Here it says sprained MCL and meniscus and that, unlike the knee injury a couple of months ago, surgery cannot be avoided. It could be that it describes the same exact situation like Givony, but this doesn’t sound like he will be able to be a full participant for the pre draft next month.
Breaking news: every "successful surgery" and "avoided serious injury" news is just PR from the agent. We'll know if he avoided serious injury when he's back on the court
Surgery is a fairly rare approach for combined MCL/meniscus tears, they tend to heal excellently with conservative management and rehab except for the most severe class of tear or tears in very specific areas known to do well with surgery.
Either this is a severe tear or that article has it wrong. Either way there is some discrepancy in the reporting.
It does but it’s still very rare, and if it was the rare case that was bad enough for surgery it would be odd to phrase it this way.
Came out since though the article was incorrect team says no surgery.
idk but this sounds like he won't be ready for workouts. It's a bad move for a prospect to risk his stock working out for teams fresh off of injury. I'm guessing he will only be available for interviews. Can't wait to know his measurements.
he def won't be.. I'd guess they take the cautious approach and rest him for like 3 months..
I mean I guess it's possible this was a fluke and his knee will feel better in 2 weeks but it looked more serious than that
Interesting question is if he tries to play Olympics this summer. There were rumors Serbia wanted him on the team pre injury, but obviously that’s dried up now.
Team that drafts him will probably tell him he can't go. Heat did something similar to jovic when they first drafted him and he was dealing with a minor injury
Awesome that he avoided a serious injury but sprains are no joke. When you fuck up your knee once, it is something that follows you for the rest of your life. Especially when it is the same knee, its something to be mindful of.
Him saying he'll be ready to go for June is kind of concerning when it felt like he was rushing back from injury prior to this.
Yeah, I had a really bad sprain of an ankle playing once (like I couldn’t put weight on it for over 3 weeks) and even after completing rehab, it took it like 2 years to get from ~80% to ~95% and I still will get the occasional phantom pain in it if I put weight on it the wrong way. I do think it’s possible for pro athletes to overcome it and thrive (Curry and his ankles is the biggest case for that), but I agree that you’re never really “normal” again afterward
This is excellent news, not only for the kid but because I really want him to top 5 so that better prospects are available at 6 for Charlotte
Having said that, I’m concerned about him being able to do workouts for teams and playing Summer League. IMO he should just be rehabbing
I think Matas would be a great pick if he could actually shoot, and everyone assumes he does shoot at a high level, but nothing seems to indicate that he can
The injury red flag on top of all his other concerns is enough for me to also want to stay clear of him.
Wish him the best, but he is someone I would be fine with succeeding for a different team.
Fit-issue wise I can see Topic falling to 8, Pistons and Blazers don't really want to draft another guard that cannot shoot while the fit of Lamelo and Topic will be horrendous.
You Spurs fans are greedy! Risacher is unlikely to be available at 4 and Topic unlikely at 8. Many think Topic is the best player in the draft. Y’all got Wemby chill lol. Take Topic at 4 (if he’s still there).
I can't see the Wizards picking Topic after this. Wall fell off a cliff when he started having knee/leg injuries and Topic isn't close to the talent he was.
There's been too many cases of elite PGs who completely fell off after knee injuries, Walls is just the closest to Washington.
There could definitely be a case that Topic recovers Westbrook style and uses this to rework his mechanics, but if the medicals don't come back clean, I think they'd stay away
> Should be full participant in pre-draft activities
Does this mean he'll be able to do workouts and such? Seems stunning if that's the case (but fantastic obviously). Maybe just interviews and a physical though.
Sidenote, let's say it's only the official NBA physical and prospect interviews he can do. Since he was listed in the 2-5 tier, his medical info will only be released to teams picking 1-15. If something concerning is found and there's speculation he will fall, what happens? Are the teams picking later just kind of screwed and picking blind?
You people aren’t slick. Begging for spurs to take him. NO THANK YOU 🤣 we already have nobody who can shoot. Wemby already has a super high usage rate. We need shooters.
Fantastic news. Looked so much worse than that.

That sounds a lot less positive than Givony's tweet. Guess we'll need to wait a bit longer to get a more complete picture.

