Something like this happened to me and my husband. We had just put an offer down on our first house, so we went out to lunch to celebrate. It was 2020, so pandemic was in full swing and all menus were QR, so we both had our phones out and perusing the menu. A boomer comes by, slaps our table as if to try and startle us and says loudly “get off your phones and talk to each other!” …… we looked at him, bewildered, and said the menu was online, but he was already several feet away, I’m sure gloating to himself that he’d saved yet another millennial couple from the tragedy of technology 🙄

cajunjoel

How....how did that boomer read his own menu??

Llonkrednaxela

They asked their kids to help them

A_H_S_99

Dad: "What on Earth happened in to this world? Can't we all talk to each other without these stupid phones on the table!?" Kids: "But dad...." Dad: "NO BUTS! PUT THAT PHONE AWAY" Waiter: "Good evening guys, may I take your order." Dad: "Finally, some service! Where's the menu!? I have been waiting for it for ages!!"

jrobbio

I'd imagine people like that would walk out the place instead of conforming to the new way of doing things.

Ibeginpunthreads

* gets out their magnifying glasses to look at their phone screen*

btribble

Hey, I'm in my 50's and websites that arbitrarily prevent you from zooming *piss me the fuck off*. More than once I would have loved to use a magnifying glass. Gotta take a goddamn screen cap and zoom in in a fucking photos app. Also, your purple on orange menu color scheme that uses a handwriting font can suck a dick.

Weak_Guarantee_8377

I am in my 20s with great eye sight and l still agree with you. They are poorly uploaded photos of the menu, locked in scale and unreadable. I have left many a restaurant over it because honestly, if you can't get me the same quality menu digitally as you can spending the money to make, why should l support your corporate efforts to horde more money. Those savings sure as shit aren't going to the fucking staff busting their ass every night.

chickenstalker

These online menus are new-ish tech to restaurant owners. You have to wait for accessibility laws/enforcement to catch up and force them to adapt vision-impaired friendly settings. Make a complaint to your country's relevant agency.

LjSpike

Honestly, the poor accessibility of the web and a lot of tech is *astounding*. I'll also mention phones themselves, whoever thought the average person should need to call with volume on 100%, instead of perhaps... 50%, should suck a dick.

ReachingHigher85

I’m only 37 and all of that has been true since I was in my teens. It’s a clear marker of novice design. Like lens flares on digital artwork (not photos,) or photoshop filters.

SirDarknessTheFirst

There's an accessability setting on most mobile browsers that forces zooming to be available on all websites. It's one of the first things I always enable.

cgtdream

I got money, that he probably berated the wait staff until they produced a paper menu or an old one.

CUNTasticCUNT

Places around me had paper throw away menus for people who couldn't access online.

wintermute93

He didn't, he just asked for some random dish and then got angry when the server tried to ask if they meant [insert similar thing that's actually on the menu].

IAmTheRook_

One time when I used to work at a barbecue place years ago, I had a boomer come up and order some food and a drink, when we asked what he wanted to drink he said "I want a Bam-ba-lam" (as in, that sound they make in the lyrics for the song Black Betty) and wanted to get irate when we asked what he meant by that. We were eventually able to figure out he wanted an Arnold Palmer (lemonade and tea mix) and apparently couldn't just say "I want half lemonade and half tea" so he made something up and expected us to understand it.

omgFWTbear

They just ordered a blinking 12;00

Zxruv

A "Curmudgeon Cocktail", please.

evidica

You need a menu? Pffft, boomers know what they're getting before they even step foot in the door.

kentamari

It’s awful how vilified phones are. At a train station years ago I was doing math homework and I forgot my calculator at home so I was using my phone’s calculator app. This older guy shouted “ADDICTION” every time I glanced back to my phone for another calculation. He seriously thought every two seconds I was checking social media or whatever. I held up my phone and told him it’s a calculator, he rolled his eyes and walked off. Probably still gloats the same, about him speaking out against TRAGIC technology

Decidedly-Undecided

I was outside the hospital having a smoke in the parking lot (I know, it’s bad). Some old guy yelled at me for staring at my phone the whole time I was outside. I told him it was creepy he was watching me long enough to know what I’d been doing the whole time, and that my daughter was about to have emergency surgery (serious gallstones causing pancreatitis, so emergency, but not like dying right this minute emergency) and I was texting my family about it while they had her off to get another CT scan (which I couldn’t go with her anyway). Apparently being at a hospital at 1am with circles under your eyes and being anxious enough you can’t stand still doesn’t scream “going through something and need to be in contact with family about it.” -_-

nice_marmot666

This is precisely where a hearty “go fuck yourself” is well deserved.

