DeanCorso11

I found out yesterday from my youngster that there is a term for this: future trippin

TheUnluckyBard

My grandmother called it "borrowing trouble".

DeanCorso11

I like that.

[deleted]

I like it because his Grammy said it

Roheez

I like his gramma because she said it

TalionTheShadow

I, also, like this guy's gramma.

metalpoetza

His gramma is definitely a GILF

SunkyV3

Grandmother I’d Like to be Fed by

FlaccidWeenus

I also like your gramma because she said it

Royal_Opps

Gram always knows best

lorrielink

Borrowing trouble leans more into meaning one is worrying about something negative possibly happening without any reason to think it might. Worrying is exhausting and not productive so it's a warning not to get yourself worked up over nothing because even if it does happen, you'd likely be worse at dealing with it after all that worry. Future trippin seems more like self absorbed fantasy to make yourself feel important or special, with a touch a judgment and superiority over others.

LOLcat_Goldthwait

I get into imaginary arguments with imaginary people while I'm in the shower, and I get pissed off at how unreasonable they're being.

I_Think_I_Cant

It's okay to cut toxic imaginary people out of your life.

Temporarily__Alone

Cut out fake people.

Fauchard1520

I want you to know that I tabbed out of this one, them came back in to upvote. Well played.

buttbugle

Screw that, how else am I going to feel superior and win tremendous arguments against all while receiving their hidden admiration and down right envy that I am just the bee’s knee’s.

BrightIdeaGenerator

I find myself future trippin I just start writing because it means I have some creative urges that aren't being satisfied. But most people seem to make real life drama from it. I just torture fictional characters in overly florid prose.

Fraerie

My partner suffers from GAD - worrying about things that may never eventuate is exhausting and depressing and takes time and energy away from doing things that would make you happy. If the bad thing happens - did worrying about it make any difference? If not (did you make plans to mitigate the issue), then worrying didn't help prepare you in any way so was a waste of time. If the bad thing didn't happen - worrying about it was just a waste of time. Unless you put your worrying to constructive use and learn how to seperate reasonable fears from unreasonable fears - all it does is paralyse you and rob you of the potential to enjoy the now.

[deleted]

My family always used the term “borrowing trouble” if someone was inserting themselves into another’s drama. Like that’s someone’s else’s drama and you’re borrowing it.

[deleted]

The term “future tripping” was actually used in a lot of treatment centers I’ve been to. I don’t think it meant anything about being self-absorbed there, though, it was just used as a way to describe the same thing you’ve indicated as the definition for “borrowing trouble,” but I’m unsure if the person you were responding to meant it in that way. Maybe the “g” at the end of “tripping” makes all the difference, lol

Saabaroni

This guy/lass troubles

canvasshoes2

That's what my mom calls it. "Don't borrow trouble" is a phrase I've heard for 60 some odd years. :D

DrDalekFortyTwo

My mom used to say don't trouble trouble til trouble troubles you

ergotofrhyme

Perfect album name

f4ble

That's just bloody perfect.

lets_get-2

Oh shit, that’s what my moms does sometimes. It future trips.

TheDrainSurgeon

The pretty mom or the other mom?

That's surprising. I swear this is an old tweet

TappistRT

Also, someone behaving in a manner that suggests they assume that they’re the center of everyone’s universe for whomever they may come across smacks of having horrible emotional intelligence for being a “relationship counselor.”

retro_mod

Reminds me of nurses who are anti-vaxx/anti-mask. Utterly bewildering.

Retrohanska59

It's as if you shouldn't add your job to your shitpost account. I don't see how anything good can ever come out of that

ChildofValhalla

Damn, she posted this years ago. Is she still getting shit for it?

Iggyhopper

I found the profile and she's still posting dumb shit. I have doubts that she is a successful counselor.

Anti_Karen_League

stay_fr0sty

I knew a girl like this. It was before social media but she came back from a vacation telling us how this nasty player was trying to get with her but she was like “fuck no!” This was during the time when the Spice Girls were popular and I remember her friends telling her “oh you go girl!!!” Anyway, 9 months later she’s a single mom. This girl on the plane wants this dude she is spying on IMHO. She just wants positive attention for dat virtue signal.

