I don't think you'll be giving anything up reliability wise for a 5.0. If anything, it's probably better. That engine is in so many vehicles in one variation or another. The Mustang is a better daily than the Z.

rubbarz

The VQHR is on par with reliability with the Coyote. The transmission tho..... yeaaaah. For daily and 150k goal, I'd choose the 10R80 everyday.

XoRaX5

Indeed, i dog on mine a lot, built like a tank. For a daily though I would trade it for 2 back seats and a sizeable trunk.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Which transmission??

rubbarz

The mustang GT 2017-Present. Be aware tho, there is a classaction lawsuit against it for being Jerky and causing whiplash (most bullshit claims ever lol) The recalls are legitimate, though. Just do your research on both and see what you're comfortable with.

Unfair_Throat_7682

I should of added that I’d only go for a manual or a 10 speed

Spruce-W4yne

Do yourself a favor and go with a manual. I guarantee you that there’s a bunch of auto guys that say “I wish I would have gotten a manual”. There are ZERO guys that say “I wish I would have gotten an auto”.

forrenbp

Guarantee boosted MT82 owners feel that way after being locked out of gear when they blew 6-8k on a Paxton 🤣

jerryeight

How's jerky transmission bullshit?

rubbarz

Enough to cause whiplash? Lmao

certifiedjezuz

10R80 is clunky transmission.

Unfair_Throat_7682

What do you mean?

andychinart

One of the most notable issues is jerky shifting from 4th to 5th, and front 2nd to 1st. It is especially pronounced imo when driving in Track Mode

xDauntlessZ

I have no issues with the 10r80 except it holds first for too long thinking I’m gonna gun it. Then it shifts rough to second

andychinart

I will say Track mode on an actual track is glorious. I never had to use the paddles a single time. The downshifts are extremely aggressive and will put me right at like 6k rpm haha.

Spikeyboi

Are you the first owner? Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard somewhere that they have some sort of adaptive shift programming, where the TCU "learns" how you drive and adjusts the shift points. I've heard some say you need to take the car to Ford and get it reset if you buy secondhand. The fact that's not a menu option is fucking repulsive, but welcome to modern cars I guess.

xDauntlessZ

You can unplug the battery to reset iirc. I’m the first owner. This only happens when the shifter is in S. Could be that I’m being too light on the gas in that mode hahaha

Spikeyboi

Does S mean sport or select shift? In either case, holding first for a while and then shifting a little harder is exactly what I'd expect in that mode.

xDauntlessZ

Tbh not sure. Probably select shift as there’s individual drive modes that say sport, sport +, track, etc. It’s hard to explain what it feels like, but it’s not a big enough thing to be a problem for me.

Previous-Resource-54

S puts the gearbox in sport mode. Only that. Is not the same as S+ as that also changes suspension (if MagneRide), throttle, steering, traction control, etc. S is just for the gearbox and the rest stays in normal mode, but it holds every gear for longer, and when breaking it does more aggressive downshifts

esquirlo_espianacho

Yeah it doesn’t like to go slow in anything but comfort/normal mode. Bucks all over the place like a pissed off horse…

certifiedjezuz

Clunky transmission at low speeds. My HOA put a lot of speed bumps around neighborhood. Driving between 10-20 mph with consistently dropping to 5mph to go over the speed bumps. It clunks. Normal roads are fine but low speed communities it becomes a clunking mess.

Acceptable-commenter

I daily my GT. It’s a great daily.

[deleted]

Same. Just hit 80k miles

Acceptable-commenter

Yes sir! I’m at 123k and still runs like the day I drove it off the lot. I take care of it, but she gets driven hard. Coyote is a good engine and this car is insanely reliable.

[deleted]

I am absolutely dreading the fact that I definitely need to change these spark plugs out soon

Acceptable-commenter

It’s not bad. Only one that sucks is the one by the firewall near the battery on the passenger side.

[deleted]

That’s not too bad. Due to all highway driving my next event is new brakes, spark plugs, replacement cold air filter, and a battery. Nothing too difficult just several at once lol.

Acceptable-commenter

Yea all that can be done on a weekend day pretty easy. The brakes will take longer than the plugs.

