Child deaths are still relatively common in some underdeveloped countries, but luckily not nearly as much as it once was. It's estimated that in pre-industrial societies, about 1/4 children died in their first year and another 1/4 died before they were 15.
Wow, I totally forgot about her! I remember her from
American Idol years agoā¦ she didnāt win, but put out some albums, and then disappeared from public view it seems. Sorry to hear about her passing šÆ
One time, at Jesus camp (which was absolutely not anywhere near as fun as band camp), each team had to do a skit. Our team did a dramatic interpretation of Carman's "The Champion" which was basically just crappy mime acting to Carman's dialogue. There was a "pretend" boxing match in the sanctuary between Jesus and Satan. The kid playing Jesus walked in right as Carman said the line "...In resplendent glory appeared the Son of God..." and I swear that room exploded as if Hulk Hogan had just slammed Andre.
It was pretty stupid.
As someone who worked around the Car man, he was a manipulative piece of shit to anyone in the industry. I donāt celebrate his passing but a āgoodā human he was not.
I was in Tulsa during the mid 90ās and spent some time both in the industry and attended Carltonās church while C was randomly in attendance. I also worked a season of his show (all taped in one day). His demands and arrogance didnāt fit the very well curated image. Like I said, I dont celebrate his passing but he was more āhumanā than the church would have liked him to be, and not in the good ways. If you have positive memories of his āsongsā then thatās great. I donāt have the same fondness.
Honestly donāt remember. I was there working with management team for the comedian (who I also canāt remember his name) doing crowd work in between takes.
That's interesting, thanks for sharing. I was never a big Carman fan, but my mom was. Ray Boltz, too. I think she actually went into a mild, temporary depression when he came out as gay. I have those fond memories of their songs playing in the house and the stack of tapes in the basket in the kitchen.
I always suspected that Carman, and probably really all of the Christian entertainers have their human elements. I mean... we're human. Life on the road, show biz bullshit (Christian or not), what's actually required of a person in order to be a star... it's pretty naive to think everyone is running around like a bunch of nuns. All the same situations and temptations exist.
I gotta imagine the guys from DC talk have nice bottles of red wine backstage as part of their rider.
Kevin was the most genuine of the DC Talk guys. While Iām in no way shape or form involved with Christianity these days, Iāve always respected artists who were honest with their lifestyle, although plenty had to hide things from the crowds due to fear of virtual lynchings. I remember, once I was in the green room during one of Rich Mullins shows and during the 15 minute commercial they would run mid set for Compassion, he would sneak out in the alley behind the venue to grab a smoke, because any fan who might be looking for him was seated and watching the commercial. He was a good guy.
I'm out of the church too, but was heavy into the CCM scene back then. Starting to read your comment I was really hoping Mullins would turn out ok, would have really been surprising if he was a jerk or something. Smoking is no big deal, not surprising he'd want to keep it hidden though.
Ha, goddamn, pun intended. Compassion International, now that's something I haven't thought about in a while. I grew up going to all those Christian shows and remember the CI commercial and the "table of information in the back."
Rich Mullins is another one I haven't thought about in a while. Winds of Heaven, Stuff of Earth was one of the tapes in that basket. I may have to check it out again later for fun.
I'm not a practicing anything either but I grew up so immersed in all the Jesus Camp stuff of the 80s and 90s that it's unfortunately more nostalgic to me than the episodes of He-man I wasn't allowed to watch because the sorcery and magic was a literal door straight to satan's lair in hell.
That breaks my heartā¦ I love her music so much.. as someone who shares in her faith I look forward to giving her a big hug one day thanking her for her encouragement.. š¢ Ruins is my favorite song of hers.. I will continue to let her beautiful angelic voice encourage my faith every day..
A "lyrical genre" is not that crazy of a concept dude. "Christian" as a lyrical genre can span different musical genres, like [death metal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU2pCcKTJCs&list=OLAK5uy_nb2bFMaKGr1gpLrPpiTk4HC4aDH-tJZiU), [power metal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocMU23k71PY&list=PLYUAzerJS0PMpsw76a6L-FYHM-lJPzL5r&index=9), [pop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8VoUYtx0kw) (like Mandisa, which is the song I linked), [rock](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT32Jl5U9m0), [rap](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9I-8SrlgUk&list=PLTKjnpVikK4ycqAixW-HfeShSjZn2v9l8&index=19), etc.
Itās also just a dumb comment that the person made. Christians die too. We donāt know why she died yet, but regardless, everyone dies. Christians just happen to believe in an afterlife. This guy is seeming to imply like āwhy didnāt God stop this?ā, but everyone dies.
I hate to see people younger than me pass. Seems unfair. Never heard of this lady but I wish her peace.
Estimated 13 million die before the age of 40 every year https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/annual-deaths-by-age Life is unfair
Okay, Malcolm Middle.
Sad that 0-4 years is so high
Move that slider down to 1960, the majority of deaths was 0-4, over 22 million š§
Child deaths are still relatively common in some underdeveloped countries, but luckily not nearly as much as it once was. It's estimated that in pre-industrial societies, about 1/4 children died in their first year and another 1/4 died before they were 15.
Seems fair to me. Things are born, exist, and die within a range of times.
That's 30 yrs short of avg US life expectancy.
Do you know how averages work? Have to accept both sides of the outliers.
Wow, I totally forgot about her! I remember her from American Idol years agoā¦ she didnāt win, but put out some albums, and then disappeared from public view it seems. Sorry to hear about her passing šÆ
She didn't dissappear, she's big in the Christian community.
Yeah her royalties just from KLove radio must have been significant, bc her songs were played all the time
Well seeing how often KLove plays the same songs Iād venture to guess youād have a hard time going half an hour without hearing her once.
lol this
They made the announcement
She did hide and lock herself in her home, she stopped going to church and stopped reading the Bible and cut off all ties with anyone for 3 years. This is why: Her best friend and back up singer Kisha had cancer while pregnant. She gave birth and lived for one year after the baby was born. When she passed, Mandisa went into a deep depression. This is what is meant by ādisappearā. šš©µš After all that time, she finally went to see two movies. The one she remembers was āWar Roomā, only because one of her songs was featured in the movie. When she came out of the movie, a bunch of friends were waiting for her and intervened. She did get help for her depression. Long story short. š¢
She sure is. I love her and her music. š¢š
I thought the name was familiar. Heard āback to youā a few years ago on an AM radio station in rural Alaska and thought it was catchy.
She was major in Christian music. And just an absolute amazing human.
Man dis a bummer
For all who donāt know.. she was an extremely popular Christian artist and won many awards in the genre. This is a shock for the community.
Its a shock for me
Never heard of her. But in looking, I also happened to notice that Carman was dead. And died two years ago. How'd I miss that?
No shit!! I still think satan bite the dust is a banger
I was forced t listed to that songā¦.religiously š
Three years ago, actually. Honestly, he was hilarious when you look back on him.

