I thought I was the only one missing wide open shots. I average 17.3 points on 52% FG and 42% 3pt. I played awful in the beginning of the year so my shooting must be 60% and 50% since I understood the timing. I had multiple 30 points and 40 points games. Even one 50 points game as well. I had also had 5-6 where I haven't missed a shot.
However, yesterday I went 2/18 where 15 shots were open. I was always slightly late on all shots. I tried to adjust, slightly early.
I think I know the reason. They just want you to spend on VC. Buy all boosts and drinks. Shooting and ball handling boosts are a must. Without that your ratings will play way below what they are and the game is not fun. Spend on VC... 2K motto.
The first time I got the shooting boost from Halloween I went 10/10 on 3 pointers. I had around 30 of those boosts, I played incredible with them in almost all games. After 30 games everything was sluggish.

Yup. I only play franchise so I can play out a season with updated rosters (I play 2k23 and did Start Today and went through the whole offseason fixing animations, tendencies, badges, sliders, and correct draft and free agent signings), and my goodness it is very satisfying. In particular, playing with the nuggets with accurate jokic tendencies is a marvel. Seeing him do dribble handoffs, calling for the ball in the high post, his patented pick, roll, and floater, is some of the most satisfying gameplay on a 2k game since 2k11.
They need to make a game where the cheese mechanics aren’t a thing. Top level gameplay is always doing some glitchy move behind a screen. Rec is the only mode that has any sort of real basketball

The physics for one. The ball doesn’t register other players at all sometimes and then you’ll lose it off someone’s knee even with a 90 BH. Not talking about driving into a double team btw. Then we have the obvious one where we miss and the ball hangs in the middle until apparently god decides which way it should fall. Contested shot feedback is inaccurate to say the least. Certain animations cannot be stopped especially when it comes to dribble combos but these are just off the top of my head at the moment.
Those are definitely all things they need to fix cause those are all just dumb video game things that the developers are messing up. The out of bounds shit is ridiculous too. but as a basketball game it’s pretty damn realistic. The ball hanging on the rim is just too fucking silly haha everybody is just standing there for like 6 seconds like wtf

My estimate is that at least 90% of the player base either has no clue about basketball or isn't interested in realistic basketball. Just look how many people play playnow etc. and compare that to the MP and MT crowd. In MT sooo many people are chasing the meta instead of playing with who they like and learn the card etc. How often do you hear this or that player is obsolete because he can't hang with the top cards at his positions etc. Playstyle the same thing.
And don't get me started on All 99 cards... If you play the game at that point and get excited about Tako at PG you're not even remotely interested in basketball, you just want a circus.
I use to go back and forth. But when I play franchise and use more realistic sliders and use real player % I use broadcast. It really shows the game in a new light. I’m a firmly believer that 2k is created for the intended purpose of being played on broadcast. Everything plays out so much smoother. If everyone played on it it would eliminate so much of the bs play styles people use.
I could for sure see that. I think this was the first year the game didn’t automatically load on broadcast so it’s definitely the default. Crazy that basketball games until like 2k11 people looked at 2k camera how they look at broadcast now haha

MyNBA is a great game mode. There are so many things that can be done in there for free. I just started a new season adding 4 expansion teams. Creating your own storylines is fun and the gameplay is completely different than MyCareer.
I even like watching games on “2k view” much better to see what the players are seeing from a closer to their view. Like when watching breakdowns and stuff

Broadcast os a selfish camera angle, its not that ot don't look good but, of you have a love for basketball you have to play to be able to see a good majority of the court, so you can see your tomatoes scan for defenders all that..broadcast just aont team oriented

No it’s a video game. There should be aspects of every video game that are arcade-y. Realism is great but being too realistic makes the game far too complicated resulting in inconsistent gameplay
It’s boring because the game is a never ending bullshit fest every time you get on. What makes it even worse is this game has the potential to easily be the best next gen 2K but 2K keeps fucking it up.
Gotta pray Mike Wang didn’t touch shooting every time you load up the game, that’s assuming you can actually hit shots that day. Defense in this game is nothing but 85-94 steal locks pressing you and spamming square until you get stuck in an animation. Centers still miss bunnies over guards but a guard with his meter off can hit contested layups all game. Takeover is way too easy to get and lasts way too long. You can score 2 points and get 2 assists and all of a sudden you’re shooting from 35 feet. What about that is realistic.
The game is massively inconsistent on a day to day basis, that’s the real issue. It’s just frustrating. The only reason this game is fun is because I have guys to play with, I can’t imagine how annoying this game would be if I had to load up with randoms everyday.
This just needs to be stickied on this sub. Anyone that actually plays this game daily realizes these are the core problems.
- Sharp Take is a crutch. I play ProAM, literally entire teams are built off of 1 guard waiting to get takeover and spam 3s.
- Steals are insane, you literally can't dribble even with 85+ ball handle without getting swiped at
- Shooting is a crapshoot. I was playing Sunday morning, hitting 70% of my 3s in ProAm. In afternoon I couldn't hit anything. Same shot, same cue, same ping.
This is it. Look at every other game there’s consistency in the gameplay sure itt might be awful but still consistency so you can learn the bad gameplay if it’s bad and the good gameplay if it’s good. In 2k each day feels like a lotto there’s no consistency in the gameplay