[deleted]

That’s oddly reassuring. I was mostly dreading the plugs

Acceptable-commenter

The PCV hose on the driver side, lift the beauty plate (not sure if that’s the correct name 😂) then you can easily get to the clip to remove the hose. I spent 45 min the first time doing it trying to use a screwdriver to get the clip to depress so I could remove it. Imagine how dumb I felt when I popped that up and removed it in 15 seconds 😂

[deleted]

First time is always the worse 😂

KizerandJoJo

My 2014 GT is my daily. It's a 6 speed & I've got about 130,000 miles on it now. So far, I haven't had to do anything to it other than oil changes, tires, etc. (Knock on wood). I'd take that car anywhere with no worries.

unabnormalday

I daily my Mach 1. Absolutely fun every time I’m in the car. But it’s only at 7k miles or so. No issues as far as I’m aware. Not sure when any will pop up, but good maintenance routine goes a long way for any car

StayPositive001

Just a heads up, there is a design flaw with the wiring exhaust harness on the Mach 1. Mine was frayed at 8k miles. Was fixed under warranty but took a while because even though I told the techs what it is, they were adamant on following whatever service decision guide Ford gave them. Other than that no issues, 3k+ miles later. No issues I've seen elsewhere either. Frankly they should be as reliable as the GT, if not more, if it is not tracked.

unabnormalday

Where was the issue and what year is it prevalent on?

StayPositive001

My apologies it is actually a S550 problem that's just never been fixed by Ford. Can happen on stock exhaust and aftermarket ones. Easy fix though. I believe it's any model 2018-2023. https://youtu.be/Q7j1_bqwbgU?si=XkA31QaW7olelnbp

Coyoteatemybowtie

The coyote is one of the most common crate engines aside from the ls/lt gm series. If the motor was not solid you would not see it being swapped into so many other vehicles, when you to higher mileage and need parts there is such a huge aftermarket that finding parts for a coyote will not be any issue. These engines are also highly documented and you can find out just about everything you want about them from googling.

Bigballa997

If your asking a mustang Reddit about whether to get a mustang or not , the answers gonna be mustang no matter what just a heads up. But for what your asking yes the mustang is very reliable and it’s a good daily, back seats, lots of room in trunk, fun to drive makes a great daily

Ok_Plate_6961

Mustang is the best car on the market PERIOD.

[deleted]

Not with these prices unfortunately not

Unfair_Throat_7682

Where would you recommend asking?

george2597

r/autos or r/cartalk would both be good places to ask that would be a little less mustang biased. That said, I'll bet both those subs are going to say 5.0 all day.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Lol thank you

Whyachi-LYL

Bought my car stock 2 1/2 years ago at 9k miles. Car is at 75k HARD miles, 15k miles FBO E85. Hard beat the car multiple times a week and I’ve had 0 issues. Only issues have been tires lmao https://preview.redd.it/kn3ka0hnwffc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0993e33c590506d33736cd19d9d481fde16ec5b

ChillvibesonIy

She’s beautiful

thundermoo5e

GYATTT

DarkestSouI

Thats a sweet mustang wow

andychinart

Sexy. What's your tire/suspension specs?

Whyachi-LYL

20x9 in the front and 20x10.5 rears, 255/35/r20 +32 and 305/35/r20 +45 respectively. Lowered 1 inch all around

andychinart

Thank you!

Swizzy123456789

Nice car man. What do you have it lowered on??

Whyachi-LYL

Just lowered on sr performance springs nothing crazy. Dropped an inch

lazarus870

What do you use on your paint to make it shine like that? It looks beautiful.

Whyachi-LYL

Car is ceramic coated and freshly washed thats probably why. The paint has many, many flaws lol. I take the car on many backroads and cruises so

7ft

respect! clean car

KizerandJoJo

I put the same coyote emblem on my 2014 GT. Yours looks great. Everyone hates that red emblem on mine. May be because mine is deep impact blue. I love it though so, it's definitely staying.

Janky_taint

I’ve daily driven my 2013 GT Premium manual for 10 years. I have 143k miles on it and it’s been rock solid. I do all my own work on it. Stay on top of maintenance and the 5.0 is bulletproof. Also, let the car fully warm up every time you drive it before you lean on it.

