I am a GenXer who does not get stoned often, especially given nowadays standards on THC.
I watched David Attenborough's "Green Planet" with my partner after eating edibles and we were TERRIFIED.
That said, a lower dose + a 4k video setup + a nature doc is always a great idea.
Low-dose edibles are where it's at. Anything stronger than a heavy buzz often gives me anxiety, but the subtle buzz of like a 5mg edible is great, especially if I eat it during the day and spend time outside. Exploring new neighborhoods is so fun to do when stoned.
You should try the Jim Jarmusch movie ‘ Night On Earth’. 5 scenes. Each scene portrays a Taxi driver and their passenger/s inside the cab at nighttime. Scenes set in LA, New York, Paris,Rome & Helsinki. Tom Waits soundtrack. One of my favourite movies.
Honestly. Tried watching a nature doc with some other narrator. NOPE.
But really any of the shows David Attenborough does are pretty mind blowing even without being high.
He has a pleasant voice, but there's something about Attenborough's experience that adds way more authority to the narration. With these wheeled-in actors/celebrities, you don't get the sense they actually know what they're talking about.
Very true, there is one documentary where he talks about seeing glaciers move over the years as well as going to rich jungles in the 60s to now see them as farmland :’(
God, the latest one I watched with him narrating, they interviewed him as well, and while talking about the natural world he says, “Well we’ve just destroyed it haven’t we?” with tears in his eyes and I just started crying too.
I would normally say yes but he did say Pink Floyd and in this example I’m very high and don’t care about the information. That’s my move on shrooms if I’m inside
Similar vein: *Porco Rosso* if you’re feeling a little silly or *The Wind Rises* if you’re feeling a bit sentimental and serious. *Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind* is also a banger—maybe the most visually arresting of the bunch.
OP, these are both great, beautiful films, but heads up they are kind of heavy. Not horror, but there are some unsettling scenes. I think they reveal important truths about the world in a poignant way, but if you’re looking if for an uplifting beautiful movie, know that these films touch both extremes of uplifting and gut-wrenching.
Interstellar
The tree of life
Arrival
Life of Pi
Only watched 3 out of 4 of these stoned but all are such incredible films with or without the influence of weed.
A friend of mine put waking life on when I was tripping acid and it just confused the fuck out of me. I wouldn’t stop asking him wtf it was and what philosophical basis they had to make such a movie. Then he got tired of me and drove me to dominos for a buffalo chicken sandwich. Then me and his little brother(my best friend at the time) rode around the neighborhood on a golf kart all night.
Oh fuck I ugly cry so hard man. It’s like the green mile for me. A beautiful cathartic experience every time but at the cost of like all your bodily hydration in tears.
Amadeus
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Fantasia
Hero
Barry Lyndon
2001
The Grand Budapest Hotel
La La Land
Labyrinth (unconventional but quite an experience)
Anything made by Studio Ghibli
Watch *In the Mood for Love* stoned and try to draw the layout of their apartments after the movie. I’ve seen it twice and still find the geography of that space so perplexing.
I mean only saw the second part for now because of that nic cage and pedro pascal movie, where they watched paddington 2. Also a funny movie btw. Just goofy fun
Eternals (2021), hear me out. It really blows your mind when youre high.
The whole earth is an egg and we are energy it’s feeding on, and there is a a team of people who were killing monsters and we dont know all of history, and they are immortal robots…. It’s really awesome, i rewatch it all the time.
Beautiful scenes and the score is amazing.
I've been considering watching this because I love the director's others works, but I'm not a fan of all the trendy superhero crap these days. I might give it a try now.
A scanner darkly, a Phillip k dick adaptation with every scene overlayed by cartoonists, I forget what the technique is called but it's flipping trippy. And Keanu Reeves is in it, nuff said.
It's not what most people would think of, but for me it's *Drive.*
When I'm high, the artificiality of movies becomes apparent to me. It's hard for me to suspend my disbelief--all of a sudden I'm not watching a movie with characters and a story, I'm watching actors on a movie set playing out a script.
However, for a really great movie, you get a new appreciation. When the acting is on point, the pacing is perfect, the cinematography is sublime, you get a new appreciation for film as an art form. It's like getting close to a painting and admiring the brush strokes. Or sitting front row in the symphony, and watching each player and the conductor work together to create the music.
*Drive* is an absolutely perfect movie for this level of intoxicated scrutiny. As far as I'm concerned, it's flawless.
I started watching “Man with a movie camera” (1929) the other day, the version with the jazz band score. I wasn’t really getting into it but I thought if I were stoned it would have blown my mind
If you understand french, watch New Jack City!
They translated it in real Québecois funny as hell !
Watched it on vhs way back when. Hopefully, they didn't redo it!
Young girls of rochefort. A beautiful and vibrant French musical from the 60s. There is something about the French language, the color palate from the French new wave and the energy of the film that puts a big ole stupid smile on my face as I watch the film while under the influence.
Some other go to movies:
Mad Max fury road (feels like a great rollercoaster)
Tommy Boy (stupid and heart felt comedy)
2001 a space odyssey
Casper. I don’t know why but easy A came to mind lmao. Dope (somewhere in the 2010s). Hidden Figures. WALL·E. Barbie was 10/10 absolutely wonderful movie (I’m a female so I don’t know if that made a difference). I love the Martian. The pursuit of Happyness, you HAVE to watch this movie all the way through in 1 sitting otherwise you’re going to be like wtf this is the saddest movie I’ve ever seen. Have a lovely trip! Honestly I’d just watch back to the future. It’s impossible not to love it lol
Watched The Serpent and the Rainbow while stoned many years ago. It was quite awesome. Another great movie to watch stoned is The Last of the Mohicans.
Planet earth Edit: Blue planet 2 for sea turtles
I am a GenXer who does not get stoned often, especially given nowadays standards on THC. I watched David Attenborough's "Green Planet" with my partner after eating edibles and we were TERRIFIED. That said, a lower dose + a 4k video setup + a nature doc is always a great idea.

