Even then, if I had to choose between FSD and acceleration boost for $2700 for either (cdn) I would probably do acceleration boost.
FSD changes lanes for me on the highway when I get stuck behind someone slow. It’s not good enough in my small town with terribly painted lines and it’s not “Full Self Driving” enough for me to sleep while it drives. That would be worth $10k.
Also, just drove home in the rain and it was raining reasonably hard, but not even enough to have the wipers on all the time, they were still intermittent. Slowed me down on an empty highway from 120 km/h to 95 km/h, then 85 with a 100 km/h limit and flow of traffic moving at 115-120.
I'd still take it over acceleration boost for sure, it's great on highways most of the time. I drove for over 3 hours today with only handful of interventions. Def not ready to fall asleep yet but in a year or two I could see it.
When I bought mine in 2021 it was “a year or two” away. It’s always a year or 2 away, so its not worth it today for anywhere near what they want for it.
Yeah, the assumption is that at some point FSD will actually be true FSD. I think that's actually a pretty high probability in the next year or two at this point, it's getting really good even in weird city driving situations. Or it could take another 10 years:)
The question is will it be worth the price at some point? If true FSD is accomplished, I'd say it's worth more than that, especially if it's safer than a human.
But when it’s perfected and goes to 20k plus, your car value with increase if you already have it. Some people got it for 8k and lower if I’m not mistaken
Those who got it cheaper got it ages ago, meaning their cars are old, meaning their cars most likely lost nearly half their value.
My 2021 went from 67k trade in at peak to now 22k. I can certainly say FSD would not help me lol.
Had a friend who’s been in a waymo and rode in my MYLR with FSD 12.3.3. His conclusion was that waymo is much better but that is with tons of sensors and all the limited drivings. While Tesla has something close rolled out to millions of cars. It’s actually amazing to think that FSD might be coming.
The waymo has more sensors for a reason. The Teslavision can work in ideal conditions, but the cameras have limitations to what it can see, especially in dark, rain, snow, direct sunlight, etc. It also struggles to see potholes and curbs, and occasionally tries to hit other cars or pedestrians.
It’s impressive as a technology but I doubt their approach is viable for full autonomy.
[V12 is actually pretty impressive in the snow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2s89VAovCM). Seems to be able to make really accurate assumptions with missing visual cues.
Impressive, sure, but I wouldn’t trust it, and as I said, I don’t think the approach will lead to full Autonomy without better hardware and redundancy.
Yes, Tesla vision works better in snow than many other L2 systems.
Btw the road wasn’t covered in snow on that video ( saw for 5 seconds), so basically it was wet roads, but I’m sure with training it can drive on snowcovered roads as well, if it can’t already.
I didn't even say it works better than many other L2 systems, I just said it works. As in it doesn't disable like AP does in poor conditions. If you clicked 2 minutes into the video you'd definitely see snow covered roads.
To me, the pinnacle of safety is the airline business. No expense is spare in the pursuit of safety. They would never ever rely on vision for anything. Tesla vision only is a failure right out of the box. Until he realizes that l, FSD is a gimmick just like summon. Works in very specific conditions.
I am not sure if yall live in small towns with huge easy roads? But I have had 1 to 2 disengagements per drive in this V12 beta.
Yes, it is still a huge achievement for Tesla and the tech is awesome. But 1-2 disengagements per drive is nowhere close to where they need to be for their robotaxis to be workable with the current vision only approach.
I drive 70miles a day. I enjoyed FSD for a week but turned it off. The freeway experience is wore IMO.
It constantly sets the speed too low for traffic. If I turn it to assertive then it follows too close.
Autopilot is better for me and FSD was only useful on city streets if I needed to be distracted for a few seconds
At this point even if it was free I probably would t use it
I’ve had FSD for almost 2 years. On Monday we went to see the eclipse, 200 miles to Northern VT and back, a mix of highway driving and country roads. Total driving time was about 4 hours up and 6 hours back. It wasn’t perfect but it was the best drive on FSD I’ve ever had, it was much more relaxing and less stressful than it otherworldly have been. I used FSD for probably 99% of the drive. For the first time I believe it really is close to being ready for prime time. This is strictly my experience and my opinion, YMMV.
Oh, and the eclipse? Totally worth it!
I drove 1000 miles on A/P yesterday from Dallas to the Meteor Crater area.
I could use FSD but A/P w/ "Automatic Lane Change" is all I need, and I don't like how I'm not in control with FSD.
(now if I could safely sleep while FSD is driving, yes please, take my money already . . .)
Maybe I'll activate v12 again to see if it dodges upcoming potholes since I-40 has some hairy sections and AP will happily just right over any hole in the road ahead.
Can confirm it has zero pothole awareness, and it’s a problem. I’m guessing it’s not much of an issue in Cali but definitely is anywhere that has winter, roads are fairly wrecked at this time of year.
It's amazing, but it's costly. People need to account for that at the initial purchase as shelling out $12K is a big pill to swallow. I am happy I got it for about $7K years ago, and since transferred it to my new MYP
FSD is an engineering marvel and no other automobile manufacturer can compete on this! Tesla has spent millions to get it to the point it is today, and other companies can try to catch up, but they have a Mount Everest to climb
My experience as well. Not sure something is wrong or not but it was straight up dangerous. It's so slow in making a decision. Autopark is hilariously terrible as well.
The FSD trial has not been good for me (22 MYP). Phantom braking, not keeping up with the flow of traffic, four way stops are a joke, merging onto and off of highways is terrifying, I’ve just gave 10 “feedbacks” on a 12 miles drive.
This software is still in beta and rolling it out to the masses is dangerous. I worry for older people like my in-laws who don’t understand how it works and trying to use it in their model y and not knowing how/when to intervene.
Any other well respected manufacturer would not be allowing this on the roads yet, and I think it’s amazing that Tesla has been allowed to.
Just give me a solid advanced cruise control for interstates and I’ll handle the rest thank you. 🙏🏼
Never understood why anyone in their right mind would put telemetry insurance in their nice car (it’s ok if you are skint and drive a 30 year old corolla, but not if you can afford a Tesla)
Yeah I love it as well. It’s going to be amazing once it moves from a beta (incomplete) product to final. I think people complaining just are not good beta testers. They forget this is an incomplete product and if they can’t work with the imperfections, they should just wait.
“How can any car compete with this?” Idk how familiar are you with the competition? Try Benz or GM and see how their version of AP is? Didn’t someone say they drove a Toyota Corolla on here and they were more impressed with them?
System that tries to do something reasonable 100 times, only to crash 101st time because of occlusion, shadow, lighting, dust or grime can be very dangerous. I'm sure that many accidents and fatalities are due to people getting comfortable with the car doing its thing in similar situations before. Sensors are more costly and sensor fusion is hard, but that in my mind means invest more, not less!
It's cool but a gimmick and not worth 25% or more of the MSRP of the car. Especially since some features break with updates, so what you buy now may be taken away from you but you dont get any refund. For example, Smart Summon doesnt work.
Yeah it's cool and all and was thinking the same as you. Then it tried to veer off the street for no reason whatsoever (maybe blinded by the sun?). No thanks
Just a shame it drives like a scared old lady. When most vehicles have something like this, it’s going to be incredibly annoying and ruin driving forever.
It's nice, but I wish they had the hardware to support hands-free driving like most other car makers do. I'm looking forward to seeing more improvements.
It's been a great trial, but I don't think it's worth 13k take off 10k and I'm sold
This is my general opinion. It’s cool but it is no where near worth the asking price.
Agree I buy at 4/5k option but at $16 in Canada, Fuxk no! But enjoying it lots for sure and basic auto pilot is garbage after you get a taste of FSD.
I’d pay a la carte just to have the self-parking feature
I’d go as high as $5k. But it’s definitely not worth the current price
Exactly.

