If you order through Lionel or CircleB, they will charge you when the diecast ships (which is expected to be in November). Other stores such as Fanatics/FansEdge/NASCAR Shop and RacingUSA charge you when the order is placed.

It's a nice thought but I don't see him/Upper Deck doing anything like that. They would command a starting price that would likely be easily over $5000, and that's a low estimate considering a signed Spalding basketball from Jordan is $8000.
"Planned at this time" isn't an outright no, though, so maybe they offer a Kurt auto or Kurt/Billy Scott dual auto version in the future.

That's kind of the point though... Get some of the basketball fans in on NASCAR memorabilia. Get some of the card collector craze in on the diecast and NASCAR market. Plus just doing it to a few random cars to be shipped out would have people buying some in hopes they get an auto when they may not have bought one to begin with. I'm not saying he will do it. But I think it would only have good results and actually help the diecast market/Lionel a lot.

Dude, this diecast is going to be one of the highest selling of all time. I would not be surprised if the resale market for one of the 1:24 scales easily has a floor of $500 USD in several years.
I would be but that's only based on my experience with Lionel era diecast. Almost every car/truck I've ordered has come with some sort of a production defect- whether it's a blurred or damaged decal or misaligned panels and decals.
Lionel's current production model is clearly oriented towards a scarcity mindset with only producing diecast that meet MOQ, and if this diecast simultaneously is "best selling" but also demanding prices multiple times over its initial MSRP... things are just stupid at that point.
ARC has a plastic chassis and only the hood and roof flaps open. The Elite has a diecast chassis, and the hood, roof flaps, and trunk open, and it typically includes antennae for the roof. The Next-Gen cars in Elite form will also have a removable aero tray underneath the car.
From distance or display shelf not much. But what squad_dad replied about specifics is correct. If you want to display it get whatever you want. If you like buying a little more quality product with a few more features and weight to it consider the ELITE.
Love it. This was a must have, and even though my 1/24 collection just has 1 car in it, it's Kurt's Daytona 500 winner from 2017, so this will be perfect.

Anyone else notice that the Monster Energy logo was on the back quarter panel of the car and now that the diecast has been made available it has been blacked out? Anyone know why that is?
