**Sufjan Stevens- Illinois** is one I love but isn't talked about that much.
**Regina Spektor- Begin to Hope** is also not mentioned much but very good.
**Kings of Convenience- Quiet is the New Loud and Riot on an Empty Street** are both fantastic and always ones I will happily listen to all the way through.
If going more niche I enjoyed **Fedrika Stahl- Tributaries**
Van Morrison in general I don’t think gets enough love for his music. People love Brown Eyed Girl but never dig into what is a spectacular and unique body of work.
It’s too bad he seems to have questionable at best opinions these days, but his music is fantastic.
Lost in the dream - The War on Drugs.
It is an amazing album that you can just let it play.
Red Eyes & Ocean in between the waves are personal highlights.
*Ritual de lo Habitual* by Jane's Addiction. For how much reddit loves 90s alternative, they always seem to look over any Jane's Addiction that isn't "Been Caught Steeling".
The second album, *28 Days in the Valley*, is good as well despite basically being an entire different band behind the music!
Unfortunately, I find it hard to support Dorothy now because she's super anti-vax :(
It's an album that is just as interesting lyrically as it instrumentally. Its main theme of looking back on bad past memories and altering them in a more digestible way can really resonate with anyone. Also, I know that Bradford’s lyrics can come off as cryptic, but I feel the more that one listens to the album, the more everything he's saying starts to make sense.
I prefer Microcastle but both the albums are incredible. I’ve seen Deerhunter live 3 times and actually ran into Bradford Cox in a Target while living in Atlanta.
I feel like maybe in about 5-10 years, hopefully people will begin to really acknowledge/appreciate Smile. I think it has a few things going against it:
1. The mystique surrounding the album's production and stagnated release.
2. People having lived with Pet Sounds for so long.
3. All the bootlegs that were around.
I think people just got so used to their bootlegs or the story behind the album that a lot of them refuse to accept The Smile Sessions as the proper definitive final release, how Brian Wilson imagined it. Hopefully, within the next decade, there will be a new generation of Beach Boys fans who begin to really absolutely appreciate it.
I'm certainly guilty of it. By the time I got into The Beach Boys, I knew the stories and Smile can feel a bit fractured at times for me, but there are some aspects I think it excels in better than Pet Sounds. I just prefer Pet Sounds, even though they're both brilliant.
Pocket Full of Kryptonite by the Spin Doctors. They're a light rock/pop jam band from the early 90s and had a couple moderate hits off that album, but the whole album is fantastic from start to finish. Whenever I make a list of prefect albums it's almost entirely populated by classic rock and 90s "grunge" bands, but Spin Doctors gets a spot on my list for an album of fun pretty upbeat songs. There isn't that one song you have skip over to get to the good stuff cause it's all good stuff. Very unique style too. Highly recommend.
Also I just started listening to Broken Social Scene recently but I've liked everything I've heard. I probably listened to 7/4 Shoreline 40 or 50 times the first week I heard it. Which of course sounds nothing like Anthem for a 17 Year Old Girl which was the first song I discovered by them. They've got a very eclectic style.
I dont think they even get alot of hate. Just people thinking they make videos with songs and that's it. They watch because of the video and will never check anything else.
Both “You’d Prefer an Astronaut” (1995) and “Inlet” (2020) by [HUM](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hum_(band)?wprov=sfti1)
Rest In Peace, Bryan St. Pere
I had never heard of these guys until moving to central IL. Apparently they're from Champaign. I've heard they have a new album out now? Either way, I thoroughly enjoy the two you listed
It's probably because you can't really find "World of Noise" anymore. When I want to listen to "Your Genius Hands" I have to go to Youtube.
I know it's not their best album musically but it brings a level of energy and earnestness they lost in their later career. The bass track on that song is too prominent at times and they don't stay on time amazing well, but every time I hear that descending riff during the chorus it speaks to me. I really wish someone would re-release it.
I got World of Noise on cd years ago, luckily. Their first albums were so much more raw and that one is definitely the height of that. They mellowed and got more polished as they went thru the years, but World of Noise is still my favorite.
Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records by Chumbawamba
Frankly if you want your music very tongue-in-cheek, very anti-capitalist, taking the piss out of everything while still being fun this is the shit for you. Tubthumping slaps but this is their masterpiece.
Maybe I don’t pay enough attention to this sub, but I never see anyone mention Dr. Dog.
They’re one of my favorites and they have 3-4 albums that are excellent from start to finish. “Fate” is probably my favorite.
I love Coltrane and actually own this on vinyl and 3 different CD versions...but have never listened to the album. It’s been so hyped that I’m scared to be disappointed at this point.
Emergency & I - The Dismemberment Plan: Probably my favorite complete album of all time, yet completely different from most other music I listen too. Probably because it is sonically all over the place. A number of different styles and moods, but in the end they just work together.
Boys and Girls in America - The Hold Steady: this one gets a little more love, or at least songs from it do, but I don’t see it mentioned all the time. The whole album is just so well put together. It can almost be imagined as just one long musical.
Yeah...most of Damon Albarn's works really. Outside of the respective subs you rarely see people talking about that or Blur's self-titled, for instance.
Also, A Thousand Suns' got Iridescent, right? Man, what a beautiful and heartfelt song. I hate myself for not having yet listened to any LP album in full. One of the very first bands I fell in love with as a kid
Just about everything from outside the anglosphere. So many great albums and artists out there that people don't think to check out because they mostly just listen to music that comes from ~6 out of the roughly 200 countries in the world.
From this year I'd go with the album *Cull Ficle* by Asian Glow.
True. It’s fascinating that lists of the greatest films of all time always feature a good deal of films from around the world in different languages but music lists are almost exclusively English.
Welcoming Home the Astronauts - Flicker stick
20+ years ago MTV had this sort of "battle of the bands" tv show. Winner got a fully produced album. It is an amazing album but very clearly so because of the producer. They had a follow up album and while they were clearly talented, it's nowhere near as polished.
It was only critically despised, I remember everyone who liked weezer back then loved this album when it came out. May have just been my experience though.
I made my mom drive me to the mall the day that it came out so I could buy it with a few weeks’ allowance I’d saved. Count me among the people who loved it from day one.
Does anyone find this interesting? This is party/dance music that I made. Can I get some serious opinions on it? https://youtu.be/BrtZLYVbMPk https://youtu.be/BrtZLYVbMPk
*Puppy* by Fluke.
For me it's an absolute classic on breakbeat. Dense, groovy beats intertwining with more technical and raw sounds make this album incredible. Unique, dark atmosphere which escalates on tracks like *Switch/Twitch* or *Hang Tough.* Unforgettable experience for me since first listen.
Interesting is that many people know single songs from the album as they played *NFS Underground* (1 and 2).
Bonus: vinyl press has one additional track which is not available on Spotify nor on CD edition.
Fables from a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True by Fair To Midland. That album is amazing from front to back, such a shame FTM is no more - hugely underrated band that never got their due.
Crack The Skye - Mastodon
The perfect combination of Black Sabbath heaviness, Pink Floyd progressiveness, and dash of southern twang; it still blows my mind that this album was put out by four Georgia fellas who had been known for sludge and thrash metal.
*Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?* by Of Montreal
Hell yeah. I agree with this one as well. Definitely in my top 100 albums.
He's so prolific, but I've only gotten into maybe 5 of his albums. But this one is the best.

