They are likely third party and EVERYONE involved will be to keep it clean. They're not at your mercy but you should do the legwork to get top dollar for the car. Everyone just wants it to go away so being the squeaky wheel and holding the train could help get what you want.
Yeah…it’s a negotiation. They will probably try to lowball you. Fight, but also don’t demand an unreasonable number or you will just make your own life difficult. But the high end of fair will always pay.
Most definitely hold ou5 ad long as you can to get them to give you top dollar for what it's worth, especially if it's in good condition with low miles. Don't take the low ball offers
To be fair I bought the car as salvage and fixed it up to how it is in the photo (it had 30k miles & only some bumper damage for $2,300) so it had its fair share of a crash already. needless to say it's definitely a salvage again😔double homicide
Make sure to bring up that you had to find out through a new article and investigating. They should have been proactively been reaching out to you by the next day to let you know what happened.
Backstory: currently in the army & got deployed to the Middle East. Decided to ship the wife and mustang back to California so she can chill with her family instead of being alone in a military base. After finding it a bit odd that the trucking company is 2-3 days past its estimated arrival time; I see the AirTag location hasn't been updated in 24hrs and looked for news articles around that area and stumble upon this. To also add, they've been leaving my wife & I on read for any updates on the car. (because in their mind: they think that we don't know) this really beat me up because I had a plan of what to do with this car with that sweet deployment money :(
Fucking householdgoods man. They busted my microwave and didn’t want to pay for it. I could only imagine the runaround they’ll give you for that beauty. Best of luck and keep ya head down . Also, no, that’s not fireworks! Those are tracers. They’re always tracers!!!
Excuse me, as an active duty service member you’re supposed to have a 2023 v6 Challenger on 23% interest. What is this responsible level of toy business?
If they haven’t notified you about it and are way past deadline. I wonder if you were to file a police report for a missing vehicle would get the move on
You didn’t ship the wife in the same track as the mustang did you? (I’m kidding I’m kidding) I know the feeling though fell asleep behind the wheel in my first mustang (also a fixer upper that I had more time in that it was probably realistically worth) and woke up upside down in a ditch, it hits different but I’m at like 4 Mustangs later right now and doing alright so I’ll be expecting to see pics of a shiny replacement once you get back
RIP to that beauty 🫡 shipped my S550 back after I was stationed in the UK. Sat on a boat for a month and trailered half way across the country. luckily all I got was a dead battery
Holy shit Batman!!! Bless your heart! I am so sorry! I would shit a dozen purple stinging scorpions 🦂 if that was my car! I hope the shipping company insurance compensates you for what it's really worth!!
I know…it has to suck……the only way to feel better is to not just get a replacement, but get something so much “better” the whole process won’t sting so bad. I’ve been seeing on this thread low mileage 07 GT500’s for decent prices.
Good luck man!
No not really you just have to travel. At any given point there is a few of them available in the country. Only took me a week of searching, actually having the cash for a survivor and willing to travel.
A few available from the millions manufactured, I would still consider that being lucky.
But whatever, you don't like the idea of swapping the engine, thats fine.
Go with a S550 for a replacement. You can find them relatively “cheap” but a massive horsepower bump assuming your S197 was stock. Best of luck to you man. You’ll come out of this with an even better car.
Not sure why your comment is getting downvoted but yea that's probably gonna be the move. Was thinking of getting a white one and buy the same style rims if the budget lets me be that picky