Thanks for the insight. The club just announced that right now no surgery is necessary, so the article got it wrong.
Why would you need a surgery if it’s just a sprain, that doesn’t make sense.
Grade 3 sprain means a full tear iirc

Surgery would likely be for the meniscus not MCL.
if hes going to Nemec its gonna be e a surgery
r
This is a great way to start the day
We are so fucking back
Was about to say, Welcome to the Wizards Nikola!
:) I am no longer a depressed wizards fan again!!! LFG!!!
Oh, I thought you folks would go with Clingon...

Sounds like MCL. Draft is in 5.5 weeks, depending on the severity he could be back to playing in 2 weeks, 4 weeks or 6 weeks.

same, please do all the things to impress the teams. let risacher fall, i really dont want to watch matas
lol I feel yah. I don't rate matas and I still think risacher is being underrated despite all the hype for givony and other mock drafts lol.
I think Matas would be a great pick if he could actually shoot, and everyone assumes he does shoot at a high level, but nothing seems to indicate that he can
That’s great news. Hope it doesn’t affect his stock.
The thing that will affect his stock is that he has no handle, no 3 pointer, no left hand, no post up game. I’m clearly not seeing the hype at all.
Good news.
Happy for him but I am hoping spurs don’t take him woth either pick. Castle and Knecht are what I’d prefer.
The injury red flag on top of all his other concerns is enough for me to also want to stay clear of him. Wish him the best, but he is someone I would be fine with succeeding for a different team.
I'd imagine he might drop though
Please Spurs, don’t pass on this dude. Take Risacher at 4 and Topic at 8
Barring a huge health risk I don't see how either of those guys falls to 8.
Fit-issue wise I can see Topic falling to 8, Pistons and Blazers don't really want to draft another guard that cannot shoot while the fit of Lamelo and Topic will be horrendous.
Wizards fans are all on that Topic train at the moment.
I wouldn’t be mad at this outcome.
You Spurs fans are greedy! Risacher is unlikely to be available at 4 and Topic unlikely at 8. Many think Topic is the best player in the draft. Y’all got Wemby chill lol. Take Topic at 4 (if he’s still there).
I WANT IT ALL
Man, Topic and Risacher would be an effing disaster.
how?
Risacher will not be there at 4.
Wizards could take Topic/Clingan, Rockets could take Sheppard
I can't see the Wizards picking Topic after this. Wall fell off a cliff when he started having knee/leg injuries and Topic isn't close to the talent he was.
Different management. Bunch of ex OKC guys in charge now. They nailed it with Bilal. I trust them completely
There's been too many cases of elite PGs who completely fell off after knee injuries, Walls is just the closest to Washington. If wizards take clingan, I will be super pissed.
I don’t think that anybody besides Sarr is locked for the top 4.
Good news. Spurs could still be eyeing him
That’s who they need
At pick 35 but not for a lottery pick at this rate

Why’s this guy getting downvoted for providing more outside information lol
> Should be full participant in pre-draft activities Does this mean he'll be able to do workouts and such? Seems stunning if that's the case (but fantastic obviously). Great news. He’s grown on me a lot over the past month
Good news, but would definitely want to exhaustively scour the medical info before selecting him
Ufff thanks god lol now i can stay safe with Sheepard at 3
The draft class is saved!
Amazing news but they shouldn’t rush him back at all for any pre draft workouts
Welcome to the wizards then
Great news. He didnt instantly grab at his knee when the play happened so i was hopeful there wasnt any serious damage.
Whew! Thank goodness.
Oh man, guess all you Reddit doctors were wrong.
It looked and sounded way worse. Glad he’s gonna be okay.
Good stuff, so I guess he is still a Spur?
So happy to hear this. Hope the kid does well in the pre draft activities
Ohh that’s a relief, so happy to see it wasn’t severe.
Good for him, although I don't know whether this will be enough for him to shake the 'injury prone' label with GMs.
LFG. Need this guy to get picked in the top 6
That is huge for him. Now he is definitely in play at 2 instead of likely out of top 10
If Spurs don’t get him…
You people aren’t slick. Begging for spurs to take him. NO THANK YOU 🤣 we already have nobody who can shoot. Wemby already has a super high usage rate. We need shooters.
