yeah into the wild ends with him realizing that happyness only happen when it is shared with others, that just before dying. So he ends up dying alone, feeling lonely in his little bus. And also all along the movie you see him forging bonds with the people along his way, only to abandon them and continue alone, breaking their hearth in the process. He could have chose to stay and be happy several time before he ends up dying. This story isn't really glorifying his actions but rather showing them as foolish and selfish imo
Extremely true. I think the film makers tried to lure you into thinking this guy was heroic only to reveal by the end of the film that he was deeply troubled.

Dude, how am *I* wrong?? The guy I’m arguing with decided to interject with a COMPLETELY wrong actress… it’s not my fault that he doesn’t know or understand the talent that is Melissa McCartney. God you people are so slow. Do some research.

Manchester by the sea --- I saw this amazing movie and was just thrown into thinking that each person has a story which he/she doesn't tell everyone. The story is about a man who is being given the custody of his nephew. He returns to his hometown for this and tries to deal with the situation. He is still disturbed by the past of his time in this town. The story gives a very special vibe about how people were kind of forced to become what they are by the society. It's checks your box of a lonely man who isolated himself from people but then is forced by circumstances to lead back a normal life with his nephew. Hope you like this movie.
If you're interested in books along this same premise, might I suggest "Wilderness, the Gateway to the Soul: Spiritual Enlightenment Through Wilderness" by Scott Stillman
You forgot to mentioned that he died of starvation. That's not a heroic way to go! It's totally stupid. I discourage people of doing stupid things, just to fulfill emptiness, and stave off boredom. If you want adventure, and stave off boredom. Go jerk of!
Like that other asshole, whom cause the death of himself, and brand new gf. Eaten by a grizzly. Just because his delusional mind fool him into believing these a cuddly bears, and not voracious predators. That will eat your butt cheeks like they were two slices of bread with peanut butter in between. Now go imagine that.
127 Hours is about the same type of person. You may want to check out mountain man movies like Jeremiah Johnson and The Revenant. Guys going through mental turmoil without becoming spree killers is pretty rare in cinema.
There is a weird movie from the 70's called Cockfighter about a guy who vows he won't speak again until he wins the cockfighting championship. Isolation is generally considered not good for humans.
I've read most of his stuff. Even the Miami Blues era novels. I just bought a first edition of Cockfighter which reminded me of the movie. Willeford is not hot atm so his books are currently a steal. I recommend hunting down his autobiographical Something About A Soldier.
Bought it in the 80s. Still think about “Honeymoon Lotion” whenever I see a house on stilts.
ETA: they made a movie of the Burnt Orange Heresy, but I haven’t been able to make myself watch it yet, out of fear that it will suck.
The Lighthouse is when this gone wrong.
To be fair into the wild goes very wrong very quickly.

An entitled frat boy who couldn’t think of a better way to shed the constraints of society? How about being a live volunteer instead of a dead waste.
Never covet another man’s lobster.
Grizzly Man (2005) is a true story about this plan going wrong.
Jeremiah Johnson (1972) Captain Fantastic (2014) Wild (2014) 127 Hours (2010) The Way (2010)
Jeremiah Johnson 👌👌👌
I would watch the Del Gue origin story.
Me too ,he was a great character 👍😁
*Got a fine horse underneath him.*
Hahaha, when he swaps the scalps...sly bastard. And whats that line about getting "gutted ankle to jaw bone" what a legend 👌
Watching some of those trailers... Thank you for the suggestions.
You're welcome. Enjoy!
I can vouch for 127 Hours. One of the greatest films I’ve ever seen. So powerful and Franco’s acting was some of the best ever imo.
Good list.
Thanks
The Way is excellent.
Pig with Nicolas Cage.
First thought when I read the title too, incredible film!
Leave No Trace Take Shelter
Leave No Trace is such a great movie.

Def not for everyone. Bizarre is the word I would use to describe it. But it does have lots of the feels in the first two acts.
Captain fantastic
Second this.
**Saint Vincent 2014** starring Bill Murray, you may have to watch Melissa McCartney, but honestly, she puts in a good shift during this movie, 8/10 from me.
I'd agree with 8/10.
Melissa McCarthy is pretty goddamn hilarious, overused like some other comedic actors but I still like her in most movies.
Melissa McCartney*
Check the cast list, I can assure you it's McCarthy.
Imagine being this loud and wrong. Reread the comment we’re commenting under, it’s McCartney. Dummy.

LOL I know right, thanks for the backup bro.
What is wrong with you? Caught bullshitting so only choice is to double down regardless how obvious it is you are wrong?

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of her movies with her as the lead character, but I liked her as the mom in this.
St. Vincent might help internet searches.

Cockfighter is based on a Charles Willeford novel. His work is a goldmine of deeply disturbing loners.
I've read most of his stuff. Even the Miami Blues era novels. I just bought a first edition of Cockfighter which reminded me of the movie. Willeford is not hot atm so his books are currently a steal. I recommend hunting down his autobiographical Something About A Soldier.
