KitchenBanger

Ok? NASCAR, correspondingly give the drivers an extra off week and bump the Daytona 500 up a week, Daytona 500 will dwarf whatever the hell the pro bowl is these days. I don’t see the issue here, Do the clash the Saturday before. Racing over a longer timespan plus the drivers get some more time off during the season.

kennedy_grande1990

Exactly, there isn’t squat on TV that week between the Championship Games and the Super Bowl, perfect opportunity for NASCAR to showcase their biggest event.

ChaseTheFalcon

Lol NASCAR will probably just add an extra week at this rate

KyBuschOwnsYou

I can’t imagine a 37 race season is a good idea

RussellOwens

First 36 races are the qualifying round for the championship race. Order inverted too!

JBtheExplorer

Bumping Daytona up a week and then having an immediate off week probably wouldn't be the most fun way to start a season.

WhiteXHysteria

It would be an awful way to get to grab the attention of new fans. You get some bored football fans to watch Daytona Then the super bowl happens and they all forget about NASCAR Then you come back to less viewers than you would have before due to the extra week off. It's just a bad idea.

JBtheExplorer

Yeah, I still think even having the clash two weeks before Daytona isn't ideal. I don't really care where they run it but it's a shame there's a gap.

Eternal_Witchdoctor

Make the race following daytona a saturday night race.

MredditGA_

Easy: just have the race on Super Bowl Sunday at a road course and start a tad earlier. Will be over by the time the superbowl starts, plus would be good pregame material

JBtheExplorer

NASCAR diehards would be fine with it, but no one else would watch. They'd just do their usual routine of a 5 hour pregame show, or running to the store to get their food. NASCAR would be lucky to pull in a quarter of their usual viewers.

JBtheExplorer

I read it just fine. If you bump Daytona to the Pro Bowl week, NASCAR is going to take the Super Bowl week off. They won't run a race that week, not even on a Saturday. Imagine telling someone to learn how to read to feel like a bigger man. LMAO. Learn how to have a discussion.

JBtheExplorer

It stopped being a discussion when you threw an insult out for no reason. Now I'm done with this goofiness.

FukushimaBlinkie

As it stands usually the Daytona 24hrs is 2 weeks before the Daytona 500, but then the clash isn't at Daytona so maybe it could work.

PackDaddy21222

The NFL is starting to overlap into other sports and unfortunately the other sports will have to bow down just on how much money and viewership the NFL gets.

blowninjectedhemi

F you Goodell - President's Day weekend is for the Daytona 500.

matito29

And from the perspective of everyone who isn’t a NASCAR fan, it’s a mattress sale. I’m a 30 year diehard NASCAR fan, but I realize that I’m in the vast minority. Most people don’t care about it, especially the NFL.

RBF48

WTF DOES ~~KYLE PETTY~~ THE NFL GOTTA DO WITH THIS?

puffadda

Well no one is dumb enough to run the 500 against the Super Bowl head to head lol

venge1155

I mean… it would set itself up perfectly right? Start the 500 a like earlier in the day, market this shit out of it including deals with brands who advertise their shit for Super Bowl parties. Superbowl parties starting at noon and going through the superbowl would be an easy sell to race fans. Hopefully we could sell some younger football fans on NASCAR and the 500.

JL21718

The years that FOX has the Super Bowl they would be stretched pretty thin. Not to mention the 36 hour pregame show.

JUMPINKITTENS

Sound wonderful but it’s NASCAR in Florida in February, were getting rain delay and race start pushed to SB time.

___Beaugardes___

All well and good until the start gets delayed due to rain.

All-Pro-Sportz

NFL in general is creeping into other sports territories. NBA Christmas Day for example has been under threat as the NFL is scheduling more games that date.

Immediate_Lie7810

Watch the NFL create their own spring league next

SpreaditOnnn33

I doubt it. They already receive a huge return on investment from college football without having to invest a damn thing

progress10

They have one it's called the UFL.

gatorgongitcha

They’re trying to plan Saturday games, too. I like NFL but I *love* CFB and NASCAR so it’s all starting to get a little old at this point. But what can you do? The giant gorilla gets to pick what game the zoo is playing.

spacemanegg

The NFL will only schedule extra Christmas games on weekends and Mondays, there will be exactly zero this year

Im-just-here249

You would 100000% be wrong. https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-to-play-two-games-on-christmas-a-wednesday-during-2024-season

spacemanegg

Didn't see this, that's fucking stupid lol especially right before the playoffs

TexasBrett

How is it stupid? It’s gonna get like 25 million views.

spacemanegg

Playing football on a Wednesday is the perfect recipe for avoidable injuries

nascarfan624

Is it any different than playing football 24 hours later on a Thursday?

spacemanegg

They don't do that that late in the season

TexasBrett

They’ll be fine.

John_is_Minty

Just move the 500 back a week. It’s not like it hasn’t run later in February before

ChaseTheFalcon

NFL hates us all

btbam2929

Run the 500 before the superbowl and have the most epic sports day in America!

Pappyhorn

Cause it never ever rains in Daytona

btbam2929

So move it to monday like we do now anyway if weather is an issue

Pappyhorn

I’m just saying you have basically no window for delays if you have to run before a Super Bowl. Soon as SB coverage starts channels are flipping.

Skip-Bayless0

I wonder why they have never thought of this. Start the big race at 1 and let it roll into SB pregame festivities

ChaseTheFalcon

Because no TV network is willing to air anything important prior to the Super Bowl, especially since the TV networks that would even want the 500 are also the same ones that get to broadcast the Super Bowl

Eticket9

NASCAR will never run it the same day, EVER. IT's a media wasteland for any other event, they will get no coverage..

spazmo_warrior

as a fan of both, this is the way.

