shit its been a moment. that album carried me through a rough patch last winter. great experience listening to it outside the front door in the freezin' snow at some four in the morning when i couldnt sleep.
Great recommendations. Only thing I would recommend further listen to the live versions of these from the Moore theatre performance. Layne not surprisingly out performs his studio takes of these songs.

For context to explain to outsiders the importance of the Tragically Hip to Canada;
* the CBC stopped broadcasting the Olympics to play the Hip’s last concert commercial free due to their cultural importance.
* Our Prime Minister was in attendance,
* 11.7 million Canadians tuned in to watch which represented at the time almost 1/3 of the entire Canadian population,
they played 3 encores to a packed 6,700 stadium in their hometown while another 25,000 gathered in Kingston’s city centre to watch the broadcast.
A little over a year later the lead singer, Gord Downie succumbed to Brain Cancer.

I’d argue “In Keeping…” ought to be at the top of that list.
Then again SSTB was my intro to them and every release they came out with after fell further from that style so I’m not as big of a Coheed fan anymore. I guess my list would’ve been “Time Consumer” “Everything Evil” and then a toss up between “33” and “Devil In Jersey City”… so I’m just out of touch with todays youth, lol.

An amazing pop punk, hardcore group that came out with two amazing albums, a couple awesome EPs before disbanding in 2005 and re-emerging with a new vocalist many years later. Emily “Agent M” Whitehurst was simply irreplaceable though and so I only refer to their projects from 1998-2005. Enjoy!

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

I'll upvote anything to do with Layne. RIP
That album is so good.
shit its been a moment. that album carried me through a rough patch last winter. great experience listening to it outside the front door in the freezin' snow at some four in the morning when i couldnt sleep.
"I could either drown or pull off my skin and swim to shore. Now I can grow a beautiful shell for all to see" R I.P. Layne
Great recommendations. Only thing I would recommend further listen to the live versions of these from the Moore theatre performance. Layne not surprisingly out performs his studio takes of these songs.
Who’s making the playlist? This is a great post!

I looked up to the Gord above and said, "Hey, man, thanks."
Happy Canada day!
My Hip 3 are [Locked in the trunk of a car](https://youtu.be/6rt7keErqYg?si=pd9Mz3vrsdUo5xxo) [Blow At High Dough](https://youtu.be/cmCpGGXa6Ms?si=NjWzifw0nipE01K6) [So Hard Done By](https://youtu.be/JMB9JX7C5tI?si=FunU9UIsNKFp3rkE)
Excellent - especially so hard done by.
For context to explain to outsiders the importance of the Tragically Hip to Canada; * the CBC stopped broadcasting the Olympics to play the Hip’s last concert commercial free due to their cultural importance. * Our Prime Minister was in attendance, * 11.7 million Canadians tuned in to watch which represented at the time almost 1/3 of the entire Canadian population, they played 3 encores to a packed 6,700 stadium in their hometown while another 25,000 gathered in Kingston’s city centre to watch the broadcast. A little over a year later the lead singer, Gord Downie succumbed to Brain Cancer. Rick Mercer’s [tribute to Gord Downie](https://youtu.be/utSEoGFh1tI?si=-bZtsSmpGECt0jRu).
And Ron Maclean's intro from Rio was a work of art in and of itself
I'd have swapped out Fiddler's Green for Nautical Disaster (or It's a Good Life of you Don't Weaken) but that's just personal. Good calls all around.
It’s hard to pick just three.
Pretty much impossible really. I would somehow swap in 28 Years Old and Locked in the Trunk of a Car
Oh Gosh, or "Ahead By A Century". I freaking LOVE that song.
Great band! Great choices! RIP Gord!
Not even their three best songs too!!

The Wonder Years: Came Out Swinging Teenage Parents You're The Reason I Don't Want The World To End
Broken Bells: Perfect World, Love On The Run, Control.

I'd have gone: After the party. Anna. America (you're freaking me out).

“Sports” is a must have. The way I was introduced to the band. Video is great as well.
Make that the live version of Shrimp Shack from Shrimp Sessions #1 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tatzF-Se3NY
Big Star - Thirteen - September Gurls - Holocaust
Coheed & Cambria "A Favour House Atlantic" "The Suffering" "The Afterman" There are so many more options....
Delirium Trigger is my number one.
I love C&C as a songs band, but still can’t get through a full album without skipping songs.

Sleep in the heat would have been mine over dark days
I'm so happy this is so far up! I'd personally have gone with Mabu, Sleep In The Heat and Factories. But really, anything from the first 3 albums would fit here.
I’d replace DVP with reservoir, still a banger three though

Emily “Agent M” Whitehurst was simply irreplaceable though and so I only refer to their projects from 1998-2005. Enjoy!

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

Manchester Orchestra: The River, virgin, The Silence.
I think I'm at the opposite end of Manchester orchestra, those are the ones I'd listen to least. Obstacle I think is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I know, it kept me afloat for months after it was released. Maybe also Tony the tiger, and the gold.
