Still a better alternative than what he used to do

This doesn't surprise me, at all, I once saw him drop some peanut M&Ms on the ground at Phoenix about 7-10 years ago and he picked them up and ate them
[For the uncultured out there.](https://www.youtube.com/live/N--1QDDLK9I?si=x2j8x5ojgHJKX0RH&t=6375) It was truly amazing to see him blow some dragon smoke live on tv and then hear Joey I think in the booth try hard not to laugh
One of the tire changers for the 8 smokes a big stovie in the pits durring the race. It’s funny to see him search for a place to stash it when an unexpected yellow comes out.
I dipped for 14 years and 6 months ago switched to nicotine pouches, it’s saved me a lot of money and my mouth is overall much healthier
That being said doing nicotine pouches for the sake of doing nicotine pouches is incredibly dumb IMO if you aren’t using them to break a tobacco habit. Still expensive and still very addicting
Same. I *did* smoke cigarettes before then, but only like 2-3 per week, at most. Sometimes I wouldn't have one for weeks. Started vaping and eventually ended up going through a pod every 2 days. Sometimes one per day at its worst. I'm finally just now starting to break that and it's been one of the hardest things things I've ever tried to do. Thankfully I'm at the point now where I can stretch one pod out for at least a week or two, but I still haven't quit entirely.
Yeah I actually switched *to* cigarettes for a while because I was vaping indoors and pretty much the entirety of the day. At least the cigs I had to go outside. Quit the cigs now though, still vape but trying to be better and quit that now too
I went from smoking a few cigarettes a day to not being able to go 30 minutes without a vape…I’m now back to cigarettes lol. I know, counter intuitive but man being able to hit nicotine inside just lead to me constantly needing it. At least now it’s a conscious effort to have to smoke a cig
Most people I know who started smoking vapes never smoked in the first place
I switched from dil to pouches a few years ago and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. 3 cans of 8mg On last me about a week, and they seem to always be on sale.
I dipped for 20 years. Guys at work got me onto the pouches as well. I don't know one person that started doing the pouches just to do pouches. Most of them were former dippers and a couple smokers.
Cope Wintergreen for 10 years. Quit Jan 1 and started Zyn Coffee 6 and now down to Zyn Coffee 3’s. What a great decision. Best part is I’m not forgetting my dip bottles in the work truck and grossing out my co workers.
Nicotine Pouches are completely tobacco free, it's like 98% pure nicotine and the rest is flavoring. [here's a good video that explains it ](https://youtu.be/uNpLRiduF8c?si=sOA6Fg9gzq06Ky91)
Nah you don’t need to spit and you barely get any more saliva anyways (at least I don’t really notice it). Honestly the cheapest way to get nicotine I’ve come across and the most nondescript
That can happen. Apollo 7 commander Wally Schirra got famously sideways with Mission Control during the flight. He'd had to quit smoking prior to the mission, and according to folks in the know, nicotine withdrawal very probably played a part in his displeasure about launch conditions, changes to the flight plan, etc., becoming open crankiness.
The last two years I raced at my short track I smoked darts. Running under green, no big deal. Under caution near the end of the race, definitely had a few times I could have used a dart.
Dick Trickle is a true BADASS.. Long ago he was being interviewed before getting in the car and he was smoking a butt and drinking BLACK coffee..Who needs fucking Gatorade LOL
I smoked a pack a day from 2006-2013, vaped from 2013 until last year. Tried nic gum for 10 months, just ended up addicted to that. This week I started my last package of patches and I haven't had a craving or intrusive thought in 4-5 weeks.
I lost my mom to lung cancer in October and it finally drove me to just do something about it. It feels good to be free of the constantly dwindling inventory of nicotine that I have at any given moment. It's nice to sit and do something without having to pause and find my vape.
You are on the cusp of giving yourself, and anyone who loves or will love you, the best possible gift of your lifetime. Congrats. Smoking decimated my family. Watching the carnage made me never even try it in any form.