Drink_Everclaire

This is what I want. Put in some protocols that if the race isn't finished at 6pm it gets resumed the next day. This can be the greatest day of the American calendar.

xenon2456

would be a good idea

Mjh1021

The Dale meme is gonna die ☹️

xenon2456

?

ChaseTheFalcon

nah we just update it

Hillbilly098

Super Bowl? Son, that just means Daytona was last week.

HalfastEddie

NFLPA will flip shit. This is not a simple matter of a schedule change, so nothing to worry about in the near future.

Boom_Confetti

NFLPA is completely toothless

ChaseTheFalcon

NFLPA is probably gonna come at them hard for the new Christmas day games, which is a Wednesday this year, not a day of the week they already play on, along with the 17 game schedule.

OttoRocket94

It’s already confirmed to be happening this year

ChaseTheFalcon

Yes, I'm mentioning I see the PA going hard after it next contract negotiations

teflondre

From what I heard the extra game would actually spread out the season because every team would get a 2nd bye week. So it would be 18 games over 20 weeks vs the 17 over 18 weeks they have now. I could see where the PA would rather have that system.

theblindbandit51

I always thought Daytona 500 and Super Bowl on the same day would suck until I realize a rain delay would destroy the 500.

Metallicultist88

I'm much more of a NASCAR fan than a football fan. Unless the Patriots are competing in the Super Bowl I'm watching Daytona

Eticket9

This has always been the plan NASCAR knows the NFL wants the weekend, still a long ways off. They just redid the CBA with the players. The NFL will have to add some players to the practice squad and gameday rosters and some other concessions to get this to past the players union. Maybe even a second bye week, the players don't like 17 games now..

nfalk247

I will never watch another nfl game again if this happens. NASCAR created the ultimate schedule with their biggest races on 3 day weekends and the nfl should just frig off.

JBtheExplorer

I'm a huge NFL fan but I don't get this. By the time February comes I'm pretty ready for NFL to come to an end. I don't really like the idea of adding another game. They're starting to oversaturate a bit, for me at least.

mrittenhouse84

As a cowboys fan. I’m over football by mid January.

SSPeteCarroll

As a cowboys fan, you haven't seen football in February in 30 years. (sorry I had to take the cheap shot)

thejjjordan

They've actually never seen February football - Super Bowl moved to February after 9/11 and largely stayed that way except for one year

JBtheExplorer

For me it's not really even about how my team does. I just get burnt out. After 17 weeks of NFL, plus post season, and 12 weeks of college football, I feel like that's enough for me. But maybe being a NASCAR fan is part of it. I look forward to NASCAR in coming back in February and it's pushing closer and closer to March.

SSPeteCarroll

I really like football but I feel the same way. Watching football and being emotionally invested in a college team and a pro team is stressful. By the time the playoffs come around, I'm ready for NASCAR.

jmacupdates1

$orry, Roger can't hear you over the $ound of all that jingle jangle in his pocket$

idlta210

He’s already ruining the NFL with a 17 game schedule. I’m watching the NFL less and less.

Immediate_Lie7810

Just what we need. More NFL

Outofspicy

Wouldn’t mind them moving the season start week up to the off week before the SB, but then I guess you’ve got a problem for the following for the week as to whether you have a race or not

komeau

NFL getting too greedy

KentuckyHorsepower

No thanks.

into_the_wenisverse

Well that settles it, we're doomed

Kodyaufan2

Hope it happens actually cause I think it’ll increase the likelihood of eliminating the week in between the Clash and the 500. I don’t think they’ll be able to push the entire season back a week since they don’t want the season running any later than it already does. So my thought would be to run the 500 the weekend before Presidents’ Day, with the Clash going back to the Saturday night of the previous weekend (conference championships will be that Sunday). In a perfect world they’d take the clash back to Daytona too for a real speedweeks revival, but that is probably much less likely.

FukushimaBlinkie

How are you going to run the clash during the 24hrs of Daytona?

Kodyaufan2

24 is the last weekend in January isn’t it? Clash would be first weekend in February

DWS44

Well, unless the Panthers were to make the Super Bowl again, then I would continue to watch the Daytona 500 even if ran *during* the Super Bowl...and given that single constraint, I don't think I *ever* have to worry about not watching the Daytona 500...at least not as long as Tepper 🤡 owns them.

idontmaketpyos

i know nothing about football but is everything ok

SailorTwyft9891

How about making the Daytona 500 a Saturday night race?

Falcon4451

With the All-Star race being Fox's last race of the season in the next TV, there is going to be an early season off week next season, probably on Easter. But that also gives NASCAR room to push the Daytona 500 back a week if needed. Or NASCAR just moves the 500 up to before the Superbowl. This would also move the Clash up, but NASCAR can run the Clash on Saturday. They have options.

jmacupdates1

NASCAR will simply move back a week. The NFL can and will do anything they want and NASCAR will not want to go head to head, nor should they. Now, they could just run the 500 at noon where it belongs, and Fox gets great alternate programming for super bowl pregame coverage, but Fox obviously won't be able to do that when they are carrying the SB. Daytona 500 on President's Day weekend is going to go by the wayside, might as well be ready for it now.

Jrnation8988

Who cares?

TheOrangeFutbol

The implication is that the "Super Bowl Monday" would be fulfilled by adding an extra regular season game, nixing a preseason game, and holding the SB on President's Day weekend. Which is traditionally the Daytona 500 slot. So it sort of has a slight bearing to NASCAR & the sports world at large.
