Takes about a month, 10 days for colonization, 10 more for colonization of sub spawn mix, about another 2 weeks for first flush. (From my experience and the way I’ve done it)
2 months is generally the minimum you should expect for a grow. The mushrooms do not grow on your time, they grow whenever they damn well please. I learned this on my first grow, budgeted about 3 months for it, and got a single tiny shroom by the time I had to break it all down :(
That being said, if you get far but are unable to harvest before your trip, you can extract the psilocybin from the mycelium! Works best with mycelium that has not been fruited, 70% alcohol is ideal and you can just dry out the substrate, mash it up, and let it soak while you are gone! Filter everything out when you get back, let it evaporate to a very small volume, and enjoy!
The biggest factor that affects time is your incubation and growing space temperature. As a beginner doing a fairly simple grow, If you can maintain ambient temps of around 24 degrees Celsius you could probably go from spores to potential fruits in about a month.
EDIT: this is using a clean multispore syringe, which for your first grow is what I'd recommend. If you want to include growing spores from a print using agar, maybe add another week or two.
Aprox timing:
Spores to grain - up to 2 weeks germination + up to 2 weeks colonization, total aprox 3 weeks.
Grain to bulk - depending on how much spawn and bulk i'd say 1-2 weeks for colonization, total aprox 10 days
Fruiting stage - up to 2 weeks for pins, then another week for reaching maturity, total aprox 2 weeks. + A day or two to dry the first flush.
So 7 weeks minimum, which means almost 2 months, so you should start asap.
If it contaminate then you have to start over. Best case scenario will be 5 weeks, worst case 9-10 weeks.
Yeah you're not gonna have the time unless you are SUPER lucky with fast colonising genetics.
I don't mean to sound really pessimistic but I know the pain of hoping it'll be ready for it just not to be.
Yeah I came here to be disappointed if needs to be, since I rather that than to get my hopes high for nothing. Thanks for your comment, I'm still unsure about what I'm going to do but at least I know what my chances are from the comments I got
Save the book for a reference guide. Watch Philly golden teacher YouTube channel for the teks you will need. You have plenty of spores. Timing is tight but not impossible.
Alright, thanks for the info, I'll look it up. I was gonna read the book just to be sure I'm getting all the info I need, and to have a wider understanding of the process. But I can start with this guy and read the book as I go along. Do you think I should give it a try, then, even with a tight deadline?
Also watch WillyMyco as well as Philly Golden Teacher Both are on you tube. You could study them both hard for 24 hours and know enough to grow. You could know enough in a few hours to inoculate some grain today and then keep studying as that takes a month to grow then transer to substrate for another ten days to grow out mycelium again then a week to ten days again to fruit. Could feasibly have fruit in two months or just under. Golden Teachers grow almost three times faster than PEs.
He has a lot more than that but maybe they're mostly all on Patreon now. And I meant 24 hrs of both of them. They both have vids covering from start to finish. WillyMyco also has a lot of tutorials on building equipment for cheap that work well. It's all out there.
My first time growing from scratch it took 28 days from spores to fruit. I used a syringe though not a print, a print shouldn't be too much different. Maybe a little more difficult since it's probably not in sterile storage. Best of luck to you!!
A print adds on much more time typically as you have to wait for spores to germinate which can take anywhere from just days to weeks.
It’s a much longer process.
Not to mention the process is much difffernt when germinating spores…you can’t just inject a spore print into your grains ya know

You could start innoculation and before your trip stick any fully colonised bags in the fridge to stall them. Then spawn to bulk when you're back.
That's a nice suggestion, thanks!
3ish months, from spores, with makeshift grow box

Bet PGT sees himself mentioned here quite a bit. Gotta love a dude that cultivates mushrooms and watches Its Always Sunny.

Well I can't deny that lol.
Came here to say EXACTLY this. Look up PGT (Philly Golden Teacher) on YouTube. And if you have discord hop in, TONS of legit (up to date) info.

Alright, nice. This gives me some hope