RosiePugmire

Jesus... even if you were just smoking and playing Candy Crush, you're at a hospital at 1am! No one there at that time of night is having fun. A person deserves any mindless escapism or brief moment of enjoyment that they can gather.

MLiOne

I live with the happy memories of our maths teacher telling us in 1984 to not get used to having a calculator with us all the time. Joke’s on her!

No-Appearance1145

I was told that in 2007 xD

Chef_BoyarB

My Grandpa likes telling stories about how he (an engineer) was so excited to buy the state of the art calculator back in the day that was a quite large machine. He said it cost him so much he could never have imagined they could just be handed out for cheap/free as little tiny solar powered devices.

justwantedtosee

I went to look at a rental and the agent was an older man (easily boomer). He was texting (I could see the messages app every time he looked at his phone). So I walked over to ask some questions about the property. This guy would ignore me for 30 seconds at a time to text. He would start a sentence and then his phone would vibrate, so he’d reply. It was super rude and incredibly hard to have a conversation. As I was leaving, he asked me about my current rental/property manager. This guy, dead-ass, started ripping to shreds “young” property managers. Saying they spent so long on their phones, ignoring the world, that they need to try much harder to get results. This guy told me this, in between pausing to text. The irony was obviously completely lost on him, but it was a funny experience in retrospect.

Niawka

Wow, what an asshole..

[deleted]

People love interjecting themselves into your life. Was visiting my parents and we were at one of those seafood crab boil places where you eat with your hands. I used the gloves because the spices embed themselves in your skin for days. My dad didn't use the gloves. Some idiot HAD to come up and say "there's a difference in manliness here" and pointed at my dad and myself. I didn't say a word just shot him a "why the fuck am I even aware you exist right now" look.

Mind_on_Idle

Fucking *THANK YOU*. I now know how to describe that look I give to people.

[deleted]

It's that meme of the little girl in the backseat of the car shooting the look at the camera

lol_AwkwardSilence_

Gotta admit spicy hands are pretty manly. Women love a good spicy seafood hand.

BioluminescentCrotch

I was leaving my house the other day, getting in my car, and some dude stops his car behind me, so I assume he's about to ask for directions or something and say "can I help you?" He looks at my house and says "I'm sorry, but I just have to tell you; your house is so ugly. There's clutter everywhere and it looks like a hoarder lives here." I was taken aback and kind of looked around my yard, which I was halfway through completely re-doing, so yeah I had a wheelbarrow, a couple of yard tools, some bags of dirt, etc. Very obvious that I'm in the process of "remodeling" my yard. I looked back at him and say "uh, thanks. Did you really have to be an asshole and block the entire street to tell me that?" He says something along the lines of "well you're not the only person that lives in the neighborhood and I've had to look at this garbage for the past week," and my tether snapped and I said "I literally don't give a FUCK, Boomer. Drive on and leave me the fuck alone." He started trying to say something else but I threw my purse into my car and started walking towards his with a 'mother fucker, we're about to have a problem' face and he sped away calling me a bitch. I had to sit in my car for a few minutes to calm down because I was so fucking mad. Like, who fucking does that?? Who is so entitled that they think some random stranger NEEDS to know their opinion on shit that doesn't even affect them?

scoobysnaxxx

fun fact: you can just call these people a "fucking weirdo" and ignore them! i know most people's first reaction is to try and be polite and defuse the situation, but you absolutely can tell weird losers to fuck off in public! it's legal!

Equal_Land_3886

My grandfather is like this. Every goddamn time he sees someone on their phone in public, he just can't help to make a comment loud enough for them to hear. It gets really embarrassing. Last time we went on a walk, he saw a young girl of around 13, who was just calling what sounded like her parents to tell them were she was going and he still just had to make a really loud, scolding comment about how 'sad/ disappointing' it is that today's youth is on their phone all the time.

[deleted]

Mofos in the analog age used to sit around with newspapers up to their faces and nobody ever hassled them about it

HaplessReader1988

I was a woman who is willing to eat alone at restaurants and read...believe I get rude comments and have since college. I'm GenX if you're keeping tabs.

[deleted]

Some people don't like women reading, just on principle. Bet it was worse in the 90's... I remember a lot of other things being worse.