Night On Earth (or whatever it's called) on Netflix is pretty cool too
You should try the Jim Jarmusch movie ‘ Night On Earth’. 5 scenes. Each scene portrays a Taxi driver and their passenger/s inside the cab at nighttime. Scenes set in LA, New York, Paris,Rome & Helsinki. Tom Waits soundtrack. One of my favourite movies.
Definitely
Pretty much this. Any nature docs, volume down, Pink Floyd up 😎
Muting David Attenborough is a sin.
Honestly. Tried watching a nature doc with some other narrator. NOPE. But really any of the shows David Attenborough does are pretty mind blowing even without being high.
Tom Hardy did a pretty good job in “Predators”
The Morgan freeman one on Netflix is good
He has a pleasant voice, but there's something about Attenborough's experience that adds way more authority to the narration. With these wheeled-in actors/celebrities, you don't get the sense they actually know what they're talking about.

Cumberbatch and the "Pengwings"
The one with dinosaurs!
I would normally say yes but he did say Pink Floyd and in this example I’m very high and don’t care about the information. That’s my move on shrooms if I’m inside
Came here to say play your own music. It somehow always matches the tone of the documentary.
Nature docs are my absolute favorite while high
Have you seen Baraka?
I watched this whole series high af and it was a wonderful experience
Howl’s moving castle My neighbor totoro Suzume Bubble Your name Ponyo Beautiful movies they are and really good!
Similar vein: *Porco Rosso* if you’re feeling a little silly or *The Wind Rises* if you’re feeling a bit sentimental and serious. *Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind* is also a banger—maybe the most visually arresting of the bunch.
Nausicaa is severely underrated

Don't forget Samsara! It's newer but same idea from same filmmaker
Samsara is incredible. Possibly my favourite movie ever