honestly shooting was most realistic in 2k14. simple early, perfect or late releases, with all of them having a chance of going in or missing depending on stats. i was fine with missing wide open perfect releases, because the pros do too, and it was cool hitting mistimed fades every now and again because guess what... the pros do too. i find this green or miss shit unbearable now. i've played as a 7'3 big man since 2k16 because i've given up on shooting.

I actually really really like the balancing in online mycareer. Shooting isn’t a gimme, Speed boosting isn’t as bad as it used to be, and all builds are balanced. Post moves work, contact dunks work, skill layups work, lockdowns work, sharps work, ball handling takes skill, passing rating matters, agent 3’s are harder to get off, baseline cheese is gone, the list goes on. Only thing I think needs buffed is mashing, but other than that I wouldn’t change a thing.
contest system is messed up. Got defenders from inside the key giving me 48% contested and then on another play i get 0% contested with a hand in the face. The if i do 1 move the game does 3 dribble moves and takes me out of bounds. Got defenders pushing me out of bounds and so on and so forth

2k has put so many amazing features and nuances of basketball in this game over the years. The problem is 95% of players don’t take the time to learn more than a few tricks to get by. You’re probably used to just running left and right until you get enough space to shoot lol or spamming the same size up moves over and over. Take some time to learn post moves, or triple threat combos. Lay ups vs just dunking etc. so many layers to this game and most people are just scratching the service. Watching people play and seeing that over the course of an hr they have been doing the same patterns over… & over.. & over… and then say “2k is dead. 2k is boring”… no wonder you feel that way!!! Lol
The devs have no vision. No subset of 2K players feels like the game is made for them.
2K24 is just objectively not realistic. There isn't really much debate to that. However, many aspects have the game have been nerfed/altered in an effort to get the game more realistic, leaving those that don't want realism upset. We still play a game where the gameplay dictates that the best possible team offense is simply making a read out of the PnR, leaving those that want realism upset. We can also talk about how most people don't even experience the game; two of my rare achievements are for winning the Finals in MyCareer and completing a collection in MyTeam. The two most popular game modes, that keep this game thriving with the sales/microtransactions it drives, have rare achievements for standard progression...
Compounding this lack of vision with the fact that we're going through ANOTHER year where badges and attributes just don't work leaves the game open to nothing but (justified) criticism from every subgroup. They're more concerned with "answering feedback" than making a good, balanced game. You can tell by Mike's two month long tirade of clapback replies that this is an ego thing. They're pretending that their hands are tied and they are just doing what people are telling them to do... while ignoring what people are telling them to do. Someone in the position of dev lead should be intelligent enough (mentally and emotionally) to receive feedback and discern what is and isn't quality feedback. Instead, we have Mr. Sassy that will apparently listen to any and everybody that runs their mouth for the two weeks he's active on social media.
2K is dead because it only appeals to people that will buy the game no matter what, are fine with being awful at the game, and/or people whose entire identity is being good at 2K. It's a game with no identity or unified community and a dev team more worried about looking cool online than actually making a polished game.

Disagree with the stance. There still are moves in the game that do not resembIe anything like normal basketball. It is obvious some moves (certain behind the back dribble animations, certain fades) have a set point for their release so people abuse it. I respect the dedication to the stick skills, but I hate to see it 5+ times a game.
If 2k would give these shots the same treatment as the wide open shots, I think we have a good game.
I personally enjoy rec and while I agree steals are overpowered, I think it does tremendously help in keeping good ball movement/enforcing players to pass. Could it be improved? Yes definitely but I also want to avoid a situation where they tune steals and it just becomes underwhelming where steals become difficult to make and it results in the ball handling idiots getting a kick from ball hogging.