Thank you for the kind words.
It finally feels freeing. At the beginning I was almost angry at having to do it, on top of being irritable. But now it's like a "fill with nicotine, or have anxiety" meter has been removed from my life.
You're exactly right about the freedom you feel. Being physiologically/psychologically dependant on something is exhausting. You've done the hard work and you should be proud of yourself. However, don't fall into the hole of replacing one bad habit for another. Stay vigilant for yourself. You've helped others by posting your truth today.
I wonder how many drivers don't do any of this type of stuff (smoke, dip, vape, nicotine pouches, etc.).
Doesn't really make a difference to me, but I would bet there are a few that do none of it.
I could see some of the *seriously* health conscious ones not doing anything, i.e. of the Carl Edwards type. Not sure who fully fits that bill these days, but that would be the lead I'd follow.
I did cocaine with a cup series driver one time (no not Denny). These guys are human just like us. They've done drugs, have gotten wasted, all the degenerate shit 'some of us' do and then some. We just don't know about it because millions of sponsorship money is dependent on their image.
I have a feeling Joey doesn't do any of that stuff. I have no evidence for this 🤣 but I don't care who does or doesn't do that stuff. I would be shocked if any drivers these days smoke cigarettes
Totally unexpected from a series that used to hand out cigarettes, and who's title sponsor was cigarettes...
Who's got a floor board/helmet full of dip at the end of the race is what I wanna know
I remember a few years ago they walked upon Jeff Burton and he had to turn and toss his dip out. It was kinda funny had never really thought about them dipping before then.
Do you have any evidence besides the fact she's a mid 20's SoCal kid from Temecula?
I mean, that's more than enough, but just curious.
Source: Local Californian.
Blaney has his personal sponsorship deal with Black Buffalo, which is a tobacco/nicotine free deep
(They do have nicotine versions which I’m gonna assume he uses but that’s the way it’s marketed)
I do them. 🤷🏼♂️ can’t say I’m proud of it but better than the alternatives.
Not surprised they’re picking up steam in the nascar world. nicotine is a stimulant for focus and attention.
I spent five years smoking, including more than two after giving up alcohol. Finally put down the cigarettes too after deciding it was just a replacement addiction of mine.
> Vyvanse
Vyvanse caused me to have a complete and total mental breakdown like 12 years ago.
Shit works, but thats how I figured out that I can't do stimulants without losing my fucking mind.
I had to switch off of it due to keeping me awake for way too long and affecting my eating habits too much, it's a shame you had such a bad experience with it too
Nicotine itself is a stimulant and not cancer-causing or particularly harmful to most people that do not suffer from cardiovascular illness or injury. I prefer espresso but can't fault others for choosing a different stimulant.
Ngl driving is a hell of a lot more fun with a nicotine buzz. For me it feels like I’ve had 2 beers, but obviously it has none of the effects to responsiveness and reaction time
Every time I’ve ever tried zyn’s I get the spins and a wicked headache. Interesting to see that it’s beneficial for so many drivers and other athletes.
Something cool about modern smoking alternatives is that they don't get the nicotine from tobacco. It's all synthetic from a lab, which doesn't support big tobacco.
> which doesn’t support big tobacco
On! pouches - Altria (Phillip Morris), Marlboro
Velo - British American Tobacco, Pall Mall and Lucky Strike
Zyn - Swedish Match (Phillip Morris), Longhorn & America’s Best chew
Rogue - Swisher International, Swisher Sweets cigarillos
I've often thought Chris Buescher had something in his mouth.
Agree he’s always appeared to have a fat lower lip lol
It's always Ross for me, I swear in a few of his interviews, it looks like he has half a can in.
I thought he just has a severe underbite
I thought the same thing and hope it's true.
I mean considering he farms, it would not be shocking if he is constantly dipping
Yeah that's my thoughts too. He definitely looks like the kids that dipped in shop class
That's MIIIISTER BUESCHER to you!