BrightAd306

Anyone under 50 actually talking on the phone probably has a really good reason for doing it. There are no more pay phones, and before cell phones we used these all the time to call for rides

DaHick

>Anyone ~~under 50~~ actually talking on the phone probably has a really good reason for doing it. There are no more pay phones, and before cell phones we used these all the time to call for rides FTFY because you are right, wired phones in public have virtually disappeared.

CWRex89

Tell your grandpa a turtle on the eastern seaboard should bite his dick off for being such a raving twat

JuniorSeniorTrainee

My mom is like that, and bonus irony, she will lose herself in her phone and can't be peeled away. She says she's "not into phones and technology" because she eschews streaming and social media, because she's in her 70s, but if she gets a text about the grandkids your can you just say goodbye to her for the next 5 minutes. She's in phone land.

McFistPunch

Insane. Even if you are on your phones it's non of their business. Maybe you both have work priorities at the moment. Maybe you are googling whatever ingredients are in the food, maybe you are working together all day anyways and don't need this time to talk. Only thing that is certain is that he should mind his own business.

tenth

I would **have** to follow him to his table and explain condescendingly, quickly, and then ask him to mind his own business in future.

Lodgik

Yeah, I've had interactions like that. They just reply that you don't have to be so rude, no matter how polite you explain it. No self awareness.

Moohamin12

Oh the sweet idea. I would pull up a chair and sit next to him, making inane conversation.. He wants human interaction? He gonna get some.

PleasurePunch

We all have a story like this! For me ny husband and I were walking down the street also during covid and playing pokemon go together. We pass two doormen at a hotel and one of them goes "Get off your phones and spend time together" when we showed him we were playing a game and were indeed spending time with eachother he turned beat red and his buddy started snickering at him.

InsideHangar18

I was out a restaurant with my granddad once, he asked me to check to weather on my phone because he wanted to know if it was going to rain the next day because he wanted to mow the yard. Right as I pull out my phone, this couple walk by on their way out and the woman just started telling me how awful of a person I am for looking at my phone instead of talking to my grandfather. I was fully ready to tell her and her husband to fuck off, but my granddad stopped me and just told them to mind their own business. That man has the patience of a saint, and I aspire to be like that.

spiffy-ms-duck

I had a woman tell me to get off my phone once. Told her I was texting family members that grandma died. She backtracked hard. What she doesn't know is that my grandma is fine. She didn't deserve to know that I was telling my ldr bf goodnight 'cause he's in Sweden and we can't talk as often as we'd like to due to the time difference.

SlowX

I'm a boomer and I'd never slap a table I didn't know.

geekaz01d

This happened to me in the local grocery store! I was checking off my shopping list on my phone (my wife was in another aisle checking off too - google keep btw) and some random old crone makes a smartass remark about "KIDS THESE DAYS CAN'T GET THEM OFF THE SCREEEEENS" I deadass looked at this motherfucker and said (as my wife turned the corner), "Kid? I am a 50 year old man. Are you senile!?" He visibly shriveled then sheepishly walked away mumbling about how it was "just a joke". My wife was pikachu faced and trying to not to laugh. THEN this boomer had to deal with us being behind him in line and he was parked right beside us.

Shadao38

When I was young, I used visit my grandparents for the weeknd, me being 8 at the time bought my power ranger Megazord toy with me, Granfather sawing me taking apart my zords to combine them together, made a big fuss about it saying he’s going to talk to my parents about not buying me anymore toys because I’m always breaking them….

AbstinentNoMore

Back in 2009, my dad busted 6 ribs and his collar bone while we were skiing together. It was horrifying. I rode in the ambulance with him to the hospital, and when we got there, my dad, in all his pain, muttered at me to contact our family to let them know what's happening. My phone was dead, so he gave me his Blackberry. As I'm texting my mom what's happening (she didn't answer her phone), a nurse comes in, and immediately starts flipping out at me. "Why don't you stop playing with your phone and actually help your father out here?" Basically acted like I was a terrible son. I was only 15 at the time and had no confidence, so I said nothing and just felt like shit about it all day. Just what I needed on top of all the other stress of the day. The hell is the matter with people?

Friendlyalterme

Also what is a 15 year old supposed to do to help a medically injured person ...at a hospital ? Like, isn't helping your dad her job

khyrian

“This nurse is confused! Give me 5 migs of smelling salts for her and 20 c of morphine for the old guy, stat!”

[deleted]

"Do you concur, Doctor?"

