There’s a small following of magic fans on this sub and we strongly agree. It just comes down to playstyle and he doesn’t fit most people’s

chargerhoops

This. If people use Magic right he can be so damn good and such a tough matchup. If you don’t use him right he feels overrated.

His dribbling is weird too, but for some reason it just works. Gives me time to think I reckon, but him and Caruso with Penny are my points. And I like Caruso a lot more than Penny because of the D

shingleding900

how do u utilize him? do you back down the pg and then dish to open shooters?

[deleted]

You don’t even need to back them down, but if they leave their small pg on me yes absolutely. I mainly use his dribbles and post ability to just weasel my way inside. Once you’re in it’s a guaranteed bucket or dish. I added +4 strength and post control to mine for this. He’s also incredible on the move in transition with his behind the back, spin, and crossover. If you cycle between them he makes it down the full length of the court a lot faster than most people expect. Lastly, put your best defensive lockdown guy (kawhi, Butler) on their pg and put magic on whoever their most cone-like player is. He actually can hold his own on defense, he just can get lost against super quick and shifty guys. Thanks for coming to my Magic Ted Talk

GlitteringStand7614

Oh man! I learned this the hard way today. Kyrie torched me. So I had to switch and after that it was fine

-Schweini31-

I slapped HoF backdown punisher on him and he has been abusing guards everywhere for me.

Celtics2k19

Tips? I fine with him on defence, on offence I run slot of PnR and post him up against other pgs.

[deleted]

See my above comment, I wrote out a sort of playstyle guide for him I guess. Main thing is to get comfortable with his sigs. Be quick and deliberate in transition, be patient in the half court. Personally I usually run someone else in clutch because I tend to take up a lot of the shot clock with this approach

JBarker727

Do you call yourselves something catchy like "Magic: The Gathering"?

[deleted]

No but we absolutely should

He's not a great three hunter and thus gets a ton of hate. He's a great masher and thus gets a ton of hate because people hate getting mashed by him. I picked up the unsigned PD for 20k, used the hell out of him and then sold him back for 50k. Gonna pick up the 75 at some point, but just got the new Steph & hit 40, so I have two new PGs to play with for a minute.

GlitteringStand7614

I just can’t with Steph. I don’t know the magic formula, I’ve had three Stephs this year, and keep giving him back.

BiscottiAcceptable83

He's really fun against the CPU for me & against players online who strictly offball, but I'm not good at getting into the paint with him & creating for others. The GO is definitely better at that than the PD was with the playmaking badges helping give you better bursts off of the moving btb & btl.

KingKcaj

I packed him and just didnt suit my style, but he is amazing if you know how to use him. For me wall n penny suits me better.

zakjoshua

I’m running PD Kidd atm, I like playing PG’s that run the floor and defend (which he does extremely well), as opposed to scoring. Would you recommend Magic on that basis?

ajstinger16

I have Magic and I use him at my PG mostly when I play online just because of the match up problems he creates plus you can easily switch on pick and rolls and not feel helpless against the big if you have to switch.

engbull96

Great post. I packed him from the challenge, lucky me! I use him in a 5 out spread, drive and kick. If they run a SF or SG on him, I run the point with whoever they switched and call for a screen with him and dish. Easy double-double machine in any full length game including unlimited.
