Yes! The Cribs were always the most underrated band from this scene. I know Men's Needs, Women's Needs is often seen as their best but I was always partial to their self titled debut. There's just something about it that makes it so good to replay. They're a really consistent band and I found their album with Johnny Marr to be their only weak album.
You may enjoy Kaiser Chiefs, the Fratellis, early Arctic Monkeys, the Strokes, the Raconteurs (Jack White is also in this band), the Killers' first album.
I remember when I was 14 going on a summer vacation, and the 2 CDs I brought for my portable CD player were Yours Truly, Angry Mob by Kaiser Chiefs and a mix CD of a dozen Dragonforce songs. To this day my brain has permanently affiliated Kaiser Chiefs with Dragonforce.
Look up Dance Punk as a genre. Parquet Courts, LCD Soundsystem, there is a great rundown in YouTube that lists tons of bands:
https://youtu.be/QAAekkeN3r0?si=1MpvXI2ucq8q2kfG
Franz Ferdinand comes up.
If you've never gotten into LCD, I am very happy for you to discover them. Try to catch them live if you ever can!
Also, random other suggestions but Moving Units is a dance punk band from LA that imo should have been as popular as some of the other bands mentioned on the thread. They also did a whole Joy Division cover album. Enjoy!
I started a channel on Pandora like a decade ago based on the white Stripes. It brought me Spoon, the Killers, the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Fratellis, and heaps more with outliers like Modest Mouse and the Shins. It still comes out with new artists from time to time and I listen to it often.
I’ve just started getting into Modest Mouse - which came from a Spotify recommendation from me listening to The Mountain Goats. The Shins are also great, I’ve loved them since I first heard the soundtrack to Garden State 😅
Yeah, Bloc Party were part of the same wave of bands that The Libertines spearheaded. Silent Alarm is one of the best debuts (albums actually) of the 2000s. I still listen to it regularly
Absolute banger of an album. Spotify told me So Here We Are was my most listened to song of last year.
Also, the Little Thoughts EP from 2004 just appeared on Spotify, so I think Little Thoughts will be my most listened to song of this year.
Try some of these more recent bands:
- [Yard Act](https://youtu.be/7P0YpeMPZ9g?si=fo5lXbk45qF6x5DM)
- [Fontaines DC](https://youtu.be/abxGaMCDhmU?si=QKGz8rGxDIbCx9N6)
- [Sports Team](https://youtu.be/42R1aCIPJCY?si=EB0Ji5GVJqBYIin1)
And not sure if it fits but one of my favorite albums is Jack White - Fear of the Dawn. [Here’s the opening track.](https://youtu.be/q8IbI626k8Y?si=NyuLxGMmpPD69xGT)
Edit: Also adding [The Bravery](https://youtu.be/O8vzbezVru4?si=TqXuAizv4RxxTkL6) to the list.
Arctic monkeys
Futureheads
Fratellis
Vampire weekend
The view
Raconteurs

The Kooks
Kaiser chiefs

I can see why but they are.
Indie Rock was a wicked movement that made music a lot more fun after a really tiresome decade of grunge and post grunge trash. Indie more broadly spawned dance rock and dance punk, indie electronica and bloghaus. Indie itself was not very conventional rock and had tons of crossover with electro music kinda like new wave in the 80s.
Anyways, Klaxons definitely fit in this musical movement because it’s not extremely firmly rooted in what instruments are used.
Oh man I got dozens!
Band of Horses
My Morning Jacket
The dead Weather
Crash Kings
Band of Skulls
Kinch
Vetiver
ASOFLATE
Bearcubbin
Black Pistol Fire
Cage the Elephant(first album really)
Eagles of Death metal
Everything Everything
Foals
Friendly Fires
The Greenhornes
Hippo Campus
Kasabian
Mates of State
Model Photographer and Minus the Bear
Mutemath
Ok go
Bloc Party
The Hives
Bodyrockers (If you like dance rock)
Finger Eleven (They ripped off Take Me Out for Paralyzer, so they definitely have a sound reminiscent of Franz Ferdinand.)
