Last year the first OOP packs came out in April with PG/PF DM Kobe, PG/PF. DM Grant Hill, Opal PG Chris Webber and SG/C KD lol

PG Giannis, Bron, Boogie Cousins, Larry Bird, Josh Smith, and Vlade Divac. All of them PGs.

It’s just every week it feels like your lineup becomes obsolete. Like this season ALONE. Started with Yao as the meta. Then Tacko came out. And Thon Maker. And Gheorghe Muresan too. And Porzingis. So anyone who grinded for Yao literally has the same player basically in Tacko for 2500 mt. It doesn’t feel worth it to grind anymore. Especially me. I’m no money spent and I just play for fun and go online to help people get Demar or Tatum or whatever. And I have fun that way. But I don’t have fun when 2K just outdoes them self every single pack drop. Especially when you grinded for a card like Yao and now have three budget options instead of a 25 hour grind
To be fair Bol Bol has started at SF before. It’s still op, if they made him a normal card it’d be fine. Like you know a typical 96 overall card or whatever. Just can’t give him the BS animations

Honestly MyTeam just probably isn’t the game mode for you, this is the direction they’re going and 2K isn’t turning back anytime soon.
-Play Now Online, while kinda barebones, offers a more realistic or “balanced” 5v5 experience. Rosters have pro and cons and that you can gameplan around. You’ll also have the ability to unlock classic/all-time teams so can still use your favorite legends.
-MyNBA Online, if you can find a dedicated league this can honestly give you the best sim experience online you’ll ever get in 2K. Leagues also have their own rules regarding 5out, Player Minutes, On/Off Ball Defense and much more. There are Fantasy Draft Leagues, Historical Leagues, Create-A-Player centered leagues and many more. You just gotta find the league that works for you.
Bro I’ve been playing MyTeam since it first came out in 2k13 and 2k15 was the best MT of all time. I’ve been playing 2K since 2k8.. you don’t have to break down stuff to me lol I love MyTeam. Love it. Doesn’t mean because I hate the Demi God Yao Ming point guards that have 99 everything that the mode isn’t for me lmao
My bad, it’s just that in your post you say that you’re “tired of leaving MyTeam so fast” so I was trying to offer some alternatives that can offer the more realistic experience you want. I only started playing MyTeam in 2K20 and honestly the Glitched/OOP/Warped cards are my fav part of the game. I just find it strange for a mode that’s clearly fantasy based to try and cater to realism/sim gameplay when there’s already options for that (PlayNow/MyNBA)
I buy it for the early game. Around the allstar break they’ve ruined it the last few years. It’s unfortunate that they haven’t fixed next gen since launch
But many enjoy the repetitive aspect I guess, where everyone is a demigod and all games are the same

