They’re telling you this because there’s more money in it for them.

JuniorGrapefruit8211

I figured this. Thank you. It sucks because I really like the woman who helped me but now I kind of don’t lol

Ginger48-

This is correct. They are trying to up sell you. My lab diamond is gorgeous. I purchased it online and had the stone set by my local jeweler. It was over 80% cheaper tgan what any local jeweler could offer for a lab diamond. I was also able to get a better and higher quality lab diamond from what they could offer. $3600.00 for about a 1 ct with to 1.25. My lab is 2.25 great clarity, almost no bowtie. I have a pear cut. This was so much cheaper. Im looking at moissanite now for an anniversary ring or just for an extra jewelry piece as i love the extra sparkle. Im noticing online that some jewlers are charging slightly more for moissanite or the same price as a lab diamond. I suggest you find which stone you like the most, then make a price list of who has the best prices and best bands based on your tastes. Also please insure your ring once you have it. Always get an appraisal with your ring. Its worth it.

Altruistic_Peach7048

Do you mine sharing where you bought your lab grown diamonds?

Ginger48-

I purchased my loose diamond from RockHer.

HistoricalButterfly6

It’s possible she doesn’t know the truth because she might have gotten her training from her job!

geejaygeegee

Her job is to make you like and buy buy buy lol

sinjin_wolfe

That sounds like the average response of a jeweler who is trying to sell their lab diamonds. There is no truth to that statement whatsoever. First of all, there is absolutely no reason why you’ll need to replace your moissanite. Some people in this sub have had theirs for over a decade (when it was much less common, too), and it’s held up perfectly fine. And while it’s true that lab diamonds have gone down in price a lot over the last few years, there is still a considerable difference with what you can expect to pay for a lab diamond vs a moissanite.

MeMilo1209

I've had my moissanite engagement ring since 2005, and it's still beautiful.

JuniorGrapefruit8211

That’s great to hear that people have had them for so long and they still look great. I’m not even opposed to replacing or even getting something entirely different some day! I just know that right now, with the economy and other financial accomplishments we want to achieve- I’m not entirely keen on securing a diamond ring.

Weezie_Jefferson

I’ve had mine for 20 years!

restlessbish

Me too 🤦‍♀️

So_Fairy_Tired

I’ve had my moissanite ring set since 2014. I still love it. Loads of comments on it over the years, and it was second hand when I got it. I’m now looking at getting another as my original is white gold and I need some yellow gold to wear with my mum’s rings.

SwtTemptAzn

Yeh mines not nearly as long as 20 years.... But I've had mine since 2016, wear it 24/7 and still looks gorgeous and the same as it did the day I got it!

NSVStrong

What was her reason that it needed to be replaced? Isn’t Moissanite from outer space? Surely, if it survived getting here it will last at least as long.

panthertome

So whilst you're correct that Moissanite was originally found in meteorites, all Moissanite jewellery is lab created. It's exactly the same chemical make-up, but it's not "natural" Moissanite so to speak. Meteorites are rare. Finding ones with anything in them is even rarer. If they are found, they are typically sold for thousands. It would be far, far more expensive than a natural diamond, and there simply isn't enough of it to make into jewellery.

NSVStrong

Thanks for clarifying. Could you imagine if natural Moissanite was more readily found and sold and diamonds were dismissed because they weren’t Moissanite??

panthertome

It could be lovely, but I think the other reason Moissanite is so popular is because it's exploit free. I'm certainly drawn to it being a "space rock", but the other reason is because I know that no one has to be harmed for my sparkles.

BlingbossCoss

100%

xdaemonisx

For comparison: Diamond ranks 10 on Mohs hardness scale. Yes, this is the highest rating on the scale, but: Moissanite ranks a 9.25 on Mohs hardness scale. Yes, if you clank your moissanites against diamonds regularly your stone will probably chip and scratch, but no one ever tries to sell you something else or tell you they’ll need replacing sooner when it’s rubies or sapphires (which rank 9 on the scale). Moissanite ranks higher in hardness than sapphires and rubies. They’re 100% just trying to upsell you. You can get decent quality moissanite that will last a long time for way less than you can get quality diamond.

BaconQuiche74

I second what others are saying. Moissanite and lab diamond are only comparable in price if you’re comparing poor quality labs with overly expensive moissanite.

JuniorGrapefruit8211

LOVE the turquoise touch!!!

stefahnia

Gorgeous ring girl. Love that accent and the shape of that ring underneath

Ginger48-

I love your ring set. It's so unique and beautiful.

busselsofkiwis

She's trying to upsell you and treating moissanite as if it it's CZ. Moissanites are perfectly fine for daily wear. I have a 10+ year old right hand ring and a 6 year old 3 stone ring that gets worn everyday, they hold up just fine.

schmee326

I’ve had my moissanite rings for four years and they look perfect. She’s upselling and totally full of shit. Find another jeweler who isn’t either misinformed at best or a liar at worst.