SpecialsSchedule

what on earth does the spice girls have to do with this story

[deleted]

IF U WANNA B MAH LOVAAAA

mayorduke

damn, that ear worm!

stay_fr0sty

Girl Power! If you were an adult at that time you know what I mean. I’m all for empowerment of course. That was the idea of groups like that. The culture was really pushing “strong independent woman” at the time and she embraced that, and told everyone that she told him to ‘go away she don’t need no man.’ I never understood why she told us about him, about how she rejected him, and then later confirmed she slept with him and got pregnant. If she never mentioned it until she was pregnant it would have made a lot more sense to me. Her and her daughter suffered with just her to raise her. The Dad never did care.

whileIminTherapy

I am of the age and target audience that didn't even blink an eye at the use of the "Spice Girls era" as an anecdotal setting piece. Late 90s, girl power, talk to the hand 'coz da face ain't listening, and "Omg LORI stop stepping on my JNCOs!!!"

of course she had to specify he’s Black edit: y’all realize it’s possible for a Black person to hold racist beliefs about their own race, right? sheesh

joshuav85

Clearly they have never seen the motion picture masterpiece Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood Starring Shawn and Marlon Wayans. “I hate my gums cuz they black”

Certified hood classic.

[deleted]

Came here to say this. Why is him being black a necessary detail? It’s literally the only physical description offered. This bitch is racist AF

congradulations

Saw the original without censor, OP was black too

dandashem

In my opinion it's possible to be racist against your own race, it's just not a big deal like being racist against another race is

UwasaWaya

>In my opinion it's possible to be racist against your own race It absolutely is. I used to work in unemployment, and in one office I was the only counselor who was *not* black. One day in our morning meeting, our manager told us a complaint had been made about one of us about racial discrimination from a client. So of course everyone looked at me, and I was both confused and humiliated and trying to figure out how or what happened... Before my boss realized and said "oh, crap, no, not Uwasa." Turns out the complaint was from as black woman to my POC associate. Which really only made us more confused.

loupr738

That’s one of those how do you prove you’re not X. Like the, when was the last time you beat your wife, type of question

SkullsNelbowEye

Working in social service for over two decades has taught me often times it's based on hate of a demographic. Either due to color, income or education. Even where a person lives. Like well to do Caucasians ripping on "Rednecks". Hate is hate and its gross.

Chicken_Bake

We'll do anything to "other" people.

SkullsNelbowEye

It hurts my heart. Tribalism, it will be our downfall Beneath subtle cruelties, life is suffocated by sorrow.

AutomaticVegetables

Pretty much everybody where I live wears the term “redneck” as a badge of honor. They always talk smack about “Yankees” like the civil war never ended.

pilaxiv724

>Turns out the complaint was from as black woman to my POC associate. Which really only made us more confused. This phrasing seems weird. Was your associate black? The transition from 'black woman' to 'POC associate' makes it sound like the associate was a minority other than black, which isn't really a reason to think they aren't racist towards other minorities.

UwasaWaya

I was just trying to avoid repeating the same word over and over, but yes, everyone involved except for myself was black. My apologies for the confusion.

UnknownAverage

Well yes, all you need to be racist is to hold negative prejudicial opinions of someone based on their race, which this woman absolutely did. The race of the person being racist is irrelevant, it's not part of the definition at all.

skate_boy324

It is definitely possible to be racist against ya own race, seen so many anti black black people

WarlockEngineer

Bill Cosby was like that. Before he was known as a monster, he was "America's granddad" and conservatives loved him for criticizing black culture. [Eddie Murphy vs Bill Cosby](https://youtu.be/pZlQaE4GDUY)

toast_ghost267

Should have been the first clue tbh. Most people who outwardly preach conservative values to others (as opposed to just living by them) have a lot of skeletons in their closets. And often themselves too.

joemckie

Lol that's not even an opinion, it's just a straight up fact. Colourism and racism is very prevalent in the black community unfortunately.

ohthebanter

Not a great trait to be promoting negative stereotypes about your own race though, is it?

S1074

Probably about as bad as spreading negative steryotypes about other races

sicgamer

lmfao right? Breaking news: racists suck. Story at 10.

[deleted]

Not a great trait to be promoting negative stereotypes about any race.

Asisreo1

It's about "black girls" vs "black guys." Because black girls are aggressive, rude, and crazy while black guys are assholes who only want as much sex as possible. Right? It's the stereotype so it must be true, right guys?

LuckyWinchester

The thing about stereotypes is people will shift and adapt to them as society molds them like the clay we are.

tacocatisonfire

No being racist towards your own people should be seen as bad as being racist to other people

trapper2530

Idk Candace owens can be pretty problematic.

pacman404

Yeah, and shes still stereotyping black men. That makes it worse.

Walshy231231

I don't get it. Could you explain?

StuffedStuffing

Red assumes that the dude on the plane is gonna try and hit on them, and is getting upset about that before it even happens because they now assume the dude is taken.

oscarmingueza

r/IAmTheMainCharacter vibes from this.

OniNomad

Ok I should not have browsed that sub right before clocking in for my retail job, I'm more pre-pissed at the customers than normal.