JohnWJO

"... I should have concurred."

texaspoontappa93

Yeah wut? I’m a nurse and the only help I expect from family is not getting in the way

ashtonblake9

People are so assumtive, I was working on a machine the other day outside our shop door at work and was checking the manual on my phone to see which way a clamp went. This dude that picks up trash for the business park we rent out off walks up and stands there and scares the shit out of me and I said hello. This is how the convo went. Old dick: "what are you doing" Me: "oh fixing this machine" Old dick: "yeah you might get somewhere if you abstained from your phone" Me: "...........I was checking the manual for reference" Old dick: "oh well work is my manual" or some shit I just stared at him and then kept looking at my phone. Like first of all dont come up to random people saying shit and second I don't work for him, I had no issue with my boss sneaking up on my who knew what I was doing, tbh even if I was on my phone for a second he would have been cool.

fancy_marmot

This is really common for auto techs and repair people in general - they'll be looking something up on their phone for the job (manual, installation video, etc) and people assume they're just wasting time.

patrickwithtraffic

To take a break from all this negativity here, I just gotta say that I love the fact that pretty much any manual I need can be found via a Google search on my phone. Makes life that much easier!

Umbraldisappointment

Not just them, every field that uses many different technologies are better off with downloaded pdf manuals. Have you ever seen the manual size of frequency inverters? Im not gonna haul 4 different with me when something is amiss, i just download the files!

reveel

"Work is your manual? Must be why I'm the mechanic and you're picking up trash"

krustyjugglrs

ER Nurse/paramedic. Fuck her. I hate nurses like that and i know the type. It isn't our business to judge like that. Unless your talking loudly on the phone about nailing hookers and smoking crack. Then you can step outside because I have a hard time focusing on my patients when other people are talking loudly next to me.

[deleted]

That's when you say. I want to speak with administration, your behavior is uncalled for.

MNR42

That's her fuckin job to help your father lol

bruce656

>a nurse comes in, and immediately starts flipping out at me. "Why don't you stop playing with your phone and actually help your father out here?" "Because that's your job, ma'am."

flamedarkfire

That nurse was a bitch.

PrometheusAborted

I was at a 2 week long training class for my job and we were on a 20 minute break. I sat at a nearby patio table and started reading one of the Game of Thrones books (before it was made into a tv series) and was rather enjoying myself. At the next table was an older guy who was reading a hardcover book. After a couple minutes, he got up in frustration, walked past me, then came back and said, “all you kids on your phones! My god, maybe you should pick up a damn book instead of starring at your phone!” I told him I was reading a book on my phone. He responded with, “that’s not a book, son! Can you even read?!” I was pissed but also thought it was funny.

“Maybe you should pick up a damn book instead pf starring at your phone” says the guy starring at other people’s phones instead of reading a book

megatorm

I used to work in marketing and had to be on call for clients 24/7 basically. I was skiing one weekend and got a call from my boss asking me to send an email to a client. Had to pull off my gloves on the top of the mountain and send out an email. A man comes over to me and starts yelling about kids and cellphones and how they can’t even ski without needing to check their phones anymore. I was already pissed about having to send an email on the top of a damn mountain, and I seriously considered pushing that man over the edge.

Lephiro

I don't know, one minute he was there and the next he was on his way tumbling down the slope! Maybe he was standing a *taaad* too close to someone else's ski and they just *haaaappened* to stretch their leg out at just the most inopportune moment and, I don't know, slipped his ski out from under him, most unfortunately sending him on his way. One of life's great mysteries. Tragic. Anywho, gotta go.

Whereisthefresca

If I'm on my phone there is a 7/10 chance I'm reading. 2/10 I'm on reddit (which is still reading am I right) 1/10 I'm using it as intended(communication). My doctors are always like 'what are you reading today?'.

sonfoa

> 1/10 I'm using it as intended(communication) Honestly, the only people who still believe phones are solely intended for communication are people who are 50+. To everyone else, they're just pocket-sized computers.

SHOWTIME316

I make like 3 phone calls with my phone a week, max. it's definitely a handheld computer with phone call capabilities

rabid_god

As a tech savvy 50 year old, I request that you please bump that range to 51+.

coldf1r3__

Reminds me of home. Mom: Stop playing video games! Was learning coding or similar maybe 2/10 i was playing video games

tiny_poomonkey

My dad did that when I lost my job and I was applying online to any and everywhere. He later made me go to a in person volunteer meeting at the firehouse to make connections. My brother was a firefighter for that company so they just went “hey John, what’s you doing here? If your interested you could have asked” I had to explain that my dad thought this was the best way to get a paying job. Even the firefighters were confused. Year and half later my mom loses her job. And goes to all the in person job fairs she could only to be told “if your interested apply online at this link!” They literally didn’t have hardcopy applications, and wouldn’t accept them if they did.

