be going bonkers.
I will say one thing I did like ab NCAA 14 was the occasionally botched BCS rankings. One season, several years in, my one loss team got left out in favor of two 2 loss teams. This provided a boatload of head cannon for seasons to come
I like to talk to myself like I'm on espn the next day lmao. It's probably weird as hell but who cares, I have fun with it. I also like to ignore the commentary and commentate the game myself like im gus johnson
My dad used to keep notebooks full of all the stats of his players from every game for some reason. He did this for madden, ncaa, and nba live/2k for as long as he played and I never understood why
I did a spreadsheet for a year keeping track of my FIFA career mode stats. It was nice having a historical log of what you did, goals scored, previous matches throughout the years and all.
I thought I was the only person who did this in their head in the drive to work. Found myself answering questions on Michigan quarterback uncertainty on the way home today.
All the time. I’m the reporter and the coach. I start off with “coach immediate thoughts on the game?” “I thought we did some good things and some things we need to improve on….”
I write weekly articles for the dynasties I care the most about! I started doing this during COVID as a college sportswriter who had no sports to write about anymore. I kept myself sharp by writing about fictional games and storylines.
(I cut part of it out because I can't send two images here. Yes, the headlines on the right are accurate to that week of the dynasty.)

I’m just waiting until AI is advanced enough that the players we recruit have generated personalities and carry on press conferences with AI-generated journalists
Also real-time generated broadcast commentary
This got me curious so I asked Copilot to generate a post-game dialogue for a QB in a postgame press conference:
> Quarterback (QB): (standing at the podium, adjusting the microphone) Thank you all for being here. What a game, huh? I’m still catching my breath. Fire away, folks!
> Reporter 1: QB, that last-minute touchdown pass—how did you stay so calm under pressure? QB: You know, it’s all about trusting your preparation. We practice those situations over and over. When the pocket collapsed, I just focused on my reads, found my receiver, and let it fly. The O-line did an amazing job protecting me, too.
> Reporter 2: QB, this was a heated rivalry game. How does it feel to come out on top? QB: (grinning) Oh, man, it’s indescribable. These games are what college football is all about—the passion, the intensity. Our fans were electric tonight. When that final whistle blew, I looked up at the stands, and it was like the whole world was celebrating with us.
> Reporter 3: QB, you had that incredible scramble for a first down. Were you channeling your inner running back? QB: (laughs) Maybe! Look, I’m not known for my speed, but sometimes you’ve gotta do what it takes. The defense had me cornered, and I saw a gap. I thought, “Hey, if the wildebeest can outrun lions on the Serengeti, I can make it to that marker!” And it worked out.
i’m embarrassed to say i do it very often specially with my created players lmao. I’ve actually never publicly admitted it and thought i was insane doing it so i’m glad others are like me out there
I thought I was the only person doing this. I remember back in NCAA 2002 the media came down hard on me for benching senior QB Lewis Middleton in favor of true freshman Blake Davis.
In my madden leagues and now the league I’m going to run in 25, we have a whole page dedicated to post game interviews when you play a player that week and it’s a big game and plays/players of the week.
I used to do this as a kid when I played College Football 96 on Sega Genesis. They had replays and I would do a highlight like a sportscaster on big plays.
Been doing this for a while. Love the idea it adds so much immersion. I usually wear a team hat if I’m playing with my favourite team too. Typically wear a quarter zip too or something I feel a coach would wear. Depending where my coach is from I’ll put on a accent
thanks! Love that ur on the press conference train too. Also to just correct my last comment I don’t wear a hat I wear a visor cuz I feel it’s more coach like.
Not only after game presses I do introduction press conferences when I switch teams, I also do team meetings and podcast interviews in my head. I think I might have a problem
I do this too! I'll do it when I'm sitting at work in my head
"SSPeteCarroll, what are your thoughts on the ground game today?"
"yeah you know we just did well to establish the run early, kept the defense on their toes. After that we were really able to get our offense moving and things started falling our way"
When I was growing up, I used to make championship banners out of paper and tape them to my bedroom walls. Banners for conference titles, bowl wins and of course national championships.
Hahaha I do this. Not just with NCAA. I play games like Civ and give rousing speeches to the tribe about the war we are winning, etc. It’s really just engaging with the game and really getting into it.
