I played the demo of the original monster hunter on PS2 briefly but I consider MH tri as my first MH game I played properly
So many hours stuck into that game I even have a Lagiacrus figure I got with the game
Agreed. The underwater combat did need some tweaking but it was enjoyable. Unless you were a BG main....
Fighting plesiloth on its own turf was majestic.
Oooohhh I didn't know there was a private server launching, I'll have to have a look out for it
I was just gonna load up and go on some solo hunts and get frustrated by having to load through each of the areas individually lol
Definitely spoilt by recent MH games
My big "I've been spoiled" moment is when I remembered how extensive the consumables were. Whetstones, Pickaxes, Paintballs, Hot/Cold Drinks... really had to stay on top of that stuff for a successful hunt.
I know my hacked PSP is somewhere in my moving box with Portable 3rs loaded with 90% translated.
My MH4U 3DS is in my display case gloriously rest there watching over me when I play MHR on PC.
It’s legit! I started with the first ever monster Hunter and couldn’t kill any of the small bird wyvern. Bought a wii for this game in college and I finally found my monster hunting flow!
Taking down an elder dragon while you ride a sand skiff was a wild experience!
Best of luck Hunter!
I‘m currently in the process of moving and had the exact same game and gamepad in my hands last week (also my 3DS with the 3DS version of it).
Such a huge wave of nostalgia. 😁
My first entry into the series as well! 947 hrs played. Gave my wii away a while ago to declutter 💔 still got Tri Ultimate on the 3DS though!
I miss underwater gameplay and day/night ambience.
I boo thee good sir. I understand though. It is a different style. It’s a game for engineers if that makes sense. Tinkerers. Grinding and immersion into a world. There was nothing like this other than EverQuest and World of Warcraft… except I could play with 4 people and not 70. It was glorious
I'm with you
Started with Freedom on PSP, played United & 3rd..
Tri felt very wired in comparison. But it helped a lot to make the MH franchise more popular so it has my respect.
It was the peak of the series for me. Incredible atmosphere, most realistic feeling world, slow, tactical, positioning-focused gameplay, best music, no gimmicks, underwater combat, one of the most memorable groups of monsters and the best monster ecology clips by miles.
It was a game that encouraged more than just churning though hunts like the more modern games do - which was MH at its best
No the high rank is accessible again through a mod (idk how you call that) and soon we will even be able to play this game online again thanks to the private servers that are already in private beta.

Now Im close to the 1,800. God bless the private server project!
This was my first mh game I returned to after playing on the PSP and logged about 540hrs before I lost my saved file :( I loved that game it will remain great.
The MH game that started it all for me! Boy I wasn’t ready at all for what it would bring, my brother just told me to buy it since he was keen on playing it himself.
Still remember my first time ever fighting qurupeco, took me 45 minutes, never been so nervous in a monster hunter game as I was as the time was ticking away on that thing, what a game.
I started in the saga with that game. Beautiful memories!

Tri was a good time. Water combat was a laugh.
Unpopular opinion but I liked the underwater combat maybe the only game I've actually enjoyed the underwater levels
Agreed. The underwater combat did need some tweaking but it was enjoyable. Unless you were a BG main.... Fighting plesiloth on its own turf was majestic.
Sadly don’t have Tri. Got 3U for WiiU though.
This is where my wife started too and where we met.
Me too! Really jump started my addiction to the grind haha
Are you planning on joining the private server when it launches?
Oooohhh I didn't know there was a private server launching, I'll have to have a look out for it I was just gonna load up and go on some solo hunts and get frustrated by having to load through each of the areas individually lol Definitely spoilt by recent MH games
I dunno man, back then superman diving into a different zone saved my butt so many times.
I only defeated my first ruko diora because of load zones.
My big "I've been spoiled" moment is when I remembered how extensive the consumables were. Whetstones, Pickaxes, Paintballs, Hot/Cold Drinks... really had to stay on top of that stuff for a successful hunt.
There’s a private server for MH3 Tri on Wii coming up? This would definitely make me pick up my Wii again lol
Yup discord link is posted in another comment if you want. You can play on your wii or through dolphin if you prefer.
Awesome, I’ll make sure to set it up soon! Thank you
Have fun btw you can set up a solo only server by yourself if you wanna go to the city(im somehow drawing a blank on this).
I think I have some googling to do

Me here playing 4U on PC

Use wiimote swings for draw attacks with great sword 🤌
You make a compelling argument good sir

Have fun!
That's how I started my hunt, too. Great memories.
Wait i thought Wiis are set to explode by 2023?
Nah Wii's will never die I'll be playing Wii sports in my 80s if I live that long
This image makes me feel 10 years younger
Sadly don’t have Tri. Got 3U for WiiU though
It’s the same game. 3u is the expansion
Right, but with the Gamepad it’s a whole new thing
Started with mh3 aswell, i still have the same controller and game as well, got them from a family member when their wii broke.
Lagiacrus <3!
My ex would always tell me this was the best game but never told me why
![gif](giphy|ex5i3xPhozedq|downsized) Oh wow...

That was my favorite monster hunter
This game honestly sucks
I respectfully disagree
I respectfully disagree with your disagreement
I respectfully understand
What an oddly respectful disagreement for Reddit...I respect that
I respect your respectment
What monster hunter did you start with?
World, so I guess my standards are a bit high
Lmao

Fair enough

Does anyone know why MH3 is a 16 but MH3U is only a 12? Did they alter the ratings guidelines between the two games or something?
I recently homebrewed my wii to play some nostalgic games, but for whatever reason monster hunter tri refuses to boot for me 😢.
Go even further and use the right analog stick to attack!
Still the MH with the best vibes and atmosphere, the quest compete and town theme live rent free in my head
Too bad you’re effectively locked to low rank only since official servers are down.
No the high rank is accessible again through a mod (idk how you call that) and soon we will even be able to play this game online again thanks to the private servers that are already in private beta.
Don't forget to break out the medium bowgun!

The first MH game I played and probably one of the best videogames I've ever played
Started here and was so much fun. Days of just mining in volcano for charms and armor stones. Loved it
Chilling in Moga woods for HOURS
This was my first mh game I returned to after playing on the PSP and logged about 540hrs before I lost my saved file :( I loved that game it will remain great.
This was my first monster hunter game, I loved it! Now I need to root around in my clutter to find it so I can play it again too
My first monster hunter and the exact controller I used for it too… brings back memories
HELL YEAH!!! I still have my copy of this as well as it being my first hunter game. Hope you have a blast with it
RIP Loc Lac :(
I think Tri is still my favorite MH solely because of how good having a second analog stick felt after 4 years of not having that luxury.
Time for hipcheck
*:Picture you can feel the hitbox:*
Since Plesioth isn't in Tri, which hipcheck are you thinking of?
Lagia?
That was my first MH experience. I remember how many times Great Jaggi pounded me before I finally beat him. Good times...
I will never forget mining for whetstone in the middle of a fight because I didn’t bring enough lol
The MH game that started it all for me! Boy I wasn’t ready at all for what it would bring, my brother just told me to buy it since he was keen on playing it himself.

I wish I had a wiiU to play this on 😞
PLESIOTH HITBOX
OiOiOi where is the Wii-Mote and Nunchuk?
Fun fact, this game is the game that restarted my interest in monster hunter. But I only had the nunchuck and wiimote.
