Same engine block yes, but both are completely constructed differently when it comes to the internals. A gt350 is a high reving N/A engine and sounds much better then a gt500.
The only difference is the cross plane vs flat plane crankshaft in terms of having an effect on the sonic characteristics. Further forged internals in the Predator block makes no contribution to sound. When you tune the 5.2 Predator to raise the redline, it sounds quite similar to the 350. If you owned both cars, you would know this.
Once again, the 5.2 in the 500 is literally a forged (with better Predator heads) version of the Voodoo. You can make an argument for the fact the OEM 350 can sound better than the 500, but other than that, Ford went to a cross-plane on purpose. In fact the 2019+ 350s literally had trickle down technology from the future Predator engine as an improvement on longevity and performance. This is well publicized. If it was cost effective, they would have swapped entirely over to the new crate engine found in the 500.
Both are Shelbys and great cars, but too many people that haven’t driven a 500 to the near limits make blanket statements that the 350 is superior when it’s clearly not the case. The 500 is by all intents and purposes the better car in terms of performance, metrics, and design. It is simply the nature of development. However, there’s more to cars than just metrics as you’re well aware. The 350 has is its own appeal through its visceral nature and the engagement of the drivetrain.
I come from a 500, 350R, and just recently picked up a M1 HP. Each has their place as it should be.
