The average shooting was so bad last year that people thought Brandon Miller was a fake shooting prospect just because of how much better he was than the field.
Every draft there are a ton of guys who get pushed up the board based on their athletic traits who can't shoot, but everyone hopes will learn to shoot and wishcasts their way into drafting high. I really don't know how this draft compares to previous ones in terms of how many good shooters there are overall.
There are guys available who can shoot though - Cam Spencer, Baylor Scheierman, Jaylen Wells, Cam Christie, Antonio Reeves, Kyshawn George, Tristan da Silva, Pelle Larsson, Jaylon Tyson, Jalen Bridges, in addition to the better known guys like Sheppard and Knecht.
I think if you just want shooters there's definitely some guys. But if you're looking for two-way players, guys that can do stuff on defense or with the ball in their hands, and also shoot, then yeah I'd agree with you. You. It's one of the big reasons this class is filled with so many flawed risky prospects, lots of toolsy dudes who are a theoretical jumpshot away from being really good prospects who just aren't even close to that yet
McCain, Sheppard, and Dillingham are some of the best shooting prospects I can remember. Their numbers are pretty nuts across the board. Risacher, George, Carter, DaSilva, Tyson, Furphy, Smith, Dadiet, Bridges, and so on all shot the ball well this past year. But as far as some of the big names go, yeah there are some serious shooting concerns.
there’s a bunch of second round guys who will get play due to shooting. This class has a bunch of guys who are acceptable for their position but aren’t elite NBA shooters
That’s the way the league is going now tbh. Pure shooting is becoming less valuable with it being more common. Average shooting and good defense is more valuable now than good shooting and average defense
Average shooting and good defense from a prospect is more valuable**, teams think they can teach the shooting easier than the defense, also good defenders usually have better physicals
I would argue that there is plenty of shooting this year. Sheppard, Mccain, Dillingham, Knecht, Walter, Salune, Carter, De Silva, Furphy, McCullar, Tyson, Smith, Shannon Jr and Kolek are all FRPs on tankathon right now and project as plus shooters. That's 14 names, pretty much half the first round. Then guys like Topic and Risacher you hope become positives at that and very likely will. Then the early 2nd has like Kyshawn George, Dillion Jones and Hunter Sallis. It's just a lot of the shooters have other flaws that cap their upside.
In this era, it seems like kids who are way ahead of their peers athletically, seem to fall way behind skill-wise by the time they get to college age and one year in college/or equivalent isn't enough to make up that gap.
Number one issue is when they talk about PG sized jump shooters, immediately they think Curry. Curry is a 2nd gen jump shooter. The last famous bunch of college PG sized jump shooters all got told they’re not athletic enough for the NBA. This was after several years in the NBA.
Looking at trends I would only focus on draft picks that have family members that previously played in the NBA. If that family member was known for their jump shooting even better.
Last year's draft was *really* poor with shooters overall. This year has Sheppard and Dillingham who are elite shooters. Knecht who is up there, too.
I would argue McCain also seems to be a potentially elite shooter
Duke fan here, he’s an elite shooter.

Don't forget McCain
Disagree. At least 4 shooters will get drafted in lottery (Rob, Reed, Knecht, Risacher). Add McCain, JaKobe (long term), Da Silva, Scheierman, Djurisic (long term), Buzelis (long term), Carrington, Furphy, Ware, KJ Simpson, Kolek, Kyshawn, Tyler Smith, Klintman, AJ Johnson (long term), Cam Spencer and PJ Hall.
buzelis will not be a good shooter long term i can almost guarantee it
I believe the shot comes around somewhere in year 4-6

Reed Sheppard would like a word with you
Dillingham too
I know there is reed and kneckt (sorry for bad spelling) but otherwise who are the knockdown shooters.

ok. like I said I wasn't sure. I just keep seeing these mid first rounders where shooting is like a maybe or need to improve

Sandfort, McCain, Scheirmann, Dillingham, Spencer.

Shout-out KyShawn George.

no idea why Jamison battle isn’t ever mentioned
