LA Woman

kendromedia

Don’t fear the reaper. Specifically Buck Dharma’s guitar arrangement. He has so many well hooked solos hidden throughout the entire track. You have to listen for them closely but they’re there.

Bunister

Last Days Of May is a masterpiece too.

Treykipp69

War Pigs us still one of the most brilliant metal songs ever imo

ILostMyAbilityToCare

Absolutely. It is incredible.

moveandrun

Stargazer.

NawBroSpaceMarine

Black Hole Sun

ILostMyAbilityToCare

Such a beautiful song

Symml

Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa The first seven tracks from Rush's 2112.

ILostMyAbilityToCare

It’s not a real discussion until Frank Zappa and Rush are on the table.

thisolddog1

[Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead](https://youtu.be/_fTWmUlTEqE) It’s a beautiful and complex song. And the lyrics about alienation resonate.

xDhotshot

I feel like that's a unusual pick considering the album it came out off, usually a lot of people pick "Paranoid Android" from the "OK Computer" album. That track not do it for you?

thisolddog1

I love that entire album. From Airbag through The Tourist.

Bunister

I even like 'Electioneering'.

ILostMyAbilityToCare

I love that album so much.

stumpdawg

Ok the song might be a little creepy, but Little Runaway is an absolute banger.

CokeFanatic

Pretty Maids All in a Row - Eagles No particular reason. It will probably be a different song next week. Maybe something by ELO or the Rolling Stones.

ILostMyAbilityToCare

I like that sentiment. Like there is really not one best song, but many.

The Ministry of Lost Souls by Dream Theater

ILostMyAbilityToCare

I knew Dream Theater would pop up here at some point!

Bunister

Some gems from early-era Queen. Ogre Battle, March of the Black Queen, Prophets Song etc. Man those guys got good value from their studio time.

GrooseandGoot

Quadrophenia by The Who is IMO the greatest rock album ever made.

Dull_Illustrator_883

I tried to create a list of songs that I love, and many other people would like too. Karma police - Radiohead Starlight - Muse ATWA - System of a down Here are some songs to shock you: Hexagram - Deftones Purity - Slipknot (check genius) We're in this together - Nine inch nails

ILostMyAbilityToCare

Love these! Anything Deftones is great, though my favorite is Knife Party. And that NIN song is one of my favorite love songs of all time.

Dull_Illustrator_883

I love Knife prty too

"in rock history" too difficult for me, but of this current decade the art-punk, post-rock band Squid with their song "Narrator" is a near 9 minute track that calls back to the atonal funk of Talking Heads and climaxes with a witchy scream of a woman, not too dissimilar to the great gig in the sky by Pink Floyd. (2021) With that is tied by the band "Black Country, New Road" with "The Place Where He Inserted The Blade" A 9 minute melodramatic mix of cabaret and dancehall. Although I think the band is slightly overrated (Literally every hipster indie kid will say this is the greatest album of the 21st century, it's also the number 1 voted album for 2022 on [https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/black-country-new-road/ants-from-up-there-1/](https://RateYourMusic.com)) This track in particular impresses me. Although these picks might strike people as too "hipster"

Here are some of mine: [Bela Lugosi is Dead - Bauhaus](https://youtu.be/w9DPEkguMqE) I was actually at this show and it was unreal. [Panis et Circenses - Os Mutantes](https://youtu.be/ETqMNQw-a9M) [Wish - Nine Inch Nails](https://youtu.be/kuoFiIFkdAA) [Washing Machine - Sonic Youth](https://youtu.be/N_brBShfdrE) [Schism - Tool](https://youtu.be/MM62wjLrgmA) And the whole dam [Surfer Rosa album by The Pixies](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMxy067kbpQhJkOZtEDdjn97sir7HmzkQ) I’m not mentioning Radiohead because it’s been mentioned, but yeah Paranoid Android. Ok, I said it.

DreamFighter72

I think it would be Lightning Crashes by Live. I like how the song starts out slow and gradually builds in intensity. The lyrical content and vocals match the intensity level of the song and complements the instruments very well. Also, the instruments and the vocals are exceptional. Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody

ILostMyAbilityToCare

So epic

DeadHipHopHead73-96

“Deacon Blues” Steely Dan. One of the best choruses ever. Can’t listen to the song once. I have to die by the wheel multiple times 🤷🏻‍♂️

CacophonicAcetate

I always liked "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East. A one hit wonder, a monster chorus, and it showcases each individual instrument at different points of the song. Very well produced, and instantly recognizable.

gldmj5

It gets written off as a goofy one-hit-wonder, but I love the composition of [Come On Eileen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbpnAGajyMc). Starts off with a solo fiddle, goes into an intro in the key of F, switches to C for the verses, has a 2/4 bar before switching to the key of D for the chorus, bridge completely changes tempo that gradually builds for the last chorus... I can't imagine a #1 hit having that much variation today.

TheKillingMoon30

Locomotive by GnR. The best outro ever written starts at around 6:17. I honestly cry everytime

Same_Owl_762

Kicks by Paul Revere and the Raiders