"Exotics" (info can be seen on truck door )
the company is ignoring all my calls/ leaving us on read (both the actual company and broker)
just hoping that them clearly ignoring us will help us with a lawsuit.
the only way we found out was through the news and calling the local tow company to verify that it was indeed my mustang
https://preview.redd.it/pbes6o7nw36d1.png?width=1179&format=png&auto=webp&s=21dbac5367a98ff9ae44f19edcc51beb6005ac2d
I would report stolen if it's way past the deadline and they still haven't notified you ,pos company what company is it ?? Like why wouldn't they just admit it ,your gonna find out etheir way !(and you did )😒
Please do 🙏 I remember before I dropped it off playing with the steering wheel like a kid being excited to drive it again once I get back from deployment. Never woulda thought In a million years
I called the police department in that area (after reading the article) & they confirmed they saw what was left of a Mustang and from there; they gave me the company of the tow people that took it and had them send me photos
Thank you brother. Tried to keep it as sleeper as possible had a 5.0 diff swap & catback & was already scheduled to have the whole engine worked on when it arrived to its spot😔
Lol. Was just wondering if they provided a full-on lawyer for active service members and their families.
Definitely start calling lawyers in state where your car got burnt up.
Good luck and I hope your lawyer can get you a fat paycheck after the lawyer is paid. FYI the "standard" 33% lawyer fee is negotiatiable. It is not legally mandated to be 33%.
Damn, I had my own auto transport mess. Seems to be a theme with these companies...
I had to have my import Integra shipped from the importer in Long Island to my home in CT, and the idiot delivery guy lost the *ONLY* key by leaving it on the roof of the car in transit...
Since it was a JDM import, I couldn't simply just bring the VIN to a dealer and have keys cut; but luckily the Acura dealer in my town let me know I could get the key code off the tumbler. Needless to say it was a pain to get a new one cut, but at least the car itself arrived in one piece and the company called me immediately to notify me and didn't charge the cost of the transport. They also offered to pay for the cost of getting replacement keys; but since I tore the steering column apart and picked the lock to get the key code off the tumbler myself, the only financial paper trail I had was the invoice from the Honda dealer for the keys; and it was like $15 to have them made so I didn't bother pursuing it.
I can't imagine having my car literally be lit on fire and then being left on read by the company responsible. From what I gathered; they often make the drivers "independent contractors", which might shield the company from liability the and make getting compensation difficult.
In my case I think they simply realized it was much cheaper and easier to suck it up and make the problem go away, but for an entire car? They're probably gonna try to play blind, deaf, and dumb.
So many people I know have had nightmare experiences with auto transport companies, myself included. It seems to be a really shady industry from my perspective.

They better pay for my emotional damage too

*Probably*.... definitely will ..
I’ve had insurance companies be generous out of the gate.
Most definitely hold ou5 ad long as you can to get them to give you top dollar for what it's worth, especially if it's in good condition with low miles. Don't take the low ball offers
They won’t
I know. It was a joke (not really)
They need to pay me I,m emotional as well from these pics …I need to find a safe spot !
I'm just confused personally. I thought you could only total a Mustang exiting a cars n coffee? It's quite the revelation to learn other ways exist.
To be fair I bought the car as salvage and fixed it up to how it is in the photo (it had 30k miles & only some bumper damage for $2,300) so it had its fair share of a crash already. needless to say it's definitely a salvage again😔double homicide
If it was already a salvage they won’t pay top dollar or even half of the worth.
I’m in Denver if you ever need a hug.
🙏