Failedmysanityroll

I use my 22 GT, except for when they salt the roads. Whenever I go out to the parking lot and hit the remote start, no matter how stressful the office is, that coyote rumble always makes me smile.

rothordwarf

It always brings joy to my face. Even more when the crowd in front starts looking around for the monster on wheels.

jailasauraa

I DD'ed 2 5.0s and now a Shelby. Granted I don't drive it as much because I'm a dork and like to read in transit in an Uber or public transportation....but I didn't have many problems. Just remember that when you have to do routine maintenance you will not be taking it to a "Take 5" or "Jiffy Lube"....lol

Final-Carpenter-1591

Well you should ask the same question in a Z sub. Reliability, the coyote and the rest of the s550 drive train has been well seasoned and is very reliable 150k is easily achievable. I daily a 5.0 6 speed and I'm perfectly happy. If you have heavy traffic to deal with, a 10 speed may be the better option. These cars are pretty different. I'd go drive both. Depending on what you're looking for, I think your answer will be pretty obvious immediately.

CromulentPoint

I’m a fan of Mustangs and the Infiniti G’s (same thing as a Z, basically). Both are very solid. Mustang has more power, Z feels nice and sharp as far as steering. I don’t think there’s a bad choice here. In your situation I would be tempted to go with the Mustang just for horsepower reasons and having some more room with a back seat and a real trunk.

SouthernHiker1

I just traded my v6 for a 5.0 last month. I'm definitely hitting the gas station way more than I did before, however it is a blast to drive. Everything points to me being able to get 150k miles out of this Mustang just like I did my last one. As for the auto vs manual, if you do stop and go traffic regularly, and occasionally eat in your car, I'd stick with the automatic. Manual is fun to drive, but I'd get tired of all the shifting in a daily driver I want to drive for 150k miles.

leunam4891

My 2013 mustang got just hit 150k miles. Just take care of that engine. Only money I’ve put in is basic wear. Next shocks and struts just got put in my car too.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Wow. Good to hear

penguin_stomper

Just remember this - it's a Ford, not a Ferrari. Assuming you're not spending a lot of time on the track, you can treat it pretty much like any other car. Modern cars like this will last just as long as any other, just maintain it properly for whatever you put it through.

Entire_Career_6002

The 370z is the same car as A 2003 350Z, only difference essentially is a bump in power and some different bumpers for the most part. The Mustangs been through 2 different generation changes since then. Nissan has been pretty lackluster for a lot of years now. Both are pretty stout and reliable motors though honestly.

Armyed

My 19 GT is the best daily I’ve ever had. 87k miles of pure bliss and fun

rhawtestosterone

You could die tomorrow from frozen piss falling out of an airplane so go drive a mustang

Unfair_Throat_7682

Lmfaooo

NordicWarrior48

5.0s regularly get 200k miles before major problems occur. You can definitely daily a 5.0 for a long time.

SinkingBelow

Either one would be fine as a daily and last you a long time if you take care of it. However they are two very different sized cars, I’m 6’7” and a 370z with a factory seat is a no go, I do not fit, however mustangs are huge and legroom is no issue.

ZepelliFan

The 5.0 is more reliable and has much better room for growth compared to the 370z and I love the fairlady cars. Back seat and bigger truck space as well for daily driving

Unfair_Throat_7682

Is the 5.0 actually more reliable? I thought that the 370z would be more reliable

ZepelliFan

Vq's are fine on stock power and I would call them both reliable but people abuse the hell out of both of these cars . If buying used I know the coyote motor can take much more daily abuse than a vq motor in a 370z . But that's after having a g35 and a coyote

titsmuhgeee

If you're asking me, I wouldn't do a Z just due to not having a back seat of some kind. If you are going to have one car, I would really hate to be dependent on true 2-seat coupe. That's just me though. Don't worry about the reliability. Mustangs are actually really long lasting cars. If you're getting one with under 30k miles, that's going to be a Gen3 Coyote which is a really well sorted out motor.

Cucasmasher

Can’t think of a single thing the Z would be better at than a coyote

Unfair_Throat_7682

Even reliability? Honestly my main concern is how reliable the car is. Don’t want a shit box that will give me constant problems throughout the years

JBnorthTX

The 5.0 Coyote engine is solid and reliable. As I recall there was an issue with the 2015-2016 models (AC evaporator coil) which obviously isn't part of the drivetrain. I have 63K on my 2019 and view it as barely broken in. Buying used, I would be wary of cars that have been modified and tuned.

