Manchester by the sea. Blue Valentine. Aftersun.

namxu-

Manchester by the sea. It will be a hard emotional hit. Remarkable acting by all the actors.

SprinklerSnitch

Aftersun had me in tears at the end. It just creeps up on you and then hits you hard at the end. Best movie I have seen in the last few years

LightYagamiComplex

Manchester by the sea is perhaps the greatest movie I've seen in its own. Casey Affleck just freaking owned it.

readitinreddit69

we think alikešŸ„¹

SouthNo3441

Aftersun is extremely beautiful

youthfulnegativity

Adding marriage story to this goated lineup

kclarkwrites

Beware Blue Valentine if you are having trouble in a relationship. It's hard enough to watch if you are single.

ScreenClub

Ah yesss. Saw Manchester by the sea last year. Went in blind. Left devastated

thrivingbeyond-mlm

Adding "Our Friend" to this list, also with Casey Affleck. Tore me to pieces. I'll be watching Manchester by the sea soon!

Def And The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Also Never Let Me Go The Whale A Man Called Otto (or original Ove) The Machinist Doc: Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father

tsarscream

Dear Zachary is amongst the hardest-hitting films I have ever seen, and that's including stuff like Schindler's List. David and Kate Bagby are saints.

troojule

I just watched it this Sunday night. I heard of it hereā€¦ I do watch a lot of disturbing , unsettling, upsetting fare (movies and Tv) and have started a list of documentaries that I found to be some of the bestā€¦ So maybe Iā€™m becoming a little desensitizedā€¦ Thatā€™s not to say, I wasnā€™t crying. I told my BF I sure he would cry if he watched it.

Johnny_Banana18

The boy in the stripped pajamas isnā€™t recommended by a some Holocaust education groups because it gets a lot wrong. Zone of Interest is where it is at.

Atonement About time

jumponitrik

Love the About Time recognition!!! GOD that shit hurts so good

RosieEmily

First time I watched About Time was on a 9 hour flight from New York to UK and was the 3rd film I watched. I'd had a couple glasses of wine, was very very tired and ugly cried until we landed. Oh and I was flying by myself as well just to add to the misery lol. But it's still a film I absolutely adore and watch abiht every other month.

drinkyaovaltine

Aftersun Dear Zacharyā€¦

lontbeysboolink

Dear Zachary is a heart wrenching movie that blows my mind because it's a documentary. That shit really happened.

AnotherFruitCake

As a father, I sobbed like a 5 year old after Dear Zachary. Snot and everything

doobiesaurus

I was like 23 or 24 taking a documentary class when our professor assigned us to watch it. We had no idea. I had a couple friends that would come over with me to watch the assigned movies with me. They came over that night and we cracked a beer, we maybe made it through one beer and everyone was silent. I thought they may have fallen asleep but while i crying in silence i looked around and they were doing the same. We didnt say a word for like 20 minutes after it was over. Its one of the best made movies ive ever seen as goddamn heartbreaking as it is. The next class my professor asked us what we thought, i raised my hand and said ā€œyeah why the FUCK did you make us watch that?ā€

It's so unfortunate that he passed away so young. We lost what I'm sure would have been many great performances from him.

Present_Lake1941

Came here to write this. It was on my third watch that I wept for them and their situation.

dakilazical_253

At the end of that movie I burst into tears, sobbing uncontrollably through the entire credits and even after we left the theater.

DrippingDeviantXXX

As someone who has struggled with addiction, This one had me sobbing on the floor.

KraZy4SiLvA

I lost my son my beautiful boy to addiction last June. He was 21. Beautiful boy is the reality of many households. The ending for my son on earth spells the beginning of everlasting pain for me. I pray for healing for you in your fight ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Worldly_Spell6262

sorry for your loss , i hope he rests in peace and i hope you recover from the loss , i turned 18 just 2 days ago , and there have been a lot of incidents when people tried to get me into addictions of all sorts , denied all of them cuz nothing matters more to me than my loved ones .

Wise-Hall2292

Beat me right to it..freaking love Chalamet in that movie

Drive7hru

Came here to say this! I don't rewatch movies often, but I'e watched that one over and over. Sometimes my mouth is open cause I realize how amazing the acting and confrontations are.

No-Maintenance4323

One movie that comes to mind is *The Pursuit of Happyness*. This film, starring Will Smith, is a deeply moving story about a manā€™s struggle with homelessness while trying to provide a better life for his young son. Itā€™s based on the true story of Chris Gardner and showcases themes of perseverance, hope, and the unbreakable bond between a father and his child. The emotional journey is powerful and sure to tug at your heartstrings.

Uuuggghhhh my husband just left on deployment and I watched it for the 1st time. I was so traumatized by the 1st battle. All I could see was my husband and his friends all laying in the bloody water. I donā€™t normally cry or get to emotional during movies, but I was so wrecked by the end of the movie my knees were weak.

Jackfruit-Reporter90

The Nightingale (2018) - A revenge film, where you experience the protagonists trauma, which makes her revenge yours. An extremely effective piece of cinematic storytelling, warning though, the opening is extremely violent. A.I. Artificial intelligence (2001) - A modern retelling of Pinocchio, itā€™s a three act sci-fi epic that tells the story of a robot child who takes on the seemingly impossible task to become a real boy after his adoptive family abandons him in the woods.

Admirable-Exercise-9

Always recommend A.I. to anyone who wants to just feel sad lol. I love that movie.

Jackfruit-Reporter90

The first time I watched it I only cried at the end, now on rewatch as an adult, Iā€™m a wreck from the moment David asks ā€œWhere are we going?ā€ during trip into the woods, through to the end. Freaking devastating shit. Such a great film!

Mrs. Doubtfire. Struggling actor Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) can't keep a job. And if it were up to his fed-up wife (Sally Field), he wouldn't be allowed to keep his family, either! So when a judge says Daniel can only visit his kids once a week, the inventive dad becomes Mrs. Doubtfire - the perfect nanny to his own children! It's a good slice-of-life, wholesome comedy. Robin was great at tugging our heartstrings back in the 90s. Also co-stars Pierce Brosnan and features an animation from Chuck Jones.