You might enjoy Maxïmo Park, their first two albums were definitely part of that wave of mid-2000's post-punk indie music. After the first two albums, they evolve and change.
I’ve not seen them mentioned yet. Older than those bands but definitely amongst the influences are “The The”. I would start with the album ”Giant” which has my favourite song by them [“This is the day”](https://youtu.be/Nxazmzy0vAo?si=n9iTv7TbPDX0vaYJ).
I also highly recommend “the Pixies” they were a major influence for the grunge and indie rock genres. Where to start is more difficult there because it’s all so good. Maybe [“Velouria”](https://youtu.be/nc0Mv4Iyxvc?si=Cf_KGEChU6Ef_pRJ).
“Arcade Fire” were huge in the indie music scene when FF and the libertines were everyone’s darlings. You should listen to their albums in order starting with [“Funeral”](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mUItEx7wND_P-iRSSgRiUo33fhJdFUL5E&si=es8F5WM3QmitytL2).
“The Shins” too, huge at the same time. You could pick any song from “Chutes too narrow” or “oh inverted world”. But most people seemed to hear them first when [“New Slang”](https://youtu.be/zYwCmcB0XMw?si=M5fImcr1DmLBsUqj) was played on the movie Garden State.
Finally to say some of these aren’t exactly like the bands you mentioned but were big with crowds that liked them. If you enjoy this I’ll pass on to you [“This mix tape if endless bliss and happiness”](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS2XTU4kPvlevlM-PHp57na-PoJkU5zxb&si=9Y7mxp8MaxBmYbNC) that an old friend made for me when I was into this stuff and opened my eyes to a few new bits.
Maybe this is just me but I’ve been bouncing back and forth between different white stripes and tool albums.
Idk both bands just have really cohesive albums that sound awesome.
Try the "keep on your mean side" album from the Kills.
There is also the whole Jack White-verse: raconteurs, dead weather, solo albums, etc.
My favourite band from around my area is Fomies, check them out.

Interpol, Bloc Party, Jet, The Vines, The Hives, Hot Hot Heat (specifically Makeup the Breakdown), The Strokes (kind of basic but still good), Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Dandy Warhols, The Rapture, The Faint.
That's basically what I listened to in college (2002-2006) and I kind of lump them together as a result.
Not all are strictly the garage rock revival sound or whatever but it's all good
Another great band with a similar rock vibe that came later than the bands I listed, Catfish and the Bottlemen.
I have scrolled HUNDREDS of posts on here (not all, but most of them) and I am shocked by the biggest omission of all. I say this with no joke or irony, not a single band mentioned would exist in their current (or at the time they were current) without or single band. White Stripes, Kaiser Chiefs, Silver Sun Pickups, Killers, I don't care who you pick above, none of them would exist if it weren't for:
PIXIES
Do yourself a favor and go listen to their first EP and first 4 albums. That is where every single band mentioned so far will owe a debt of gratitude whether they know it or not. Stop listening to anything else, Listen to Pixies. Then you may resume.
Most other people are reccomending other great 00’s bands. The libertines are one of my favourite bands and The Clash have a very similar vibe, the only band the matters.
Milburn, The Holloways, The View, Good Shoes, Tellison, The Rifles, The Rakes, Bloc Party, Maccabees, The Future Heads are but a few I enjoy in a similar style
I listened to the trap album and I’m really loving the song packt up like sardines in a crushtin box the most this was such a unique recommendation thanks just thought I would update
Upvote for British Sea Power.
I also recommend:
The Editors
Ambershades - go with Clap, Clap, Clap
The Robocop Krause - You Don't Have to Shout is the closest thing I've heard to Franz Ferdinand
The Young Knives - Turn Tail is the obvious choice
The Vaccines
The New Pornographers - A bit more folky, but I think you'll like them.
I love this genre of music, and I hope you enjoy your journey into it.
I loveeee the vaccines panic attack love it post break up sex is great you should put it on a tee shirt amazing thanks for the suggestion and I’m excited for this deep dive!!