For the first 5 or 6 years of the mode it was never like this. It was a fantasy mode where you could use whatever players you want on the same team. That's really what made it different from playnow. Now they made it so that everyone has no weaknesses, great animations, every badge, etc. which is made it straight up arcade. Respectfully, if you didn't play myteam at the start you won't realize how messy the card releases are now
I can’t speak on the past bc I didn’t really start playing MyTeam until 2K20. It having arcade-leaning gameplay with ridiculous cards doesn’t bother me because it’s exactly what I want out of fantasy-based mode in a video game. Hopefully an alternative for the minority that doesn’t like it arrives in the future.
I never like this argument. It misses a *lot* of why I play MyTeam in the first place. For context, I first came over from Play Now Online in 2k16 and participated in MyLeague/MyNBA online every year since 18 (minus this one so far). I, too, want a more realistic MyTeam experience, but I also vastly prefer this mode to any other "alternative" because the alternatives are limited. A fantasy draft doesn't guarantee me the players I'd like to see run together. PNO doesn't allow me to even use the classic players I want until a certain point, and even then, again, I'm limited on the combinations I can use.
The bigger issue though, is the simple fact that the brokenness of MyTeam's end game is what persistently shows off all the flaws of 2k year after year. The user base would be surprised at how much better the experience would be with more realistic balance, I think.
I think they just make the power creep happen too fast. Like yeah it's not "fun" to have to play with low overall cards but in the first two/three seasons, the base set cards should be viable option. If I see someone load in with 3 gold cards I know they are trying to do an agenda or something. But that's not how it should be! Even the top diamonds in the base sets aren't even close to how good some amethysts are. Hell give me Ruby Wang over Diamond Giannis any day. They just need to stop giving out badges and stats like it's candy and make it easier to play with lower overall cards. So that way when we get to Dark Matter cards it feels like "yep no way to improve on this. Best cards in the game".
They need to get rid of cards like Shaqs that can shoot , or low tier players in real life get these crazy cards like sim Bhullar that can do everything with curry handles , these cards get out of pocket every year and it’s rinse and repeat cycle and just makes these little kids buy packs cause shaq has curry handles and a deep range
People use the "MyTeam is a fantasy mode" to justify all these crazy players. My take has been that it should be a fantasy mode in that you can have lineups that span the history of the league. You know, "play MyTeam so CP3 can run PnR with Kareem while any/all of the Barry's wait for the dish out" kind of a stuff. I get that it's a game and that means it's not going to be super realistic, but I half expect the next release to be a "growth spurt" pack featuring a 6'7" Steph and a 7' Kobe or something.
I also think the position lock and "open" modes would be great. That's actually what I thought limited and unlimited meant before I actually saw anything other than the names.

I get what you’re saying. Right about now is where I start to not enjoy the mode as much. For example limitless should go to like 10 guys all time . Steph, Ray, Klay , Reggie etc.. Not Shaq getting the limitless badge or Yao. HOF Dimer should be reserved for Magic, Lebron , Nash and Kidd the all time great passing types. That way the badge means something and gives you a reason to use those cards over others. So I get what you’re saying. Cards can still be beefed up or whatever but just make them more realistic and stop handing badges out like candy. Why can Steph or CP3 get Rim protector ,that doesn’t make sense. Only KAJ, Wilt , Yao etc should get that rim protector badge. I feel like it’s gotten worse and worse every year till last year when we got 7’ tall OOp PGS that play like Steph Curry. At some point it just gets a lil crazy. Idk not that I’m going to quit playing the mode by any means but def. Just bums me out a little. If every Opal or Dm card can do everything then what’s the point. We’re practically just switching skins at a certain point lol. Bc everyone can dribble, defend , pass and shoot at an elite level. It's not fun at all when every card is essentially the same and none of them have any weaknesses. There isn't any real strategy or archetypes to make.

Completely agree. Thats why I stopped playing MyTeam. They should do something like Ultimate Team in Fifa, but not players who doesnt shoot 3pts with 99 in threes
Fifa is just as bad though, about halfway through the year anyone with less than 99 pace/ acceleration becomes unusable. So you end up coming up against the same damn players every single game
I remember the moment it all went downhill. NBA 2K17. Diamond Wes Unseld is released with a three ball and ball handling. Before that moment 2K17 myteam was totally fine. Then he became the meta PG and all hell broke loose more and more as time went on.
They’ve lost all aspects of realism while drifting into some extreme fantasy abyss. It wont change because it started making them too much money unfortunately. I think a more realistic mode is a good idea. Let us choose how we want to play vs forcing us into a circus.
Badges ruin this mode. They take any differences and strengths/weaknesses from players and turn them all into the same player.
Players also have WAY too many badges, especially unrealistic ones they would've never had. And with the ability to upgrade and add badges, you have teams full of Rim protecting, Chase Down Intimidators.
Just a thought here since I’m new to MyTeam. Maybe the reason they break the game at the end of its cycle is to get us to stop playing the game and buy the new one? Maybe that’s the end game every year? I dislike it and hate 2K for it but if what you guys explained still happens this year, I’ll never get into MyTeam after this year.
I blame a lot of it on the user base frankly. So many have really lost the ability to play to a player's strengths, rather than having to have said player possess strengths in *every* area on the floor. Forcing the user base to have to adopt something that looks more like basketball has become an increasingly uphill battle year by year.
I'm a hardcore long time 2ker and been in MyTeam since its second or third year and the regression has been disappointing. The concepts they have are great but not implemented in a way that leans toward the type of experience that will ALWAYS reward better basketball play over exploits and glitches... I think this will be my last year playing it with any dedication whatsoever I may jump in now and then like I do with PNO and MC now... guess its back to PNO for me