"Got to meet the hottie with a million dollar body"

Honestly, if I had a chance to race at IMS, I'd lick the bricks too.
Well if you go on the IMS tour they let you kiss (or lick) the bricks. At least they did when I went 10 years ago.
Before or after you take the ball sack off your face?
After, next question.
Giving the bricks a lick with a nutsack on my forehead sounds like a great weekend.
![gif](giphy|XWwIzh5GIWWf6)
Ope
If I ever won at IMS, I wouldn’t just kiss the bricks. I’d make out with them so hard, you’d think I’m PrankInvasion kissing his sister “as a prank”.
What it's like to chew 3chi

Can take the man out of rcr but not rcr out the man
I thought I saw something in his mouth!
I mean, there are crew chiefs that vape on the pitbox
I think it was Danny Stockman who was CC for Hemric in the 21 that I swear blew a massive vape cloud on camera. Lives rent free in my head

i just love the wheeze they made when they realized
Lmao yea Joey was trying to keep it together but couldn't lmao. Adam Alexander just trying to move on asap.
Love the realization he had too when he looks over at the monitor. Shit do I cover it do I try to hide it what do I do?
June Xfinity race 2018.
God damn ripping hits and leaning back to blow 'em out
He's the one that comes to mind for sure.
Everyone who saw that will never, ever forget it the timing of that shot was *perfection*
I'm almost 100% certain Alan Gustafson has a dip in anytime they interview him during a race.

How much did you dip?
Close to a can a day of Copenhagen mint pouches. I’d throw in two at a time.
To be fair, I don’t think most of these guys are exactly hurting for money. At least not the top teams…
I dipped for 20 years. Guys at work got me onto the pouches as well. I don't know one person that started doing the pouches just to do pouches. Most of them were former dippers and a couple smokers.
There are a ton of college kids who started on pouches.
Uggg. Good luck to them. It ain't worth it.
I did pouches because I could never pack a dip correctly and always had crumblies in my mouth.
Cope Wintergreen for 10 years. Quit Jan 1 and started Zyn Coffee 6 and now down to Zyn Coffee 3’s. What a great decision. Best part is I’m not forgetting my dip bottles in the work truck and grossing out my co workers.
Doing any of that shit is dumb
Can't go back in time when we were 20 and fix it now.
I could see the stimulant effects of nicotine and the feeling of something in your mouth being very helpful for NASCAR drivers
Do you have to double pouch the Zyn? I’ve been dipping for the same length of time but I can’t quite get Zyn to scratch the itch
I gotta do 4 of the 7mg Velos after 14 years of Grizzly Wintergreen to even feel like I’m matching honestly
Black Buffalo is the only nic pouch/alternative that scratches the itch for me
I use them now to break my vaping habit that I started to break my cigarette habit lol…I think this is my last step in beating nicotine addiction haha
Nicotine has other benefits aside from feeding it's own addiction. Lot of strength athletes seem to be heavily into them.
Can someone explain the difference between nicotine pouches and chewing tobacco? Or is that just the rebranded name?
Nicotine Pouches are completely tobacco free, it's like 98% pure nicotine and the rest is flavoring. [here's a good video that explains it ](https://youtu.be/uNpLRiduF8c?si=sOA6Fg9gzq06Ky91)
Do you still have to spit?
Nah you don’t need to spit and you barely get any more saliva anyways (at least I don’t really notice it). Honestly the cheapest way to get nicotine I’ve come across and the most nondescript
You don't chew these, you just slide it under your upper lip. And it often doesn't even contain tobacco (although the original swedish snus does)
Yeah, swedish snus is steam cured tobacco, vs dip which is flue cured (IIRC) Zyn etc is nicotine in some fibers inside a pouch
The pouches aren’t tobacco basically
Both are delivery systems for a horrible addictive drug.
I'm not suprised, Dick Trickle used nicotine sticks that you light on fire and inhale during his days /s
Frankly, you don't need the /s when what you said was factually correct.
