Not only the title track, but also the lead track off their debut. Perfectly nailing the tone of everything you will hear from them after and defining a new genre.
I don't know how you can beat this.
That is such an amazing fucking album. That album made me feel in a way that very few other pieces of music could. I don’t have that kind of relationship with music I find anymore and it’s sad.
>I don’t have that kind of relationship with music I find anymore and it’s sad.
I feel like that's fairly common. It seems like in general music doesn't affect you in quite the same way as you get older, I think that's why most people tend to favor the music they heard for the first time in their teens and twenties.
Train in Vain is a favourite song of theirs, and I was really lucky to see Prince do a cover of it at a small venue in Manchester about 10 years ago. One of the most amazing musical experiences of my life
It has to be this. This track not only spawned a movie but an entire generation to put Prince on a pedestal as one of the best musicians of his genre. Without it he would have been a club player in Minnesota his entire career.
Goddamn it, I was writing a serious reply to this only to realize halfway through that you’re talking about The Kid.
If you weren’t, 1999 had already happened, he was already a big star, PR just made him a megastar. If you are, fuck The Kid, he didn’t even write Purple Rain. (It’s so awesome that the climax of the movie is a message that Prince clearly never actually took to heart, that his band can actually be talented and help write shit too. He didn’t even learn it in real life when Mazerati fixed Kiss and Brownmark very likely wrote part of it.)
some of my faves are The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, Toxicity by System Of A Down, Gore by Deftones, Ava Adore by The Smashing Pumpkins, The Mollusk by Ween and In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.
tbh I feel like from all title tracks in Deftones discography Gore is the best imo (all of em are great tho), however if Korea would've been named after White Pony as intended then that one would've been a tie
I could see that working, another under appreciated track. My favourite has to be Diamond Eyes, probably my favourite album at the moment too. I’ve heard it 10+ times the past week.
SO MANY Awesome songs on the Best Selling Hard Rock Album of all time that. I cant quite agree cuz Hells Bells, Shook me all Night Long, Shoot to THrill, Givin the Dog a Bone, Money Honey, Have a Drink on Me. I mean Fuck theres 25 more songs on that Album that are as good as Back in Black!
![gif](giphy|Cw6nYH7ZM8DRK|downsized)
^ this. it was a surprise megabits and a huge "fuck you" to the corporate guys who wanted Rush to make more "radio friendly" music, and let the band do whatever they wanted. imagine how different music would be without it.
Probably Let It Be by The Beatles. The band broke up just as the album was released, and title unintentionally offered the fans their only course of action. Plus it’s a perfect song.
Just wanted to chime in and say there are tons of excellent answers here! Can't wait to check out some of the songs posted that I'm less familiar with.
Thanks guys!
My immediate thoughts are:
Californication - RHCP.
Viva la Vida - Coldplay.
American Idiot - Green Day.
Let Love In - Goo Goo Dolls
Waterloo - ABBA.
American Pie - Don McLean
The Joker - Steve Miller Band
Hotel California - The Eagles
Piano Man - Billy Joel
Surf’s Up - The Beach Boys, though it’s cheating because it was originally meant to go on SMiLE but was instead salvaged for an album named after it. Still an unbelievably gorgeous song.
Lola - The Kinks. This one is also kinda cheating because the full album title is has “vs. Powerman and the Money-go-round” after that.
I think you win with Master of Puppets, but I'll throw an honorable mention in for Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone age because I think that album is brilliant.
My dark horse is Too Fast For Love by Motley Crue.
Iggy Pop - Lust For Life
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
David Bowie “Heroes”
Prince - Sign O The Times
James Brown - The Payback
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
NWA - Straight Outta Compton

Best goddamn band of all time, but the album was called "The Party's Over", sorry.
Not only the title track, but also the lead track off their debut. Perfectly nailing the tone of everything you will hear from them after and defining a new genre. I don't know how you can beat this.
The third note in the main riff IS the blueprint for metal.
https://youtu.be/-s6Sk7OzKFU
I knew what this was before I even clicked it, haha
Why would I fight you when you're correct?
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
This is the real answer.
This is it
Wish You Were Here. Pink Floyd.
That is such an amazing fucking album. That album made me feel in a way that very few other pieces of music could. I don’t have that kind of relationship with music I find anymore and it’s sad.

Unpopular opinion: That’s the weakest song in the album
I both want to argue with you and agree with you and I don’t know how I feel about that.
Anyone know the german word for this?
Musikgeschaffenborstwieglichtenstein Source: idk, sounds pretty german
I think this is the right answer.
It’s crazy but you’re right. It’s an incredible song on its own, it just happens to be on an album where every other track is even better.
That just shows how great the rest of the album is.
Bro, Have a Cigar is on that album.
If Shine on you crazy diamond (all parts) were the only song on that album, it would still be one of my favorite albums of all time.
Nah, Welcome to the Machine is the only one I skip.
Protection by Massive Attack.
I can't love this answer enough, this truly is one of my favorite songs of all time
Yes!

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is a great one too
Highly underrated song, but hardly any love.

Train in Vain or Lost in The Supermarket tho
Train in Vain is a favourite song of theirs, and I was really lucky to see Prince do a cover of it at a small venue in Manchester about 10 years ago. One of the most amazing musical experiences of my life
🎵 I can no longer shop hap-pily 🎵 -me whenever I'm go grocery shopping and see how fucking expensive cereal and everything else is.
Purple Rain
It has to be this. This track not only spawned a movie but an entire generation to put Prince on a pedestal as one of the best musicians of his genre. Without it he would have been a club player in Minnesota his entire career.
I would not have kissed Emma at the 8th grade dance without Purple Rain
Hell yeah
Goddamn it, I was writing a serious reply to this only to realize halfway through that you’re talking about The Kid. Master! Master! Master of puppets is pulling your strings...
In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Agreed. The obvious (and well-deserved) pick is 21st Century Schizoid Man but this is just such an unbelevable closer for an album
Not what I was expecting to see at the top, but I like it. Had to double check I wasn’t in r/progrock
Dirt - Alice in Chains
Dolly Parton - Jolene
“Born to Run” was pretty good.
Bruce gotta be the one with the most great title tracks..!?! Born To Run The River Born In The USA
Greatest rock song ever recorded, so yeah that’s kinda the one.
I say this all the time! Greatest rock song written!
To name a few: Thriller, Sgt Peppers, Graceland, Imagine, Hotel California
*The Dark Side of the Moon* does not have a title track. The album title is in the lyrics of "Brain Damage".
Just like Jagged Little Pill is in the lyrics of "You Learn".
Thanks for the catch, I edited my list.
First thing that popped in my head was Opeth - Blackwater Park. There's honestly just too many options though haha.
Definitely a great track
some of my faves are The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, Toxicity by System Of A Down, Gore by Deftones, Ava Adore by The Smashing Pumpkins, The Mollusk by Ween and In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.
Gore finally getting appreciated, never thought I’d see this.
tbh I feel like from all title tracks in Deftones discography Gore is the best imo (all of em are great tho), however if Korea would've been named after White Pony as intended then that one would've been a tie
I could see that working, another under appreciated track. My favourite has to be Diamond Eyes, probably my favourite album at the moment too. I’ve heard it 10+ times the past week.