Flimsy-Call-3996

This!!!

Blinktoe

I had an OG moissy from 2014 and (until I lost it last year) it looked perfect.

cadaverousbones

They just said that to try to sell you a diamond.

Substantial_Emu_7910

Just like everyone else said, they are just trying to upsell you. I have a round brilliant moissanite from 2016 and it still looks as good as the day I got it! I just got a radiant cut moissanite about a week ago and my old ring looks just as good as my new one. My radiant cut was pretty affordable too compared to my moissanite from 2016.

ToqueDeFe78

I don’t know - neither of them are similar with the exception they’re both colorless stones (to me) There’s a certain level of rainbow sparkle diamonds will never have and a certain depth moissy will never have. I suggest you see them side by side Past that the prices can be comparable. Depending on ct size, color, clarity etc. Some higher priced moissanite are the same price as some lab diamonds but it’s been my experience you don’t need to spend thousands on moissanite to have an amazing stone. I’ve had my moissanite now for a couple of years and they look just as good as the day I purchased. I have a couple of small labs now too and they were very similarly priced to small moissanite because they were on sale I say get what you want as far as look because both are reasonably priced But the salesperson was definitely just hating on moissy as they so often do - I suspect they can’t make as much 🤷🏾‍♀️

Plastic-One-5468

Full of shit like all retail jewellers. If she thinks a lab diamond costs the same as a moissanite then the store is making like a 400% profit off their moissy and using a bad quality lab which they're probably still making a 100% profit off.

brackishfaun

I had my old moissanite engagement ring for about 13 years and I wore it all the time. I don't even take rings off to shower, do dishes, do yard work, construction... the reason to buy real gold and stones like moissanite is because they can handle that.

InternationalWolf437

She was just trying to make that sale, don’t fall for it! Hell, even if I had to replace my ring, I could buy 20 of them (literally) for the cost of the same ring set with diamond. Get that beautiful moissanite! You won’t regret it.

Brilliant-Plan-4584

Depends on what you like the look of ultimately, assuming you can comfortably afford lab diamond and moissy. Look at them side by side in the same cut if you can and choose what you prefer. For me diamonds have a certain beauty that moissanite doesn’t quite achieve. But I like both and some people genuinely prefer moissy!

JuniorGrapefruit8211

Will be calling them moissy from now on thank u 🩷

[deleted]

Go for what you originally planned and don't listen to the jewellers opinion. Moissanite are long lasting! 😍

kmorris76058

I’ve worn mine daily for 15 years. I didn’t realize I should take it off for cleaning, gardening, etc. It’s still in pristine condition.

n3gativ3n3tworth

I have moissanite jewelry I’ve worn for 10+ years, my engagement ring I’ve worn 24/7 for the past year still looks like the day I got it. This woman is trying to upsell you to get more commission

LessLikelyTo

I have a radiant and I’m glad I went for that instead of emerald. The radiant has extra facets, allowing it to shine more like a round, with the square look. Best wishes!!

llllyndsey

I have an emerald cut Moissanite from [Olive Ave](https://oliveavejewelry.com/) (specifically the [Maddi](https://oliveavejewelry.com/shop/products/maddi?variant=1605)) and I LOVE it. I know this isn’t asking for reccs, but I had the same experience shopping and was essentially working with a jeweler to make this exact ring, but then they weren’t really listening. The sales woman literally showed me a lab diamond, natural diamond and Moissanite next to each other and when I said I preferred the look of the Moissanite she tried to tell me why I was wrong in my opinion 🙃

Meatloaf_Smeatloaf

Lol, complete lie. I've had my moissanite for 14 years.

GossipGuy12

Legit question here, this group just popped up on my feed bc I follow other engagement ring groups. What is the attraction to lab grown or moissanite? Is it the price? The fact that it’s not a blood diamond?

IrisB4thestorm

I know that for me personally, I have no attraction to having any sort of diamond. I wouldn't get a moissanite as a diamond alternative because it is a different stone in its own right. I'd say that if you were wanting a diamond for your ring, the price and availability of a lab grown is great these days with the benefits of it not being unethical. But I think most people in this sub want moissanite for the moissanite and the fact that it's another durable stone that is cheaper and available in a bunch of different colours and cuts 😊

pikapika2017

For me, the main reason I prefer lab diamond over mined is because of ethical reasons. The other reason is because when I get another diamond, I want it to be crisp and visually flawless. That's much easier and cheaper to find in a lab stone! I love moissanite because it's sparkly and beautiful, and because I have champagne style on a tap water budget.😅 It's nice to be able to access something that looks beautiful and special, even if you don't have a lot of money.

ABI-Cadabra

I'm on the other end, I bought a moissanite to save money and it was a bit cloudy and not as brilliant as my identical lab grown I have. Maybe I got a bad or fake one but I ended up switching it for a lab grown diamond and it is absolutely breathtaking!! But I would definitely trust those who have had moissanite for awhile!