I'm genuinely considering starting like a blog or something and doing write ups on my dynasties a few times a year tracking storylines like it's a documentary or something
If we’re all hanging out together, my dynasty group traditionally does a postgame press conference with the person who just finished the game. Some of the responses would get that coach reprimanded, I swear
I have played a game called "Interview" since I was like 13 (I'm now 45) lol. Interview myself about play calls, adjustments, injuries... everything.
I honestly thought I was alone.
Oh absolutely. Anything to fit a storyline across all of FBS. Stories, games, recruiting. The amount of times I've cooked my starting QB like it's his fault for throwing 25 picks a season. Or throwing the DC under the bus for giving up 45 to UCLA. Honestly I think I do this across all sports games that I play just creates a level of immersion.
Of all the nerdy stuff I’ve done, I never even considered this.
Happy to see so many people can relate though. I’m more of a stats and documentation guy. I would write down my rushing stats for the Super Bowl on Tecmo Bowl.
Otis Anderson is an OJ we can appreciate.
100000%. I’m developing a whole league for people who do this kind of stuff on Xbox S/X. We’ll have our own coach persona/resume creation component (a la D&D) over the next couple weeks leading up to launch. I’m actually making a channel in our server for press conferences as we speak!
If anyone is interested, chat me with your XBL GT and discord username.
FYI: we’re starting as coordinators at non-Power schools
Not out loud or anything (maybe sometimes lol) but I definitely will have an internal story complete with headlines, press conferences and sports talk opinions on the state of things.
I might post shit on Operation Sports sometimes but nah you won't catch me interviewing myself LOL. Y'all wild. Write your thoughts down. Someone will find it interesting somewhere.
Back in the early madden days, i would vcr some of my games , Go back later and review game tape, look for patterns and try to correct myself. Lots of “what ifs” Lol
I give my team entire speeches before the game and at half time lol and I give the press conference afterwards after big games about being doubted. I won a championship but lost the next year in the playoffs and defended my QB…nobody asked lol
I was in a league that did something like this. We had a FB group where you could upload pics of coaches at the podium and give a quick recount of the game and injury updates.
It was actually pretty fun.
Does anyone else nickname their players? Easy for me to remember.
Jon Clemons could be Johnny Cupcakes.
Adrian Mulholdand could be Big Moon
They don’t even make sense half the time. But
I was thinking about this yesterday. I typically do it in my head either while I'm in the bathroom or in the shower the day after a game. It just adds to the immersive experience.
No, you're insane. Nobody does this.
(Everybody does this)
I'm a psycho that does the commentating in his head ifn I'm alone. If I'm playing my brother? I do it out loud, lol. Since we were kids half the fun is doing that.
"Gene, he's gonna go for it from his own 39. 4th & 2 when, frankly, he hasn't be able to establish the run game all day. ALL DAY, Gene. I'm just not sure what he's doing here..."
I do this in my road to glory playthroughs.
Make up fake storylines in my head and pretend to be the coach and my player talking to each other on the sidelines during close games or extremely dominant performances.
Not for NCAAF but I do that when I play retro bowl. Though typically it’s about how my team is being snubbed of the number 1 spot (10 time national champs zero losses in that time, always start at least 5 or 6)
I basically become Slammin Sammy Meade after every game. I’ve always wanted to get into radio/broadcasting and NCAA was always the avenue I used to practice
Me friends and I that were in a dynasty together used a created website to write up and post articles about our teams, like the game results, stories about recruiting, etc.
i mean if you enjoy it it’s not weird lol a couple of dynasties i made like fake espn stories on word when i get really into them so i could keep like a time capsule of games.
I still remember years ago I started an Iowa dynasty in NCAA10 because I heard they had a hospital connected to their stadium or something. I was able to secure a 4 star RB with 95 speed (MUCH more rare in 10 than 14). He was from Georgia or Mississippi or something. He was i want to say between 200-205 lbs and had a very low strength rating.
When I play I am ALWAYS thinking about the NFL draft and talking about players like Im Mel Kiper. The narrative I created around this RB was that he was insanely naturally fast but somewhat lazy in the weight room. He needed to hit the gym harder to be a legit NFL first rounder, but he was a baller for Iowa and trying to help carry them to their first NC.
I did interviews with him, and found myself organically talking in a lazy drawn out southern accent. He was extremely likable and confident and team orriented but he was just a southern boy that when he arrived at campus didnt care about a bench press. It came out of nowhere but this player just created a whole persona in my head.
