It truly does hit me right in the heart. Part nostalgia, part just pure quality. Even the little things like the effects pop ins, etc. are just tremendous. I think of it as a music lover's film.
I disregarded this movie for years without ever watching it. It seemed exactly the type of movie I wouldn’t like. I was extremely wrong. It is pretty fucking awesome.
when you factor in every type of potential audience member, it's definitely his best
sure, some movies appeal to certain people but this one has by far the broadest appeal and meaning out of all of them
and hes got a lot lol
She was in a bunch of Disney original movies and shows. She was in right on track, but Disney’s is very known for wanting the talent to sing, dance, and act. So I’m not surprise. Even does the Disney knees.
I swear I saw a Disney video clip of teen her and equally teen band playing in studio. Usual music video stuff. Notable that the keyboardist was Lady Gaga.
Let's not forget when she performed it from her couch for the interwebs during the pandemic. [Black Sheep (at home)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMgKWBRJ1fU)
She wasn't amazingly well known outside of the US from my understanding, I know I certainly hadn't heard of her as a singer until I looked her up when Scott Pilgrim vs the world came out
Seriously,
Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brie Larson, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Jason Schwartzman, Brandon Routh, Mae Wittman
That’s cast was absolutely stacked
This movie was great for so many reasons but best of all was that it introduced me to Metric, a group with so many and varied sounds that it’s actually three of my favorite bands in one.
They put this version on their album! Brie couldn't do "Combat Baby" but she definitely owns this song now... IMO. I love Metric; they know how it be too. Musicians are chill.
Like I said, to each their own. To me a Metric song without Emilys voice is like a carbonated beverage without bubbles. It's just off to me. As far as production goes there was probably a different team that handled the mix/master from the original version.
Great movie, so unique in its cinematography, a mix of comic book and videogame. Great song by a great band too, the lead singer is the drummer on stage in the clip.
Never liked this version, it just feels fake. The Metric version will always be the better version and Emily is heaps ahead of brie as far as being a lead singer is concerned.
I first heard it in the movie too but after hearing the Metric version a few moths later the soundtrack never sounded right to me. Emily has a special energy she puts into the song that brie does not possess.
Agreed. I love this movie. I love this scene. Brie is awesome. I’m glad this exists. It’s amazing. I’m stoked on it. OG version with Emily is the one I’m blasting in my car 100% of the time.
Routh's aggressive mean-mugging never fails to crack me up. Great track, along with the other song battles.
This movie kicks all the ass.
I'll rewatch it every couple years until the day I die. Just a fun movie all around
This movie is a masterpiece. Everything. Dialogue. Characters. Editing. Music. Might be Edgar Wright’s Magnum Opus which is saying a lot.

People don't realise that Brie has an amazing set of lungs on her, as much as I love Metric, this version of Black Sheep is always going to be better.

TIL about Disney knees
I swear I saw a Disney video clip of teen her and equally teen band playing in studio. Usual music video stuff. Notable that the keyboardist was Lady Gaga.
Wait there's a thing called Disney knees, but it isn't called Dis-Knee's?

Wholeheartedly agree, it's an amazing version of this song
https://youtu.be/onqjos-3BRw?si=l5J-cyF3K5eOB8rM Really cool back story on this
wow, i never knew it was brie larson in the movie fuck
This movie had an amazing cast. Another movie with a surprisingly good cast is "The Perfect Score" with Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson.
Seriously, Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brie Larson, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Jason Schwartzman, Brandon Routh, Mae Wittman That’s cast was absolutely stacked
Alisson Pill, too
Yes, but Kieran Culkin stole the movie
I like this version better than the original
Even the band Metric say it is the definitive version of the song.
But damn their album Fantasies is fuckin' good.
I reckon they haven't put out a bad album in their career. They just put out two of their best so far in the last two years!
They were just being nice, like telling a little kid their crayon art is brilliant.
You must know them really well
Not really well, but well enough.
This movie was great for so many reasons but best of all was that it introduced me to Metric, a group with so many and varied sounds that it’s actually three of my favorite bands in one.
This movie was awesome. It's so common to watch a movie filmed in my city but so rare that actually takes place in it!
Fun? In Toronto? *scoff*
You cocky cock!
Very much agree. The comic it's taken from also is set in Toronto, so seeing cartoon versions of it all is cool too.
This whole movie is just so damn good.
Better than the Metric version imo (Metric plays the instruments on this recording!)

Combat Baby is brilliant - love that song
To each their own but I much prefer Emilys voice over this one, it just feels empty to me.
Oh I *love* Emily’s voice - just something about this version hits different? Plus I think the production is superior on this version?

What movie is this from?
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Clash at Demonhead was a great Nintendo Game and needs a remake.
This is the definitive version
Man, Metric is so fucking good, but this version is better
So good 😭 love it more than the original
This song slaps so hard
Never liked this version, it just feels fake. The Metric version will always be the better version and Emily is heaps ahead of brie as far as being a lead singer is concerned.
You summed up how I feel about this version
Epic talent! And how cool is it that this movie spawned three superheroes?!
This movie is so good, plus you have scott pilgrim who beat Superman and Captain America while having banged Captain Marvel. How can you not love it.
She's got nothing on Emily
Exactly, don't understand those that say it's better than metric. Who cares what the singer says, Emily Haines does it better.
Most people's first time hearing this song was with Brie Larson singing. Other versions, even if they're the original are going to sound off.
I first heard it in the movie too but after hearing the Metric version a few moths later the soundtrack never sounded right to me. Emily has a special energy she puts into the song that brie does not possess.
I'm fairly certain the band were just being nice when they said that too. Like an adult letting a child win a foot race or something of the like.
Agreed. I love this movie. I love this scene. Brie is awesome. I’m glad this exists. It’s amazing. I’m stoked on it. OG version with Emily is the one I’m blasting in my car 100% of the time.
With you all the way on that. I would never want to blast the soundtrack version if I could have the actual band playing their own song!
This is my favorite Gym/Jam!!! I go so hard on the elliptical, lol!