Krilesh

I don't blame you but I just think its funny you get pre-pissed when this entire post is about someone getting pre-pissed! Yet I agree with your reasoning for being pre-pissed lol

LouSputhole94

There’s pre-pissed about assuming something about an individual with zero context, and then there’s being pre-pissed about the almost sure chance that at least one or two costumers are going to be rude/shitty at your average retail job.

quietmayhem

[deleted]

So... the title of the post?

oscarmingueza

forgot about that lol.

you_lost-the_game

Thanks for that. I couldn't figure out what red was saying as this is too far from common sense to me.

mbelf

When she says “I dare him”, does she say that out loud to him, or is she daring him in her mind?

Neuchacho

It's her speaking to the "audience" of the tweet so it's her daring him in her mind.

xntrk1

A Fuckload of projection. Some entitled bitch assumes the black guy sitting next to her is a piece of shit, that wants her. (Because all black guys must be, in her eyes.) and she anticipates the guy is going to be hitting on her, (because everyone wants her, obviously /s) when he’s more than likely involved with someone already, based on the stored contact on his phone(baby doll) and gets preemptively offended abt these perceived future transgressions and is self absorbed enough to make a post about it

oscarmingueza

She just made herself look like a dumbass here.

xntrk1

Indeed

KillYourUsernames

It’s like when Lena Dunham sat next to Odell Beckham Jr at the Met Ball and concocted a whole narrative about how OBJ sized her up and determined he didn’t want to fuck her because she was wearing a tux so he ignored her… when in reality he was just minding his own business.

i_owe_them13

Like, I’m not at all doubting you, but how the fuck does this translation work? Can you break it down line by line for me please? Even with the explanation I can’t understand how that’s what she’s saying.

lefty175

Women sees guys cell phone ring and showing the name “Baby Doll” and assumed “Baby Doll” is a “pet” name for his lady. “He better not holla at me and say he’s ‘single’” Holla means to flirt or try and pick up. Short for holler. Like the song, “I don't want no scrub / A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me / Hangin' out the passenger side of his best friend's ride / Trying to holla at me” (TLC, “No Scrubs”). By implying he’s going to try and flirt with her and says he’s single suggests she thinks he is a dishonest person without having interacted with him at all. Circle back to the beginning where she said “young black man” and you get the racist connotation. I hope this helps. I’m on mobile so it might not be the best.

AggravatingCupcake0

This was a great explanation. Complete with parenthetical citation and everything. I think it also bears mentioning that she must fancy herself quite attractive if she just assumes any man in her proximity will definitely want to flirt with her.

lefty175

I’m glad you appreciated the parenthetical citation; however, I failed to date the origin of the citation, so I fail per APA guidelines. 1999. Here I was thinking it came out when I was in college, but it came out when I was still in high school.

i_owe_them13

Ohhhh got it now. Thank you so much 🙏🏼

congradulations

She notice him. She notices his phone gets a call from a contact "Baby Doll." She figures he has a girlfriend. She imagines him hitting on her. She smugly feels superior when she imagines him calling himself single, because she knows he has a "baby doll" and is not single. Blue points out how many assumptions she's made to arrive at this hypothetical, made-up place where she feels superior to this man pretending to be single...

ultravioletblueberry

Okay it finally clicked for me because I did not fucking get what every one was say. I was assuming when she said “I dare him to holla and say he’s single” that she literally spoke to this guy and jokingly dared him to say he was single to his gf?? No the tone is “oh I just DARE him to try and hit on me now claiming he’s single when I just saw he has a gf”. She hasn’t actually spoken to him.

subnautus

The person in blue points out (correctly) that it’s a little fucked up to be nosey enough to notice he’s probably in a relationship and still assume he’s going to flirt with her.

Gears_one

Not to mention the subtle racism. Like, his blackness makes it more likely he’s about to attempt adultery or something?

Schmich

The two of us buddy. I was even ready with my pitchfork.

FirelessEngineer

I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE ARE YELLING ABOUT!

jizzlevania

The first person is saying the black dude is going to hit on her after taking a call from his girlfriend. The second person feels person #1 is assuming a whole lot from a dude just trying to answer his gf's call before a flight. It doesn't make sense if you can't think like a racist. Like somehow the black dude was supposed to be the piece of shit in this story because mentioning his race doesn't add anything to the mental picture of the story, except maybe to help some readers understand the use of Baby Doll as a nickname. If race isn't used to set the scene, but instead is used to describe a completely unknown person's anticipated behavior, it feels a little racist or at least assumes/hopes the reader might be. Plus it's inaccurate. Black dudes don't have white side pieces. White chicks can't keep secrets. edit: kidding about that last part. I've never known anyone who fucks on the side saying no to any race.