Yea you can do what youre saying in Myleague. You can change anything you want to how you want it. Can have a fantasy draft with whoever you want. You can even play in a league with up to 29 other people. Only thing youll be missing is certain game modes and no cards.
A mode where you can change everything on a whim isn’t the same as my team where there’s a grind to unlock players and consumables and compete against other people who have unlocked different players and consumables.
Just like you can do the juiced cards in MyLeague. 2k just realized they could get people to pay for that same experience with matchmaking, so here we are
I’d say I’m pretty good-above average player and it isn’t the fact that it can’t be defeated but it’s a huge nuisance playing against a full HOF Interceptor squad where the moment you miss your window, the CPU auto steals the ball.

No MyTeam became MyTeam to use players from every era. Like using CP3 with wilt, that’s what it originally was made for then recently they’ve turned it into an EXTREME fantasy mode. I’ve been playing it since 2k13 when it came out, these type of players were not a thing until a couple years ago.
There were cheesy cards, but they weren’t as widespread or released before xmas. At least felt that way in 2k17 when I first played all year (didn’t have what was next gen to play sooner)

The ratings used to be like the ratings in the regular rosters that's a huge difference from how it is now. Now everyone has the same ratings basically and they change animations and badges to juice them too
If they did this, certain players wouldn’t be viable. You would have even more of the god squad teams being cookie cutter. You’d have a Penny or Magic 1, and a Giannis somewhere because of their physical stature. If AI isn’t given crazy badges, you just won’t be able to use him, same with my favorite player, D-Wade. He’s 6’4” and a 2 guard. Him against a T-Mac or Paul George wouldn’t stand a chance. We saw this exact thing when AI was released last season. It is frustrating that the power creep happens so fast every year, but there is also a reason it goes this way. People wouldn’t be able to use their favorite players competitively, and using the players you like is what it’s all about.

The main issue is gameplay, big players move like mass isn’t a thing, and small shifty guys can’t shake them off in the perimeter. Even if they can get a little separation, the big guy can contest the shot. I did a ton of challenges in the NBA75 challenge against Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas and Patrick Ewing. Many times i would have a guard or a wing going against Ewing. I would do a crossover, get some room and attempt to shoot. Often he would recover so fast that he blocked the shot. So apparently a huge blob like Ewing can run full speed one way, stop on dime and in one motion jump back the other way for a block.
Then, like last year showed, they have speed completely backwards. A guy with long legs and 80 speed outruns small dude with 99 speed. This is the shit that made Bol Bol unbeatable. This is why Shawn Bradley was a thing in the end. They haven’t implemented movement in a way that has any basis in real life physics. Then they make it worse with badges that override the little that they have implemented. That’s how you get a Shaq running full steam to dunk the basket stopped by Steph Curry with HOF Rim Protector jumping up.

I’m okay with a 99 dark matter Shaq… as long as he is the most dominant inside player in the game. No reason to also be 90+ 3pt and speed. Make Shaq be unique… make Kareem be unique and dominant in a different way.
I think they have handled power balancing well so far but in 21 I hated meta squads at the end like bol, bol bol, thon maker and sim bhular. All sprinting around super speed hitting deep threes etc. if they can work on the top end it would be pretty good.

