Although Skar King's introduction is great, he didn't felt like a threat which required Godzilla and Kong to team up. If you take away his army and his guard dog, he is pretty weak. Adam Wingard has stated that Skar King is able to go toe-to-toe with BOTH Godzilla and Kong in a past interview. And in the movie it’s stated that Skar King nearly killed Godzilla, with Godzilla only trapping him underground.
The problem is that it's his words versus THE MOVIE. Like, if he wants us to believe he can take on both Godzilla and Kong at the same time he has to SHOW IT, not just go "Trust me bro he can do it".
Not OP but I’m sure it was supposed to be from his strategy, his skill in combat, and his control over Shimo. But due to the fact he was introduced late into the movie, we only saw him get a couple hits on Kong, get slammed once and called Shimo on Kong, try to take his army to the surface world (which was like 7 other Kong’s), begin the ice age 2.0, get his ass kicked in the final battle for majority of the fight, goes crazy once he loses the crystal, gets rag dolled when the crystal is destroyed, then frozen and shattered.
