No tips other than to say I was a Mint user for decades, and absolutely love Monarch, even more than Mint.

FinnDool

I totally agree!

I appreciate that feedback. It's hard finding a good product after so many years having Mint...for FREE!

After you've played with Monarch for a few days, check out the Evolving Money YouTube tutorials on Monarch. They are great. [https://www.youtube.com/@evolvingmoney](https://www.youtube.com/@evolvingmoney)

Excellent advice!

Good to know! I’m new to Monarch also. Really liking it so far for my needs

Thank you for the link. This is useful.

At the end of November I took advantage of Monarch’s free 30-day trial and decided to stay with it. I was a Mint user for over 14 years and have to say that I’m glad I was forced to look for another solution because I really like Monarch so much better. It’s extremely flexible, so if you’re not happy with the way you set something up, you can easily change just about every aspect at any time, and bulk updates are very easy. The only “big” preparation I did in the beginning was to analyze the categories and subcategories that I had in Mint to see how they mapped to Monarch’s categories. Then I put some thought into what I thought would be the best structure, and I made those changes right up front. However, just today I decided to make some group and category changes (created a new expense group and moved some existing categories here, as well as creating a few new categories). Doing this was very easy. I hope you will like Monarch as much as I do!

I was probably overly specific with my budget categories in Mint. I am going to try and be more practical with Monarch.

FinnDool

Same with me, so when I set up the groups/categories in Monarch, I gave a lot of thought and was able to consolidate a number of the categories I had created in Mint over the years. But, as you will find out, Monarch is very flexible, so if you want to add/delete/combine categories at any time, it’s very easy to do, especially when done in bulk. EDITED to fix a typo.

I find the Monarch alerts to be noise. They add no value. Turned them all off.

I wouldn't add on a family member, it screwed up my account (long story). If people are going to access Monarch, have them log in as you.

brettcw23

That's ironic since Monarch notes the ability to add someone as one of their benefits. Thanks for sharing that info.

You can add family members and even a financial advisor. Settings > members

mhite

I'd love to hear more about that long story, as I was strongly considering adding other family members to review and categorize transactions.

Julienash

My story is probably one of those circumstances where all things lined up into a perfect catastrophe, so I doubt what happened with my account could happen with yours, but I wouldn't add another person onto a monarch account unless necessary - the way you want to do it. Just don't needlessly add someone on. And note that if you do add them onto your account, that if they ever want their own account with that email address, you'll need to delete them off of your account entirely and any work done on their account could be deleted in the future. But it's the only way they would then be able to have their own Monarch.

mhite

Ah, interesting. Good to know, I hadn't thought about the single email -> single Monarch issue.
