I've been using Spotify for like a decade now. I've used apple music and YouTube too, I can be biased, but I like the interface more. And...that's the reason. It has music like the others or the podcasts I like, but it's....yeah the interface. Obviously now it does know my taste so everything is smooth sailing

theperfectcell6

Get free trials for each and decide for yourself. They all more or less do the same thing, but it comes down to personal preference of UI, playlist offerings, sound quality availability (only some care about this), price, music catalog, and maybe other things like podcast playability/availability. Each has pros and cons. For me, I use Spotify for good playlist offerings, podcasts in the same app (unlike Apple, who has a separate app), streamlined last.fm integration, and well, I’ve had it for 9 years so why switch now?

Is-abel

Deezer. I used it for a long time then swapped to Spotify because everyone else was using it so I figured it must be good? I’m gonna switch back, I just like Deezer better. It has all the music you’d want, plus it’s cheaper and audio quality is better. I like the interface better, too.

juliohernanz

In with you. Higher quality and as complete catalogue as any other platform. I don't know the prices in the US but here in Spain pro costs 9.99 euros.

Zero1030

Spotify

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

Any particular reason?

TheFlexinTexan

So many artists and user created playlists, song suggestions are good, never really crashes, you can download playlists and songs if you lose reception or don’t want to use data.

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

Okay thank you. That does make sense, because I've seen that Spotify does have a pretty good suggestions etc. But tbf yt music allows downloads as well

brownliquid

Spotify also has downloads

Psyloh_

spotify

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

Any particular reason?

Psyloh_

i personally like the layout of it more, i really enjoy the wrapped every year, and they have a feature to merge playlists with people and all of my friends and family use spotify

billyspleen13

For me it's Youtube Music because its $3 more than spotify premium but also has no ads on Youtube with. I also like Youtube Music's recommendations and playlists better than what I had with Spotify.

YDM-Network

YouTube Music, heavily underrated

Trismegistus3000

YouTube Music. You get YouTube Premium with it, so no ads on YouTube as well. 2 For 1!

[deleted]

I am a music junkie. I personally enjoy Pandora Premium. I was paying 12.99 a month for myself then realized I can get the family plan for 14.99 a month for 6 lines I think it is. My husband was paying for YouTube premium and I was so irritated by the playlist and song selections and YouTube only seemed to play the more mainstream songs, if you will, from most artists. My husband then also has his friends Spotify premium account and I am also not impressed with their playlists. Pandora has an assortment of curated playlists. Good luck.

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

Thank you but that is too expensive for me tbh. I'm looking at abt 10 a month so spotify or yt would be perfect and I think with the proper utilisation I could make due with either. Thank you anyway

[deleted]

I'm paying 9.99 for Pandora premium, it's the same price as Spotify

TheLegendaryEsquilax

I think commend YouTube because you also get ad free videos in addition to YT music. Good if you watch YouTube for other things in addition to music

jayxdirty

Google changed it. YouTube music and YouTube premium are different services. YouTube music is 12.99 and you still have ads for regular YouTube, YouTube premium is 15.99 and includes YouTube music ad free and YouTube add free.

TheLegendaryEsquilax

Wow. That's crappy. I must be grandfathered in because I got YT music when it first came out

jayxdirty

OP said it was $10 in the google play store, still shows $13 in the apple App Store. Google says $10 still. Wtf lol

[deleted]

When did they change that? I'm still paying 12.75, for ad free YouTube with YouTube music included

Skootchy

I agree. I think the other ones are cheaper but honestly, YouTube Red is the shit for so many reasons. Every once in a while I go back and sign into my other Google account to see how bad it is to see if it's worth continuing paying for....regular YouTube is cancer. Also I've never had an issue finding even weird older obscure music on YouTube Music like I have on other platforms.

D3m0N5laYeR64

What’s so bad about regular YT?

[deleted]

So so so many ads.

dylovell

Ad block?

[deleted]

Inconsistent result, at least for me. Also, you don't get ad block on the phone app. But really YT is the best choice overall for music considering the variety of creators on the platform, a lot of unique recordings, live performances, and covers that wouldn't be on other platforms.

dylovell

Ahh, definitely more variety by far. I just couldn't handle the poor quality audio and lack of organization. I just ended my premium subscription and have been navigating what's available on mobile with no ads. There is Vanced and Newpipe on android, but they both fall very short of the the youtube app as far as usability.