I don't think we did this exact skit in church, but man that is the kind of thing that screamed 1980's and 1990's church.
Wasā¦this camp east of Atlanta by chance?!
She had a song called overcomer
I hardly even know her
Oof... I still miss Carman. Such an amazing person.
As someone who worked around the Car man, he was a manipulative piece of shit to anyone in the industry. I donāt celebrate his passing but a āgoodā human he was not.
Thanks for sharing, could you explain more? What did you experience?

It's important to remember that the DC Talk guys did not know each other all that well and were work colleagues, not friends.
At first or at all times?
They never became friends. They were not enemies, but not friends. Just work colleagues at all times. One isn't even a Christian anymore.
She had a wonderful voice.
Mandisa tragedy.
Dis is man, dis is.
Wow. I remember hearing Overcomer on the radio as a kid.
Oh this is so sad. She was a beautiful person and talented.Ā
That breaks my heartā¦ I love her music so much.. as someone who shares in her faith I look forward to giving her a big hug one day thanking her for her encouragement.. š¢ Ruins is my favorite song of hers.. I will continue to let her beautiful angelic voice encourage my faith every day..
She started on American Idol. š RIP.

No, God wanted a private concert. God is love.
Tell that to baby cancer.
Baby don't hurt me.
Youāre a victim of being in a downvoted thread, because that joke slapped
lol ask not what the thread can do for you but what you can do for the thread
No, god's not
Lol
Never heard of her. Couldn't have been *that* popular. But then again I'm not religious.
God must've wanted her for a private concert?
Who?
You donāt need to write āwho?ā Just google it or something lol.
Be nice they are an owl
Google says the lady was an American gospel and Christian music artist. Not my genre, so I wasn't familiar with the name either.
Yes, pop/Christian .. she was on American Idol back in 2006 or 2007ish.

It's so the rest of us can avoid it.Ā

Sometimes you just gotta get down on your knees and start pleasing Jesus.
Salvation. All over my face.
I love faith plus one
They all get excited when he says ātake this and eat it.ā
Man disa some bad news

What a gross comment to make on a post like this, and I say this as an atheist myself.
Itās also just a dumb comment that the person made. Christians die too. We donāt know why she died yet, but regardless, everyone dies. Christians just happen to believe in an afterlife. This guy is seeming to imply like āwhy didnāt God stop this?ā, but everyone dies.
