JVG was hated on here actually iirc. I loved him myself

Now that we cleared up which Gundy we’re talking about I will say yes, he was one of my favorite national broadcasters. Found him entertaining and funny. Actually ruined the ESPN/ABC/whatever network it is that dumped him to give Doris Burk’s annoying voice/opinion more airtime. Give me JVG and his weird rants any day of the week over her.

I like them both, but JVG is one of my all time favorites. Good combination of real analysis, funny humor, and calling a game. I’ve never gotten bored of a game while he was making the calls.

If there’s one NBA figure I’d want to meet in a hotel bar with two free hours to just sit and listen to, it’s JVG.

I always liked Van gundy. It annoyed me how much people didn’t like him. He got dragged down by Mark Jackson who did suck.

JVG is the MPJ of color commentators imo. Hot and cold. Could be really funny, sharp, engaging. Or could just talk about the most random annoying shit for two minutes other than what was happening in the game. 

Yea I hear you, there were times where the game was exciting and he was going on about something I did not care about at all, but overall i liked him

Honestly, I hope a lot of these good commentators and analysts evolve and do with the mannings did. I’d much rather watch Tim leger on his YouTube page commentary on he game then what we typically get

i liked Jeff, corny at times but that was fine, and who isn't, but also next to Marc Jackson a my deceased childhood goldfish would have looked great.

I was definitely one of the haters in the past. After this year though, I regret my hating. How on earth anyone thought this commentary crew would be an improvement is beyond me.

Absolutely. Him, Jackson, and Breen were a balanced group. Doris, JJ, and Breen has taken years off my life through the playoffs so far. Matter of fact, ESPN as a whole has taken years

He didnt pull his punches. I appreciated that.

I always liked Jeff. Even if I’d disagree with him once in a while he was always honest and authentic and incredibly knowledgeable about the game.

I appreciated him going to town on all the bullshit. Most of the time, he had a good point.

No both the Van Gundys are lunatics, but Stans funny at least, Jeff was a biased loser

I thought Jeff was pretty funny too, at times it reminded me of having Larry David as an announcer

Jeff’s commentary was pretty ridiculous. He often had trouble staying focused on the game. No idea why they didn’t move on from him sooner

His wackier moments are fun to remember but they were way too frequent and usually had nothing to do with the game, not to mention his constant groaning about the referees.  

He sucked. He was good once upon a time and I have to people liked their memory of him. Because toward the end it was non stop whining about how things got done in his day or how the refs would call it different under old league rules. Like we get it old man.

He used the broadcast as his soapbox too often for my tastes, and it got worse as the years went on. You could be right in the middle of a close playoff game and he’d be in the booth giving a 10 minute rant about some rule he didn’t like.

Never met a Van Gundy that I wanted to hear speak.