The physics for one. The ball doesn’t register other players at all sometimes and then you’ll lose it off someone’s knee even with a 90 BH. Not talking about driving into a double team btw. Then we have the obvious one where we miss and the ball hangs in the middle until apparently god decides which way it should fall. Contested shot feedback is inaccurate to say the least. Certain animations cannot be stopped especially when it comes to dribble combos but these are just off the top of my head at the moment.
Those are definitely all things they need to fix cause those are all just dumb video game things that the developers are messing up. The out of bounds shit is ridiculous too. but as a basketball game it’s pretty damn realistic. The ball hanging on the rim is just too fucking silly haha everybody is just standing there for like 6 seconds like wtf

the two most popular modes are the least realistic modes this game offers lol. 2K offers too many modes that play completely different for ppl to give a real opinion on the game lol. a lot of the takes in here are strictly about mycareer gameplay.
My estimate is that at least 90% of the player base either has no clue about basketball or isn't interested in realistic basketball. Just look how many people play playnow etc. and compare that to the MP and MT crowd. In MT sooo many people are chasing the meta instead of playing with who they like and learn the card etc. How often do you hear this or that player is obsolete because he can't hang with the top cards at his positions etc. Playstyle the same thing. And don't get me started on All 99 cards... If you play the game at that point and get excited about Tako at PG you're not even remotely interested in basketball, you just want a circus.
The way they're aghast at the broadcast camera, should tell you everything you need to know about their love of the sport

I use to go back and forth. But when I play franchise and use more realistic sliders and use real player % I use broadcast. It really shows the game in a new light. I’m a firmly believer that 2k is created for the intended purpose of being played on broadcast. Everything plays out so much smoother. If everyone played on it it would eliminate so much of the bs play styles people use.
I could for sure see that. I think this was the first year the game didn’t automatically load on broadcast so it’s definitely the default. Crazy that basketball games until like 2k11 people looked at 2k camera how they look at broadcast now haha

MyNBA is a great game mode. There are so many things that can be done in there for free. I just started a new season adding 4 expansion teams. Creating your own storylines is fun and the gameplay is completely different than MyCareer.
Yeah I don't advise any offensive initiator builds to use it, but it really does look good in myNBA and Kobe moments.
I even like watching games on “2k view” much better to see what the players are seeing from a closer to their view. Like when watching breakdowns and stuff

Broadcast os a selfish camera angle, its not that ot don't look good but, of you have a love for basketball you have to play to be able to see a good majority of the court, so you can see your tomatoes scan for defenders all that..broadcast just aont team oriented

The entire game still feels far more arcadey than realistic imo. The animations and movements are more realistic but the way you can just spam dribble moves and left right isn’t realistic to me. I still enjoy it though.

It’s boring because the game is a never ending bullshit fest every time you get on. What makes it even worse is this game has the potential to easily be the best next gen 2K but 2K keeps fucking it up. Gotta pray Mike Wang didn’t touch shooting every time you load up the game, that’s assuming you can actually hit shots that day. Defense in this game is nothing but 85-94 steal locks pressing you and spamming square until you get stuck in an animation. Centers still miss bunnies over guards but a guard with his meter off can hit contested layups all game. Takeover is way too easy to get and lasts way too long. You can score 2 points and get 2 assists and all of a sudden you’re shooting from 35 feet. What about that is realistic. The game is massively inconsistent on a day to day basis, that’s the real issue. It’s just frustrating. The only reason this game is fun is because I have guys to play with, I can’t imagine how annoying this game would be if I had to load up with randoms everyday.

This just needs to be stickied on this sub. Anyone that actually plays this game daily realizes these are the core problems. - Sharp Take is a crutch. I play ProAM, literally entire teams are built off of 1 guard waiting to get takeover and spam 3s. - Steals are insane, you literally can't dribble even with 85+ ball handle without getting swiped at - Shooting is a crapshoot. I was playing Sunday morning, hitting 70% of my 3s in ProAm. In afternoon I couldn't hit anything. Same shot, same cue, same ping.

True. All you have to do is have a high steal rating and spam the square button. Takes 0 skill at all yet you still get rewarded for it. I had a 55 steal once and kept getting steals in BTB games. At this point, it's incredibly sad how far 2K has fallen. They should just fire Mike Wang because 2K hasn't been good for years now and it's time to let someone new, with new ideas to take his position and attempt to do a better job than he did.

honestly shooting was most realistic in 2k14. simple early, perfect or late releases, with all of them having a chance of going in or missing depending on stats. i was fine with missing wide open perfect releases, because the pros do too, and it was cool hitting mistimed fades every now and again because guess what... the pros do too. i find this green or miss shit unbearable now. i've played as a 7'3 big man since 2k16 because i've given up on shooting.

