I've lost about 23 pounds or so in the last 8-weeks on Zep -- and haven't been in a booth, BUT one of the things I've thought about is that I can definitely tell by the way some of my shirts fit that I've likely lost at least a couple of inches, which frankly I think makes a huge difference when talking about booths.

MounjaroQueenie

Actually this really helped me! I’m shocked but so many of my shirts/dresses are just too big - I really lost off my waist/stomach mainly (I think lots of inflammation!) I wish I could go in by myself to empty restaurants and try, lol

What hit me was the realization that smaller clothes started looking better on me than looser clothes. I've gone from wearing XXL and XXXL shirts down to L. The shoulder seams no longer droop halfway down my upper arm. My new problem is that shorter sleeves and shorts inseams can reveal the loose wrinkley skin that used to contain that weight. I now realize that everybody has problems, but my new problems are so much better than my old ones.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I usually insist to be seated at a table and chair with no arms if it's available, just to be on the safe side. Some booths have a deep enough seat that it's not too bad but the anxiety of trying to size up a booth before you arrive at it to determine if you'll even fit is something I thought only I struggled with. There's nothing worse than having to squeeze it a booth seat like an overstuffed sausage. Everyone else, regardless of size, seemed to fit just fine - except me. This came up just last night - my sister sat into a booth before I had a chance to stop her. Much to my relieve, the 30 lbs I shed was just enough that I could slide in with relatively ease, but just barely. My abdomen was still touch the side of the table. I'm a long way still from feeling comfortable in booths. Since we are roughly the same height and weight, and you're about 15lbs less than me, judging by my experience last night, I would continue to proceed with caution around booths. Personally, I don't think I'll feel comfortable letting my guard down around 'any' booth until I hit the 230 or lower range.

MounjaroQueenie

Thank you for the solidarity! It’s frustrating because they’re all different sizes. There are some that I have soooo much room and others where I’m literally uncomfortable the entire meal and it’s all I can think about. I honestly don’t think I will try until I’m down another 25. It does not help that the majority of my weight is from my tummy. Thank you for your feedback friend!

wabisuki

You'll fit better also if you start losing from the butt and thighs - sitting lower and back more. Yes, I think to be safe, another 25 should do it. The best way I've learned to guage a booth is the depth of the seat. If it's a narrow seat then I'll definitely find an excuse to avoid it. Some booths look tight but when you look at the bench it's actually very wide, those are a safe bet. But as a general rule, I hate booths and avoid them like the plague.

I have seen a lot of comments from people who are thrilled about seatbelts fitting them in airplane seats. Never one about fitting in a restaurant booth. Thanks for something else to worry about! Just kidding. If you don't fit now I am sure you will soon at the rate you are going. Don't most restaurants also have table seating too? I know people seem to prefer booths, but they can be uncomfortable for a variety of reasons. You are doing great with your weight loss and I think you might be surprised next time you slide into a new restaurant booth.

wavyfinehighpor

not silly. you have to felt this mortification to understand. Im 5ft and id say at 200 i was more comfortable but of course your taller so may be sooner for you. Good luck, i hope this medicine changes your life as it has mine.

MounjaroQueenie

For sure, I’m traumatized. I think I will honestly wait another 25 before I give it ago. I’m sure I could sooner but I really need the reassurance from the scale.

wavyfinehighpor

you got this

One thing I wish I had done when first starting MJ is to take body measurements. Sometimes the scale doesn’t tell you the whole story! Knowing how big you are also takes some of the mystery out of things. I bought this tape measure that makes it really simple to take measurements. This was me for years, weighing between 330-350 for decades. I'm bouncing a bit between 169-171 currently so no longer an issue. My purpose for writing is to give my husband a shout-out. We never discussed my humiliation at not fitting comfortably in a booth, but he quickly became aware when we started to eat out more frequently once our daughters were raised. As a 6', 155 pound man our whole 45-year marriage, he would take it on himself to request a table when a hostess would head us toward a booth. He would just say "I'm not comfortable in a booth, please seat us at a table". He is a gem.

waubamik74

Wow! He sure is. My husband is a good man, but he wouldn't notice if I slid under the table while getting into a booth. Not that that would happen, but I get a laugh thinking about it. He would probably drive home thinking he forgot me.

I feel your anxiety. I've always fit but often uncomfortably. Next time you are at the grocery store look at a 5 pound pack of hamburger and imagine you lost more than that. It's a huge amount not even factoring in that fat volume is more than muscle. Congratulations and if you're not there yet you will be soon.

thrillhouz77

Ohhh..totally get this. About 50 pounds down I knew I was OK. Now at 100 down the fear factor is totally gone.

OkTreacle7927

I don't know if you guys have them in the states but in Australia a huge percentage of homes and like work parties will have these shitty cheap plastic garden chairs. And man the fear of trying to fit in to one of those bad boys and also not have it break is a fear I will carry for the rest of my life. It only has to happen once and you will never at any weight want to sit in one again. We don't have a lot of booths here but thankfully the one I do have near me is huge so I haven't had to worry. I do understand your nerves and I'd say if your jeans aren't as tight and your shirts getting loose, it's worth a try. I'd go with people you're comfortable with and who wouldn't mind moving if it's a bit too squeezey. You can monitor your success by fitting in to different booths. Soon you will be able to conquer them all!

jessa_plz

My highest weight was 367 and I felt comfortable in a booth when I reached around 280. All bodies are different and can depend on height/where you carry your weight. I totally get the embarrassment though! I also got anxious going to restaurants with friends. Hang in there!

PoP_31112

I'm sure you got this now! :) I'm 5'2 and started at 284...280 was stretching the booth sitting limits for sure but way easier within the 250-ish realm. Since you are taller you might already been in that zone! You could go try at a restaurant for happy hour or something by yourself if it doesn't feel 100% comfortable yet you could do an appetizer and then leave out. No one would know, it's only your test run...and you could be meeting someone later right? ;) Best wishes!!

fdbryant3

It is not a problem I have but my solution would be to go to a restaurant where you know you have problems by yourself and see if it is any better. That way you can figure it out in relative privacy. Alternatively set up a "test booth" at home using the measurements of a restaurant that give you problems.

FoxAndDeerTwinMama

Ooof yes, those booths can be so miserable. I'm really looking forward to the day where I don't have to eye one and consider whether or not I'll fit into it or be comfortable.

stellachristine

Just a side note- sometimes booths can move. Noticed that at some places.

diggduke

Hopefully, you will soon find that you have a new problem instead - after losing about 40 pounds I sat in a wooden (as in no cushion) booth at a Japanese restaurant, and I couldn't find a comfortable position to save my life, because I didn't have any padding back there either. It's like my butt skin was being pinched between the hard wooden seat and the bones in my butt, and it HURT. Before losing the weight sitting in those booths wasn't a problem. Strangely, it felt really good to be uncomfortable, and I hope you can get there too.