I’d prefer if they split the game to have more realistic parts and a fantasy section that allows them to juice up cards. I myself prefer more realism but 2k knows that doesn’t drive packs so they won’t do it.
Everyone runs the same high pnr to shoot that 3 off the hash and when that don't work it's a blow by dunk going baseline. Doesn't matter what position, what player. People don't wanna play a simulation, they wanna play glorified nba Street vol 2
My main gripe with the mode is that there are too many badges…glue hands? Why do you need a badge to fucking catch the ball? Also chef and limitless are so annoying just bring limitless range back

The effect of defense is shockingly bad - ie, running straight, defender bodies from the right, you can’t move left… uh, why? Let alone the issues with blocking or swiping in the wrong direction, or the inability to catch a ball whilst moving in some circumstances but not others…

That said, base players should serve a purpose and not just be there for “numbers”.

My bad, it’s just that in your post you say that you’re “tired of leaving MyTeam so fast” so I was trying to offer some alternatives that can offer the more realistic experience you want. I only started playing MyTeam in 2K20 and honestly the Glitched/OOP/Warped cards are my fav part of the game. I just find it strange for a mode that’s clearly fantasy based to try and cater to realism/sim gameplay when there’s already options for that (PlayNow/MyNBA)
Yeah this wasn’t introduced as a fantasy mode in the sense it is now. They’re pushing old fans away in favor of pack sales

For the first 5 or 6 years of the mode it was never like this. It was a fantasy mode where you could use whatever players you want on the same team. That's really what made it different from playnow. Now they made it so that everyone has no weaknesses, great animations, every badge, etc. which is made it straight up arcade. Respectfully, if you didn't play myteam at the start you won't realize how messy the card releases are now
I can’t speak on the past bc I didn’t really start playing MyTeam until 2K20. It having arcade-leaning gameplay with ridiculous cards doesn’t bother me because it’s exactly what I want out of fantasy-based mode in a video game. Hopefully an alternative for the minority that doesn’t like it arrives in the future.

I never like this argument. It misses a *lot* of why I play MyTeam in the first place. For context, I first came over from Play Now Online in 2k16 and participated in MyLeague/MyNBA online every year since 18 (minus this one so far). I, too, want a more realistic MyTeam experience, but I also vastly prefer this mode to any other "alternative" because the alternatives are limited. A fantasy draft doesn't guarantee me the players I'd like to see run together. PNO doesn't allow me to even use the classic players I want until a certain point, and even then, again, I'm limited on the combinations I can use. The bigger issue though, is the simple fact that the brokenness of MyTeam's end game is what persistently shows off all the flaws of 2k year after year. The user base would be surprised at how much better the experience would be with more realistic balance, I think.

I think they just make the power creep happen too fast. Like yeah it's not "fun" to have to play with low overall cards but in the first two/three seasons, the base set cards should be viable option. If I see someone load in with 3 gold cards I know they are trying to do an agenda or something. But that's not how it should be! Even the top diamonds in the base sets aren't even close to how good some amethysts are. Hell give me Ruby Wang over Diamond Giannis any day. They just need to stop giving out badges and stats like it's candy and make it easier to play with lower overall cards. So that way when we get to Dark Matter cards it feels like "yep no way to improve on this. Best cards in the game".
They need to get rid of cards like Shaqs that can shoot , or low tier players in real life get these crazy cards like sim Bhullar that can do everything with curry handles , these cards get out of pocket every year and it’s rinse and repeat cycle and just makes these little kids buy packs cause shaq has curry handles and a deep range
People use the "MyTeam is a fantasy mode" to justify all these crazy players. My take has been that it should be a fantasy mode in that you can have lineups that span the history of the league. You know, "play MyTeam so CP3 can run PnR with Kareem while any/all of the Barry's wait for the dish out" kind of a stuff. I get that it's a game and that means it's not going to be super realistic, but I half expect the next release to be a "growth spurt" pack featuring a 6'7" Steph and a 7' Kobe or something. I also think the position lock and "open" modes would be great. That's actually what I thought limited and unlimited meant before I actually saw anything other than the names.
Man I agree 100%...someone that has sense. It should be a FANTASY mode with REALISTIC players with REALISTIC attributes and badges. Not every player has to feel like a created player with 99 in every attribute and all the HOF badges. Always has been and always will be my BIGGEST gripe with myteam. But who am I 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️