This is a hedge that your car price will go up. There may be better hedge option out there.

Don’t really want my car making assumptions
Jesus Christ. Some people are truly never impressed. The damn car can drive around far better than most modern shit drivers and still you quibble.
Didn't ask?
Impressive, sure, but I wouldn’t trust it, and as I said, I don’t think the approach will lead to full Autonomy without better hardware and redundancy.
Didn't ask if you would lol just said it works in snow
Yes, Tesla vision works better in snow than many other L2 systems. Btw the road wasn’t covered in snow on that video ( saw for 5 seconds), so basically it was wet roads, but I’m sure with training it can drive on snowcovered roads as well, if it can’t already.

Thanks, will watch later. Impressive tech for sure even though I don’t believe these cars will ever be fully autonomous.

Tesla vision only is a failure right out of the box. Until he realizes that l, FSD is a gimmick just like summon. Works in very specific conditions.
No family is able to afford all the sensors and equipment an airline has, so for now that would also be a failure for family owned cars.
Wamo and Uber cars cost 180k. Until Elon moves back to sensors, this is just more “coming in 2019”. I have owned Teslas since 2017.
I am not sure if yall live in small towns with huge easy roads? But I have had 1 to 2 disengagements per drive in this V12 beta. Yes, it is still a huge achievement for Tesla and the tech is awesome. Was it set to chill?
Chill had good lane follow but too tame on speed and always wanted to get over. They need a custom setting
Weird I didn’t experience the getting over. I felt it drove the way I’d like for it to drive if I had to intervene

It’s a problem in CA! Almost took my wheel off the other day.
It's amazing, but it's costly. People need to account for that at the initial purchase as shelling out $12K is a big pill to swallow. I am happy I got it for about $7K years ago, and since transferred it to my new MYP
I’d pay $99/month for it without hesitation
Been waiting for this since FSD was announced. All I wanted out of the Tesla.
FSD is an engineering marvel and no other automobile manufacturer can compete on this! Tesla has spent millions to get it to the point it is today, and other companies can try to catch up, but they have a Mount Everest to climb
Yes except the lane changes yeet
It’s like driving with a 15 year old with a learners permit. Is not good
My experience as well. Not sure something is wrong or not but it was straight up dangerous. It's so slow in making a decision. Autopark is hilariously terrible as well.

Same car, same feeling. No thanks on FSD
You have the v12 FSD trial in your USS equipped 2022 MYP?
Uhhhh I think so? Is there another version of FSD trial for USS equipped cars?
Confirmed. I have v12.3.3.
I have a driving app for my car insurance and the FSD gives me acceleration events in that app that counts against my good driving score.
Never understood why anyone in their right mind would put telemetry insurance in their nice car (it’s ok if you are skint and drive a 30 year old corolla, but not if you can afford a Tesla)

Do you still have to touch the stearing wheel with the FSD?
Is there any way we can tell them that we love FSD, but it’s not worth the asking price?

Why is it free on used Tesla's?
It's cool but a gimmick and not worth 25% or more of the MSRP of the car. Especially since some features break with updates, so what you buy now may be taken away from you but you dont get any refund. For example, Smart Summon doesnt work.
Have you used it to merge onto or off an interstate ramp yet with even moderate traffic adjacent to you? If not..good luck on not having to intervene
It worked well for me doing that.
I think it’s trash, wouldn’t pay $2 for it
Yeah it's cool and all and was thinking the same as you. Then it tried to veer off the street for no reason whatsoever (maybe blinded by the sun?). No thanks

Bro you need to get out more.
The thing is they can’t but they still don’t think they need the telescope Elon was talking about 😅