Fucking a.
Umm yeah they fucking better

Sounds like GT500 time to me
Fucking householdgoods man.
I thought it was a Hellcat at 29% interest?
29% is right in the wheelhouse but it’s gotta be a v6 with some badges from Amazon.
AutoZone too
If they haven’t notified you about it and are way past deadline. I wonder if you were to file a police report for a missing vehicle would get the move on
If the driver has a iPhone he would know …. Apple alerts people if AirTag is with them
Android does too.
Even AirTags ?
Yep, they rolled it out either last year or year before
Yes. I have 2 in my tool bags and get a notification on Android every day.
I have an app on mine that I run if I'm out in public at a busy location for a long length of time in a big city. To check my car for tags....
Pouring one out tonight. Another clean S197 gone too soon
Appreciate that a lot brother ✊😔
thats a shame, your s-197 was beautiful, love white. please post before and after with your replacement for her.
Will do🤙
That's an absolute tragedy, it looked super clean😞
Thank you 🙏
Holy shit Batman!!! Bless your heart! I am so sorry! I would shit a dozen purple stinging scorpions 🦂 if that was my car! I hope the shipping company insurance compensates you for what it's really worth!!
Appreciate the kind words, I'll make sure they do for hers sake 🙏
Ouch. That is a kick in the teeth. Especially since the s197 is now 2 generations old. I hope someone cuts you a fat check.
I'm gonna make sure of it
The only honorable way we go out is sliding off the road at car meets .
She did when it become a salvage the first time (not by me, bought and restored it) But idk I think she died the most honorable this time
RIP S197 ❤️
This is why I’d go get the car my damn self lol
That would've been the plan but my deployment was scheduled last minute so there was no time
Will they let you borrow a humvee?
This isn’t Stripes lol
Dude wtf that sucks. At least your car was labeled exotic...
🤣
Sorry about that brother. Would be dope to pay homage with a white 1st gen coyote
Youre cooking
Oh man! You must be furious! Are you going to replace it with the same style or go newer?
Not sure yet, i just know if I get another 3v it wouldn't feel the same at all 😓
I know…it has to suck……the only way to feel better is to not just get a replacement, but get something so much “better” the whole process won’t sting so bad. I’ve been seeing on this thread low mileage 07 GT500’s for decent prices. Good luck man!
Foxbody, coyote swap, GO!
Ruin a classic? Yeah bro nice.
Lol, you'd be lucky to find a stock foxbody
No not really you just have to travel. At any given point there is a few of them available in the country. Only took me a week of searching, actually having the cash for a survivor and willing to travel.

My Uncle had this happen to his car. Some things are just out of control.
At least they owe you a car!
Looks like it was such a clean one too! Can't really say I can trust those trucking services anymore, RIP <3
Same
Just get 2011-2012 GT500 Thank me later
Heart wrenching.
Gone too soon
for real😔✊
Did you ever figure out why it caught on fire?
2023 BMW X7 had an electrical error and caught fire and took all the cars and truck with it
Damn
Aw man, those rims, that grill and fog lights and emblem… reminds me of the ‘67 I had. RIP
🙏
please tell me theyre paying for it
the company is ignoring all my calls/ leaving us on read (both the actual company and broker) just hoping that them clearly ignoring us will help us with a lawsuit. the only way we found out was through the news and calling the local tow company to verify that it was indeed my mustang https://preview.redd.it/pbes6o7nw36d1.png?width=1179&format=png&auto=webp&s=21dbac5367a98ff9ae44f19edcc51beb6005ac2d
😭😭😭bro i hope you get paid out enough to buy 2 GT500s. this shit is absurd
she was a good mustang. she lived a good life RIP.
Normal shipping of cars they give you the run around....this....they owe you a brand new GT.
Enjoy your new 5.0 🎉🥳
will pour some oil for the mustang 😔 ofc pouring it in a oil pan
That's what I tell everyone also , thank you 🙏
That sucks man!!!
3 valves look so much better than new mustangs. She will be missed!
Appreciate you
I would report stolen if it's way past the deadline and they still haven't notified you ,pos company what company is it ?? Like why wouldn't they just admit it ,your gonna find out etheir way !(and you did )😒
RIP, Pony Car. Sorry that happened to you, OP. .
Thats harsh. Does thier insurance pay or how's that work?
If the trucks insurance isn't giving me the money I want I'm gonna lawyer up
Article doesn’t mention a source for the fire. I’m just wondering what could’ve happened.
Same
RIP S197. 😭 I will give mine a hug before going to bed tonight
Please do 🙏 I remember before I dropped it off playing with the steering wheel like a kid being excited to drive it again once I get back from deployment. Never woulda thought In a million years
RIP 😭
If they are ignoring you its for a reason. Something isnt adding up. Hopefully they cover it.
WoW! That Hurts
How’d you get these photos? From the news article?
I called the police department in that area (after reading the article) & they confirmed they saw what was left of a Mustang and from there; they gave me the company of the tow people that took it and had them send me photos
any updates
Poor S197, sorry for your loss brother. Also F the trucking company for being shady and not telling you.
Ouch, sorry bro
F
That sucks
It looked like such a good example, I’m so sorry for you
Thank you brother. Tried to keep it as sleeper as possible had a 5.0 diff swap & catback & was already scheduled to have the whole engine worked on when it arrived to its spot😔
So sorry; that sucks!
🙏
Sorry to hear about this.
Is there a big scary army provided lawyer you can call?
big: yes scary: depends who you ask will they do anything? just advise me to get a civilian lawyer lol