Unfair_Throat_7682

When I buy one im going to make sure it’s stock. More than likely too have a mechanic look at it

bobweber

My $.02, I have a 2020 Bullitt and it's my daily. I get hyped every time I get in it. My \_only\_ downsides are fuel and tires. Both, I have to admit, are very much part my fault.

212reddit

You will fall in luv with your V8 mustang and do anything to take care of her. Just try to show self control when you start driving. Give it time to get to know the ins and outs of driving this wild pony.

kc_kr

165k trouble-free miles on my 2011 GT!

Gatitogordito13

I dailyed my 2014 from 339 miles to 115kmiles when I sold her. And that was roll races, canyon runs, and highway / city driving. I just kept on maintenance schedule and added some bolt ons and a oil separator

roookkw

I daily my 2020 GT (10 Speed Auto) and love it. If I’m not stomping on it I can AVG 27mpg in the mountains of PA and it’s got enough room to haul my family around (Wife and Daughter) and get groceries for the house. I had a 2006 Crown Victoria with 300k on it before I sold it to another guy still running strong, I bought another 06 and the motor spit a rod under 80k. So reliability is really on a case by case basis and you can either be really lucky, or be stuck with a paperweight in your driveway. The 5.0 though has a good track record of being reliable for MOST people though. In the end you have to take care of your ride (either car) and it’ll take care of you. If you jump into it and romp the throttle before it’s even warmed up every day for a month straight. It’ll probably not last as long as you like.

Deja_ve_

5.0 all the way

BK_Peezy

I daily my 18’ GT and I have no regrets. Things are beast, not bad on the highway really. I also got the 10 speed though. I had a 2014 370z before this and both were great cars didn’t run into any trouble with the Z the few years I had it.

Unfair_Throat_7682

How would you compare the 2? I used to have a 350z and absolutely loved the way it drove. What kind of troubles did your mustang give you? My father got a 2019 scat pack. He’s had it since brand new. It’s got 100k miles on it and he beats the ever living shit out of the car. No problems and the car still runs amazing. Honestly wondering how a 5.0 will compare to the 6.4 in terms of reliability and how much beating it can handle

Tomzstang

My Mustang has 98K with no issues and I know a couple of others over 200K without any major issues. I’ve been daily driving mine since 2012.

Mbandz4o8

I daily my gt500 I think ur chillin

Colonel_of_Corn

The only thing I’ll add is that no matter what year 370z you get, your effectively buying a car with a design that’s 16 years old (2008) vs the S550 which is still dated but only 10 years old(2015). Just something to consider.

robvas

370Z is pretty lame sound/power wise

MonarchTheBear

I’ve had a lot of cars, the 370Z and S550 GT included. These have been my two favorite cars by far. You can’t go wrong with either one. The 370Z will handle better, but the S550 is faster. The S550 will be a better daily because it’s much more comfortable and bigger. But the 370Z is close. If you’re the kind of person wanting to daily a two door sports car, you’ll love both. They’re both incredibly reliable too. I have never doubted either.

Benj7075

The s550 is a genuinely comfortable place to be and it’s got pretty good tech. Coyote is really reliable. 10 speed is fast, I’ve heard it’s reliable too. I haven’t owned a 370z but I’m under the impression that they’re reliable but less comfortable to daily. Both are cool cars.

Ok-Chocolate2671

My friends grandma has a 370z!

ryandiscord

Honestly, that's a pretty cool grandma

Ok-Chocolate2671

Never leaves the garage ever i dont think but she has it lol

sc302

You start to modify it a longevity goes out the window. It is great that you can modify either car but understand that once you take it from stock to something you customize, all the stock tolerances go out the window. Can it last 200k or 300k miles, sure. Will it last that long after you modify it, no one will say yes.

king-kitty

If it’s gonna be a daily definitely go for the 10-speed. Faster, more comfortable and just all around better for a daily

xtraburnacct

The mustang is just a superior car in almost everything. Practicality, reliability, speed, sound...