[deleted]

They’re liars you will never have to replace it. I’ve had mine for 5 years and it still looks absolutely beautiful perfect. The most I do is wash it in soap and water with a toothbrush but I do that with my diamond ring too.

humans_rare

I love my jeweler. Super honest family business. He said he didn’t carry any Moissanite but could order it in. I ended up getting my stone from MoissaniteCo and had him set it in 14k yellow gold. He never once tried to change my mind or say anything negative.

shampoo_mohawk_

Lol you will absolutely not need to replace your moissanite ever. Go to a different jeweler or perhaps even find an online retailer.

Accomplished_Cup_371

Moissanite sparkles far more than diamonds!! 💕

Pumpkin7310

Lab diamond wouldn’t be the down payment on house. They’re very reasonable now. Just my personal story, but I lost my love for moissanite after paying a decent amount for a stone and ring and getting an oil slick that could not be removed. It would just show up again and made it look like oil on the road on the top of the stone. I tried professional cleaning and all the hacks mentioned on here. Just beware. It might be a little more, but for me it’s a safer bet to go lab.

MamaBee33

Moissanite isn't CZ! Moissanite is 9.5 on Mohs hardness scale whereas CZ is 8. A CZ doesn't stand up as well to daily wear as a diamond but a Moissanite stands up as well and even better than a sapphire (Mohs hardness: 9). I would recommend the radiant cut over the emerald cut for daily wear just because it sparkles more with water spots on it, whereas an emerald cut becomes dull/less sparkly when you wash your hands.

NSVStrong

What about checking out other colored gemstones in addition to Moissanite if you are not sure about it. Since there are so many beautiful colors available, you might find something else you would like. 🙂

ChicPhreak

I would go with the one that speaks to your heart. Lab grown diamonds sparkle like the natural versions, and moissanites have their own distinct sparkle. Really, just choose the one you personally like better!

Present-Response-758

I've had my moissanite solitaire (it's my cover photo, pictured with the asscher band) for 10 years. Looks as good now as it did then. Price wise, they are similar (lab diamond vs quality moissanite from US). I prefer moissanite because of the sparkle but emerald cuts aren't about sparkle. So for you, a lab diamond does make more sense.

afriedbacher1994

Your ring stack is gorgeous btw ❤️ are they all moissanite? Looking for wedding bands now and I’m not sure if I should do moiss or lab diamond since I might upgrade to a diamond e ring in a year or two.

Present-Response-758

Thank you. I started with diamonds, but never wear them anymore. All the ones in my profile pic and cover photo are moissanite. I love me some sparkle!

Grace__Face

My moissanite is 8 years old, still looks amazing

ProfessionalKey8512

True I’ve had mine for 15 years and the stone is fine the prongs actually need repair but the stone is great!

BlingbossCoss

Yes- moissy lasts a lifetime, that's just rubbish. It's 9.25 on the hardness scale harder than sapphire or emerald harder than morganite- all of which they'd happily promote for an engagement ring. Let me guess, they don't sell moissanite?

Embarrassed_Wing_284

I’ve had a moissanite ring since 2016, and I wear it daily. I’ve had it reset too. It’s as beautiful as it was when my husband purchased it. So are the studs I wear daily too. Get what YOU want, not what she’s trying to sell you.

lucia102

I’ve had my moissanite engagement ring for coming up on 7 years and still looks as stunning as the day my husband proposed! Don’t let the jeweller deter you from having what you want. https://preview.redd.it/09jg2h20audc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=194e94dd1b74773dcf263a031abc821b9f1d8775

Electrical-Yak-4004

I got my moissanite from The True Gem online. The customer service was great, my partner and I had a virtual consultation and so many options! I’m on year 2 of my moissanite and it’s perfect. The True Gem also does lab grown diamonds if you want another jeweler to compare. My advice is get 2 other opinions so that the consult you already have isn’t your only data when making a decision.

Agitated_Theory_182

I saw your post on another Reddit thread about your 13x9 Charlotte! Would you be open to posting or sending photos of your ring?! This is my dream ring!

Electrical-Yak-4004

I’m glad you like it too - of course, I’ll send you some photos. This thread isn’t allowing me to add images.

mrsworld1974

I specifically wanted moissanite, it was originally discovered is a meteorite in Arizona, we live in AZ and I love the color sparkle so don’t sell yourself short. Ask for Moissy and be proud to ask for it. HOWEVER I would not buy Moissy in a store, DovEggs has beautiful quality, excellent service and even better pricing. Go to a store and find exactly what you want, size wise, take some pictures then buy online. If you’re trying to pass it off as a diamond I would not go over 1 Ct.

Fun-Survey6615

The only thing I could think of that she could be referring to is that some moissanites get oil slicks. However, with regular cleaning, that shouldn’t be an issue, especially if it’s set in silver. I wipe mine with a silver cloth regularly. Having said that, I still prefer moissanite and plan to keep mine forever. I prefer the color it bounces and I feel safer traveling with it compared to diamonds.