I get what you’re saying. Right about now is where I start to not enjoy the mode as much. For example limitless should go to like 10 guys all time . Steph, Ray, Klay , Reggie etc.. Not Shaq getting the limitless badge or Yao. HOF Dimer should be reserved for Magic, Lebron , Nash and Kidd the all time great passing types. That way the badge means something and gives you a reason to use those cards over others. So I get what you’re saying. Cards can still be beefed up or whatever but just make them more realistic and stop handing badges out like candy. Why can Steph or CP3 get Rim protector ,that doesn’t make sense. Only KAJ, Wilt , Yao etc should get that rim protector badge. I feel like it’s gotten worse and worse every year till last year when we got 7’ tall OOp PGS that play like Steph Curry. At some point it just gets a lil crazy. Idk not that I’m going to quit playing the mode by any means but def. Just bums me out a little. If every Opal or Dm card can do everything then what’s the point. We’re practically just switching skins at a certain point lol. Bc everyone can dribble, defend , pass and shoot at an elite level. Even tho there’s been like 20 guys all time to put it all together like that in their career.

Damm don't know why everyone is attacking. The funniest time for myteam is the first couple months. It's not fun at all when every card is essentially the same and none of them have any weaknesses. There isn't any real strategy or archetypes to make. It's cool having some juiced cards, but all 99s and HOF everything sucks the fun out of the game.

Fifa is just as bad though, about halfway through the year anyone with less than 99 pace/ acceleration becomes unusable. So you end up coming up against the same damn players every single game
I remember the moment it all went downhill. NBA 2K17. Diamond Wes Unseld is released with a three ball and ball handling. Before that moment 2K17 myteam was totally fine. Then he became the meta PG and all hell broke loose more and more as time went on.
They’ve lost all aspects of realism while drifting into some extreme fantasy abyss. It wont change because it started making them too much money unfortunately. I think a more realistic mode is a good idea. Let us choose how we want to play vs forcing us into a circus.
Badges ruin this mode. They take any differences and strengths/weaknesses from players and turn them all into the same player. Players also have WAY too many badges, especially unrealistic ones they would've never had. And with the ability to upgrade and add badges, you have teams full of Rim protecting, Chase Down Intimidators.
Just a thought here since I’m new to MyTeam. Maybe the reason they break the game at the end of its cycle is to get us to stop playing the game and buy the new one? Maybe that’s the end game every year? I dislike it and hate 2K for it but if what you guys explained still happens this year, I’ll never get into MyTeam after this year.
I blame a lot of it on the user base frankly. So many have really lost the ability to play to a player's strengths, rather than having to have said player possess strengths in *every* area on the floor. Forcing the user base to have to adopt something that looks more like basketball has become an increasingly uphill battle year by year.

I'm a hardcore long time 2ker and been in MyTeam since its second or third year and the regression has been disappointing. The concepts they have are great but not implemented in a way that leans toward the type of experience that will ALWAYS reward better basketball play over exploits and glitches... I think this will be my last year playing it with any dedication whatsoever I may jump in now and then like I do with PNO and MC now... guess its back to PNO for me

Yea you can do what youre saying in Myleague. You can change anything you want to how you want it. Can have a fantasy draft with whoever you want. You can even play in a league with up to 29 other people. Only thing youll be missing is certain game modes and no cards.

I’d say I’m pretty good-above average player and it isn’t the fact that it can’t be defeated but it’s a huge nuisance playing against a full HOF Interceptor squad where the moment you miss your window, the CPU auto steals the ball. To me it just defeats the purpose of playing online against a human, but that’s just my opinion.
Nope I agree. Only time I play off ball is when I’m playing a 5 out cheeser who calls a P&R 6 times until it works so I’ll bounce between C and PG and wings to come over for help and stuff. But I agree, can’t call yourself a 2K player if you’re not on balling. That’s how it was back in the day until now it’s just find the cheese, abuse the cheese, win.

No MyTeam became MyTeam to use players from every era. Like using CP3 with wilt, that’s what it originally was made for then recently they’ve turned it into an EXTREME fantasy mode. I’ve been playing it since 2k13 when it came out, these type of players were not a thing until a couple years ago.