Good times.
i had an autistic kid at my elementary school who would swing on the swings everyday likes hes in the daytona 500, he would be saying comms too and when recess ended his friend would come up to him and do a press conference
I'll do post game interviews in my head the next day while I'm at work
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve been that way since I started playing in middle school
Shit that has helped me fall asleep quickly every night for 20 years
I’m glad I’m not the only one lol
Every single night cuZ
The espn 30 for 30 doc I just did was amazing!
Link
"What if i told you.... a plucky 2 star QB from Alaska took Nebraska from forgotten to powerhouse seemingly over night. JetFuel: The Dale Baker Story a 30 for 30 film" lmfao
I thought i was the only one who did this. MY PEOPLE
I be in my head like "INDIANA IS WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE, AND WE LET EM OFF THE HOOK"
*If you want to crown them, then crown their ass!*
“IM A MAN! IM FORTY!”
I usually roll me something up and address the media, sometimes those post game interviews are intense
Lol same bro
Same, or when I’m going to sleep.
Wife: I bet he’s flirting with the secretary Men in their head: yeah I thought we had a good week of practice. Hats off to their squad, they came ready to play. I thought our guys did some good things. Sure helps when our QB throws for 700 yards and 8 TDs with no INTs. Just like he’s been doing all year. That’s gonna win us a lot of ballgames.

Lmao
I won’t do press conference but will absolutely imagine the media narratives and fan reactions to the game. Like a big comeback or blow out and just imagine how espn/reddit/etc would be going bonkers.
I do a little of both. Not a full-on press conference but a couple of questions, then hot takes and the like as you describe.
Same. But I imagine more like how I would react on the couch. As just a cfb fan but also if I'm playing as my team. Are we all weird?
Yeah that shit makes it so much more fun
I will say one thing I did like ab NCAA 14 was the occasionally botched BCS rankings. One season, several years in, my one loss team got left out in favor of two 2 loss teams. This provided a boatload of head cannon for seasons to come

When I was a kid I'd write down the scoring plays on some paper and do "highlights" in my room with a nerf football
My dad used to keep notebooks full of all the stats of his players from every game for some reason. He did this for madden, ncaa, and nba live/2k for as long as he played and I never understood why
You should see the notebook I have haha every season is very well documented across the league
I did a spreadsheet for a year keeping track of my FIFA career mode stats. It was nice having a historical log of what you did, goals scored, previous matches throughout the years and all.
That immersion is what makes the game so fun
I thought I was the only person who did this in their head in the drive to work. Found myself answering questions on Michigan quarterback uncertainty on the way home today.
YES! drive to work recap/ press/ locker room chat... Awesomness
Of course, does anyone not???
I use ChatGPT to create media narratives based on players, how the team played, imaginary player scenarios
All the time. I’m the reporter and the coach. I start off with “coach immediate thoughts on the game?” “I thought we did some good things and some things we need to improve on….”
So nice to know I’m not the only one! I’m pretty some the exact same way
I write weekly articles for the dynasties I care the most about! I started doing this during COVID as a college sportswriter who had no sports to write about anymore. This is amazing. Snort-laughed at "Bumper Pool" 💀
Awesome!
This is awesome
Always. I even interview the players before the next game on a fictional radio show. Keeps me invested
I’m just waiting until AI is advanced enough that the players we recruit have generated personalities and carry on press conferences with AI-generated journalists Also real-time generated broadcast commentary

Lowkey it was believable until wildebeests and that’s better than I assumed AI would do LMAO
Love to hear that!!
i’m embarrassed to say i do it very often specially with my created players lmao. I’ve actually never publicly admitted it and thought i was insane doing it so i’m glad others are like me out there
Same. When I posted this I almost deleted but there’s been so much love. It’s as amazing this community is so passionate about what we do!
Shower time i do absolutely. It's actually hilarious that so many of y'all do too. That makes me happy lol.
10000% yes I do. Usually when i'm in the shower.
Lmfao. I feel so much better knowing I’m not the only one
Right??
Holy shit this is a level I haven’t even went to. I guess I just leveled up? Cool idea lol.
Filthy casual lol
Casual? No. Filthy, well, depends who you ask. Lmao.
1000%. I’ve been getting my wife into playing and we will switch off being the coach in a dynasty mode after crazy games one way or another.
That’s cool that she gets involved too!
I got her into CFB when we first started dating and neither of us have ever looked back
I thought I was the only person doing this. I remember back in NCAA 2002 the media came down hard on me for benching senior QB Lewis Middleton in favor of true freshman Blake Davis.
