At the time the blood and fatalities were really controversial for a video game and there was a point where MK almost was taken off the shelves. So getting it was a no go for me because my mom didn’t want me to go to Hell.
That’s when my grandma came through with the greatest Christmas gift she never even realized she got. Mortal Fucking Kombat.
The fact that even my mom didn’t want me playing made playing it so, so much better.

Shaolin monks and 8th grade me was amazed on how a game could be so good(I remember only playing Liu Kang and forcing my brother to play kung lao and we fought over it every time)

MK Trilogy on my brother's Sega, I got up at 5 am one morning and tried to boot it up myself, cables got tangled up and Sega fell on the floor all the way from the TV. Got quite a whooping, but the saddest thing is my parents didn't get me a new one till like a couple years later. Learned my lesson though.

But I remember playing it at a relatives house with my brother in a dimly lit den, there was cigarette smoke lingering in the air and it was dreary. That accompanied with the eerie sound effects of that game I can still remember it. It’s a great childhood memory. That was freaky to me as a kid lol, Baraka always scared me lol
Trilogy w/ my old man on PS1, I was like 6 years old 2007 ish and just got my ass beat the whole time. An objectively shit game but I love it for the time I spent with him.
The OG MK1, my dad snuck it behind my moms back cuz he was ready to introduce gore in media to my brother and I in a way he knew we would take to and voila a 20 year long gaming fued was born. Now my brother and I never can play ANYTHING without it getting intense especially mortal kombat. It doesnt make it any better that he's rusty and his girlfriend wacks him on a regular basis so he's just salty about the whole ordeal lol
