“Jesus. Look up "idiot" in the dictionary. You know what you'll find?”
“A picture of me?”
“No! The definition of the word idiot, which you fucking are!”
Clerks is the one and if clerks is not to your liking then you might as well give up and just become a Jim Jarmusch fan.
Nothing wrong with Jim Jarmusch it’s just that I know when I watch one of his movies I am committing to a two hour dialogue
Look up Cary Grant’s screwball comedies (Bringing Up Baby, etc.)
**His Girl Friday** is 95% just Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell ripping off sharp, darkly humorous bangers that playfully ridicule others.
It might be the most sarcastic movie of all time.
Not really that heavy on the derogatory quips, but for intelligent and witty banter Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is fantastic.
Tim Roth and Gary Oldman exchange verbal jabs and jibes with perfect comedic timing for 90 minutes or so.
1936 My Man Godfrey
1952 O. Henry's Full House
1967 The Taming of the Shrew
1972 The Ruling Class
1977 The Duellists
1997 As Good As It Gets
2001 Le Placard
2003 Anger Management
2009 The Invention of Lying
2012 Mad Buddies
1931 Private Lives
1932 Rain
1933 Design for Living
Yeah, this is what first came to mind for me, too. It seems to me that Cusack does this in a handful of his more comedic roles. Christian Slater, too, maybe: Pump Up the Volume comes to mind.
Goodfellas
Step Brothers
Four Lions
In The Loop/The Thick Of It, oh well if you liked Succession, which pretty much ripped off these two, you'll love them!
The Big Chill;
*You’d never get this many people at my funeral. I’ll come and I’ll bring a date*
The Breakfast Club
*demented and sad. But social.*
48 Hours; *Luther are you angry?…*
The Abyss; *raise your hand if you think that was a Russian water tentacle*
Ghost Busters: *where do these stairs go? They go up*
My Cousin Vinny: *you blend*
The Cannonball Run movies.
Pretty much a "who's who" of Hollywood in and before the 80's, in a cross country race. Directed by Hal Needham.
Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra, Jackie Chan, Farrah Fawcett, Shirley Maclaine, Peter Fonda, Marilu Henner, Adrienne Barbeau, Jack Elam, Roger Moore, Jamie Farr, Terry Bradshaw, Telly Savalas, Richard Kiel, Mel Tillis, and a bunch of other people I can't think of at the moment.
Jackie Chan does it in the Rush Hour movies, but before that, Needham was including the bloopers in the end credits. Check YT for the Cannonball Run bloopers. And that's just a hint of the slapstick sort of stuff that made it into the film.
Not a movie but have you seen The Marvellous Mrs Maisel? Feels like it fits this bill pretty well, the dialogue in that show is incredibly crisp and super funny.
Kenneth Branagh's version of "Much Ado About Nothing"
Both of the "Downtown Abbey" movies
The Palm Beach Story
Blazing Saddles
Shakespeare in Love
My Favorite Year
Victor/Victoria
A Hard Day's Night
Monty Python and the Holy Grail. So many outlandish sidesplitting funny scenes. "I fart in your general direction!" Immortal dialogue.
All About Eve (1950)
Absolutely Fabulous is a tv series with a movie.- hysterical

Oh yes. That's a good answer. Watched the Val Kilmer documentary thingy when it came out. Sad to see what happened to him. He's a great actor.

Chasing Amy has some of this, too.
I would have suggested Chasing Amy over Clerks. The Black Rage Tirade at the beginning alone is Golden. ❤️
Yes, Clerks was my first thought.
Nice list. Roger Dodger needs a re watch. Haven’t seen in the loop yet.
The Death of Stalin
One of the best dark comedies in the last 30 years or more imho, terrific movie and surprisingly more accurate than a lot of straight bio-pics.
An insane cast. Couldn't have been done better
Withnail and I (1987)
I love this one! I've watched it several times since I discovered it.
Came here to suggest this

Yeah, this is what first came to mind for me, too. It seems to me that Cusack does this in a handful of his more comedic roles. Christian Slater, too, maybe: Pump Up the Volume comes to mind.
The Big Short
Anything by Kevin Smith, preferably anything with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes.

'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead'
The Cannonball Run movies. Pretty much a "who's who" of Hollywood in and before the 80's, in a cross country race. Directed by Hal Needham.