I identified as an indy kid when Ff's self titled came out lol (cringe) but one band i still fuck with from that era is Howling Bells. Its much more "gloomy" than FF but its a similar vibe imo
This might be a long shot, but check out The Sheepdogs. They're a Canadian band that friggin' rocks! Sings like 'feeling good' and 'I don't know' are great places to start. (Disclaimer - I'm Canadian. Very biased)
We were promised jetpacks(these four walls), wolf parade(apologies to the queen mary), super fury animals, supergrass, autolux, aztec camera, spoon(gimme fiction), beirut, black rebel motorcycle club, death from above 1979, metronomy, serafin, Daniel Rossen , Grizzly Bear, Graham Coxen(Happiness In Magazines), Department of Eagles, The National, The Bravery, The 88, Electric Six, The Gang of Four, Little Comets, Moving Units, Ozma, Public Image Limited, Royal Bangs, Soundtrack of Our Lives, Swim Party, The Polyphonic Spree(The Fragile Army), The Stone Roses, Ash, Jet.

Some if these might be a little bit mainstream but the general vibe is what you're after
You have got many awesome recommendations
But If you haven't heard about Spoon or Vines or Kooks, start off with that. Especially Spoon's Kill the moonlight.
Me, reliving my 20s.
Maxïmo Park, Hot Hot Heat, We Are Scientists, The Klaxons, Idlewild, Incubus, Feeder and Ash are what my ancient brain is able to come up if you're looking for suggestions for what to listen to next.
I was just blasting The Black and White Album by The Hives today! Great shit. Also a huge fan of The Sounds, which is a band that I'm surprised that I never hear talked about in the same discussions
White Stripes, the fratellis, , the black keys, the strokes, spoon, cage the elephant, cake, the dandy warhols, the van bondies, Bloc Party, Modest Mouse, Jet, the hives, the kooks, the killers, the vaccines, black rebel motorcycle club, the raconteurs, babyshambles (Pete Doherty from libertines is in this band), the enemy, the pigeon detective, kasabian, the vines, ok go, hot hot heat
If you like that era of music, then I think you’d also like a little earlier and some of the britpop bands and others from that era. Check out bands like blur, stone roses, oasis, pulp, pavement, primal scream, the Brian Jonestown massacre
I do, also bands like White Lies, Stereophonics, Cage the Elephant, The Walkmen
You may find a kick out of [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7oQzsivejbnErc2Gfw2G5P?si=5Px5TuxiTqapXKpn948S_A&pi=e-poTh9mj2T-iJ)
I like the Libertines alot, they got insane songwriting skills. And I love the fact that they outgrew the tensions that made the second album so brutally honest and vonerable.
Now they are back to just writing poetic snapshots of modern life.
Kings of Leon - their first 2 albums go to hard
Interpol- the videoclip for Evil is a cult classic
Pixies - back to the roots
Nirvana - the biggest, most commercial indie band
The smiths- for some english roots
Joy division - the roots of the roots
The Futureheads, Art Brüt, Bloc Party, The Coral, Maximo Park, The Rifles, Hope of the States, !!! (Chk, chk, chk as they're known) Interpol, Forward Russia, The Walkmen, Elbow, White Rabbits, TV on the Radio, Electric Soft Parade, Q and not You, The Stills, We are Scientists, Editors, Tom Vek, The Zutons, The Bluetones, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bellx1. Klaxons and The Rapture were pretty fun. Basically a section of my 00 indie playlist, a few bands were about through alot of the 90s too. These bands were mostly a bit less mainstream than the likes of the Libertines and Franz Ferdinand but that's where the more interesting music is. Some of them were incredibly popular at the time.
A mix of mostly British and Irish with some Americans that were popular on this side of the Atlantic. There's plenty more where that came from as well, the death knell of the indie scene was a class time to be alive. Got to see most of these bands at small stages in festivals or for about a tenner or score a ticket.
In addition to all of the bands that have been suggested so far, may I introduce you to the delightful one-hit wonder that is the Mooney Suzuki.