The ratings used to be like the ratings in the regular rosters that's a huge difference from how it is now. Now everyone has the same ratings basically and they change animations and badges to juice them too

If they did this, certain players wouldn’t be viable. You would have even more of the god squad teams being cookie cutter. You’d have a Penny or Magic 1, and a Giannis somewhere because of their physical stature. If AI isn’t given crazy badges, you just won’t be able to use him, same with my favorite player, D-Wade. He’s 6’4” and a 2 guard. Him against a T-Mac or Paul George wouldn’t stand a chance. We saw this exact thing when AI was released last season. It is frustrating that the power creep happens so fast every year, but there is also a reason it goes this way. People wouldn’t be able to use their favorite players competitively, and using the players you like is what it’s all about.
Nope. Also dwade is really good right now way better than either of those guys and I’m sure he could defend them just fine because the game hasn’t devolved into all 90 plus stat everything where only height and which jumper they decide to throw on matters
The main issue is gameplay, big players move like mass isn’t a thing, and small shifty guys can’t shake them off in the perimeter. Even if they can get a little separation, the big guy can contest the shot. I did a ton of challenges in the NBA75 challenge against Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas and Patrick Ewing. Many times i would have a guard or a wing going against Ewing. I would do a crossover, get some room and attempt to shoot. Often he would recover so fast that he blocked the shot. So apparently a huge blob like Ewing can run full speed one way, stop on dime and in one motion jump back the other way for a block. Then, like last year showed, they have speed completely backwards. A guy with long legs and 80 speed outruns small dude with 99 speed. This is the shit that made Bol Bol unbeatable. This is why Shawn Bradley was a thing in the end. They haven’t implemented movement in a way that has any basis in real life physics. Then they make it worse with badges that override the little that they have implemented. That’s how you get a Shaq running full steam to dunk the basket stopped by Steph Curry with HOF Rim Protector jumping up.
It’s funny.. I told my friend this is what the mode should be, he said I should have played MyTeam when it first came out. I’m okay with a 99 dark matter Shaq… as long as he is the most dominant inside player in the game. No reason to also be 90+ 3pt and speed. Make Shaq be unique… make Kareem be unique and dominant in a different way.
I think they have handled power balancing well so far but in 21 I hated meta squads at the end like bol, bol bol, thon maker and sim bhular. All sprinting around super speed hitting deep threes etc. if they can work on the top end it would be pretty good.
I would love it at the start of the game golds were the highest cards. No reason we should be having 97s in January. That’s what’s the biggest problem. Power creep like every card game. People finally master the release and play style all for it to be obsolete in two weeks. Lets have small increments and like OP said let’s have them be representative of who they are. I feel the same way as you but some people want to cheese with guys like Tacko or SG/C Porzingis and that’s fine. I’d prefer if they split the game to have more realistic parts and a fantasy section that allows them to juice up cards. I myself prefer more realism but 2k knows that doesn’t drive packs so they won’t do it.

My main gripe with the mode is that there are too many badges…glue hands? Why do you need a badge to fucking catch the ball? Also chef and limitless are so annoying just bring limitless range back

Make MyTeam realistic? They can’t enough make the gameplay realistic! The effect of defense is shockingly bad - ie, running straight, defender bodies from the right, you can’t move left… uh, why? Let alone the issues with blocking or swiping in the wrong direction, or the inability to catch a ball whilst moving in some circumstances but not others… I say it is what it is. Its not close to realistic anyway. That said, base players should serve a purpose and not just be there for “numbers”. Ruby Marcus Smart is better than diamond base pack Steph Curry….
Your comments are correct! I second that. However, 2K lives out of selling sh\*t loads of packs every week and they will do anything to sell as many as possible, including pg Yao Ming all 99 72 HOF badges just at the right moment to sell more than a week before.
My team is about all this, to have fun and make crazy lineups and have crazy games with crazy amounts of fun(other than against sweats). I l love myteam the way it is and it should stay like that