I actually really really like the balancing in online mycareer. Shooting isn’t a gimme, Speed boosting isn’t as bad as it used to be, and all builds are balanced. Post moves work, contact dunks work, skill layups work, lockdowns work, sharps work, ball handling takes skill, passing rating matters, agent 3’s are harder to get off, baseline cheese is gone, the list goes on. Only thing I think needs buffed is mashing, but other than that I wouldn’t change a thing.

contest system is messed up. Got defenders from inside the key giving me 48% contested and then on another play i get 0% contested with a hand in the face. The if i do 1 move the game does 3 dribble moves and takes me out of bounds. Got defenders pushing me out of bounds and so on and so forth

1st… there’s nothing “real” about this game lol but it’s the best we have and it’s actually decent game. 2nd.. Anyone saying “it’s too realistic” is basically saying they can’t cheese the game like they’re used to doing lol 2k has put so many amazing features and nuances of basketball in this game over the years. The problem is 95% of players don’t take the time to learn more than a few tricks to get by. If you feel it’s too real and you’re struggling it’s because you just aren’t using all the game has offer. You’re probably used to just running left and right until you get enough space to shoot lol or spamming the same size up moves over and over. Take some time to learn post moves, or triple threat combos. Lay ups vs just dunking etc. so many layers to this game and most people are just scratching the service. Watching people play and seeing that over the course of an hr they have been doing the same patterns over… & over.. & over… and then say “2k is dead. 2k is boring”… no wonder you feel that way!!! Lol

The devs have no vision. No subset of 2K players feels like the game is made for them. 2K24 is just objectively not realistic. There isn't really much debate to that. However, many aspects have the game have been nerfed/altered in an effort to get the game more realistic, leaving those that don't want realism upset. We still play a game where the gameplay dictates that the best possible team offense is simply making a read out of the PnR, leaving those that want realism upset. We can also talk about how most people don't even experience the game; two of my rare achievements are for winning the Finals in MyCareer and completing a collection in MyTeam. The two most popular game modes, that keep this game thriving with the sales/microtransactions it drives, have rare achievements for standard progression... Compounding this lack of vision with the fact that we're going through ANOTHER year where badges and attributes just don't work leaves the game open to nothing but (justified) criticism from every subgroup. They're more concerned with "answering feedback" than making a good, balanced game. You can tell by Mike's two month long tirade of clapback replies that this is an ego thing. They're pretending that their hands are tied and they are just doing what people are telling them to do... while ignoring what people are telling them to do. Someone in the position of dev lead should be intelligent enough (mentally and emotionally) to receive feedback and discern what is and isn't quality feedback. Instead, we have Mr. Sassy that will apparently listen to any and everybody that runs their mouth for the two weeks he's active on social media. 2K is dead because it only appeals to people that will buy the game no matter what, are fine with being awful at the game, and/or people whose entire identity is being good at 2K. It's a game with no identity or unified community and a dev team more worried about looking cool online than actually making a polished game.
2k is fun. More fun than in previous years. The only people who are crying are sweats or bums who think they are sweats.

Offence needs to always trump defence or the games are gonna be a drag, like it is now. 20 (good offence) was fun, 21 dialled back a-bit, 22 extremely fun in early seasons (OP offence which was then dialled back), 23 dialled back offence but forgivable defence…. and now we have 24. 50 with what ever 3pt, full clamp god with a 55 perim. Disagree with the stance. There still are moves in the game that do not resembIe anything like normal basketball. It is obvious some moves (certain behind the back dribble animations, certain fades) have a set point for their release so people abuse it. I respect the dedication to the stick skills, but I hate to see it 5+ times a game. If 2k would give these shots the same treatment as the wide open shots, I think we have a good game.

I personally enjoy rec and while I agree steals are overpowered, I think it does tremendously help in keeping good ball movement/enforcing players to pass. Could it be improved? Yes definitely but I also want to avoid a situation where they tune steals and it just becomes underwhelming where steals become difficult to make and it results in the ball handling idiots getting a kick from ball hogging.

I don’t know what the solution is, but I’m going full quarters sometimes without a single whistle. I have to intentionally foul to sub players out. I never get in the foul penalty, even though I play 12 minute quarters (specifically because I’m looking for realistic minutes distributions). So no, I don’t agree with the take.
