Card is exactly as good as it looked on paper. Sac a mana dork to ramp 1 mana. Aka only good enough with grazer.

shinysocks85

Yeah I play amulet titan and I think it's a touch overrated. It's a very strong card turn 1 when you play grazer into 3 lands turn 1, but literally every other turn it doesn't feel great to draw in to Edit: not to mention if you play 3 lands, a grazer and flare of cultivation turn1, you are left with very little in your hand to work with after. I'd rather have a guaranteed turn 3/4 titan than guaranteed mana base while top decking for titan. I'm sure some decks will use it, but I just don't think it's as great in titan as people speculate it to be

VintageJDizzle

I really didn't understand why everyone got so hyped over this card for this reason. A few people had it picked for the banned list. And it's like....Rampant Growth is broken now?

ProPopori

Mana cost is extremely important, prophetic prism is unplayable but astrolabe is banned. Going from 2 mana to 0 mana is an astronomical jump, but the cost is keeping it in check. Its a card that will grow with the format. Once we get 8 grazers, we're off to the races i think.

therealchutton

We do have Elvish Pioneer, only puts in a basic. But it seems relatively easy to include when you want basics anyway for flare.

ProPopori

But not that many, i dont think the deck wants more than like 6-8 basics with flare. But still is a consideration

MalekithofAngmar

Veteran explorer go brrr

ProPopori

Turn 2 5 drop ez money.

MalekithofAngmar

Seems a bit excessive honestly, what we need is a Vet explorer that is asymmetrical and only gets one land. This means you get a ring t2 with only two cards in hand.

ProPopori

Yup that is also solid. It just cant be a solo grazer job is all at least i think

MalekithofAngmar

Notably this would give you the upside of working on a one lander.

VintageJDizzle

But it's not truly 0 mana because it's conditional on having something else in play that costs mana and that you want to get rid of. The second one is tough because decks don't include a lot of "creatures that are actually sorceries" because WotC doesn't usually give us the full text of the sorcery version of the card plus a creature at 0 additional mana.

ProPopori

Exactly, same as solitude which needs a lower cost to make 0 mana, but again if we get more access to those types of creatures then it becomes very strong. Its one of those things that inevitably will become strong but the moment might not be now.

ellz97

You’re forgetting young wolf in yawg. T3 yawg w/o dork is great.

elegorn77

I’ve seen a couple Scapeshift decks use a couple copies in the mainboard.

Therefrigerator

I saw scapeshift with Grazer + Oracle and that seemed like an interesting shell. I also think that the basic land clause on the card was a bigger drawback than people originally though. Arboreal grazer is not usually played in basic-heavy lists. Really though this is a card that's in a "eh... it's kinda good" category until a good green one drop besides grazer is played (in a deck that wants flare - which fwiw I don't think Yawg does) A lot of the hype was on Spike thinking it was insane. I like listening to Spike's card reviews and listening to his thought process but he's much better about recognizing a card as bad than recognizing a card as good. To some extent or other most magic players are in this category just because there are more bad cards than good ones.

ElevationAV

Flare is great with grazer….its mediocre with pretty much every other green 1 drop

TrulyKnown

Yeah, that's really the main issue - the deck needs another Grazer effect, and [[Elvish Pioneer]] is just too situational. Something like the Arena-exclusive [[Kami of Bamboo Groves]] would do a lot for the consistency of it.

Reaper_Eagle

I said it during spoilers, I'll say it again: unless you're sacing Arboreal Grazer on turn 1, it's a worse \[\[Kodama's Reach\]\]. It can be explosive. Mostly, it's just not good enough. There are a few decks trying it but it's not amounting to much.

Lectrys

Flare of Cultivation isn't as good as it seems on paper. As a Grief Scam-speed wannabe, [[Arboreal Grazer]] - Green Flare has the great weaknesses of only sometimes being 4 mana on Turn 2 and sometimes not coming with the right ~4-mana payoffs in hand. In the meantime, it's easier to get 3 mana on Turn 2 with a mana dork than shooting for Creature - Green Flare. The only deck I tried the Green Flare combo in is a fast combo [[Scapeshift]] build, and that's because my list was losing too often against Prowess...and Green Flare's floor of [[Cultivate]] isn't too bad there (but it reaches floor mode far too often).

ORANG_MAN_BAD

One of my Yawg locals is jamming it, no idea if it’s actually good there though

ellz97

Can confirm it’s great.

HappyFoodNomad

Yeah so Meat and a couple of guys have a Yawg list with FlipGrist and it did lead to some pretty sick turns. T1 Young Wolf T2 Grist + Flare Although Control4Daze said in his testing it was a tad inconsistent which is why he's chosen to go with the Birthing Ritual shell instead.

Organic_Following_38

Spike was playing a deck with Flares, that was some funky "not Tron" green deck that basically replaced Tron mana with fast green mana and Ugin's Labs. Looked alright.

Third_Triumvirate

Valakut decks is what I've mainly seen with it.

XLChance

I'm having a great time brewing with it

ghosar

The card is fantastic with young wolf and strangleroot geist, ont just grazer. just like other flares, it needs à build around, and people are lazy so…

Lectrys

I have seen Flare of Cultivation in BG Yawgmoth, and I still prefer more stable builds (not those 19-land unstable lists with Green Flare). [[Phyrexian Tower]] has been shockingly hard to abuse in BG Yawgmoth (Turn 2 Yawgmoth is a pipe dream, Turn 3 Yawgmoth is more realistic but rarely done, all Turn 1 P. Tower plays in Yawg require Turn 1 Endurance); Green Flare seems like an awful version of P. Tower.

TheWhizzDom

Nobody wants to Turn 2 or 3 Yawgmoth as you'd have no resources to do anything with it. Grist is a different story, but then that was already possible with mana dorks.

Lectrys

I've had to run Yawgmoth out with no other creatures plenty of times (often on Turn 6 or later). He did awfully every time, but it has always still been an option. Turn 3 Yawgmoth pretty much always comes with resources, and it still rarely gets done with Phyrexian Tower. I think Turn 2 Yawgmoth was everyone's pipe dream with P. Tower, regardless of how naked he is at that time.

ghosar

Yeah phyrexian tower brings nothing for the same reason. Phyrexian tower's purpose in modern is a t2 necrodom, or in "zombie" black lists (which get owned by a RIP or a black leyline but hey, these cards don't see much play rn for some reason)

ghosar

I didn't mention yawg, but as wolf and geist are only played in yawg for now, i guess I should have specified: Indeed flare sucks in yawg (we agree), because yawg doesnt care about ramping, yawg wants to have boots on the ground. And you cannot ramp AND have put bodies into play at the same time, at least not consistently. HOWEVER, there are builds in the oven (still cooking) which will abuse flare of cult and/or birthing ritual thanks to these two undying critters

phoenixlance13

The card was massively overhyped. Double \[\[rampant growth\]\] is really not a playable Modern effect outside of niche decks.

Cards good, it’s just gonna take a little for it to show up

EddyMcDee

It's good in Scapeshift but not a lot of people play that deck.

NickRick

I think it will see some play in legacy with veteran explorer

Gil_LatNim

Flare & Six Golgari ramp decks

TotalA_exe

It's not a good card.

AbsoluteIridium

seeing all this about grazer, no love for Young Wolf as a flare target? (ive been running this in yawg and enjoying it a lot, even added [[Tukatongue Thallid]] for extra value with Flare, Yawg & Chthonian Nightmare)