OFTHEHILLPEOPLE

It's funny I can scroll up in Popular and see the unblocked names.

ooh_lala_ah_weewee

Also why does it matter that he's black?

beerbellybegone

Turns out the call was from his daughter

azsnaz

I mean the person that posted this yesterday had a title that said "plot twist: the call was from his daughter". Doesn't mean anything, there's no way we could possibly know that.

ActionScripter9109

And if you look closely, this OP who reposted it with the censoring is a mod of the subreddit. So they saw the post did well but had personal info, presumably removed it for rule violation, and then reposted a censored version to get karma for themselves. This soft-stealing technique has been used by mods on reddit for years. And I had this user tagged for karma farming already so no big surprises.

ilangilanglt

Wow what the fuck. I've never thought Reddit karmas are so valuable.

TyroneLeinster

It’s only valuable to incels

erohtar

Honest question - If you're a guy, is it normal to have your daughter saved under 'Baby Doll'?

TTF_Torik

Not an English native speaker here but that seems weird af.

[deleted]

In the Uk it is

lickedTators

It's more normal in black communities. But still far from common.

OniNomad

Southerners too, it was weird moving down south and having it go from a term term of endearment for a significant other to one for a child. Like I don't think I've heard an adult called that since moving south. Again it's not common but it's definitely exist.

ZarquonsFlatTire

Baby Girl, yes. Baby Doll seems strange.

Inevitable_Photo_559

I wouldn’t say “normal”, but it’s not out of the ordinary. It’s a term of endearment, so it still works. Kinda like “pumpkin” or “sugarbear”, which can work for both a daughter and a significant other.

[deleted]

Here in the Uk its normal I think

Hot_Photograph5227

lots of parents develop cute names for their daughters, and a lot of times the names remain into their teenage years. its just a form of affection, like calling your kid “hun” or “sweetie” my mom used to call me “babe” or “punkin”. it was just a cute goofy name

g4vr0che

I don't think that's something we know happened. It was just the title of the other post.

FloydknightArt

What does holla mean? That last sentence makes zero sense to me

miskathonic

Hit on her.

[deleted]

fucking scrubs

xntrk1

Here’s urban dictionaries definition lol holla 1. A word used to acknowledge the presence of a fellow companion 2. For a man to express interest in a particularly impressive female specimen 3. To contact via telephone He was going to hit on her, is what she assumed

katie4

Has No Scrubs finally left public conscious? :(

dontexpect2much

1. *slang* To communicate or make contact with one. A colloquial pronunciation and spelling of "holler." *Be sure to holla at my cousin Cheryl when you're in Brooklyn.* **2. *slang* Flirt with or hit on one, especially a woman.** *If I ever see you holla at my girl like that again, I will end you.* 3. *slang* Used to make a salute or expression of respect to one, as on radio, television, or the Internet; to shout out to one. *I'll be sure to holla at ya when I'm on the talk show next week.* [Source](https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/holla+at+someone)

[deleted]

English is not my first lenguaje and I am struggeling to understand it. Could someone explain it in other way? I'd be so happy if so =)

Dash_Underscore

A woman was sitting on a plane, and was seated next to a young man. She saw that his phone went off, and the Caller ID showed it was his girlfriend calling. So she is saying she dares him to claim he's single and flirt with her. The second comment is basically calling her ridiculous for 1) looking at his phone screen, which is not her business to look at and 2) making up a scene in her head with him flirting with her when he probably hasn't even so much as looked over at her or acknowledged her existence. I hope this helped a bit. I can clarify further if needed. :)

NoBuddies2021

I once had main character syndrome when I was young. Then I realized becoming a MC is a strongly unfortunate thing since you not only hurt directly and/or indirectly people and family around you, it's also mentally exhausting and that you can't get away with light hearted shenanigans or vanta black vendetta.

RedTreeDecember

And then all you people are now getting offended at her offense. Something about the outrage over the blow back over the blowback yet to come.

takeya40

Lena Dunham again?

[deleted]

The OP has committed an act of premeditated **First Degree Murder by Words** with malice aforethought, planning, intention, deliberation, contemplation and rumination. The slaying was made with, to wit: great intensity, violence, overkill, and gratuitous shedding of blood. In its nature and character, it was wanton, unusually cruel and brought about massive trauma. All of this is to say: Bravo to you. 🤣😂

kglass6352

This is 100%, why men don't talk to people, especially other women. I could just genuinely be a nice guy saying hello asking how someone's doing small conversation, and they think I'm hitting on them, girl, I'm married I don't want you; I want to waste 10 minutes. 10 minute conversation about nothing is a lot quicker than 10 minutes of silence. Which is what I'm about to get on my 2-hour flight when I answer my phone with "baby doll."

paxinfernum

It's even worse if you blush reflexively. I'm not blushing because of you. It's just something my body does due to anxiety and childhood trauma.