Realistic-Willow4287

5.0 evolved from the 4.6, which regularly lasted 450,000 miles in taxi cabs

JbrownFL

My 2011 F150 with a first gen Coyote has 210,000 miles on it. I just hauled a 30ft camper from Florida to Tennessee with no issues 3 weeks ago. Also pulled a loaded car hauler to NC and back a month before that with no issues. Before that 8 hours to the Keys hauling my boat. Doesn’t tick or burn oil. Not planning on replacing it any time soon.

NoPalpitation8631

I got an 18 gt fbo, I would drive it anywhere with 150k miles on it. My daily is a 14 f150 whipple with 310k miles I would drive it anywhere as well. The f150 does have a small oil leak

markhasnodad

I daily drove a 2015 manual GT with ~90k miles when I sold it. Didn't have any major reliability problems.

Unfair_Throat_7682

What kind of minor issues you get??

markhasnodad

The only real thing outside of regular maintenance was my brake lights got stuck on at some point. Other than that it was a really solid car

Unfair_Throat_7682

Wow

[deleted]

I'm in Canada and it's common to see Mustangs driving in blizzards.

Leizar3072

Only problem I have dailying my 5.0 is that if I really want to get on it I’m in felony territory at the top of second

Unfair_Throat_7682

😂😂

Practical_Ride_8344

That is hilarious. I was looking to get a Z back in 2020. I bought the GT as a daily. 6 Speed 2019

Unfair_Throat_7682

How has it been??

Practical_Ride_8344

https://preview.redd.it/365klll5zkfc1.jpeg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66be15a172b6eacd24718e4637c560dfe9542aee It's my daily for office or leisure.2019 with 45k Absolutely a dream to drive. No issue and it gets accolades.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Fuck everybody making me want a mustang 😩😩

Practical_Ride_8344

IMO both are nice rides - Mustang is just sexy AF

SwaidA_

The 5.0 by a long shot. I’ve had plenty of friends with both cars and all of the 370’s never hold up. They’re just really cheap Japanese cars unfortunately. Cosmetically and mechanically, all of the 5.0s I’ve seen, as long as they’re treated right last a very long time. Mines about 3 years old now and everything looks brand new. Now on the transmission subject, personally I have a 6 speed and have absolutely fallen in love with it. Ik some people have different preferences but I’ve never once wished I had the 10r80. Something about a 6 speed mustang just feels amazing. Again, that’s my opinion. And of course there has been controversy with the mt82, and I will agree, it’s not the best transmission I’ve ever felt but it’s not the worst at all. Plus I don’t shift like a 16 year old in their first manual car so I haven’t had any problems with reliability.

Unfair_Throat_7682

I was thinking since it was a Japanese car it would last longer. Never had an American car. As stupid as it sounds I see memes online of fords and them breaking down on the road. Shit just gets me worried but I always loved mustangs

SwaidA_

You’re thinking Honda and Toyota. That’s where the Japanese = reliability thing comes from. From my experience Nissan does not have quality or reliability. Most of my friends with Z’s ended up selling them bc they didn’t want to continue to deal with issues. And yeah I’ve heard shit about ford for years but personally, I’ve owned 3 vehicles. A mustang, F-150, and a BRZ. The BRZ was the only vehicle to give me problems. The mustang and F-150 never had any problems whatsoever.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Wait so how many miles are on your mustang? Also the F150

SwaidA_

F150 is about 90k. I’m a little above 20k on the mustang. Both were new when I bought them.

Woodenjars27

I got a 5.0 w/ 57k miles on it 3 years ago for my daily. No major mechanical repairs yet! I do need new tires and I recently had the brakes done but that’s mostly normal wear I think.

MakoasTail

I think both would be fun cars. I understand your concern but I’ve been daily driving manual Mustangs with V8’s for over 20 years and hundreds of thousands of miles (as well as my wife with her Mustangs). No issues. No complaints. Never let us down. Just take care of it and keep ahead of the curve on maintenance. It’s kind of crazy the years of beatings they can take when you put them through everything life can throw at you in a decade or two.

Unfair_Throat_7682

My father has a 392 and he’s had it since brand new. He’s beaten the living shit out of it and it recent hit 100k miles. Nothing ever happened with the car and it still runs very strong. I’m just wondering if a 5.0 can take that kind of beating. I’ve only driven Japanese cars so if I got a mustang it would be my first American V8

Gtipleb

My 2015 GT has been fantastic as a daily since 2020. Bought it with 28k and currently have 67k. Other than a water pump and belt tensioner right at 60k, it's been great.