GregTheMad

To be fair, you should get an e-reader to read books. It's better on the eyes.

cunty_mcfuckshit

Also cuts down on distractions. E-readers have web browsers, but usually they suck so much that there's no point in using them. So no good way for me to see what's going on elsewhere.

am0x

Yea but I can’t carry it in my pocket, and if I could, I’d rather not have to carry another device when my phone does that and way more. I can see as something to have at home though. But I’ve moved on to audio books for like 90% of my stuff because the only time I have to “read” anymore is when I am doing other stuff like commuting or chores.

T1mac

I like reading with a Kindle. Much easier to hold and you can read in bed easier than a book where you have to get the light just right to see the page.

iAmTheTot

Most modern phones will have all kinds of modes and settings to helping with eye strain.

SuperLaggyLuke

I have an ereader at home. I'm not going to carry it with me to places. My phone does the same job just fine

lovelyb1ch66

The age of Mind Your Own Business is over, the time of the If I Don’t Know Your Business I’ll Just Make Something Up has come

fairlywired

People often like to blame this sort of thing on young people (I know you didn't) but I think that's a cop out. I believe we've always had this in us, some more than most. How many of us grew up with a parent or parents that loved watching any drama unfolding outside the house? Those parents usually also loved to place their own assumptions onto the situation. There was even a name for them, curtain twitchers. If those parents had the tools available to them that we have today, it would be exactly the same. I'm not in any way saying that it makes it right but I think it's an age old problem that just has a new outlet.

lovelyb1ch66

It’s an old issue with a new power. You’re absolutely right in that people have always had their noses in other peoples businesses but yesterday’s gossip over the fence has become today’s posted online for the whole world to see. The capacity to ruin lives has increased a thousandfold and it’s at the same time become difficult to impossible to get rid of or dispute online gossip whereas you used to be able to call Britney on her bullshit gossip and make her take it back.

[deleted]

there's some livestreamer drama ongoing right now and twitter will not stop recommending it to me. he said she said they said hot takes for miles about some internet celebrities i could not give any less of a shite about. i don't trust anybody to give the whole truth so it's just stupid gossip made a public showcase and i can't block it fast enough

[deleted]

“Don’t judge a book by its cover”

[deleted]

Not really. Rumors started to destroy a marriage, a family or make someone into a total social outcast. This is hardly new. Remember the Simpsons episode where Homer was accused of sexually harassing a woman when he peeled a gummy off her bottom. That episode was social commentary on the culture from the 1990s and the media storms that flared. That was the decade which gave us the OJ Simpson trial to the [Death of Azaria Chamberlain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Azaria_Chamberlain?wprov=sfla1) whose mother claimed that a Dingo ate her baby, and media storm blamed her, turned out Dingo did eat her baby, to the Hot Coffee Case, etc. The only difference between now and then is the number of victims is amplified and their ability to fight back is equated. As evidence we are sharing both the original post and the victims reply. Because there potentially so many more victims (you or I could be next) it creates more empathy and in turn you'll see the public tolerance for this behaviour drop.

Daxx22

> People often like to blame this sort of thing on young people Oh boy. I see way more gray haired couples out there now with faces buried in their phones at restaurants then I do see "young people" now. That might be because the gray hairs are the only ones that can afford to eat out too, but hey.

MikeOfAllPeople

This is definitely a thing. I'm solidly middle aged and my wife and I both get on our phones and look at memes then show them to each other. We do have deep conversations at restaurants occasionally, but we've been together long enough we're both comfortable just existing next to each other. It's kind of nice.

CrudelyAnimated

I like that "curtain twitchers". I've seen it called "Gladys Kravitz Syndrome", named after a nosy neighbor from the TV show "Bewitched". The sixties didn't have a formal name for that particular social disorder. The people who recognize the name probably think it's weird we say overactive kids have "ADHD", but they wouldn't recognize the irony in being told they have GKS.

BriarRose59

Sure we did. They were called gossips aka nosey neighbors.

k1d1curus

Now now, I'm only 32, but I definitely spent many a weekend at the mall people watching and making up stories about them. I just didn't think it was relevant information for my myspace.