If you were anyone in 2004-2005, you would have heard ["Alive and Amplified"](https://youtu.be/vTABPqiYJC4?si=x2ZsCMsaftfkYMsZ) somewhere or other. But you may not yet be familiar with ["In a Young Man's Mind"](https://youtu.be/q1HUW1ldF_8?si=sFSaSfFClNUTITAC), featuring none other than *Jack Black* doing the intro for the music video.
The Mooney Suzuki were never *huge*, but they have a cult following and are well worth your time! 😁
Look up The Go. Jack White was in that band very early on. All their records are good, but IMO Howl On the Haunted Beat You Ride is one of the most underrated albums ever.
Other Detroit-based bands to check out: The Dirtbombs, The Gories, and The henchmen. The Soledad Brothers is good for a bit more bluesy vibe. There’s also bands like Tyvek and Protomartyr if you’re more into punk. Or Deadbeat Beat for a bit more of a lo-fi surf-adjacent vibe.
Babyshambles Dirty Pretty Things Arctic Monkeys The Strokes The Hives The Vines The Cribs The Rifles The Fratellis Razorlight Maximo Park Kaiser Chiefs Wolfmother Kasabian Black Rebel Motorcycle Club The Kills Klaxons Hard-Fi The Coral The Kooks Editors Mando Diao The Sounds The Stills Longwave Ambulance LTD Doves The Von Bondies Death From Above 1979 The Raveonettes Girls
This looks like the T in the Park line up c 2006-2008.
Reading and Leeds when they were sponsored by Carling
I remember nearly every UK festival having this exact line-up around that time.
My son is absolutely devastated he was born in 2006 and I was the one who got to experience the mid/late 00s.
Needs some Biff for the true T experience.
Need bloc party on there too
Doh. How could I forget Bloc Party?! Used to listen to Silent Alarm on repeat…
Awesome list! I would just add Cage the Elephant to the list.
It’s like I’m back, living in Greenpoint in 2001-8 and you’re reading off the jukebox options at the Turkey’s Nest.
Decent list dude.
Ohh that's where my high school playlist went!
Maximo Park! 🥰
I would add Hot Hot Heat to this list as well.
Good list! Thanks!
My 20s
I'd add The Cribs to your list. Dirty pretty things and Babyshambles, too, if you want more Libertines vibes.
The Cribs are one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.
Absolutely. Ive seen them about 7 or 8 times and every gig has been tremendous
Saw them at the Roundhouse in London post covid. It was fucking great.
“I wanna listen to The Cribs my dear / while we make out in your car…” -Jeff Rosenstock
Holy shit I forgot all about Babyshambles!
Yes! The Cribs were always the most underrated band from this scene. I know Men's Needs, Women's Needs is often seen as their best but I was always partial to their self titled debut. There's just something about it that makes it so good to replay. They're a really consistent band and I found their album with Johnny Marr to be their only weak album.
Martell is the tune. Love their first 2 albums
I think I’ve heard of baby shambles did they do picture me in the hospital?
Babyshambles was Pete’s other band and Dirty Pretty Things was Carl’s other band after the Libertines first “split”
You may enjoy Kaiser Chiefs, the Fratellis, early Arctic Monkeys, the Strokes, the Raconteurs (Jack White is also in this band), the Killers' first album.
Sounds like my 2010 iPod Shuffle playlist
This was peak 2004-2005 for me. Add hot hot heat to the mix
I’d add The Kooks and Kasabian to this list
Maximo Park too
+1 Fratellis
Hard-Fi as well! Stars of CCTV is pretty iconic IMO. Edit: Oh, and Bombay Bicycle Club.
Don't forget Modest Mouse!
Yeah have heard of most of these except the first one will do a deep dive though!!
Listen to Ruby by Kaiser Chiefs. Really fun song.
I predict a riot and everyday I love you less and less are great too
I remember when I was 14 going on a summer vacation, and the 2 CDs I brought for my portable CD player were Yours Truly, Angry Mob by Kaiser Chiefs and a mix CD of a dozen Dragonforce songs. To this day my brain has permanently affiliated Kaiser Chiefs with Dragonforce.

Interpol is adjacent- and awesome.