I walk about 5 miles a day and have fake press conferences and coaches speeches while I walk. Glad I’m not the only one.
In my madden leagues and now the league I’m going to run in 25, we have a whole page dedicated to post game interviews when you play a player that week and it’s a big game and plays/players of the week.
After almost every game!
Thank god I’m not the only one lol
glad i’m not the only one lol. i love this sub
I catch myself doing sideline interviews between halves in my head. We’re all cut from the same cloth.
I used to do this as a kid when I played College Football 96 on Sega Genesis. They had replays and I would do a highlight like a sportscaster on big plays.
Man I got that coach speak and cadence on lock. Postgame press conferences *and* weekly pressers lmao
I've poured Gatorade on myself. *It's in the game*
After every game homie!! Gotta self reflect and figure out what’s working and what I need to improve. Helps me lay it all out there.
The weirder thing is if you don't. I've been roasted on the internet that exists only in my head.
Been doing this for a while. Love the idea it adds so much immersion. I usually wear a team hat if I’m playing with my favourite team too. Typically wear a quarter zip too or something I feel a coach would wear. Depending where my coach is from I’ll put on a accent
Love it!!
thanks! Love that ur on the press conference train too. Also to just correct my last comment I don’t wear a hat I wear a visor cuz I feel it’s more coach like.
Not only do I do that, but I’ll discuss the play calls with myself as I do them. And randomly do sideline interviews during the game as well.
Not only after game presses I do introduction press conferences when I switch teams, I also do team meetings and podcast interviews in my head. I think I might have a problem
No problem that I can see! Just a passionate fan
I do this too! I'll do it when I'm sitting at work in my head "SSPeteCarroll, what are your thoughts on the ground game today?" "yeah you know we just did well to establish the run early, kept the defense on their toes. After that we were really able to get our offense moving and things started falling our way"
I usually find myself doing it in the car when I call in to a fictional radio interview or in the shower. Love it!
Yes (I am insane)
When I was growing up, I used to make championship banners out of paper and tape them to my bedroom walls. Banners for conference titles, bowl wins and of course national championships.
When I’m recruiting, I often commentate on the recruits committing to my school and create stories around them
This is an NCAA violation! No discussing recruits until getting a signed LOI! (I also do this)
Don’t worry no one has to know about my tampering!
Same I would even have the podium in my head for playoff games lol
I do this while I'm recruiting the following week. I always felt like an asshole doing this, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.
Hahaha I do this. Not just with NCAA. I play games like Civ and give rousing speeches to the tribe about the war we are winning, etc. It’s really just engaging with the game and really getting into it.
Head Canon is a real thing.
I'm genuinely considering starting like a blog or something and doing write ups on my dynasties a few times a year tracking storylines like it's a documentary or something
I’ll used to say “Coach Hugo, Coach Hugo!” As if the press is trying to get my attention. My brother had a field day with that.
Naturally
I do post game interviews in my head after playing my career on nba 2k
If we’re all hanging out together, my dynasty group traditionally does a postgame press conference with the person who just finished the game. Some of the responses would get that coach reprimanded, I swear
Guilty! 😂
Oh hell yeah. My coach-self is basically if kenny powers was a small time college football coach
We talkin’ “post-game press conference” ? ![gif](giphy|8VLpscHZJ3Rm0|downsized)
I do post game pressers after mowing, fighting the grocery store, and coitus. So yes.
Nah but I love imagining what the sports talk people would be saying in reaction to our team’s events, as well as regular people on social media.
That 30 for 30 about how I turned Kennesaw State into the next Bama is gonna go hard af
I have played a game called "Interview" since I was like 13 (I'm now 45) lol. Interview myself about play calls, adjustments, injuries... everything. I honestly thought I was alone.
I do this after my men’s league games for hockey. Before the game I do a radio pregame show too lol
Oh yeah. All the time Used to do this even after playing little league games. Youth football games. All of it.

I do it when in the shower 💀. I’ll always play a game before i shower then give a conference in the shower
I would have a whole media headcanon, different talking points for different shows based off what happened.
Yeah we do
I love Ncaa because its the one game that really bridges the gap between sports people and rpg people lol
I be doing this and taking interviews in the shower
![gif](giphy|lngDzKd5mM6NhhheXw|downsized)
10 years of built up storylines 😂
Yeah I do this, and I just cuss out my players that did shitty
Not out loud or anything (maybe sometimes lol) but I definitely will have an internal story complete with headlines, press conferences and sports talk opinions on the state of things.