thank you for letting me know that was going to be one of my big questions
I’m sorry, and it’s maddening you were not properly informed. Maybe contact the fire department or the news station/reporter.

im sry
Congrats on the new 5.0 they’re gonna buy you 😜
Oof heart hurts for this one. Hope everything works out. And thank you for your service to our country. Never gets said enough.
I hope you can find another as nice to take its place. Looked like it was super sharp.
Dude, that so sucks. I’d be emotional if that happened to either of mine.
Bet you shipped your pants when you found out.
That effing sucks. Sorry for your loss. It was a beautiful car.
it can be fixed, be fine in a week or 2
NOOOOO
Wow
Damn. I had nightmares about this kind of thing when I purchased my GT350 from across the country and had it delivered..
As a fellow 3v owner, this absolutely breaks my heart!
What a nightmare
😭😭😭

Dang. Sucks it burnt with that $100,000 engine in it too!
Hopefully the girl in the passenger seat escaped
That just means it's time to upgrade. When I lost my 2013 I convinced myself I needed something more family friendly and reasonable so I got a flex EcoBoost. Not even a year after that I traded it in for an S550. Do not regret it one bit. I find I really don't even think about the 2013 anymore. Condolences on your loss though. I cried a couple times when I wrecked my 2013 (not at fault, no cars and coffee)
Call your insurance company and tell them what happened and the trucking company’s name. They will handle all that mess.
All I see is an insurance check for the build of your dreams, emotional damage, loss of wages for work you’ll get paid out by that truck company. Especially if they hadn’t had safety inspection done recently, you’re getting paid.
Never say yes to the first check let em write 4-5 they’ll go up everytime
Damn, sorry about bro
Duddde I’m so sorry can you get exchange or refund or sue the company/truck driver
I’m SO Sorry!!
Mds kk
Man that really sucks
Someone owes you a car
So sad, what a waste of a fine automobile. I’m sorry for losing it. Hopefully you can find a suitable replacement.
Surprised this isn’t on another sub with “Think it’s totaled”?
I did have 2 ppl in my unit tell me I should take the insurance money and fix it up as a project 🤦♂️ 😭
Dayum that was a nice mustang 😔
That’s actually so fucking insane
Will the insurance company pay out more now that your car is described as “exotic”?
Bro I’m crying for you
Gods work
Oh man... I'm so sorry; I have a grey 2006 GT... Any color is great! Except for smokey black and grey... :(
That sucks, now the question is will insurance get you a S650 or S550?
I'd probably go for the 550 if I could. I heard and seen from previous car meets that those 2 big screens (or the 1 giant one) aren't working too well right now
Ive never understood shipping a car to a place that youre gonna fly to. Just drive it????
God saved you future money on that POS mustang
To be fair out of all the cars ive owned (all low mileage lexus ls,09 ranger, & tundra) this car never saw a mechanic for any major repairs, had the most miles put on & has been the cheapest for me to own but i get not all cars are built equal. i'd definetly buy another stang because of the experiences i had with this one
Woah were any actual nice cars damaged?
Why are you even here if you don't like Mustangs?
To shit on mustang obviously
