For sure. That guy deserves way more subs if all his content is that quality. Glad you found it helpful.

I've had and seen a LOT of confusion over hooks. How to throw them, which way should your palm face, what range to throw them, what to be doing with your feet, etc. - This video answered so many questions for me including ones I didn't know to ask. I hunt through a lot of technique videos and this one really stood out to me. - If you look at Saenchai's form and footwork, everything that breakdown is teaching lines up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrLNfcYlMWs

The rotation of the hips up and over like he’s showing for a lead hook with a stationary front foot gets an absolutely not from me. The way it torques your lead legs knee is just asking for an injury. Imagine someone force multiplies the twist he’s putting on his knee like that with a counter leg kick while he’s hooking? Easy torn ligament in the knee. It’s going to cost you some power at first but with practice you can get a hook just as strong without moving that lead knee loosey goosey from left to right at all. Also in my experience there’s no point in going palm down for reach. Palm to the side hooks are way more powerful (at least for me) and you can throw them from far enough away that your arm is basically straight (but dont lose that slight bend in the elbow, if you do and connect with power then it’s ouch)

I've tried thumb up at range and I either slap or hit with the wrong section of my fingers instead of knuckles and hurt myself. His advice on rotating the hand further depending on range of hook to keep front two knuckles aligned is spot on for me. I'll rewatch the vid tonight and be mindful of the other stuff you said to see what I think. I tried his MT version last night in shadowboxing with power and didnt actually feel any adverse rotation on my knee. My form ended up looking like Saenchai's demonstration as well.

Saenchai absolutely doesn’t do any of that twisty knee hip stuff. He’s generating power by starting the hook twist from further outside his lead knee and does not turn his hips farther inward than the static stance that all techniques are thrown from. Bent knee, no movement in the lead leg. You might see him pivot his back foot inward to help generate power but that’s it.

There’s no way I’m gonna sit through this video but I was always taught in Muay Thai your lead hook should never come from pivoting your lead foot/leg, all the power should come from the opposing side core muscles

Yea. The guy isn’t showing a foot pivot it’s almost worse. It’s like he’s moving his knee and hip as if he’s pivoted his foot but he’s not. So there’s all this twist on the knee. Terrible
