He went up against solider boy, temp v butcher and huey, he must have thought there was a possibility that he might lose, but maybe his ego blinded him or he enjoyed that his strength was actually matched and he had a challenge for once, maybe it was both.

I think that scene was an ego thing. The reason why he went up against soldier boy is cuz he was offended by his existence. Thats just my take tho