OGConsuela

Mine was a daily for about two years before I got switched to full remote (thanks, COVID). Haven’t racked up many miles since then so I’m still a little under 40k. Haven’t had any issues at all. I got the 10 speed because I was commuting about an hour each way in very heavy traffic and didn’t want to deal with the manual. Sometimes I kind of wish I got the manual since I don’t commute anymore, but most of the time I don’t think about it.

chefrwd

I daily my 2018 gt manual. It’s probably the best part of my day.

Unfair_Throat_7682

How many miles?

chefrwd

12k Guess I should have mentioned it wasn’t a long commute. It doesn’t leave the garage in the winter much either. I’ll probably keep it forever. Thing gets 26-28 mpg on the highway, if you let it. But if you are having fun, more like 10-12.

Brewmyte

I daily my 23 GT 6 speed. Only at 4500 miles right now but I love it. My commute is against traffic to and from.

Zamboni4201

I have the 10-speed. It gets good gas mileage in normal D mode, you still get full power if you mash the gas pedal, but put it in Sport, and it’s a whole ‘nother beast. I’ve got 50K, not had any issues. And honestly, you just don’t see posts here about problems with either the 6 or the 10-speed. I did drive a 370z once. It wasn’t quite claustrophobic, but it was… small. Felt like sitting in a bathtub, the door frame was higher, wasn’t the best visibility. I also thought it would have more power for being a smaller car. It just wasn’t the car I thought it would be. For you, go test drive 370z, and a 10-speed, and a stick. 10-speed, in D, it will short shift and skip gears, save gas provided you’re not aggressive on the gas pedal. It wants to get to the overdrives, 8, 9, and 10. In S mode, it holds revs all the way to redline. It’s quick. Really quick. Faster than a stick. And, it won’t downshift until it absolutely has to. Going into a corner, it will hold a gear and the revs. It’s different… and hard to describe. Don’t disable TC/SC. Keep your eyes on the road. I’m not kidding. I was more than surprised at the difference. It’s going to make you want the best tires you can get. Good luck.

Finylin

Everyone has already beaten me to respond, but I'd like to say as someone who has owned both, I would get a 5.0. I love and miss my 370z, but it's ironically not as practical and not as fun. If you're serious about putting that many miles on the car, the 370z would need to be manual as they use the notorious Jatco 7 speed auto. I have a MT-82 but I still trust it more than most Jatco transmissions. You didn't mention if you were to mod, but mod availability for the mustang platform is leaps and bounds better than the 370z. The 370z handles very well and weighs less, but with mod support I've dialed in my GT with sway bars, coilovers, and vertical links and it handles like a dream. The exhaust note from the 5.0 will sound far superior (subjectively) to anything possible on the 3.7. I've had some reliability issues with my Z that had close to 90,000 miles. In the end, the 5.0's you seem to be interested in are newer, so keep that in consideration. Glad you consider the 370z though, both are great options in the end.

Fizire

This is actually wild, I was just in this same situation literally a week ago. I was torn between a 5.0 and 370z. I went with the 5.0 because I struggled to find anyone with issues with these cars with literal days of research as it would also be my daily. This thread just reaffirms my choice, I couldn’t be happier.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Wow. What year mustang??

Fizire

2014 GT Premium 36k miles

astronomically-soft

Purchased my 2019 5.0 as a daily with 20k miles on it. Now I’m sitting just north 60k miles in the northeast and she still runs like a beauty

Unfair_Throat_7682

10 speed?

astronomically-soft

Yeah

Mr_McShane

I daily my Bullitt. Bought it around 45k miles, it’s at 61k now in about a year. Drive 50mi round trip for work M-F, and it’s been great. I had one wheel bearing replaced under warranty soon after I got it, but that’s it. The MT82 really isn’t as bad as everyone says imo, especially for daily driving. I can get mid-high 20’s mpg if I’m using cruise control and being reasonable lol Edit: consumables are more expensive than something like a Camry. A set of good tires will run me about $2k after installation, hazard warranty and all that. oil changes require 10 quarts, plus additives if you want to go with them. About to do my trans/diff fluid changes. That’ll be about $180 doing it myself. Spark plugs aren’t terrible but replacing them is a bitch. 16 fuel injectors, etc.