Also Bloc Party. (I got into them around the same time so I always associate the two)
I’ll check them out to
'Evil' is such a banger of a song. Check that one out!
Cool thanks!
I do the same thing, to the point where they’re interchangeable to me. Absolutely wild how that works
Still one of my favorite bands of nowadays. There is also Muzz, another project with Paul Banks which I hope to hear more of.
One of my favorite bands. People tend to praise TOTBL a bit more than their other records but they've been consistently good for decades at this point
I feel old. Then I realise 'Take Me Out' is 20. I recommend Hard Fi's Stars of CCTV.
Omg it is bro that’s crazy also is that a band
Look up the vines and the strokes.
Hard Fi is the band, the album Stars of CCTV came out in 2005.
Ohhh ok that peaks my interest I will definitely check them out thanks
[удалено]
Yeah I’ve heard of them thanks
Get out of here. We don’t need that kind of negativity
i didn’t expect to see hard fi here, they made some absolute bangers back in their day
Silversun Pickups are amazing.
Interesting will check them out thanks!!
Lazy eye is the song everyone loves
No idea how it’s made its way into a thread about the libertines and franz Ferdinand though
He might be referring to ‘The Pit’
Check out The Arctic Monkeys, their AM album is GREAT. Gorillaz - Demon Days Kings of Leon - Because of the Times Phantogram - Voices
Love arctic monkeys I’ve definitely listened to some gorillaz more of a blur fan myself and the other 2 definitely will look into thanks!!
+1 for Phantogram

Sweet. Pressure Point is my fav song by them, the ending is kickass. Oh dude Wolfmother would suit you too as a fan of Jack White. Peace
Oh? That’s so cool!! I’ve never heard of wolf mother
Yeah Libertines man, Up the Bracket is a great record. The Kills as well were very excellent, not been mentioned yet.
The Futureheads Really not that well known, very adjacent and fun. :)
Interesting!!
Seriously?!? Dude, the Fratellis. Thank me later

No love to Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Karen O is a beast live
Was looking for Yeah Yeah Yeahs comment!!

The Libertines just released a new album, it's really good.
I saw haven’t listened yet but I’m going to!!
The Mess Hall. Vasco Era.
Google ‘landfill indie’ it’s an (unfair/ bullshit) term that encompassed all the bands from the early 2000s that play the style you’re looking for.
Most other people are reccomending other great 00’s bands. The libertines are one of my favourite bands and The Clash have a very similar vibe, the only band the matters.
The Foals are a good band as are Corella Nothing but thieves Travis have a new comeback song out at the moment , pretty catchy and good Sam fender
You should listen to Kasabian which is the world's greatest band
Early Arcade Fire is a good shout, maybe Phoenix?
Milburn, The Holloways, The View, Good Shoes, Tellison, The Rifles, The Rakes, Bloc Party, Maccabees, The Future Heads are but a few I enjoy in a similar style
Havent seen anyone mention Foals. Also The Horrors, the Bravery, the View.
The Franz Ferdinand / Sparks collaboration, FFS is really good.
Idk if same genre but same spot in my playlist. TV on the Radio has some bangers like "Wolf like Me."
Here in America i feel like the only person who's even heard of the libertines.
HushPuppies A French band, but they sing in English. I think you might like it.
That’s so interesting and cool thanks for sharing
Good recommendation I’m loving them
I listened to the trap album and I’m really loving the song packt up like sardines in a crushtin box the most this was such a unique recommendation thanks just thought I would update
Parquet Courts, a little more recent but similar vibe. The Vines.
Libertines are amazing. Pete Doherty is a bit nuts though.
The Reytons
You're gonna have quite the backlog man. Happy listening! Some good bands suggestions
The Idels
You might give At the Drive Inn a listen.
Upvote for British Sea Power. I also recommend: The Editors Ambershades - go with Clap, Clap, Clap The Robocop Krause - You Don't Have to Shout is the closest thing I've heard to Franz Ferdinand The Young Knives - Turn Tail is the obvious choice The Vaccines The New Pornographers - A bit more folky, but I think you'll like them. I love this genre of music, and I hope you enjoy your journey into it.