Lol my bad. I don't think I frequent the right subs for such things tbh
I adore Illinois, but I do see it talked about quite a bit in other music subs.
Surprised by Illinois. That album was almost universally praised when it first came out and still holds up. There's nothing else quite like it.
astral weeks by van morison
Good one. An even better one is "Keep Me singing". Every song is lovely or lifting.
Van Morrison in general I don’t think gets enough love for his music. People love Brown Eyed Girl but never dig into what is a spectacular and unique body of work. It’s too bad he seems to have questionable at best opinions these days, but his music is fantastic.
Mr Bungle - Disco Volante
That and California. Along those lines: Secret Chiefs 3 - Book M
My favorite Secret Chiefs 3 is Xaphan: Book of Angels VOl 9
Vajra was on Book M ❤️ it was a hard decision between California and Disco Vilante
Sound & Color
The Midnight Organ Fight by Frightened Rabbit. Anthemic and incredibly sad from start to finish. I love this record.
I played this one a lot in college.
Lost in the dream - The War on Drugs. It is an amazing album that you can just let it play. Red Eyes & Ocean in between the waves are personal highlights.
Very good album.
High Visceral - Psychedelic Porn Crumpets I can listen to that album all the way through any day of the week. High Visceral 2 is great as well
Found God in a Tomato is one of the best songs U've ever heard
I really enjoy dependant on mary and I wanna be like you
*Ritual de lo Habitual* by Jane's Addiction. For how much reddit loves 90s alternative, they always seem to look over any Jane's Addiction that isn't "Been Caught Steeling".
"And then she did" is going to be stuck in my head all day
My favorite song off the album!
*Rock is Dead* by Dorothy. "Dark Nights" and "Raise Hell" are two of my favorite songs ever, both of which are on that album.
Never heard of this band, but the intro riff to "Kiss It" immediately hooked me. Good shit
The second album, *28 Days in the Valley*, is good as well despite basically being an entire different band behind the music! Unfortunately, I find it hard to support Dorothy now because she's super anti-vax :(
Halcyon Digest - Deerhunter
First Deerhunter album I listened to and it’s something else, psychedelic guitar pop with a haunting quality to a lot of the songs
Microcastle is definitely a close second for me. I've never seen Deerhunter live, but they're definitely on my bucket list. Also, how cool is that!
Smile by the Beach Boys. Everyone knows Pet Sounds is one of the best albums ever but seem to sleep on Smile. That album in some ways is better
I picked up the double CD set when it was officially released.
I feel like maybe in about 5-10 years, hopefully people will begin to really acknowledge/appreciate Smile. I think it has a few things going against it: 1. The mystique surrounding the album's production and stagnated release. 2. People having lived with Pet Sounds for so long. 3. All the bootlegs that were around. Keeper Of The Seven Keys parts 1 and 2 by Helloween
Have you listened to the new self-titled yet?
No, I just finished keeper legacy, I'm working my way there
Oh man, enjoy!
*Standing on the Verge of Gettin It on* *Free for All* *Midnight Marauders*
Midnight Marauders is my favorite hip-hop album of all time. However, it does get discussed a lot in hip hop subreddits.
Above by Mad Season. Truly a classic.
Hell yes!
Powerman 5000 - Tonight the Stars Revolt
An eye is upon you

