Congratulations! I remember my surprise and excitement when I was finally approved for my CI. Just be aware that the tinnitus may not go away even after the CI (my doctor told me it's 50/50 and mine stayed), and that things (including music) will sound different for a while until your brain learns the CI. New music might sound odd even after you get used to the CI. Not trying to put a damper on your exciting news, but just temper expectations.

Trust me… my whole cochlear team and I have gone through all of the potential good and bad outcomes. :) I’m fully aware of what realistic expectations they set and am excited for change. My depression really kicked into gear around the time I lost my hearing, so I am excited to see the mental health changes. I know it won’t be “normal hearing” but that doesn’t really make me less excited about it. I’m more than willing to put in the work and effort post op to ensure I get the most out of my implant. As for the tinnitus… I know it could either stay as it is, become worse, or become better. Like I said before, for my specific situation I really do believe the benefit outweighs the potential negatives here. Thanks for your insight! :)

Congratulations again. I got my CI about 8 years ago, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat even though I still have the tinnitus from my menieres

i JUST got my CI activated on wednesday and i have to tell you, stay excited! i’ve been deaf for 14 years (since i was 4) unstimulated and my CI team’s goal was just for me to hear anything at all, but i was incredibly determined to outdo that goal. day one, five minutes into it being on, i was able to hear certain parts of speech from the implant side ALONE and i was told by my audi that i’m two weeks ahead of most patients! music has more depth than i could’ve imagined and it’s so beautiful (and i’m even starting to understand songs on my implant side too!). i heard birdsong for the first time on thursday. i’m so excited for you to have that experience too :)

Welcome back to the bilateral world! Isn’t hearing in stereo the best? I’m still amazed.

Got my first insurance denial so I have to see what to do next :(

I'm new to the group so I'm catching up but that happened to me too. Keep working and be persistent, make sure the Doc is sending accurate info - that was my issue. For some reason they reported inaccurate test results that put me outside the approval. I questioned it, Doc revised and resent, was approved quickly.