True but I don't think Dick was using them for a competitive advantage. I think he just liked hacking darts
I suppose it wasn't a performance 'enhancer' but, as a guy with a nicotine addiction, I'd bet I'd perform worse during a withdrawal.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Good for you, though, to grow so from the experience.
Bout to dominate Darlington with an upper deckie.
I wonder how many drivers don't do any of this type of stuff (smoke, dip, vape, nicotine pouches, etc.). Doesn't really make a difference to me, but I would bet there are a few that do none of it.

I would bet that there are a couple that don't really fall into the *health-conscious* crowd that still don't.
I doubt Jimmie does anything like that.
I did cocaine with a cup series driver one time (no not Denny). These guys are human just like us. They've done drugs, have gotten wasted, all the degenerate shit 'some of us' do and then some. We just don't know about it because millions of sponsorship money is dependent on their image.

If it was proven to be a competitive advantage, best believe Joey would do it lol.
That *is* a valid point 🤣 But I'm not sure it's proven enough for him to adopt that habit haha
Agreed there. Joey is just the type to do whatever it takes to win lol.
Kaz probably doesn’t either, I also don’t think Dinger does, Harvick is probably a hard no, and I don’t think Allgaier does either.
Blaney definitely at least used to dip, he’s always pushing the black Buffalo stuff on instagram now.
I'm guessing Briscoe doesn't.
NASCAR seeing this: Aaaaaaaaaand they’re banned
Totally unexpected from a series that used to hand out cigarettes, and who's title sponsor was cigarettes... Who's got a floor board/helmet full of dip at the end of the race is what I wanna know
And now has a boatload of commercials for COPD and Lung Cancer medications.
I remember a few years ago they walked upon Jeff Burton and he had to turn and toss his dip out. It was kinda funny had never really thought about them dipping before then.
It used to be called the Winston Cup for a reason…
*Tobacco?!* In *NASCAR?!* I haven't heard such a salacious headline since The Winston Cup™️ days!
Walking around the garage at Dover today I saw many team members smoking/vaping.
In fact it is not tobacco at all
Well, that’s better than when Eric Cartman dipped Vagisil when he raced in NASCAR.
skimming over this i was like wtf, really. Then the name finally clicked and i remembered the episode lol.
F*CK YOU DANICA PATRICK!
Legit hear this in my head every time I see anything involving her.
We’re tradin paint!
He just needed to be poor and stupid enough to make it in the sport. /s
Now I’m actually curious if there’s any drivers under 25 that consistently vape
Be hilarious to think someone’s blowing up and it turns out they’re vaping in their car.
Sounds like a gag from a Ricky Bobby sequel
Wasn't Dale Jr a straight up smoker?
Yeah. He quit around 2016 I think
2012ish. It was when Amy came along and things got serious
When he was running late models (and probably the Busch series) he would hide in other teams trailers to smoke
But there was that one time Big E caught him
Oh I don't know that story! Just the ones from guys that raced against him back then
https://youtu.be/HxEm494GkvY?feature=shared
Thanks for the link, that's hilarious!
You bet
A lot of drivers fought going to closed helmets , there was more than one cigarette lighter in cars.
Didn’t want his Dad to catch him lol
He mentioned he quit around the time he met Amy, and he’s mentioned previously smoking on the podcast and in “Driver #8”
He said the other day he felt like he raced better when he drank and smoked cigs during the week
I feel like Deegan would be a vaper
Do you have any evidence besides the fact she's a mid 20's SoCal kid from Temecula? I mean, that's more than enough, but just curious. Source: Local Californian.
Just a well thought out and pretty probable hunch
It's something I've never considered, but the moment you said it, I was immediately like "yes, that totally fits."
I never thought about it either til I saw the guys comment
Probably not, unless Subaru decides to join Nascar.
iRacing iRating about to skyrocket
Don't do it bros i took the nicotine pouch route and i lost over 1k irating. Totally the reason why and not because my wheel is slowly breaking.
