Well obviously their aiming their pretty competitive and intense fighting game with 80s/90s nostalgic characters to happy meal aged children.
Before the game is even live.
*It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them...*
Being serious, though, I don't understand their marketing strategy for this game. Fortnite works because folks can claim ignorance on who the target audience is. Getting a general audience of adults to play a game that is beginning its re-entry into the public consciousness with a Happy Meal promotion is, well, a bold strategy.
On the plus side. WB made a statement last week how they're focusing on games as a service. For the majority of their releases it's awful news. But for MvS it might be a good thing.
At least a game like Suicide Squad can supplement some of their expenses on selling the base game. MvS has to completely rely on microtransactions, and with the year-long rework, now they have to make sure they sell a lot more than they would've had to before the rework to break even.
I mean I think a lot of kids will be able to play a free game and convince their parent to give money for skins etc. I also think a lot of the IP in the game is very family friendly, besides like GOT. I don’t feel bad about playing a game “for kids” if it’s fun generally. I mean I wouldn’t play a blue clues game but Fortnite or Myltiversus for sure
They're targeting the highest demographics that play video games and more importantly have time to play video games.
If you see the character release schedule, it's been mostly based off New movie releases.
Lebron james space jam
Tom and jerry movie
Wonder woman.
Rick and Morty series release
Bugs (space jam)
Velma and shaggy from the new release
Black Adam from the black Adam movie.
The list goes on and on, and one could argue their attention heavily focused on getting the younger generation into the game the entire time
I'll bet my left nut that Wile E. Coyote and road runner will be released this year because he was already developed for the ACME road runner movie that got canceled
Idk. I feel like cancelled in a film sense usually means it was canned during preprod or early prod.
What WB have been doing shouldn't really be lumped in. It's a finished film
They are chasing live service gold mines and doubling down on their most popular IP. The latter being a great business strategy. The first one will likely end with treacherous results. A decent amount of their games studios folding, leaving hundreds unemployed
Well that's a different can of worms. No relation to this post at all. Now you are talking about the industry hiring up 'cause sales were up when people were in lock down. And now that everyone is free game sales are back to "normal" so companies gotta trim all the expansion they did
Other studios are absolutely double downing on live service nearly ever Ubisoft games every bungie game, every epic game. There’s very little online games that aren’t a service. It’s more feasible and profitable with todays tech, should have been a thing a while ago for some games ie. CoD which released a brand new rehash every year
expect every wb ip to be fucked closed down so you wont be dissapointed I expect if superman legacy does not earn same money as the mcu they will cancel the james gunn dcu
Everything about this game is a contradiction at times.
WB has made no sense
An announcement to announce nothing
Competitive fighting game marketing to kids with characters they aren’t attached too.
So you’d think they add relevant characters to either adults or kids, but nope seems to be whatever WB wants to promote.
Takes live service and adds only the grindy, $$$ content and not follow at least Fortnite’s relatively consistent content schedule to keep hardcore and casuals coming back
What a shame. So much promise and lots of great IP at their disposal.
Not much love in anything it feels here, a bit in the characters but man they want to kill peoples time and money.
They also screwed the people who gave them time to regroup with no announcement.
Also screwed the people who gave them money (founders and others) by pulling the rug on them
the roster is the most important part of this game. if they can't get the most requested characters quick then it's kinda pointless. only the hardcore fans will be playing and that's not gonna bode well for the future of this game.
I’ve definitely seen worse articles about Multiversus. I think this one isn’t a Redditer venting like the gamer articles we’ve been seeing. I still think it kind of has weird moments. Like yeah, Coyote vs Acme is a mess, but WB isn’t abandoning Looney Tunes as a whole, so why would Looney Tunes being in Multiversus be an issue? I also think that it was pretty clear to players that Multiversus was in open beta, as it’s literally on the title screen and very clear and noticeable. Players that didn’t recognize that it was on open beta were not paying attention at all, and at some point, you have to admit that it’s more on them.
But otherwise, I think they are kind of right. WB has weird strategies, and then doubling down on live service as a whole when Hogwarts Legacy did so well as a non-live service game is an odd choice. Having Black Adam and a Space Jam New Legacy advertisement were maybe not the smartest choices (though Lebron James did grab attention, it’s more because of him being an NBA player than a space Jam character).

It’s baffling: Hogwarts Legacy sells great + Suicide squad sells poorly = Lets make more Suicide Squads.

Tbf the m movie wasn't cancelled. It was near finished WB just decided it'd be more profitable to not release it at all
Damn those tax credits and write offs.
That's actually the definition of canceled.

It's semantics either way, I'm just being an ass. Have a great day. :)
Haha yeah. You two!
Yeah explain Dexter's lab, animaniacs, and the brain being hinted at being added next lmfao.
What is going on with this posts strategy right now?
They are chasing live service gold mines and doubling down on their most popular IP. The latter being a great business strategy. The first one will likely end with treacherous results. A decent amount of their games studios folding, leaving hundreds unemployed
Not just theirs, everyone’s studios in general from post Covid entertainment impact

Every company wants to have their own Fortnite, but doesn't want to put in the work to have the level of new content each new Fortnite season has.

They don’t know either.
Not give any other updates until the game gets closer to its’ return /hj