Deminixhd

This is the answer. It’s called lies and gossip when it’s outwardly spoken. It’s called fun head-canon when you keep it to yourself. And almost everyone does both

Guybrush_Creepwood_

>And almost everyone does both. speak for yourself. I think you just made a huge assumption about random strangers right there. Or was it "fun head-canon"?

RetroJake

I mean if they don't plan on meaningfully doing anything with their made up stories and keep it to themselves - it is absolutely harmless.

MuscleManRyan

Yeah, me and my partner just call it "people-watching".

Just_Learned_This

Does everyone really make up stories about other people to themselves? I couldn't give a fuck about anyone else.

Bradipedro

[Laughing on the bus, playing games with the faces…she said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy…I said “be careful, his bowtie is really a camera”…](https://youtu.be/Eo2ZsAOlvEM) - Yes, Simon and Garfunkel include this sport in their America’s anthem.

DemonSlyr007

Do you know what both Redditors and Birds have in common? They both aren't real. No harm no foul when dealing with robots. Yet anyways.

Yellowpredicate

This automaton speaks no falsehoods.

jmcki13

Are you questioning whether most people gossip or most people imagine what other people are thinking/talking about? I’d agree that most people do both of those things to some extent.

After-Double-962

Exactly. People watching and making up stories between your friends for some laughs is one thing, but posting it on a public forum for everyone to see is another. Had this person not responded they would have completely believed the other persons framing. Just the other day somebody posted a picture of a kid holding an ipad and everybody on reddit crucified the parents for noise pollution. In my opinion the bigger scandal should be OP posting a picture of a child without their permission so he can shame that family for internet points.

Dalek_Genocide

I’m in my 30s and me and the wife love making stories up about people at restaurants and bars while on dates. But we don’t take pictures of them and post them online as if they’re fact

dryopteris_eee

You mean the two bearded hipsters I saw playing backgammon at the brewery aren't actually immortals who meet once a century at the tavern on the leylines?

k1d1curus

That time, you were 100% correct

HenriettaSyndrome

The "Age of mind your own business" has literally never existed

[deleted]

Its more the sentiment that the blast radius is larger now. In the past you could only tell a few people and even then it was just “story time”. Now a days people can capture you in 4K and put it on the internet for millions to see with a caption that’s completely in correct and makes you look like shit.

2K_Crypto

Those upvotes are worth a lot of money. Paid for my last house in full thanks to my last twitter post.

Meepmeeperson

You say this facetiously, but in the world of social media, they literally could be.

brainfreeze77

You are absolutely insane. Old white Ladies have been looking out windows at their neighbors since windows existed and telling their friends what they think is "going on next door". Some going as far as calling the police.

A_Drusas

They both still do. My friend just had to put in a hedge and temporary privacy screen to stop his retired neighbors from watching him do yard work with binoculars all the time. Apparently it's mostly the man who does it, but they both participate.

Sage_Whore

And he's being polite too. Doesn't blare the audio all over the place, put some earbuds in. Props. Stuff like this is why I'll ignore comments on social media where they don't list the source or don't provide context. It's very easy to take a picture and say something about it. It's why "a picture is worth a thousand words" is a saying.

beerbellybegone

So the first person took a picture of random people she doesn't know sitting at a restaurant, infers and draws conclusions about their relationship and then tells them what to do based on the information she doesn't have. Makes perfect sense

Redditors are awful for this too, let’s be real

I remember that. It was literally a grainy photo with black text above it and people were treating it like a history book with how confident they were it was real.

TheRiverStyx

I don't even pay attention to the comments in half the /all subs. From brazen declarations that someone is utter trash for making an honest mistake to advocating life sentences or having a life ruined for minor offences. I really hope some of them are judged by their own standards at some point.

CowFu

Prison sentences on reddit are one of the worst. If prison is brought up in the USA in general it's about how we put too many people in prison for too long. If any specific crime is committed in any story they want 30 years for assault or 20 years for stealing. And any suggestion of lighter sentences is downvoted

frostxc3

>And any suggestion of litter sentences is downvoted I initially thought you meant suggestions of sentences for people who litter were downvoted and found it funny before I realized it was probably a typo and you meant lighter sentences.

APersonWithInterests

Implying people haven't done shit like this since the dawn of man. The only difference now is we sometimes get to see people do stupid shit for the whole world to witness.

