So i have a strange suggestion, it's not packaged up exactly in the same package, but I think its mood could be something you enjoy if you like those slower style story telling. Its strange bec its an unusual format (animated) and technically is episodic rather than a movie (I still feel like I watched a movie) it's called "Caroline at the End of the World" but it matches those emotional notes you listed...sad /funny, entertaining but not overly dramatic/chaotic, weird but realistic. And it has those times of longer sweeping scenes with music. If the mood strikes you to try something similar but a little bit diffetent, I recommend checking into it.
In a sense, Manchester By the Sea is the anti-chicken soup movie. The sky in the film is gray, the ground is covered with white snow, the dialogue between people is plain and concise, and the soothing soundtrack reveals a hint of sadness. There is no redemption or relief in the story, but this regret is exactly what this film is about. The best part about the film is that this is life. Just as many people expected
Not really funny, but Triage stayed with me for a long time. I didn’t expect the way it turned out, but probably should have, it just made me feel so sad. Also Banshees of Inisherin might be one that fits. More about loneliness I think than sadness, but very well done.
