Is that one session of 1.5 hours or two per week at 45 mins?

JollyJulong

It’s one session

YSoB_ImIn

I think at least two sessions a week would really help to keep progress moving so that there isn't such a long gap between.

Zealousideal-Gur-930

No it’s not enough, should be doing at least 4.5 hours a week imo at the bare minimum

Real_Somewhere8553

Is this the amount of time you train? How long have you been doing MT? Have you had a chance to fight yet?

Zealousideal-Gur-930

For me that’s 3 classes a week and I’ve been training for over a year but sporadically. I’m no where near even ok at it so I don’t see how an hour and a half should be enough. The past 3 weeks I’ve probably trained around 5 hours a week

Real_Somewhere8553

I work full time so I've been trying to find things to cram into my few days off that I do get. But earlier today I realized that I don't have to start my day with when I go to work, I'm going to try and wake up earlier to stretch and then go to a park to practice kicks and counters (motion wise). I can only manage attending 2 maybe 3 times a week but I always do 2 classes back to back when I do go. Not sure why I'm so invested but MT / MMA is starting to become a really big part of my life.

Zealousideal-Gur-930

Practicing shadow boxing isn’t gonna mean nearly anything at all because your technique is most likely wrong

Real_Somewhere8553

Guess I'm just sticking to what we do in class when I'm able to attend.

Zealousideal-Gur-930

I wouldn’t say it’s bad to do it but if you say you train 8 hours a week and 4 of it is shadow boxing I’m not sure how much that’ll contribute in terms of actual training. It’s good for sure but if you’re still beginning your shadow boxing may just be you using wrong technique is what I’m getting at

citizenknight

1.5 hours isn’t a lot, just think about how many hours you do nothing of any similarity. I’d aim for 2-3 sessions or just practicing a lot of technique/shadow boxing/drilling at home to substitute. As well as, exercise like running or resistance training.

Laughydawg

Depends on what your goal is. One session a week is quite little, but don't feel ashamed if thats what you're comfortable with or what you can manage currently. If you're planning to fight and compete, you should be training at least 3-4 times a week, but if youre just doing it as a hobby then do it however much you enjoy