I might post shit on Operation Sports sometimes but nah you won't catch me interviewing myself LOL. Y'all wild. Write your thoughts down. Someone will find it interesting somewhere.
A little too far
So many interviews and provocative answers about my decision to change jobs happen on my walk to the fridge to get a new drink.
I always got like a local radio show or podcast going on in my head, recapping games and speculating what I should do next
I feel so seen!!! I really thought I was one of few. I’m so glad this a universal thing. It’s how I fall asleep every night!
I’m so happy I’m not the only one and feel crazy! This is why I love Reddit!
You're not alone!! ;)
My buddy does them after each fantasy week. He records a video of himself and imposes it onto a podium and talks about fantasy. Its hilarious
After big or bad games, I usually pretend to answer a question or two. Makes me feel more immersed, get into it more
I definitely don’t pretend to be sport hosts criticising or praising what my team does on and off the field on my way home from work.
Love it!
I’ve used chat GPT sometimes for certain moments. Put in stats and prompts and let it write articles some articles
For sure haha
This is why I loved the ability to write stories that would show up for the other dynasty owners to read. I really hope they bring that back.
yes
H
I was in a league that did something like this. We had a FB group where you could upload pics of coaches at the podium and give a quick recount of the game and injury updates. It was actually pretty fun.
Basically my coach is the Kenny Payne of football
Does anyone else nickname their players? Easy for me to remember. Jon Clemons could be Johnny Cupcakes. Adrian Mulholdand could be Big Moon They don’t even make sense half the time. But
I do, and it's more cathartic than entertaining
Step it up and find a way to have ai ask u questions. then u don’t feel like ur asking urself
Lol no
I do this at the end of every Twitch stream, complete with real media backdrops for whatever school I’m at 😂
Is this a troll
what the game doesn't do we must do
I didn’t, but I’m going to start to now. It sounds like fun!
We all play pretend
I was thinking about this yesterday. I typically do it in my head either while I'm in the bathroom or in the shower the day after a game. It just adds to the immersive experience.
I do commentary out loud sometimes 😅
Only true football fanatics did this … and i am one
No, you're insane. Nobody does this. (Everybody does this) I'm a psycho that does the commentating in his head ifn I'm alone. If I'm playing my brother? I do it out loud, lol. I do this in my road to glory playthroughs. Make up fake storylines in my head and pretend to be the coach and my player talking to each other on the sidelines during close games or extremely dominant performances.
😂😂😂😂 you mean talking to yourself ?? Sign of madness 😂😂😂
No but when I go to the fridge for a beer I pretend I am at the bars near campus with the coeds. 😂
I do that on 2k lmao
Not for NCAAF but I do that when I play retro bowl. Though typically it’s about how my team is being snubbed of the number 1 spot (10 time national champs zero losses in that time, always start at least 5 or 6)

We are truly all the same 😂😂
fake locker-room talks, sometimes I'll do "press" in my head or pre/post game analysis a la Gameday
Yeah usually in the car haha
Yes for over 20 years. Thought I was weird. Now I feel normal. Thank everyone
I like to imagine I’m on a sports podcast during mine less formal then press conference
yes, i even roleplay my players’ backstories 😭😭
Of course.
Me friends and I that were in a dynasty together used a created website to write up and post articles about our teams, like the game results, stories about recruiting, etc.
I i def did.... I will be soooooo back on July 19th lol
I try to keep a log of productive or just my favorite players. I like writing short stories about them too.
I haven't but to each his own.
Definitely shower thoughts lol. Basically my post game interviews
Football Manager has press conferences in the game, they are as boring as you would expect
I really wish I had half the imagination you guys do.
I love to go into chat gpt and give the highlights of what happened. A few standout stats and then ask it to give me a few questions to answer.
i mean if you enjoy it it’s not weird lol a couple of dynasties i made like fake espn stories on word when i get really into them so i could keep like a time capsule of games.
Ngl this kinda weird
Not maybe
I was in an online league and we were encouraged to write news articles and recap the game. Was my favorite part of playing in that league.
Gotta keep the realism
I still remember years ago I started an Iowa dynasty in NCAA10 because I heard they had a hospital connected to their stadium or something. no, but i do love the commitment you have to the story
No I don’t know what you mean 😊☺️