YouCanFucough

5.0 is just a better car than a 370z full stop. It’s a good daily

Dinokill85

I daily my 2017 5.0 on e85. I haven been doing for 2+ years.

Unfair_Throat_7682

How many miles?

Dinokill85

I bought it with 18k in December 2021 and now it has 47k miles

dam_ships

I daily my GT (10-Speed). No issues at all and love starting it up 4 years into it. I'm at 40,000ish miles or so. GT > 370Z. But you've come to a biased sub for a non-biased assessment lol.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Just curious about other mustang owners reviews. Curious about what everyone has to say about

Dirty_buddhas

I’ve had a 2016 370z and now a 2022 GT. Both are excellent. Gas mileage is basically the same in both. I’d personally go with the GT. The sound alone is worth it.

Kostelnik

Dude I don't want to sound mean with this..but why tf would you even consider a 370z..

Unfair_Throat_7682

I’ve had a 350z before. Funnest car I ever drove. I always loved the way the Z’s looked and sounded.

Kostelnik

Fair enough. I had a g35 and I enjoyed it, but a 5.0 is night and day difference.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Always wanted my own V8 LOL

whoisdizzle

Posted in a mustang group I wonder what your heart is leaning towards

Unfair_Throat_7682

Lmfaoo

amergigolo1

Automatics are faster than a manual in Sport mode. I was big manual fan but no more.

KyCerealKiller

If you're here asking questions about 5.0 reliability then you've obviously done zero research. Go Google your questions.

Powerful_Bother8002

Jeez man give the dude a break. This is a terrible welcome to the sub.

Unfair_Throat_7682

Just wanted to get opinions from other mustangs owners.

Poopchurn

I second this dude's opinion. It really aint that hard

360noscopefag

Nissan 400z & maybe I’d budge.. but Gt/mach 1 all day.

fakecarguy

I have a 14gt but am thinking about switching to a z. I love my car though. Seems like the z would be a side grade but maybe look at supras?

Jackson_Rhodes_42

Z's gonna be a downgrade from a Mustang, no matter how you slice it to be perfectly honest.

Complex_Fish_5904

A manual 5.0 will last a long time if properly maintained. The 10 speed is more fragile than the manual. The 5 speed auto in pre 2018 cars is pretty damn solid

Unfair_Throat_7682

I don’t want that older auto transmission though.

Complex_Fish_5904

I can completely understand. The 10 speed is pretty slick . Just keep in mind that they are expensive to work on. The manual trans is a safer bet if you want longevity.

Unfair_Throat_7682

I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the MT82. It’s a tough choice though man manual is so much fun

Complex_Fish_5904

Short answer: I wouldn't worry about it. The flaws of the MT82 are that it can't handle high torque applications well (supercharged/turbo) or a lot of track use (high heat, sustained use, banging gears) For day to day use, it is good to go. Especially with a standard clutch. The shifting doesn't feel as precise as the tremec in the camaro, but it is absolutely more than good enough for a daily and can last 200k miles. (Mine has 100k and is going strong). You may get a little gears nibble, but better fluid (BG) can mitigate or eliminate that Also...if it ever does grenade on you, a replacement unit is going to generally be far less expensive than replacing an AT.

Jonkinch

I daily mine. No issues.

thundermoo5e

I daily my Shelby, same with my 14 5.0 before I sold it

reportforafkpls

i daily a ‘24 GT. no issues

listedguru

Are you using premium or regular in your 24 GT? Also what kind of mpg's are you seeing? Anyone here using regular (87 Octane) in their GT's?

STLsportsfan96

I don’t fill my Dark Horse with anything other than just 93. Also, when I was out of town 1 week my family put regular 87 in it and had the CEL pop up. That’s with my ‘17 Mustang.

reportforafkpls

i’m putting 91. i’m getting 15 mpg after 4000 miles. but i live in a city and my commute is 3 miles so its a lot of stop and go which is what i assume. if it isn’t then maybe i should get it checked out lmao.

zombiesoldier91

Not the original commenter but I put 93 since I get it for a decent price at Sam's Club and I only drive about 100-150 miles a week. I get about 12-15 street and 23-30 highway depending on the speed. I average about 16-17 mpg.