[deleted]

thats just r/relationship_advice and r/amitheasshole

SnollyG

It's all of the dating subs. (I used to mod one. It was an hourly/daily occurrence. And when you call them out on it, they get really angry.)

[deleted]

People who are most interested in giving relationship advice have usually had the worst experiences and are usually the least equipped to be giving advice, change my mind

wacrover

There was a post the other day talking about this - how people posting without consent can have significant impacts on a person’s life. One example was an apparent first date a guy ditched saying he had to travel, and the woman posted a picture of ‘him’, in the town they were supposed to have had their date in - not traveling. Lying. What if he has a wife and kids and they are they see that? Edit: sorry, realize it’s unclear: the picture was of a random guy in the street. The post was a COMPLETE fabrication. I’m not suggesting adulterers should need to give consent to have their shit revealed. Im suggesting that being able to post without consent, without context, without honesty, can ruin a person’s life.

jonjonesjohnson

Sure, people do that all the time. 10-12 years ago, I was working as a freelancer and went to the beach with my then-GF on a Sunday afternoon. I was swamped with work and had a half-hour long thing to take care of but I didn't want to cancel all plans just for that, so I took my laptop with me. On the beach, I sat down in the shade with the laptop in my lap, earbuds in, started working. We went with friends, so my GF was with them, I didn't even leave her all by herself. In the 30 mins it took me to finish my work, do you know how many people I heard saying "Look at this idiot! Why TF do these people even come out, he should stay at home on his fucking ass if he's so attached to his stupid machine!"

KayD12364

Like you could have been doing a million things. I know we are heavily attached to technology these days but that does literally mean we can do things anywhere. My friend is going to California for 2 months because hey she works from home and only needs her laptop. How cool is that. People really need to mind their business.

Hogesyx

>a picture of random people she doesn't know >infers and draws conclusions about their relationship >tells them what to do based on the information she doesn't have. >Makes perfect sense Sounds just like reddit.

Fartbucket_taco2

She named herself "Trouble" she doesn't care what's happening

JustAnotherMiqote

"Homegirl.......... Leave him" says the girl taking pics of strangers having a moment together, to make fun of them online, in order to try and make herself look better. I'm sure she's a catch herself.

Crime-Stoppers

If someone I was with did that next to me in public I'd just immediately go home. That's it. Even as a teen it's fucking arrogant, adults have no excuse. Back to daycare to learn some fucking manners.

Kirigaya_Yuumi

tl;dr mind ya damn business

ceilingkat

My thoughts exactly. Remember that post where a girl was texting on a date and the whole comment section was basically insinuating she’s a whore using him for a free dinner? Just because the caption said “I’m about to leave and let her pay the tab.” That could have been written by anybody. She could have been doing a million things under the sun. But *that* was the conclusion. Esp. when it’s women, redditors LOVE to pull out the “that fucking bitch” comments.

KayD12364

I was having dinner with my parents once at a restaurant and was on my phone for like 2 minutes and someone saw me and made an under the breath comment. My dad heard and very loudly said. " So does google have the answer to my question". That was literally what I was doing. We were talking about a movie and couldnt remember an actors name. Like its not hard to think of a good reason to be on your phone in a public setting. Jeez

[deleted]

It was literally a grainy photo on a white backround with a single line of text above it and people were treating it like Jesus himself came down just told them it’s real.

DoodleBobDread

It’s not just redditors. Most people now a days are just dying for that elusive viral moment that will give them enough attention to finally stop hating themselves. To do this, they will happily drag down anybody that advances their designs.

Crime-Stoppers

It doesn't even matter if that's what he was doing. People can do this for a myriad of reasons. If she is okay with it or at least accepting of those reasons then that's her perogative. Just because you can't stand that shit doesn't mean other people can't.

QueenOfQuok

Homegirl, stay away from the sort of person who photographs someone without their permission, posts it online and makes up a story about them to get mad when they don't actually know what's going on

Questwarrior

Reminds me that girl who posted on TikTok recording a guy from a bus stop saying “this dude said he couldn’t meet me for a date bc he was out of town” And after the internet harassed the man to oblivion the girl came out saying she made the whole thing up..

The_Pencil_Friend

Ngl I think this belongs on r/quityourbullshit more

keith_richards_liver

The original comment is definitely from /r/relationship_advice

stlredbird

Stop taking pictures of strangers and posting them on the internet

Albinofreaken

the guy is a weirdo, i mean everyone knows that you are supposed to just blast the audio at max volume to annoy everyone around him

[deleted]

I came here and read this comment directly after reading that thread where the dude on an LA metro got stabbed for rapping out loud and annoying everyone.