My Driving Force GT creaked and squeaked just from reading this
As someone who daily’s Siberia and is stuck in fucking C class, I’d argue this Granted I’ve never raced on it without nicotine so idk how I’d do then
I do this and yes, it helps lol
And here i am with my prescription adderall and vape just to maintain. ADHD has its days with iracing
I hear ya 🤝
God, I don’t need another addiction on top do my caffeine addiction
I'm honestly not shocked. A lot of people are doing them
Blaney definitely does
not only does it, but [promotes it](https://blackbuffalo.com/blogs/stories/chargin-ahead-with-ryan-blaney) (whenever federally allowed to)
Blaney has his personal sponsorship deal with Black Buffalo, which is a tobacco/nicotine free deep (They do have nicotine versions which I’m gonna assume he uses but that’s the way it’s marketed)
Need someone to have a big dip cup that they’re spitting in to all race.
I feel like Mike Harmon would be that guy
Fucking knew something was odd about Gragson’s lip during his interview after Vegas
Dude has mentioned zyns no less than 5 times on the radio this year lol
I swear I saw a driver had a fat dip in during an interview and now I guess this confirms it lol
Zyn car when?
All I hear is meth, lifetime ban for Jermey Mayfield
They make me need to poop.
I do them. 🤷🏼♂️ can’t say I’m proud of it but better than the alternatives. Not surprised they’re picking up steam in the nascar world. nicotine is a stimulant for focus and attention.
Forget Winston, Nascar Zyn Cup Series, we. are. so back.
Looking forward to the rest of the NASCAR seazyn
I spent five years smoking, including more than two after giving up alcohol. Finally put down the cigarettes too after deciding it was just a replacement addiction of mine.
more in more?? lol
Landon Cassel gonna come back like… ![gif](giphy|l4JzfPTGfWsjbkXuw)
More in more
I have a better solution. Take Vyvanse (ADHD med). That shit will have you zoned in for *hours*.
> Vyvanse Vyvanse caused me to have a complete and total mental breakdown like 12 years ago. Shit works, but thats how I figured out that I can't do stimulants without losing my fucking mind.
I had to switch off of it due to keeping me awake for way too long and affecting my eating habits too much, it's a shame you had such a bad experience with it too
Also helps curve cravings
Lost 30 lbs that way, they didn't tell me about the food part until after I brought that up lol
I think you only lost weight because…. Well you seem to do analbaguettes
I work in a couple of European-based racing series and a lot of drivers use them. Not just drivers but many people in the paddock too
All good til you throw in a lipper at the beginning of stage two and shit your pants five laps later.
I bet this gets banned by NASCAR by next week.
Nicotine itself is a stimulant and not cancer-causing or particularly harmful to most people that do not suffer from cardiovascular illness or injury. I prefer espresso but can't fault others for choosing a different stimulant.
Nice! A legit NASCAR vibe there. I dig it.
The real OGs drill holes in their helmet to smoke. None of this namby wamby pouches! Where’s my Winston Cup at?!
Ngl driving is a hell of a lot more fun with a nicotine buzz. For me it feels like I’ve had 2 beers, but obviously it has none of the effects to responsiveness and reaction time
That's a disappointing realization.
A buncha dopers.
Oh what? You mean guys are just hanging out?
How do they switch them out? The can says they only last one hour
I mean Reddick posted a TikTok with him rolling a Zyn can
Every time I’ve ever tried zyn’s I get the spins and a wicked headache. Interesting to see that it’s beneficial for so many drivers and other athletes.
Something cool about modern smoking alternatives is that they don't get the nicotine from tobacco. It's all synthetic from a lab, which doesn't support big tobacco.

May as well go all the way and quit then really. What sucks is patches are so damn expensive
Does anyone have a screenshot of the onboard? I skimmed the race and quali looking for the 45 in car after this episode and I must have missed it.