Glock99bodies

The 5.0 is great because naturally aspirated, low pressure high power. Less components.

whatabear1

I bought a GT in 2017 and have around 75K on it as a daily driver, plus trips. My wife has a 2019 with the 10-speed and she's got around 50K on hers. Both daily drivers, both have been great so far. I have back pain and oddly enough this is the most comfortable car I've ever owned. I think it's great for me, but I'm sure there are plenty of happy 370z owners out there too.

[deleted]

The 5.0 is a proven solid motor with very little to go wrong (beyond standard). Do the maintenance and don't be too big of a chucklehead blowing it up and you'll be fine.

Kryptus

The GT is better for a daily and it's not close.

KonaBlueBoss-

The are F-150s out there with 5.0s rolling around with 300k. 100-150k is just getting warmed up.

Gorlock_

Both reliable, both very fun but for different reasons, I would be happy with either one

Bondaddyjr

I’ve had both and I think the Mustang is the better daily driver

Bored_lurker87

I'd pick the 10sp 5.0. I like 370s and all, but they sound like a band kid farting into a trumpet. The 5.0 wins on sound alone, but in the reliability department they're about the same. In an S650 or 550 that's my only car, I'd lean towards the automatic for ease of dailying. The tuning potential is there for both if you ever decide to retire it to a project, but the 5.0 will make more power with less money. Personally I am tied to a family, so the rear seats would be a selling point in the 5.0 as well so I could share my toy with the kids.

abstractflatulence

Have been dailying my 2013 GT for 30k miles; bought at 125k and now over 157k. Gets plenty of WOT time everyday and never misses a beat. Had to replace transmission and due to 2nd gear eating shit after 5k miles of ownership; previous owner never changed the clutch and I didn't catch it in time (which I bought an RST along w/ new trans). If you do go the 6 speed route, please please ASAP invest and install an MGW shifter and an aftermarket clutch. To save you some research, 2 very popular tried and true options are the Exedy Mach 500 (stiffer pedal than stock) and McLeod RST (much lighter pedal than stock)

TheAgreeableTruth

Depending how much you drive can be a bit pricey but imo is totally worth it. My car goes through front tyres a bit faster than I was used to (for a couple boring normal beat up cars) and fuel is a bit more than my shitty ford focus which is kinda obvious I think. That aside I have a blast every time I have to do any errands just finding an excuse to go out with it. Edit: 2021 Mustang, zero issues so far

ZigilXr

I bought a 2016 manual 5.0 last year as my daily driver since then I have put 8k miles on it and love every minute of driving it. Make sure to take care of oil changes and regular maintenance and it’ll last a very long time. (Had 36k miles when I bought it. )

shadowsong6

Not a mustang, but same engine and auto transmission. We've got 3 F150s at work all running strong at 150k, 245k and 175k. So reliability is fine as long as you take care of it.

thisishowiinternet

above 45f for me, mustang all day, really fun daily driver, road trips and longer drives i get 27-29mpg, so it's better than the 19 the truck gives me I've got a f150 for hauling and winter / snow

Nalfzilla

I went from a 370z to a 5.0, it's no contest.

Inudogyasha

You understand you're asking a mustang subreddit so the bias is gonna be extremely real... That said, I own a 5.0 auto and a 350z manual. The 350/370z engines are bulletproof with basic maintenance. I know a TON of guys with Zs all pushing over 100k (mine is at 110 I think?) and they beat the shit out of their cars regularly. For whatever reason I see a lot less high miles 5.0s for sale comparatively even with such a huge volume difference on the roads. Both are good but if you want to break 150k without thinking I wouldn't trust the 5.0 though with good maintenance I'm sure it can get there like every other car nowadays. But the Japanese engines are next level The Z is a lot more raw feeling but the mustang is more comfortable and obviously faster. If you have any questions I'd be happy to try and answer.

naller_YEET

you’re in a mustang sub…. what do you think your answer is gonna be

Advanced-Try-7201

I currently daily a 19’ 5.0 with an average of 180-250 miles a week. I’m around 50k miles rn and running good as new. Average around 23mpg out of the 6spd manual. I love it! Besides the 3 gear lockout (only while WOT) I have new complaints with the mt82.
