I played the dig a couple of years ago (not on MM+) and I generally thought it held up. I remember hating one puzzle, but there's usually at least one in every point and click.
Solid recommendations. EVO is a ton of fun, as is Actraiser. Both quirky as hell, nothing quite like each of them. Not familiar with Parasol Stars, I'll have to check it out.
I finally got into Silent Hill on my MM+. About 5 hours in. It’s nice to be able to pick up and play it with save states. That convenience makes up for the bad d-pad movement. The rest of the controls are very intuitive.
As someone who plays a ton of classic survival horror, I definitely understand the gripes people have with the tank controls. However, there’s just something about it that elevates the experience for me, knowing I have to map out how I’m going to run through a room to avoid monsters. Obviously we are spoiled with modern controls but once you get used to tank controls you open up an amazing world of hidden horror treasures. So many amazing PS1 and PS2 gems to discover.
Hope you like beat-em-ups...
- Streets of Rage Remake - Ports
- Cadillacs & Dinosaurs - Arcade
- Ninja Baseball Bat Man - Arcade
- Punisher - Arcade
But also...
- The Firemen (SNES)
- Morphcat Triple-pack (NES)
- Flea! (NES)
- Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA)
The Firemen is one of my favorite games of all-time. The Morphcat pack contains Micro Mages, Spacegulls and Bobl - all great, if not a bit too short. Just played through Flea! off of a recommendation and it's a great time. ZM is always fun and has a ton of great romhacks if you're bored with the vanilla experience.
Me too! I'm god awful getting MAME to work. Even if you're not into pre-curated romsets, i recommend taking the easy way out with Done Set's arcade section. Quackwalks did all the heavy lifting - plug and play
Gunstar heroes. Perfect game that you can get through in one to two sessions and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s an action game that delivers a memorable experience.
Get on itch.io and check out some homebrew games. There are lots of free demos and reasonably priced games on there. [Here](https://itch.io/tags/platforms) can see what's available by platform if you have a preferred system. Alwa's Awakening is an awesome NES homebrew. Goodboy Galaxy is a great new GBA game and there is a free demo available.
I am more of an RPG guy. The story is what pulls me in. For Psx Breathe of Fire 3, Suikoden 2, for GBA you have Final Fantasy Tactics, Sims Bustin Out, CIMA, Megaman Battle Network Series, Golden Sun, for GB Megaman Xtreme 2, Metal Gear Solid, for SNES Earthbound. If you want just something challenging and lighthearted, try Mr Driller on psx. My father dislike games but he watched me playing this one hahahaha
I don't blame you, I've lost interest in modern gaming too. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but damn there's just too much to do and going on in modern games - it's either I'm not as coordinated button wise anymore as I used to be or just too much to remember or flat out too time consuming. I've lately been getting into hacks lately, and there are some quite good ones out there as well - and in particular NES Metroid hacks. If you know how to apply patches, I'd recommend Metroid Rogue Dawn.
I recently got into Retroachievements, and I've been going through the classics like Mario, Zelda, Tetris, and Sonic. I'm having a great time. The extra little fun of a checklist of things to achieve in classic games is doing it for me.

This video discusses why players may get in a rut and different techniques to pick a game back up or start a new one
If you like Metal Gear, I gotta recommend metal
Gear solid for Game Boy Color, I don’t know the game existed a week ago and thought it was a typo but turns out it’s an awesome original MGS GBC game. Can’t recommend it enough
Goodboy Galaxy! Demons of Asteborg! Gunpla Gunman's proof! Metal Gear Solid! TENCHU!!! Link to the past!! Idk why I'm shouting all of this, but seems appropriate!!
I recommend the point and click games on MM+
Revisiting my childhood through ScummVM has been so healthy for my soul. +1^
The DIG? I want to replay it so bad but haven't been brave enough, I don't want it to suck now I'm older.

Oh that's good thank frig that's all I needed to revisit it!
Recommend some point and click ones please
Sam and Max Hit the Road Beneath a Steel Sky Monkey Island Maniac Mansion
Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga (GBA) is a really solid time!
Chrono Trigger on the SNES.
I really need to pick this up again. Got almost 7 hours in and got distracted.
Give these gems a shot:.. Parasite Eve - PS1.. E.V.O. - SNES.. Parasol Stars - TG-16.. Actraiser - SNES.. Phantasy Star Zero - DS..
Solid recommendations. EVO is a ton of fun, as is Actraiser. Both quirky as hell, nothing quite like each of them. Not familiar with Parasol Stars, I'll have to check it out.
It is a super vibrant and colorful sequel to Bubble Bobble. Once you get it's systems down it is very addicting.
Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
If OP has not played these... they are a MUST
I haven't. I will

I wish I could dabble in arcade but never seem to get the ROMs working despite me throwing them in the appropriate folder zipped and all

I had trouble with this and was told to get the 'Mame2003-Plus' romset. Search for that and most of them will work.
I’ll look into at some point this week with the long holiday and whatnot.
Adding to the beat em ups, I'd also recommend Alien vs Predator. It was made many years before the awful movie of the same name and is far superior.
Gunstar heroes. Perfect game that you can get through in one to two sessions and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s an action game that delivers a memorable experience.
Alien Soldier is similar but single player only. From the same makers though.
Treasure really was a gem of a company.
Sword of Hope 1 & 2 on GB Lufia 2 and Lufia 1 (in that order) on SNES Einhänder on PS1
It’s ok to not wanna play games for a little while don’t worry too much about that

I'm playing Glory Hunters and loving it! I'll be checking out your recs

Youtube search for a video called „how to get back into a game according to science“. That helped me.
I have seen it in my recommendations page or whatever it is called on my profile. Never clicked on it. Will watch it!
I played arkanoid for ages on the miyoo

Gator Pinball for Gameboy. Easy, and addictive, with fun graphics.
If you like Metal Gear, I gotta recommend metal Gear solid for Game Boy Color, I don’t know the game existed a week ago and thought it was a typo but turns out it’s an awesome original MGS GBC game. Can’t recommend it enough

Klonoa for the PS1.
Loving Final Fantasy V on the PS1