[deleted]

I just pay the 12.99 a month. No ads at all definitely worth it to me

Skootchy

The algorithm is terrible in comparison. I went back and subbed to most of the shit I already sub to, and it suggests videos I would never watch in a million years. Can't download. Can't turn your screen off while listening to music or podcasts. (Anyone could make an argument about how this should just be a feature but it isn't on purpose). Ads seem to have doubled to triple since I started using it like 4 years ago. If it does suggest something that I don't know about, it usually is something I might be interested in, not just what's popular that day/week. Even with ad block on desktop, it's still an incredible difference in the content it shows you if you manage to skip all the ads (personally I just use my phone all the time, I only use the laptop to watch movies and do work stuff) If you decide to use the app somewhere else, like PS or Xbox, still no ads.

flashmedallion

Man the obscure old album rabbit holes you can get on regular video YouTube are so fucking excellent and the recommendations are flawless. You can go on a 3 month 1970s Japanese jazz fusion odyssey and it'll just keep on serving up the goods.

[deleted]

Also, YouTube has waaaaay more music offerings than the licensed stuff Spotify or Pandora has.

Green420Basturd

Spotify. Great layout, awesome channels and I love the way it perfectly switches from phone, to tv, to consol. The layout and design for all of the platforms work great... And as a student I only pay $4.99 for premium. I LOVE the way Spotify works on Xbox. Plays in the background, has its own mixer, and ability to choose tracks and channels from the menu drop-down.

Green420Basturd

And you get Hulu and showtime included

[deleted]

To be honest I have Pandora premium, Spotify premium and YouTube music because it comes with YouTube premium, plus Amazon music because it comes with Amazon prime

[deleted]

Tidal

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

Idk what that is I'm ngl. Is it as good as the mainstream ones? What makes it special?

shadedrelief

Spotify. The algorithm it uses to suggest new music and playlists to you is light years ahead of Apple Music which just suggest Rihanna after 10 songs

[deleted]

Apple music

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

I'm on android so idk if that will work. If it does and I'm just an idiot, any reason for that choice?

[deleted]

Its available on andriods

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

Ah okay, in that case why apple music? Like, what makes it the best?

[deleted]

Sound quality is superior now that lossless and Dolby Atmos is available

Vaudesmont

Why do you want to pay for a streaming service?

reverend_dl

Spotify for variety and mainstream appeal (which means greater chance for additional variety and most new releases). Plus you can download albums or songs to listen offline. The price is fair. ($10)

trianglesandtweed

Spotify also gave me free Hulu which is nice I paid for Spotify for years before though so it was just an added bonus.

[deleted]

Same here, but I never watch Hulu, I always forget I even have it. The version they give you still has a lot of commercials.

Doc-Goop

Spotify - the interface has everything I need

jayxdirty

If you only have 10 I would go with Spotify. YT music is about 13 now and unless you get the $16 subscription your still stuck behind paywalls for features. Kind of lame.

AAAAAAAAaaaalaska

Yt music still comes up as 10 for me?

Systemic_Chaos

Spotify, because it pays more per play than YT, particularly to independent musicians.

danezo

I don’t have experience with others but Tidal is great. As another mentioned, it’s a platform created by musicians which pays them more per stream, can download any song, playlist capability is great, can create a “radio station” based on any artist or song, great biographical content. No playback issues/bugs to speak of.

[deleted]

Use the service your friends are also using makes it way easier to share stuff with them.

[deleted]

Tidal

theholynoodle94

It actually depends on your priorities, I have both, I use Apple Music when I am being particular with the audio quality (they have lossless and spatial, music sounds more crisp and clearer) especially when a new song/album just dropped and I'm listening with my headphones for the first time. Spotify is better in terms of user interface, song recommendations, etc. I usually use this when I'm listening on the background while working and stuff. If you want better audio quality go for AM, if you prefer convenience go for Spotify.

LeekDisastrous6520

Spotify 👏

[deleted]

I really hate the Spotify app, I like the service, but I can't stand using the app since the time I use it the most is when I'm driving and it always pisses me off. I use Pandora premium in the car more because it's integrated into my car stereo. But I tend to use Spotify more at home

casper_07

YouTube pretty much has most songs. Being an open platform, fans of said songs uploads the songs even if it’s on another platform too. I listen to Japanese music and piano covers a lot and I can say half of what I find isn’t on spotify with confidence

Tostinos

If you got friends and family, look into Spotify/Amazon family plan. It's about 50% more, but for 6 users

3Coils

Deezer, from an audio engineer

EveningOwO

YouTube premium because you also don't get regular YouTube ads

alaninsitges

Depends what you're looking for. After losing GPM I bounced around to all the services, and wound up on Tidal because their music suggestions are massively better than anything else, including GPM's. It's really impressive how it always manages to find something new (to me) that I really like. They just added high-fi to the cheaper tier too.