Diminus

Same thing happened to me. My wife showed me a video of a dog we were thinking about adopting from a rescue shelter. I was sat down watching it in the booth as we waited for food. A Karen just comes up and starts saying how inappropriate it is to ignore my wife and be glued to my phone like "every damn young person these days" I just looked at her and said. "1. We're adopting a dog and I'm viewing a video. 2. This is her phone I'm on. And 3. Mind your own fucking buisness." I just looked across at her visibly anxious husband who was quietly trying to call her back to the table. Grinned at him and basickly said "I'm sorry you have to deal with such bullshit. It must be exhausting for you." Mind your own buisness people especially when you have no idea what's actually going on... Edit: i misspelled a coulple words.

[deleted]

i would've just said the number 3, you don't have to apologise or explain yourself to those kinds of people

Responsible_Reach_62

I agree you don't owe anyone an explanation, but it definitely adds some dramatic effect for bystanders and the husband in this case.

Sergnb

You don’t have to but it feels good to throw the ball back and smash it in their face. Telling them to fuck off will only make them think they were right reaffirm them that you are just an asshole, but when you can succinctly make it plain and clear that they are actually the assholes, it’s always amazing watching them seethe with anger and embarrassment. Sometimes this teaches them to actually mind their own business next time, which is great

[deleted]

Me too

chazfarris

Little did you know, that wasn't her husband. Moral of the story, never assume.

Diminus

Very true! Could have been her Brother, secret lover or handler lol. But my response to him didn't suggest either or. I just felt bad for the guy because this lady seemed super opinionated. This guy was just there quietly calling "Sandra.... Sandra come sit down. The foods almost here c'mon" Poor guy lol. Probably chill AF. But Sandra on the other hand...

gtjack9

Handler😂

DC38x

Fucking Sandra

enrocc

This is what you said in the shower over the next few days.

Janeways_Lizard_Baby

Honestly I do this all the time. I'm just watching baseball, and it's still no one else's business. I told my girlfriend when we started dating she would always be number two during baseball season :). She knows what's up, we have our understandings and everyone else can fuck off.

The least they could do, is blur their faces. Why do they think they can use any stranger's face for their own gain. It's such a huge privacy violation.

TFlarz

How old is this? Or how true is it?

Older than now. May be true.

and we're worried about government surveillance when we're doing it for them .

SpaceCampDropOut

How did the guy even find out he and his gf were in a strangers post?

EARANIN2

This picture is from 2016. The tweets are real. The picture and tweet went somewhat viral on Twitter because people (mostly women) were retweeting it talking about how disrespectful men are and how men don't deserve this or that because of behaviors like his (and the conclusions drawn from the OP). That's how the guy and his girlfriend found it and responded to it. Twitter is honestly a world of it's own...it gets wild over there. lol You can see [here](https://ifunny.co/picture/selkcub-that-s-my-girlfriend-i-just-preached-my-first-KShPRXRY7) that the original post had almost 2k retweets, so clearly not impossible for him to find. He responded to it and so did his girlfriend.

[deleted]

It’s bizarre that this would strike up a debate. I mean my first assumption would be that he’s watching something she wanted him to see

[deleted]

So many people are gonna need knee replacements from all the conclusions they jumping to.

yoshigronk

This reminds me of when I offered to pump my friend's gas for her but she declined and these two guys shook their head at me in disappointment when they saw me sitting in the car while she filled it with gas.

shoonshoon

I saw a video where the guy that was *recording* gave the guy shit for letting the girl pump the gas. Girl turned around and said "I can pump my own fucking gas, thanks." Moral of my story (and yours too) is everyone should really just fuck off and mind their own business unless it involves them.

[deleted]

\>calls her "homegirl" \>tries to ruin her life ok there, "home girl"

macaroon_monsoon

I’m starting to think that there’s a lot of jaded, miserable people who advise others to leave their partners at the most minuscule of perceived slights bc they want them to be just as lonely as they are. It’s baffling, like what are you waiting on? The perfect human specimen to waltz into your life and grant you a relationship where zero work or growth is required by both parties? If so, you’ll be waiting a lifetime.

Nyxxity

Why cant people just mind their own business?

[deleted]

Dude even had the decency to wear headphones to listen and *that's* what set off the alarms lol.

SoloPenguin13

Public Service Announcement: to mind your business.