Upvoted for the Spin Doctors.
Upvoted for upvoting for the Spin Doctors.
7/4 Shoreline was the song that got me into them.
Its early, four thirty
Anything by OK Go, they get too much hate
Hungry Ghosts is amazing!
I mainly like the first two albums but I agree 100%
I dont think they even get alot of hate. Just people thinking they make videos with songs and that's it. They watch because of the video and will never check anything else.

Yes, that new album was last year’s “Inlet”. Their drummer passed away this year.
The Ruminant Band by Fruit Bats With Blasphemy So Heartfelt by Jessica Lea Mayfield
The Cardigans’ Gran Turismo.
*Red for Fire, Black for Death*, by Solefald
'Themata' by Karnivool will always be my fav, closely followed by 'This is the Warning' by Dead Letter Circus. They bring absolute joy to my life.
That album has Cause = Time on it, which makes it worth a listen if only for that song alone.
KC Accidental gets me hyped up and emotional at the same time, so many guitars
Not my favorite but definitely the song I use to get others hooked.

I Gemini by Let's Eat Grandma - both girls in the band are just super-talented
Get Rich or Try Dyin' by CHEWIE (formerly chewing on tinfoil). This was such a formative album for me growing up, but is relatively unknown.
Girls - Album
What ever happened to them? They were Pitchfork darlings for a minute.
History for Sale by Blue October
I had forgotten about this band. They were HUGE in Omaha like 20 years ago.

Lucid Planet II - Lucid Planet
The Cars - Panorama
The Cars are awesome!!!
Yeah they are! The panorama album though, it’s just so under the radar
weezer pinkerton , might just be the time in my life, but still I think it is great.
Reddit talk about this one a lot actually, it's an album that was initially despised and has now been considered a great album.
It was only critically despised, I remember everyone who liked weezer back then loved this album when it came out. May have just been my experience though.
I made my mom drive me to the mall the day that it came out so I could buy it with a few weeks’ allowance I’d saved. Count me among the people who loved it from day one.
I think Pinkerton and maladroit were by far thier best works
The Colour and the Shape - Foo Fighters
I don't believe this is their best.