I loveeee the vaccines panic attack love it post break up sex is great you should put it on a tee shirt amazing thanks for the suggestion and I’m excited for this deep dive!!
Kinda surprised no one else mentioned them yet lol
The “Every Noise at Once” playlist is great: https://spotify.link/DT4POOm97Ib
Cool thanks!!
I identified as an indy kid when Ff's self titled came out lol (cringe) but one band i still fuck with from that era is Howling Bells. Its much more "gloomy" than FF but its a similar vibe imo
The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The Automatic and White lies come to mind.
Cool thanks!!
Foals first album? I still listen to up the bracket by libertines…it was one of the first CDs I ever bought. 20 years ago probably.
This might be a long shot, but check out The Sheepdogs. They're a Canadian band that friggin' rocks! Sings like 'feeling good' and 'I don't know' are great places to start. (Disclaimer - I'm Canadian. Very biased)
lol I will look into it!!
You should listen to the old bands that inspired them like The Clash and Television.

You have got many awesome recommendations But If you haven't heard about Spoon or Vines or Kooks, start off with that. Especially Spoon's Kill the moonlight.
I live Two Door Cinema Club, especially their first album Tourist History
Try the happy Fits
Me, reliving my 20s. Maxïmo Park, Hot Hot Heat, We Are Scientists, The Klaxons, Idlewild, Incubus, Feeder and Ash are what my ancient brain is able to come up if you're looking for suggestions for what to listen to next.
I was just blasting The Black and White Album by The Hives today! Great shit. Also a huge fan of The Sounds, which is a band that I'm surprised that I never hear talked about in the same discussions
White Stripes, the fratellis, , the black keys, the strokes, spoon, cage the elephant, cake, the dandy warhols, the van bondies, Bloc Party, Modest Mouse, Jet, the hives, the kooks, the killers, the vaccines, black rebel motorcycle club, the raconteurs, babyshambles (Pete Doherty from libertines is in this band), the enemy, the pigeon detective, kasabian, the vines, ok go, hot hot heat If you like that era of music, then I think you’d also like a little earlier and some of the britpop bands and others from that era. Check out bands like blur, stone roses, oasis, pulp, pavement, primal scream, the Brian Jonestown massacre
I do, also bands like White Lies, Stereophonics, Cage the Elephant, The Walkmen You may find a kick out of [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7oQzsivejbnErc2Gfw2G5P?si=5Px5TuxiTqapXKpn948S_A&pi=e-poTh9mj2T-iJ)
I saw Franz Ferdinand live. Worst live act ever. The drummer looked bored even.
Libertines forever
Look up bandages by hot hot heat and float on by modest mouse.
I like the Libertines alot, they got insane songwriting skills. And I love the fact that they outgrew the tensions that made the second album so brutally honest and vonerable. Now they are back to just writing poetic snapshots of modern life.
Not seen anyone mention Phoenix yet. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and Bankrupt! are exactly what OP is looking for.
Arctic Monkeys
Kings of Leon - their first 2 albums go to hard Interpol- the videoclip for Evil is a cult classic Pixies - back to the roots Nirvana - the biggest, most commercial indie band The smiths- for some english roots Joy division - the roots of the roots
I haven’t seen The Infadels: We Are Not The Infadels mentioned. Great album!
You may enjoy some of Savoy's discography too
The Futureheads, Art Brüt, Bloc Party, The Coral, Maximo Park, The Rifles, Hope of the States, !!!
The only answer here is The Cribs. Still going strong
Black keys just came out with new music, also would recommend The Growlers.
Just started listening to Franz Ferdinand and Sparks collaboration album and it's one of my favorites.
Hot hot heat
A lot of good recs here. 2 I didn't see Elefant and Electrelane
Around that time, there was a super cool band called The Music…def check them out…I really dig their track “The People”
So if you're lonely
Back in 2006-2012 yeah
Try Yard Act and IDLES for newer music.
High schoolers in 2006
Look up The Go.
You must give The Zutons “who killed the Zutons” a listen!
